FM transmitter interfering with Maps (GPS) feature

I'm using Accessory Power's Flex Pod to listen to my iPhone music through FM transmitter in the car. Recently, I've discovered that when my Flex Pod is plugged in the cigar socket, GPS feature on my iPhone doesn't work properly (even when iPhone's not connected with the transmitter). A blue circle showing my current location stops blinking and moving as I drive my car. After about 10 seconds of delay, it updates my location, which makes it useless when I'm trying to use the Maps' direction feature. It doesn't happen when Flex Pod's not plugged in the socket.
I'm wondering if anyone has the same issue using an FM transmitter.

Accessories that are not marked with "Made for iPhone" will commonly interfere with data and cell connections on the iPhone. Often times, even accessories such as the TomTom docking kit, which are specifically made for the iPhone 3G & 3GS, will also cause interference. If you plug the accessory into the dock connector and are prompted with the message "This accessory not made for iPhone", then odds are you will experience the type of response from your phone that you described. To my knowledge, the only work-around for this problem is to enable Airplane Mode. However, that will only increase the functionality of your accessory and not the iPhone itself.
Hope this helps,
DB

So far so good... do a back-wards re-install from 3.06 after Uninstall of whatever is the BUG
Uninstall what you can see in Applications manager. Start with Nokia Maps, ODML Commons Repository and then Nokia Maps Installer. If you have anything that says Ovi Maps. Destroy it too!
Want to go back to 3.06?
If you would like to go back to 3.06 version, you will first need to un-install these applications from the Application Manager then re-install 3.06.
First, un-install these from the Application Manager:
    Check In
    Check In Agent
    Check In Data
    Check In Widget
    Create a Place
    Drive
    Guides
    Headless Map and Navigation
    Map and Navigation
    Map Apps
    Maps Settings Plugin
    ODML Commons Repository
    Nokia (Ovi) Maps
    Nokia (Ovi) MapsEngine
    Nokia (Ovi) Maps Installer
    Nokia (Ovi) Maps ODML
    Weather
(Helpful Hint: Unistallation process is faster if you uninstall “Ovi Maps” and “Ovi Maps ODML” first.)
Next, re-install 3.06 from Ovi Store.
So I have uninstalled the BUGGY version.
Uninstalled 3.0.8 BUGGED from Nokia Software Updates and Components. Of course, Drive, Weather and Here & Now cannot be seen in Applications Manager.
    Installed ovi_maps_installer_3_06_11wk10_b01_tb9_2_195660.sis
Seems to be working. Maps in F:\ not destroyed so far; maybe in default E:\ but I do not care about what was in E:\ My world map is in F:\
    Installed ovi_maps_installer_3.07_11wk17_b04_tb9.2_nocs_beta.sis
Working as well, Maps & Drive... etc.
    Now, trying to do this:
    nokia_maps_installer_3.08_11wk27_b01_TB9.2_NOCS_BETA.sis
    See if it works...
    Then, I will try this...
    nokia_maps_smartinstaller_3.08_11wk34_b01_TB9.2_NOCS_BETA.sis
Which is the last BETA before this Nokia Software Update.
BTW. ODML Commons Repository is no longer needed. If you find it in your Applications Manager. Remove it after you successfully install upto the lastest Maps available from Beta Labs before this BAD UPDATE from Nokia Software Update.

  • Does the GPS feature on the new G3 iPhone an extra monthly expense?

I have just pre-ordered the new G3 iPhone. The sales person at the AT&T store told me that when the phone comes in, we can set up my account to include texting and GPS features. I thought one feature of the G3 phone was the GPS and am surprised that AT&T can charge a fee for an Apple application. I'm hoping someone can help with this question so I can have accurate information before I go back to the store to get my phone.

GPS is just hardware that receives a signal, and yeah, that's built into the phone. Usually when people pay more for "GPS", it's really a navigation program with maps that they are paying for. As far as I know, there are no programs available for the iPhone to do that yet, but I think AT&T does offer Navigation services for their other smartphones. So the AT&T rep may have just misspoke.
In all the many articles that I have read about pricing, there has been nothing about extra fees for GPS. ATT rate plans:

That I dont need to get another application and can just use Maps for a GPS and travel route for a longer roadtrip and is it an acceptable option as opposed to a stand alone GPS?
I realize no "turn by turn directions or notifications" but it can track you in realtime according to some YouTube videos...

And...GPS realtime tracking and Maps does not need a specific data plan?
though i plan on getting one for the trip, just curious if i need a plan ALL the time for this feature.

You need a specific app to do tracking with the GPS. The "Map" app that's preinstalled on the iPad relies upon Google Maps. So if you leave a 3G or EDGE signal, you get nothing!
A couple of good apps are Acuterra's Map Candy (which gives you unlimited maps) mostly for wilderness areas. Or Motionx GPS HD. Both download full maps to your iPad, so they're stored in memory. You can't download the whole US (because of size limitations), but you can download specific areas. They both use the GPS chip on your 3G iPad for tracking with or without 3G connection to the cellular network.
I've used Acuterra outside of 3G networks and it's spot on accurate down to a couple of meters on USGS maps.
In summary, if you want to track yourself over a wide range of places, some of which will lack cellular connections, then get a standalone app. If you're sticking to the road, get the Motionx app.

  • Problem with maps on e72

    Hi everyone
I've got a problem with maps on my E72.
I've seen advert that Nokia is going to let everyone use maps for free on selected models.
I was going to buy Sat Nav for whole Europe as I travel a lot and I was going to change my old N95. I thought I could do both in one new phone. Checked all the available models and chose E72. It said it;s got GPS and you don't need to use your network and spend fortune on internet connection. Got it from eBay for £270.
I installed Ovi Maps from internet and the first thing that surprised me was it had 'only' 7-8MB.
I thought that something was wrong, maps for 72 countries couldn't be 8MB big.
After some time I managed to set my e72 up. Put my Maps on and...
It takes loads of time to find GPS connection, but the worst thing is if I type lets say Paris it doesn't find anything. Map has wholes, like suddenly the roads end and there's nothing there.
My question is what am I doing wrong? Do I need to download something more? I didn't have any maps on my phone when I bought it. Where can I find them?
If someone could help I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks a lot.

I forgot to mention that when I choose a destination it keeps saying Calculating route all the time. I waited about 15 minutesand it didn't calculate anything.

  • What is wrong with the Shuffle feature???

When shuffle is on, and I have 130 songs on my phone, it should never, ever play the same song twice, until it has cycled through them all. You'd think this would be basic shuffle logic.
But well over 30% of the time, it replays songs it played within the last 10 songs. And yes, all my songs are set to 'White' on the little shuffle icon. None are set to blue (repeat).
Sometimes it will go about 10 songs, and then repeat just one. Then another later. The longer I listen, the more it will begin to replay a song it's already played in that listening session.
Ultimately, I believe I hit maybe 30 or 40 of the 130 total songs. I don't think I've ever branched out past this.
After driving in my car for about 40 mins, there is absolutely no reason I should ever hear another song, with 130 on the iPhone. But as each new song comes on, I have to go past 3 or 4 of them just to get to a "new" one that hasn't already played.
Can someone tell me whats up with this?
I do see something in iTunes that allows you to give songs a "Star" rating of some sort on your playlist. I believe this makes them "more" or "less" important and may increase their probability of of being played more often. If this is the case, how can I set them all to zero stars in one swoop?
    Thanks

I don't believe song ratings has anything to do with the Shuffle feature on the iPhone, or on a iPod. iTunes includes an option to play higher rated songs more often when using the Party Shuffle feature.
If a Reset has no effect, you shouldn't lose anything when Restoring your iPhone with iTunes.
iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone when syncing. Your iPhone's backup is updated if needed as the first step during the sync process - if any of the data stored with your iPhone's backup has changed since the last sync.
The backup stores your iPhone settings, including email accounts, SMS messages, notes created with the Notes application, cities tracked with the Weather widget, stocks tracked with the Stocks widget, Maps bookmarks, youtube bookmarks, recent calls, call favorites, visual voicemail, alarms, World Clock settings, and photos captured by your iPhone - but I wouldn't depend on this one.
Before restoring your iPhone, you should import any photos to your computer that are available on your iPhone that were captured by your iPhone, and then sync to update your iPhone's backup if needed.
When restoring, your iPhone is completely erased, and then the current firmware version is re-installed. After the current firmware version is re-installed, you are prompted to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup, which is the default selection. The other option is to restore your iPhone as a new iPhone, or not from your iPhone's backup. This must be followed by a sync to re-transfer the data that should remain on your computer, such as iTunes content, contact information, calendar events, bookmarks, and photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone.
I believe the logic and reasoning behind doing a Reset first, which doesn't affect any data or settings, is it may make a difference. It is possible to do a Restore without losing any data, which may make a difference if a Reset doesn't.

  • I need urgent help with the GPS

i've ask my family to buy Nokia n 97 from syria, while i live in cyprus, how ever i got the phone with a card inside the box says:
this nokia device has been specially designed and manufactured for this market.the satandard GPS features have been disabled in accordance with market regulations.
im using this mobile for the second day,i can't send it back to syria and i don't know what to do,i can't connect with the gps system in cyprus and i can't connect with the internet, please help me to find a way to enable the GPS system in my phone.
    THanks a lot

As I explained in an earlier post, you WILL NOT be able to do it yourself.
If the hardware is just disabled (the error message may be misleading), a Nokia service point may be able to reactivate it, though you'd have to pay because the phone only has warranty in Syria and because this wouldn't be a warranty fix anyway.
If the hardware is removed, then you are more than likely stuck.

  • I believe Microsoft-Nokia is interfering with my 8...

Guys, there have been some sudden changes in my Nokia 808 Pureview that has only left me thinking that why would Nokia interfere wirelessly, over internet to sabotage my 808 Pureview:
    1. Nokia Internet Radio has stopped updating its Radio lists. I used to get a list named like, "Service has been discontinued" in June 2014. And now, I get error, "Unable to perform operation".
That is ok, if they don't want to sent these lists to us.... I'm ok with that.
But they disabled "Favorites" too, which means our previously stored stations are not working, despite their IP address being the same, and working otherwise.
    2. Nokia Music service, I'm seeing, has totally disabled its History option. So, I can't re download damaged songs, or check out albums I downloaded. Its a paid service and Nokia shouldn't have touched it.
Plus, if we hang up a download, and don't remember which one has hung up, we can't ever go back there and cancel it. In that situation, the entire app will be useless until the download completes...
    3. They're jumbling up the "Nokia Store" searches, with wrong returns, maybe just to deceive us that Nokia Store is very very bad.
Plus, many many times there are failed downloads. You have to try 20 times to get one app.
Plus, the home store has some useless apps, like "All Media Player" which doesn't play anything at all.
I searched "Music Speed Changer" and it did not list me this application, which I personally confirm that it is present in Nokia Store.... with the same exact spelling too.
I searched "Fashion Icon", the famous free game by Gameloft... Again its present in Nokia Store with the same name, and I'm using it too, but the search has been sabotaged.
    4. Nokia Recommends has stopped working. This is just a small app though.
My concern is that Nokia promised to support Symbian devices till 2016. And we're just in 2014 mid.
I'm concerned that Microsoft-Nokia might remove our other web services like E-mail, social networking, etc. much before the expiry period... And I hope that doesn't happen. But logically, I think that's the next step by Microsoft-Nokia.
And I hate Microsoft-Nokia for this.
If you make me hate Symbian, will I start loving Lumias and WPs? I mean, come on, who at Microsoft or Nokia made this dis-reputing decision?
You killed Symbian. Why not be happy with it and let us live in peace?
Why are you interfering with out present/ existing devices like this??
    ==============================
My Story: Used 6670, Used N91, Used N8, Using Pureview 808 now. I requested Nokia to get N91's sound quality and features in the latest phones. No response from Nokia!

One of the best services Microsoft can offer.
Onedrive is working lika an charn even on Nokia N9 and almost as good on Symbian 3-devices such as the 808 Pureview anyhow.
Buy the application "files plus pro".
If you are using like me more than one handsets/platforms (a Meegoo N9, 808 Symbian 3 and occasionally wp8-handsets such as Lumia 1020) I also can recomend Evernote cause it is working on all 3 platforms.
Furthermore I really can understand your anger against Microsoft.

    Hi!
Is it possible to edit the Nokia Maps GPS waypoints on a PC?
    Tks in advance!

    @everton_cwb
    Welcome to the forum!
If you have created route upon device you can always synchronise it with Ovi, then go to maps.ovi.com and add waypoint to existing route and re-synchronise back to device if that is what you mean.

    Welcome to the forum!
This is interesting, could you check for me in E:\Cities\diskcache\safetyspots what version of 1.0.0.**.europe.cdt you have installed?
AFAIK the IRB on May 11,2011 took immediate action to ban "The warning radars , which are an incitement to violate the rules on speed limits" to fight against the increase in road deaths recorded on French roads since the beginning of the year and the relaxation in behavior that is the cause. (apologies for the translation).
I notice that if using 1.0.0.42.europe.cdt with OVI Maps v3.08Beta "Offline" I get this result:

  • Nokia C7 with no GPS after Nokia Belle refresh (11...

    Hi all,
Before install this last firmware, my C7 GPS was working perfectly. With Nokia maps 3.09, LeGPSData2 or GPSInfoQt.
The phone was updated through FOTA. Now, the GPS antenna doesn’t capture any signal, even after leaving the phone for a long time outside with a clear sky.
I tried to install again Nokia maps, installed nokia maps suite 2.0, updated to the latest Nokia PC suite and installed again the same firmware using an usb cable, but nothing could solve my problem.
Activating or deactivating the assisted GPS didn’t help.
When running the LeGPSData2 app, it keeps searching for a signal, but it never finds one. Even with A-GPS and mobile data on, small red bars appear, saying that have several (11) satellites in view, but it can’t fix even one.
There is any diagnostic tool I can run to check if this is a SW or HW problem?
    Please help me!
*note; removed mention of software not publically available.

I seem to have developed this issue also. As a Nokia owner and 'fanboy' since about 1998 I'm most disappointed.
My GPS was last working definately in October as I used it to log participation at an event with Sports Tracker.
I know I applied an update since then (I believe I was on the original Belle in Oct, but I seem to remember applying an update since then which was probably the 'refresh').
Interestingly, if I have network on, the phone in Nokia or Google Maps will get a position, but will not connect to any satellites. Attached is screenshots showing results in Nokia Maps, Google Maps, LEGPSData2 AND Garmin XT. In LEGPSData2 and Garmin it appears that it can see some satellites as there are some shown, but it is not determinig a position for some reason.
Garmin and Sports Tracker will not get GPS data. Just says trying to connect to satellite.
Google appears to cycle between the following three statuses over and over in the top right with GPS enabled:
    Initialising GPS...
    Seeking GPS Satellites (0)...
    GPS active (0)...
I've tried a reinstall with Nokia Suite and reset with *#7370#. Nothing seems to allow it to get a working connection. What more can I do? I wanted to try a downgrade, but believe this will brick the phone, and I don't want to do that and I don't want to have to replace my phone as I'm happy with my C7 and if it's going to cost me money, I may as well just go with a new phone which will likely not be another Nokia in that case.
It's most disappointing not to be able to use Sports Tracker and my Heart Rate Monitor that I invested in now that I have found the time to get back into cycling again...
    Help appreciated.

  • Compatibility with Garmin gps

FYI Some of the Garmin gps software is not compatible with Leopard. Their webpage says Mac compatible. Maybe pre Leopard, not Leopard. Had to do a firmware update on my wife's PC.

The only 3rd party apps you can install on your iPhone is what is available via the iTunes app store. There are a number of 3rd party GPS navigation apps available for the iPhone with maps used by the application stored locally on the iPhone with the application.

  • Afraid to use MAPS/GPS

Just bought the new iPhone 3G - incredible!
I'm a little weary about using the MAPS icon..I want to be able to use its services without getting charged for using the GPS (since I don't have a GPS plan). What am I allowed to do with MAPS without getting charged for GPS? Thanks!!

There is no additional charge for the GPS service. GPS location data comes from GPS satellites, and the information is free. The map data comes from Google over the data network, and this is paid for already through your data plan.
