FM10 Crashes when Convert CMYK colors to RGB selected
Hi folks,
I have searched for info on this issue and found a couple of items but I'm still having problems doing what I need to do.
First off, FM 10 version is 10.0.2.419. PC is Dell E6420 laptop, Win 7 SP1, 8GB RAM, big hard drive. No existing Adobe software before installing TCS 3.0 from local files (copied from DVD).
At first I could not create a pdf (using File > Save as PDF) at all on this system (my old XP system still works fine with TCS 3.0). Instant crash and error messages (Internal error 10024, 7687848, 7688138, 10076935.). After reading the discussions, I cleared the check box for Convert CMYK colors to RGB, which allowed me to create the pdf. However, my colors are washed out completely. So I need to be able to select this check box without the crash.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
(1) Although FrameMaker 10 is a 32-bit application, there was no issue with it running under Windows 7 64-bit. You certainly don't need to run it under any XP mode!!!!
(2) There were any number of save as PDF bugs in FrameMaker 10 that were fixed in various updates, but typically they were associated with when one didn't check that convert CMYK to RGB option (that uses the native Windows GDI for PostScript creation).
(3) Rather than printing to File and distilling, try printing directly to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance.

'Convert CMYK Colors to RGB' still runs havoc in 9! (Plus a PDF version problem)
This post is to warn people about severe issues, and how to avoid them. Issues with the CMYK color setting in FM9.x have been reported here earlier, such as:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1237696#1237696
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1237852#1237852
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1237165#1237165
However, I do not think this issue has been warned about anywhere near as much as it should have. And, as usual, Adobe is silent (they should have a big poster on their site warning about this issue! And they have even claimed that patches have "solved" the issues with CMYK).
Just recently, while experimenting with FM9 again, I had extreme problems, which, at first, seemed totally unrelated to this CMYK setting. But after having struggled extremely hard for many many many hours, I finally found out. Now is the time to inform others:
First a note about versions: FrameMaker 9.0p237, Acrobat Distiller 9.1, XP SP2
It looks perfectly okay on screen in FrameMaker, exactly as in FM8. But when saved as pdf, several things are "corrupted". Examples: no kerning after the letter 'T', such as the word 'Text'. Dotted leader for a right aligned tab disappears. Some objects from the master pages, such as a logo, become enclosed in a rectangle (a border of the frame/object), but it only happens on *some* body pages, whereas other body pages using the same master page are ok!!? Equations are formatted differently from the way they should, with the wrong font for number, etcetera.
Solutions:
1. When 'Save as PDF...', untick 'Convert CMYK Colors to RGB' in PDF Setup. Same setting is in the file's 'Format > Document > PDF Setup...'
A drawback with this method is that, as of Acrobat Distiller v9, it does not seem to respect the pdf version specified in the PDF job Options! I get PDF 1.6 with this method, despite my job option specifies version 1.5. (This happens also with FrameMaker 8 if Acrobat is v9.) So you *have* to optimize it in Acrobat in order to get a web friendly PDF (PDF 1.4 or 1.5).
or
2. Print to 'Adobe PDF'.
In this latter case, you can set the same 'PDF Setup' settings under the button 'Setup...', EXCEPT that there is no tick box for 'Convert CMYK Colors to RGB', and it does not matter what setting you have chosen in the file's 'Format > Document > PDF Setup...', it will be RGB conversion in any case. Make sure that after you exit the setting, the tick box for 'Print to File' is NOT ticked! This method respects the pdf version specified in the PDF job Options! I get PDF 1.5, which is what my job option specifies.
(For some reason, Acrobat/Reader does not render these two PDFs exactly the same, except in extreme magnification! Maybe it has to do with the different PDF versions of the files.)
In either case, the solution actually solves ALL problems I listed! Despite it seems to have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with colors! Some day in the distant future, CMYK might actually work! But, for myself, I would prefer a proper color management instead...
Best Regards,
/HaraldOops!! Not until now I discover that under 'Solutions' I happened to write 'untick' where it should be 'tick'! I.e, colors SHOULD be converted to RGB in order to circumvent the problems! I.e it runs havoc in v9 when CMYK colors are NOT converted to RGB! Don't know how I came to write the opposite, but probably I started out by describing the situation where the problems are seen rather than describing how to avoid them.
Equally strange is that nobody corrected me, but perhaps the mistake was so obvious? (But whether you see problems or not might depend on what fonts you use. So, under certain special circumstances, CMYK might actually work without these reported problems.)
I am also a bit surprised that others haven't reported the issue that the PDF version set in PDF job Options isn't respected when using 'Save As PDF' and Acrobat 9? (Or maybe someone has, but I have missed it.) -
Acrobat X 10.02 crashes when converting Word 2007 document wiht linked Visio file.
Acrobat X 10.02 crashes when converting Word 2007 document with linked Visio file and causes a C++ runtime error in Word and crashes Word.
To see the behavior create a short Word 2007 document with a linked Visio file (e.g., create a Visio file with one box and text and insert it as a link into a Word docx).
No problem in Acrobat 9There may be some of an issue with AA X on this, but part of the blame probably goes to MS also. I would suggest you simply clip the graphic from VISIO as a vector graphic (EMF will be used by default) and not do the link and do not embed the VISIO object. The linking and use of embedded objects in WORD 2007 seems to have been a major problem and is mostly a MS issue.

IPhoto 11 crashes when converting library
I just installed iPhoto 11 from the install DVD. I have used iPhoto 9 for years with no problems - but wanted to upgrade to 11 prior to converting to Lion.
Had made a Time Machine backup of all my photo libraries prior to the install.
Upon launching iPhoto 11 for the first time, it says my library must be converted and it starts, but then crashes. As a test, I had it open another (smaller) library, and it converted it and opened fine. So, it must not be the application... Here is the crash report from the library it won't convert:

Removing the .mov files didn't help at all.
I have 7 iphoto libraries created with iPhoto 9. When launching iPhoto 11, it converted 5 of those libraries with no problems.
But, it would crash when converting two of them. iPhoto Library Mgr couldn't help with those two, as they were grayed out in the library selection pane and iPhoto Lib. Mgr wouldn't recognize them until they were opened with iPhoto 11. So, now I was really stuck. In scouring the internet for other ideas, I removed the DivXcodec file from the OS. That helped a bit, in that iPhoto 11 would now open and convert them. Problem was -- my library now only showed 800 of 8,000 photos. I ran iPhoto Lib. Mgr. to rebuild. It never brought in any of my other photos. Tried holding the option key down while launching iPhoto to rebuild -- same thing. Most of my photos were missing.
At this point, I was really frustrated with iPhoto. I mentioned that I could open the library in Aperture. So I noticed when iPhoto's library was open (with the 800 photos) - I could click on the "Show Aperature Library" in the file menu. That brought up a small window with ALL the photos in Aperture Library. I then dragged in all the Events one by one into iPhoto. Took some work and lots of time, but basically rebuilt my iPhoto Library that way. It did save the metadata, etc. Reorganized my Albums, etc., and thought all was good to go.
When I checked the library size of the original iPhoto library (created in iPhoto 9) -- it was appox. 15 GB. My newly created library I just worked on for hours is only 3.2 GB. Yet, I have all my photos from the old library in it. Now, I see that all the photos imported into iPhoto from Aperture are about 1/4th the size of the originals. For instance, a photo that was originally 800 KB is now 143 KB.
So, now here I am with a library that holds much smaller resolution photos than the originals were.
I guess I'm totally fed up with iPhoto 11 at this point and have decided to move to Aperture to work with my libraries. Even though iPhoto has served my needs perfectly to this point, I'm going to learn Aperture and not deal with this again with any new iPhoto versions that come out.
Sorry for my rant, but this has been not only frustrating, but has cost me many hours of time to try to get my iPhoto libraries working in iPhoto 11. And, still, have no idea what was causing the the problem with these two libraries (which imported with no problems into Aperture). Like you said, it could be a single corrupted or damaged jpeg file -- but how would you find that "needle in the haystack"? iPhoto 11, in my opinion, is not a reliable program for photo management when it has these kind of issues. Thankfully, I had Aperture as an alternative. What would I do if I hadn't?? I can't imagine the time it would take to redo my 8,000 photo library manually. It would be impossible to import, tag, organize and and go thru all these photos again. -
Hello
The problem is: when I try to pick a CMYK color in InDesign, it immediately switches it to RGB. The method I pick the color doesn't matter, even if I pick my color from the swatches (C0, M0, Y0, K100), the object is colored with something like C79 M81 Y80 K100.
For you to realise how much "fun" I am having, I add some pictures
type in: C50, M50, Y0, K50
http://gyazo.com/02c492161a03113b1445f9e75d927d89.png
click OK, then immediately double click the color to enter the picker again, and there it is! ...or is it?
http://gyazo.com/961896f820f391add37b8bb2f0d36be4.png
select the swatch C0 M0 Y0 K100

double click the color to enter the picker, and there it is! ...or is it?

I use ID CS2 (running on Windows 8), recently I changed my computer, so, since the CS2 activation server is offline, I was forced to use the installer downloaded from Adobe's website. That's when it started, so either it's a problem with this particular distribution, or I had a setting on my old ID installation I'm not aware of. Either way, the usual "if ID acts strange, trash the preferences" method doesn't apply here.
This is wrong on so many levels I guess I'm missing something obvious. Help!> Are you really running CS2 in Windows 8?
Haha, as long as it does it's job, why not? It costs more than I make in a month, so sorry, no yearly updates
>on rare occasions I run CS2 in the Windows Virtual Machine in Win7 and it seems to work correctly, but it will not run at all in Win7 directly
We've got two CS2 running on Win7 without a problem.
But yeah, I'm ordering CS6 right now -
Word 2003 crashes when converting to a PDF in Acrobat 9.3.1
OS : Windows XP Pro SP3
Acrobat Version: Acrobat Pro 9.3.1.
M.S. Product : Word 2003
Not every file will crash Word 2003 when converting to a PDF using Acrobat Pro 9.3.1 but this particular file and some others will produce the following error:
%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[Page: 1]%%
%%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: ) '$ $ $ &$ ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
The co-worker was receiving the same error in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 before we updated her to AAP 9.1.3.
I have read some other threads similar to mine but none of them answer the question well enough to try anything listed there. My co-worker can email me the Word file and I can print the file to my Adobe PDF printer just fine. I have Acrobat Pro 7.0.
Can anyone give me help on the cause and or solution to this problem????Hi,
- syntaxerror indicates the file contains unintelligible PostScript code.
Any discussion of postscript errors, seem to consistently point to:

A troubleshooting guide is down in the bottom third of the page.
Be well... -
Acrobat 10.1.3 Word Crash when converting 2007 document to PDF.
Word 2007 Crashes with the error seen below, when using the Convert to PDF button on the Acrobat ribbon in Word. The document may have footnotes. I can convert other docuemnts to pdf in this fashion. Is there an issue converting Word Docuements to PDF if they have foot notes? I saw a post where someone had a table in a docuemnt that was causing Word to crash when it was converted to PDF in this fashion.

I convert several Word documents having footnotes to PDF using Acrobat X and it works fine. Is it possible for you to share your Word file in which you are seeing this issue so that I can investigate? You can send me the file @ [email protected]

Why is FM10 crashing when I change conditional text settings?
When I go from "show certain conditions" to "show all" in some, but not all, files in a book, FM 10 crashes.
I've tried saving as MIF, then reopening, but it still happens eventually.
Sometimes it happens with the first file I open, sometimes not until after several files have been opened and
had their conditions changed, so it doesn't seem like a memory leak.I posted previously under "[FrameMaker General Discussion] Internal Error 10024, 9332515, 9332572, 7278063". Log file has been sent several times to [email protected]. Last week, I sent many zips in separate e-mails of the entire project to Adobe Engineering Team for analysis (the project is too big to upload to Acrobat.com). No response yet. I suggested they need to test using a similar conditions as what I describe below.
BTW, I tried the above mentioned MIF wash (every single file of many book files), cut & paste to blank file, rebuild book from scratch, uninstall/reinstall FM10 ... all to no avail. I did trial and error (a shot in the dark) too: reset dictionary library, and choose other default printers (either Adobe PDF virtual printer or another physical printer on the network). Nada. No dice. It still crashes. I am not using Track Changes, so that is not likely a possible culprit.
I am running the latest FM10 patch on a Win7 64-bit HP Mobile Workstation. I have seen misc. posts online about FM crashing with laptops (Lenovo was mentioned), as well as unsubstantiated rumblings about laptop internal services or Adobe Flash or Adobe Acrobat X interferring with FM. Yes, I have many, many conditions present in book files; yes, yes, I have checked all source and target x-refs are in agreement for conditions. The only thing that works is to turn off All Cross-References in the Update Book dialog box. The book will update with that option cleared but crashes with it checked. It is definitely tied to cross-references and conditional content.
It is as if FM runs out of processing bandwidth or memory, both of which are impossible given the laptop has megatons of RAM and hard disk. IT guy here speculated maybe Symantec Endpoint (security pak) is getting in the way, but that has not been substantiated; the process of removing/reinstalling this corporately mandatory security software is onerous and we are avoiding expermenting with it for now. It is disappointing Adobe cannot exterminate whatever gremlins plague FM. As a result, I cannot trust that FM11 is worth the expense (i.e. How can I convince the powers-that-be to approve the purchase when FM10 crashes like a plane without wings?).
I will post any response I get from Adobe to this Discussion and the other one previously mentioned. -
Converting CMYK doc to RGB, one page behaving odd
I've got a problem spent the last two days trying to problem solve....
I have a print doc (CMYK) using black and a spot colour.
I then need a web version of the same material, in a different layout, so I've copied the pages to a web doc (RGB).
This copying brings the spot into the RGB doc.
So after copying I delete spot from swatch and assign a standard RGB value.
This changes all the spot colours to the RGB value as expected.
Everything looks right in InDesign, after exporting the PDF the first 10 pages show the colour correctly, then the last page only is way off the correct colour. It looks correct in InDesign and everything is RGB.
Anyone know what's going on?
Why is just one page being weird?
I've tried:
- added new material to the problem page and assigned the RGB colour, appear correct InDesign, PDF way off
- duplicating an okay page, copying in the new material.
any advice would be really apprecited!
CS5.5, macDo you know what the ink manager is and how it works? You can output a spot color as anything you like without cahnging the actual definition.
In the example below the frame is filled with Pantone 386c, a bright yellow. I created a new Spot color in RGB mode that is a salmony color, then in Ink manager I first aliased the Panton to the new swatch, then clicked the icon next to the new swatch to output that color as process (and the process equivalent is RGB in this case). If there are no Spots that actually need to be printed, you can also just click the All Spots to Process box instread of doing them individually.
In normal view you don't see the reult of the aliasing, but turn on overprint preview and here's the same frame:
As you can see in the screen shot the frame is still selected and filled with the Pantone yellow, and all that is necessary to output to press is to remove the alias.
Yes, this seems like mare work than redefining the color, but if you ever go for a reprint and forget that you made a definition change you'll be in for an expensive shock. -
I get red pixels in the dark areas when converting duotone images to RGB
Hi, I have been using Duotone with my photos, but since the other day, everytime that I process a photo this way, when I convert then back to RGB mode, the dark (black) areas of the photo become a kind of bitmap of red pixels. I have tried with many different photos from RAW or JPEG files and I get the same result with all of them. This is an example of the issue. The original is on the left.
What may cause this? The photo looks good in duo tone. It is when converting to RGB when the corruption happens.
ThanksNot following you: why are you converting from Duotone back to RGB?

Flash 5.5 on Lion crashing when choosing a color from color palette?
When coloring an animation, Flash crashes on me every 3 minutes or so, when picking a color with color picker (first displaying wrong color). Or when choosing a color from color palette or color popup in a tool. It sometimes works, but often crashes when doing one of these things.

ITunes crashes when converting to mp3
Hi,
I'm having an issue when using the "convert selection to mp3" in iTunes.
I have a large portion of my library stored at high bit-rate mp3 (some variable bitrate). I would like to convert these to 128bit mp3.
When converting some tracks, it crashes saying "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"... etc.
I have tried to figure out what is different about the files it crashes on and won't complete the conversion, but they appear to be random - they are not especially large files, they are encoded the same way as others (the ones I can identify we encoded with Exact Audio Copy (secure mode) - but I have others encoded this way that don't crash under conversion in iTunes).
Anyway, its frustrating because some songs can't be re-encoded at a lower bitrate, and I can't select multiple songs as it ends up crashing regularly!
Any ideas?
AndrewHi there, i have exactly the same problem as you do - i think it is a software glitch and hopefully apple will sort it out sooner rather than later.

Photoshop cs5 crash when using the color picker since Yosemite update
Hello,
I have photoshop crashing when I use the color picker outside the canvas, like on the black background. I got this problem since I upgraded my mac with Yosemite. I got this issue on my Imac and my Macbook pro. My version of Photoshop cs3 don't have this problem.
Is there any upgrade soon for photoshop cs5 to solve this issue? It looked online and I am not the only one with this problem.
After paying 800$ for cs3 and 250$ for cs5 upgrade, I don't want to pay again for the cloud version.
Thanks,

I have recently bought a collection of Nik Color Efex Pro presets from Flypaper and had it installed within the plug-in. Since then, if I call the plug-in, Aperture will crash when I close it. I have tried to revert to a previous plug-in, dug up from my Time Machine as well as a previous Aperture from the same source. Useless.
I also ran the newly populated plug-in from LS and it operated perfectly. So the plug-in doesn't seem to be corrupted.
Do you have any suggestion?
