FM12.0.2 crashes on exit

Hi All,
Has anyone else had problems with FM 12.0.2 crashing every time you exit the program, regardless of whether any files are open? I just installed it on a new Dell Precision M4800 w/ Win7Pro and spent literally all day yesterday on the phone with Adobe Tech Support just to get the 12.0.2 patch installed. I have crushing deadlines this month and cannot lose another day to tech support's lengthy and cumbersome troubleshooting scripts....  Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rene

When on with Tech Support, we downloaded the latest installer that includes the 12.0.1 and 12.0.2 patches with the installer, and it ran like a champ, except for the ungraceful exits. In a fit of desperation, I started thinking maybe it was an underlying issue with something larger or more pervasive than Adobe, so I made sure the Win7 OS had the latest updates. This sped up the machine but didn't solve the ungraceful exits. Then, just for "good measure" I ran MalwareBytes (anti-malware software, free version) and found a bunch of malware, which I then quarantined and restarted the PC. After that, FM  no longer has ungraceful exits, the whole OS functions faster, and overall performance is improved. I find it interesting that the most noticeable symptom was manifested in FM as ungraceful exits, but ultimately the root cause was malware. Thought I should provide that tidbit here for future benefit.

Problem with AdobeOwl.dll according to debug report. Also Variations not working. I can send jpg of crash report if you like.

My CS3 Extended has just started to exhibit this crash on exit error: "This application has encountered an error and needs to close". It ran perfectly until about 1 week ago and I am wondering if it has anything to do with the latest Windows XP update to the Microsoft.NET Framework 3 as this is the only update I ran after returning from a weeks holiday.

This ONLY happens when working with files on a network share (eiter UNC or mapped drive letter).  Copying the same files locally (c:\temp for example) works just fine.  Not knowing much about CS5, I obtained the files the tester was working with.  There are two fonts missing from the story / project that get replaced with the default font, and it was created with CS3.  Wouldn't suspect corrupt files if working with them locally doesn't have the problem...
For installation, first is the base code from the CS5 disk followed by updates including Bridge 4.0.3, InCopy 7.0.3, Player for Embedding 3.1, Extended Script Toolkit 3.5.1, CS Live Services Update for CS5, and Photoshop Camera Raw 6.2.  All Adobe products are up to date according to the Adobe Applicaiton Manager.  Yes, the workstations have been rebooted.
I don't see anything related in the support forums or through a google search.  Looking for assistance troubleshooting / resolving.  Thanks in advance.

That is a sign that your preference files are becoming corrupt. Something is wrong with your system if this is happening regularly.

  • RCP application on Windows JVM 1.6.0_12 crashed with exit code = 1073807364

A user was using my RCP-based application over several days. At one point, when he apparently wasn't actively using it, the JVM crashed with exit code 1073807364. After some research, I haven't been able to determine what this exit code refers to.
On additional, possibly helpful bit of information is that the hex equivalent 0x40010004 is used to indicate Windows task status. However, this app is not running Windows tasks that I know of, although perhaps RCP, SWT or the SQL Server JDBC layer is doing so without my knowledge.
Can anyone tell me what this exit code indicates, or how to find out?

  • Taskkill /F broken in windows 8 when applied to a process that crashes on exiting

It appears that Windows 8 has broken the taskkill command in part at least (actually, I think it is more likely a broken ability to set the debug attribute, which in prior Windows versions allowed taskkill to kill programs even if in a different security
context; but I don't know exactly how to test that or prove my hypothesis).  When attempting to kill a process that is hung on exit (e.g., attempted a normal exit from the program, but it hangs and fails to exit, and continues to consume system resources),
there appears to be no way to terminate the application/service, and an "access denied" error is generated even though run from the administrator command prompt.
I have had this happen now many times with chrome.exe (which seems to have lots of issues with Windows 8 in general, but especially when exiting), as well as Skype.exe (a perpetual problem child program under any system).  It is repeatable if you can
get any program to crash/hang on exit:
    (1) start a bunch of chrome.exe windows, especially ones that require resources like scripts, and then attempt to exit chrome window by window - this will cause chrome to crash on exit 5/10 times.  Confirm hung process via ctr-shift-esc and see
that at least one chrome task is still running (chrome window may or may not still be visible)
    (2) From the administrator command line: "taskkill /IM chrome /F" which will give the access denied error.
    (3) psutils is also unsuccessful: pskill chrome /F also gives same error (run from administrator command prompt)
As I understand prior Windows releases, there is a debug attribute that was set by these particular utilities (under Windows 7 and earlier) which allowed taskkill and pskill to kill processes even when the task manager failed to do so.  It seems
that something is broken under Windows 8 now in that regard.
Any ideas how to fix?  is there a registry fix?  Another utility that works under Windows 8?

    Hi,
I tried the command in Windows 8, it works with no problem. I can even kill explorer.

The problem is with killing certain "runaway" processes.  I can kill chrome just fine ... until it crashes!  Once it crashes, it is unkillable.  Something is not right.

  • Weird colours with QuickTime sources, broken preview renders & crash at exit (CS4)

    Hi erveryone,
I have a strange problem in Premiere Pro CS4: Allmost all QuickTime MOV that I put in the timeline show weird, broken colours. At first I thought this was a problem with a specific codec, but I have now tried several codecs and pretty much every one shows up equally broken. The only codec that seems to work fine is the one that my Canon EOS 550D produces (1080p, H.264 I believe), but that one does not play smoothly (not that I would expect it to do on my machine). Strangely, H.264 in lower resolutions fails again. Other containers seem to be unaffected. Here is a screenshot of the effect:
Also, my preview renders (when rendering the effecs on the timeline) are similarly broken. They behave a bit erratically. Sometimes they are just black, showing nothing and sometimes they show a still frame of one of the previously viewed videos. Colours are messed up in a similar way, so I suspect a connection. Here is the same clip from the screenshow above, preview-rendered:
Also, upon exiting Premiere, it usually crashes. This is less of a problem, but still very weird behaviour.
Any ideas how I could solve this?
Infos about my system which might be of relevance:
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (education version)
Windows Vista 32bit (SP2, all current updates installed)
    4GB RAM
    Intel Core2 Duo
ATI X1300 Pro  256MB (with newest available driver)
    QuickTime 7.6.6
The system has been freshly installed (from factory image - hence the older OS) so no malware or anything similar should mess anything up. Only software installed except the Creative Suite is Google Chrome.
On my laptop (Win7 64bit, Intel i5, no separate graphics card, same QT version) none of these problems appear.
    Greetings,
       Florian

I think I found the solution. Some further digging revealed that I did not have as previously assumed the latest driver for my graphics card installed. I was mislead because the manufacturer (Dell) did provide some updates, but not all of them (none in the past two years to be exact). I grabbed the newest driver kit from the ATI website and installed it. Strangely, the installer produced several errors and I get another error message at startup, but I think only the control software was affected and not the driver itself.
After some first tests, QuickTime movies behave as expected, the preview renders are working again and the crashes on exit are also gone. Yay!
Strange how much trouble a driver which is otherwise working perfectly can cause.

  • Firefox crashes when exiting on i7-920, OSX-10.7.2 Lion Fully updated

This happened before.. i used app zapper to remove FF8, then reinstalled FF 7.01.. no issues with 7.01. Verified Addons with Addon checker (everything up to date)
Used update channel to install FF8 ... Still Crashing when exiting Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Games.
Hardware info... i7-920, 6GB Ram, 1TB HD, Nvidia Graphics. OSX-10.7.2 Lion Fully updated
BTW Appzapper removed everything including profile... ITS NOT PROFILE RELATED.
Still Happens in Safe Mode... Going Back to 7.01 after AppZapping 8.0 .
Must be Related to some change in LION because FF8 works fine on Snow 10.6.8. Perhaps Permissions need to be modified in the Script for FF8, Perhaps Plugin related. Not Sure, but 7.01 Works without Crashing.

On Mac systems with Java version "1.6.0_29" (Java SE 6 Update 29), Firefox 8 will crash after running a Java applet when closing the tab or hitting the back button. This is a new crash that only occurs in Firefox 8 (or above) and is being investigated ([https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=700835 bug 700835]).

Here is the error in total: "The instruction at "0x7c84495d" referenced memory at "0xf94d9326". The memory could not be "read. I have tested this on several of our workstations, all with the same error.
I have started FF in Safe Mode and the error comes up. I've uninstalled it, renamed the install directory and still the error persists. I've updated the plugins to no avail. In Windows 7, this issue does not occur. Since it crashed upon exit, the Crash Recorder doesn't come up.

I've already started Firefox in Safemode and the same issue persists. I've also gone in and manually disabled all add-ons and againk the same issue.

A crash on exit may mean that some kind of indirect memory corruption has occurred during the operation of Photoshop.
I recall a time when Photoshop CS5 used to crash on me like that.  Then it just stopped, and I attributed the improvement to having installed an updated display driver (I use ATI, so Chris' comment is pertinent).

  • Flash CS5 crashes on exit

I have Adobe CS5 Master Collection trial installed on Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3, 32bit operating system.
Every time I try to exit Flash CS5, no matter how (File/Exit, ALT+F4...) it crashes and won't close the window.

(QT 7.4.1 / Windows XP) idem after uninstall & reinstall and i don't remember to have installed something special in the last days. Thanks in advance for help.

Anyone solved this yet?! I suddenly started getting the same error on Windows XP Pro, Quicktime 7.4.5. Can't think of anything I've recently installed/updated that could have triggered it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime standalone and still the same problem.
Had a play around with user permissions because I saw it mentioned in a previous thread, but no luck.

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes at exit

On Windows 7: It always crashes at exit, but only on my login. Also on startup the window location is at the bottom of the desktop and icon palettes are collapsed. I assume there is a corrupted setting file somewhere: Deleting user prefs didn't work. In fact I tried deleting all photoshop CS3 folders in user/appdata/roaming, even tried copying them from one of the other users.
What else can I do, apart from re-installing?

    Yes, still crashes.
Also tried Run as administrator. Note, it does not crash on other users who are not admin, so points to user pref file somewhere.
Also tried Ctrl-Alt-Shift at CS3 startup: Doesn't seem to do anything on Win7?
