FM12-XML online help files

How do I find original source files for an XML-generated online help system created in FM12? What are POM files?
I must take over from previous tech writer to fix the files and regenerate them and I haven't a clue how to do it in FM 12.
I've created online help in the past, using RoboHELP without any coding.
HELP PLEASE. I am under the gun and struggling.
Thanks.

A quick search on the 'Net suggests that .pom may be
File used by Maven, a Java program used to build Java applications and manage their dependencies; contains build information, such as required software dependencies, dependency scope, and packaging information. […] NOTE: POM files are more commonly seen with an .XML file extension. They most commonly use the filename pom.xml.
Another post says
Maven POM files are not eBooks. They are configuration files for the Maven software dependency management system for building Java software. […] If the files you have downloaded are indeed Maven POM files, then they are a type of XML text file. You should be able to open them in a web browser or a text editor like Wordpad.
As for how to start from FM and get to .pom files, I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea. I'll watch this thread with interest … and sympathy :-}

  • Need suggestions for proofreading online help files

I have created online help docs off an on for many years...
and have contemplated this issue several times and never come up
    with a really good answer.
Right now, the product manager is tryiing to proof one of the
online help files that i've COMPLETELY revamped and he's
complaining about the time this is taking and how difficult it is
because not all topics are in the TOC...
so I suppose i could regnerate the TOC and include EVERY
SINGLE topic... but I was wondering if anyone else had any other
suggestions for best practices when it comes to reviewing online
    help files.
THANKS for any input you might have.

Umm!. I have to admit that I find your approach of adding ALL
topics to the TOC works as well as any. However it does cause
problems where one or more popup topics appear in the same topic.
This causes a bit of uncertainty unless there is a clear indication
in the topic where a popup exists and an understanding of what TOC
topic to look at. What I tend to do is have a piece of text (e.g.
see popup titled xxxxx) which has a conditional build tag on it.
Then you include the build tag when you compile. I also tend to
have all the popups in a separate book in the TOC. You can then
easily remove all the popups from the finalised output. It means a
bit of tossing and turning between TOC chapters but seems to work
reasonably well. You could also produce two printed copies, one
containing the popups and another containing the main topic
content. Hope this helps solve your conumdrum.

  • AW 6.0.3  to AW 6.2.7 macros, custom buttons, dictionary, & online help files

    Hello,
I have just "upgraded" from an iMac G3 "bondi" purchased ini December 2000 to an iMac PowerPC G4 "sunflower" that was used ca. 2002-2007. I have AppleWorks 6.0.2 on the G3 and AppleWorks 6.2.7 on the G4.
I have migrated all of my documents over ... and so far everything is great. A couple of questions.
Can I bring over two custom buttons: one to make bullets the other to number paragraphs that I created on the G3 iMac? If not, how do I recreate them? (I found an article that says you can't bring buttons from older versions of AW into AW6, but this is moving within iterations of AW6.
I had set up function keys to change the font color of the selected text: F1-black, F2-blue, F3-red. I also inadvertantly set up the same actions for command-1, command-2, and command-3. Is there any way to bring this over? Can I recreate on the G4?
Both were pretty straight-forward to set up, with macros, but I don't see any macro editor in AW 6.2.7.
I haven't tried to move over my dictionary. Is that relaltively straightforward?
Some of the "help" files are online. How can I access them?
Can I run 6.0.3 and 6.2.7 on the G4? If yes, what's to know?
I imaging I'm not the first person to pose these questions... .so I would appreciate any pointers to exisiting information.
    -Dottie

    Thank you, Roger.
I successfully installed AW 6.0.3 in Applications (OS 9) on my G4 iMac (with other OS 9 applications). (Sorry for the confusion: my G3 iMac was running 6.0.3 not 6.0.2.)
I was able to activate my macros.
Wasn't able to figure out how to get my user buttons that went with two of my five macros, so I just made new buttons (for bullets and numbering as on the toolbar of the window I'm composing this in!).
Had some trouble with the dictionary because not knowing what file extension to add to my User Dictionary. I successfully imported a text file I had exported from my G3 iMac and still ran into file recognition issues until I added .TXT and then the import worked perfectly. I tested it out on my big report. Success.
Enough for one day. I did download AW 6.2.9 so as to upgrade the OS X version of AW (6.2.7) at a later time. I don't plan to use 6.2.7 anyway. It's been three weeks making this transition. Finally back to work.
One question remains:  the "Help" for both 6.0.3 and 6.2.7 has some links to files accessible online. Does Apple still make those available?

  • Cannot read the help files in Cubase 6

When I try to access the online help files, manuals, documentation from within Cubase 6 I get a "Could not find manual" message. Not finding anythng relevant on the Steinberg (Cubase) forum I would like to ascertain whether it is a Cubase issue or are there any settings I could make to Adobe Reader X v10.0.1 or Windows 7 64bit that would solve this. cheers.

The entries in your map file should take the form
    <mapID target="target_string" url="html/filename.htm" />
so that the url includes the relative path from the directory where the xml files are.

  • Flash CS4 Help File Offline What Happened to Tag Defintions Showing UP?????

Ok I know I can set the help system to browse offline however
this doesn't work correctly for any less then ActionScript 3. When
you highlighted a word in the past such as "null" it use to pull up
the word and the info in all the books. Now all I see is a web
browser that doesn't do this for me. I mean who sits there at
adobe's end and thinks up of ways to slow someone down like this??
How can you remove the core help quick linking from the program.
Number 1 not everyone is on AS3 and some of us still have to update
    AS2 code.
Bigspace ships has an air application that installed AS3 flex
reference but again useless unless you are on AS3. Has anyone found
another way to get this old school functionality to work on
    CS4???

Jay Armstrong here. I’m one of the writers who works on
    the Flash docs.
Regarding this comment and the many others in other threads
that have added important details about the issues with the help
workflow, and in particular the ActionScript help workflow: We hear
your pain and we are working to implement solutions to these
    issues.
I understand that this new help workflow is more painful than
in CS3 when you had the Help right in its own panel in the product.
    Here’s some background:
The implementation of Help within the Flash Help panel prior
to CS4 required that *all* the Help files be installed on the local
drive with the product, resulting in some issues that we tried to
address in CS4. Including Help on the installation disc caused
    issues including:
    - Required that Help be completed much earlier for
    localization and end-game testing.
    - Resulted in static Help files that had been completed early
in the development cycle, sometimes not accounting for last minute
    UI or other changes.
    - A long install process.
    - Crowded the installation disc.
These aren't meant to be full explanations of why we made the
changes, but just some background as to some of the things we were
thinking about. Clearly the decisions we came to weren't the right
ones for many users. We are intent on making things better.
Moving Help online makes it possible to update Help on an
ongoing basis, allows users to comment on and embellish the Help,
and allows us to add links from the help out to new articles,
tutorials, videos, and code samples on adobe.com and throughout the
Flash web community. One of you rightly pointed out that the Adobe
Updater could have been used for some of this, but I believe that
the updater would have required much more rigorous certification by
us of any update packages and the update/install process for each.
We actually are updating the online help files very frequently, so
this process would have been a major barrier to these updates.
We’ve had a struggle about how to deliver the Flash
Help for a long time, as we have a lot of users who have been quite
vocal about not liking the Help panel consuming space within the
Flash window as well as users who really want it there so they
don’t have to leave the IDE.
Having said all that, I still totally understand what
you’re saying about losing your code, glance, code, glance,
code workflow. As you probably know, we’ve been getting a lot
of feedback about this, along with other issues that online Help
has caused. We are actively looking at ways of solving these, but
the Help-in-a-browser issue a difficult problem, as this aspect of
the Help implementation is baked fairly deep into the CS4 product.
Since CS4 shipped, we have implemented solutions to some of the
issues with Help raised by users, such as allowing you to select
the default destination of F1 (though Flash CS4 always went to the
actual Help system rather than the Flash Help and Support page,
which is what these users wanted in other products). I just
don’t know if there will be a solution in the CS4 time frame
for viewing Help within Flash itself. As noted in this thread,
there are a few independent developers working on non-browser help
viewers, such as Jamie Kosoy, Technical Director at Big Spaceship,
whose AIR application for the CS4 Language Reference docs is
    available at
    http://labs.bigspaceship.com/2008/12/09/air-app-as3-language-reference/.
We knew that people use the AS3 Language Reference a lot, so
we did install a local, abridged version of that with the product.
You only see it when not connected to the internet or if you
disable online connections as described earlier in this thread, and
it still opens in a web browser and still has the same navigation
interface as the online version. You can also download a local copy
of the AS Reference, which does get updated periodically and can be
viewed locally regardless of the state of your internet connection,
but it also is all html and opens in a web browser. As previously
noted, the download is available here:
    http://help.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flash/10/ActionScript3LangRef.zip.
I know this thread started off with AS2 concerns, and we hear
    those too.
In some of the other threads out there about the Help, people
have raised issues about the contents navigation in the CS4 version
of the ASLR as well. We are listening to all these issues and
actively working on solutions that will address these questions.
We’d really like to give you better control over whether you
see online or local content, whether you see it inside the IDE or
    in a separate application, etc.
I know that you are all really frustrated at some of these
help changes, and so I want to say how much we appreciate your
feedback. I’m sorry that my reply doesn’t give you the
magic bullet that you are understandably hoping for.

  • Help with "Help File"

    Hi all,
I have an almost-complete application to which I'm adding a help file. I am using the a VI called "Online Help file" or some thing to that effect (I would check but this internet station isn't my work station so I don't have access here...). I have created an HTML based help file using "Windows HTML workshop." This file opens correctly on any XP or 2000 system I open it with. However, I created a VI to open the help file when the "Help" tag on the menu bar is activated and this seems to work on my LabView developement system, but not on other systems (after having installed the application). No errors are posted, the help file simply doesn't open. I'm beggining to think that I may be missing some additional installers that I didn't realize were necessary for this application. I currently install LV8.2RTE and the VISA Run-time 4.0. These are the only installers I have been including. Do I need other installers for the help file to work correctly (keeping in mind that this VI works flawlessly in the application on the developement system, but not on other PCs)? If not could someone shed some light on my problem? Thanks a bunch!
    Ryan
PS: If needed I can try to post some pics.

    Hello,
Ok ok... only 4 stars for that effort... let's see if we can do better
First, I see the same behavior upon closing the application I originally attached - the chm also closes
Apparently what's happening is that when we use the online help control VI, the chm file is opening in the calling application's context, in this case the LabVIEW app/runtime engine instance.
We can get around this by making a call which will open the chm file explicity in Windows - we can do this from LabVIEW with the command exec VI.
I have attached the code this time as well - everything is zipped up (lvproj, vi, & exe).  You'll notice I have used a diagram disable structure so you can see both implementations - the previous one is disabled of course.
I hope THIS is what you were looking for
    Best Regards,
    JLS
PS - if you want your LabVIEW application to close by itself after it completes execution, you can use the Exit LabVIEW function at the end of the VI and rebuild the exe.

  • Offline Help Files for Lightroom 3.5?

I understand that these offline help files do exist, but I'm unable to find them.
Online help files are totally useless with the Broadband speed available in the sticks where I live!
Will some kind soul please help?

There's a link in the upper right corner of the LR help screen that lets you see a PDF of the help file.
Once you have that showing in your browser, there's a "save" button. The PDF is about 10 megabytes, but you only have to download it once.

  • Help files won't open

I just installed PSE 7 on Windows XP Pro and the help files will not open and I can't connect to online resources through the program.  Can anyone help me?

    Hi Rick,
    Open this URL: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PhotoshopElements/7.0_Win/
Clicking the help link from PSE7 will ultimatly take you to this link. Just save this help document by clicking the PDF save option on the top left of the browser. You can access everything in the PDF even offline. There is no difference between the PDF file and the online help files.
    Regards.

  • Customizing Online Help and versioning

    Hello all!
The Online Help my team creates supports a software application that is almost 100% customizable by our clients. Therefore, different clients may need documentation/help for their customized modules, which would not be delivered with base Online Help.
That being said, I'm wondering how versioning would work. If a customer wants to add on to our base Online Help and we delivered to our customers our base files, how could we control versioning? For example, if we delivered Online Help files for the 7.4.0 release of our software and customers purchase their own RoboHelp license to add their own content, what would happen to their new content when we deliver the Online Help files for the next release of our software? Everything would be overwritten, correct?
The only way I can think to do this is to recommend to our customers who want to add on to our base Online Help that they store their customized files outside of the base Online Help folder structure and manually reimport the files when we deliver new help files. Which seems like a lot of work.
Any idea would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

  • Downloadable help files

Anyone know where version-specific Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign help files are gone to? I keep being taken to a browser window with CS6 info only (as far as I can see).

    David,
That's NOT the way it's working if you've installed CS6. I just tried it on two of my Macintoshes.
I launched InDesign CS5.5, still installed on these computers. I chose Help > InDesign Help.
It launched the virtually useless AIR application, then when I switch to my browser it displays the same "InDesign Help / Help and tutorials" that CS6 displays. It does NOT show the CS5.5 Help.
You have to go through the steps I described before to find the old Help PDF files.
But beyond that, here are my main complaints:
    (1) I checked through a couple sample sections of the InDesign Help file (which I know best).  It's much harder to find information in the new system. The nice bookmark system in the old file has been "simplified" so you can't find topics:
CS5/5.5 PDF Help had hierarchies of topics, making it easier to find what you want:
In CS6, only top-level categories are shown:
    (2) For no reason, Help topics which were logically arranged before were edited to make it more difficult to find the most important information. For example, regarding the Printing topic, what most users want is what the settings in the Print dialog do:
In CS5, this was placed first:
In CS6, the topics are jumbled around as shown below. The first thing is Trapping and Creating PostScript and EPS files (technical topics almost never needed any more). Other trapping topics are put at the bottom of the list. "Printing document" (what most people want is 2/3 of the way down.
    (3) Total misinformation is provided. If you go to Exporting and publishing > Export content to EPUB, the material is totally wrong. It's a description of EPUB export in CS5.5 NOT CS6. The options were totally moved around and new options were added which are not shown.
    (4) Information is dropped from the PDF. An example would be "document templates". This is an essential piece of information for a beginner to know. To get to that information, there is a cross-reference to an online help file on Document Templates. Why isn't this included in the PDF file? It's not like you're paying to print a document. There's no excuse for excluding essential information.
    (5) The PDF files are much easier to work with and don't require you to be online to view them. It's very hard to find the PDF files as noted above. In the earlier Help system there was a clear link at the top of the Help page to the PDF file. Now no one will find them.
    (6) Similar problem with getting to the previous version Help files so you can help someone who is using a previous version.

  • How to use online help instead of local help files?

I know that if I am looking for help in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, I can hit F1 or go to Help -> Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Help...
However, I do not like that doing that sends me to the limited help files that are stored on my local drive.  I would like that link to default to the online help.
Is there any way to do that?
The real reason I want to do this is because I use Mozilla Firefox and tightly control the cookies that sites save on my computer. For sites that I trust, I simply add them to the whitelist. However, I am unable to add file:///C:etc.etc. to my whitelist, so I have to approve 5-8 cookies every time I go to another page within the help files. This is extremely annoying.
In regards to this local help default over internet help, Adobe has said:
The Help menu within the product opens local Help, a subset of the content available in online product Help. Because local Help is not as complete or up-to-date as online product Help, Adobe recommends that you use the PDF version of product Help if you want to stay off-line.
But what if I don't want to use the "subset of the content available in online product Help" and prefer to simply go to the online product Help just like every other Adobe CS4 product?

You could add a custom menu item to the Help menu that executes the following line of code:
    // Acrobat 9 Pro Help
    app.launchURL("http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/pro/using/index.html");
See this tutorial for more information: http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/2006/add_custom_menu_items
