FM9 - boxes around lines in PDF

I just recently switched to FrameMaker 9 and when I PDF my document, I am getting boxes around my line tags.  I use a map title to create "blank lines" for the learners to write their answers.  But, the lines are PDFing with a box around each of the lines.  I didn't have this issue in FM7 or FM8 and I don't know what the problem is.  I've tried to PDF using "Save as PDF" and "Save as.. " and I get the same result.  Does anyone know what I can do?  Is it a setting issue?
Also, if I print using PDF Creator, the lines don't show as stated above, but I have a different issue...several of the map titles go away. such as the header, the footer, the numbers in my step/action tables, etc.

Aletha,
This is a probably a stretch but something to check.
I am guessing that the lines exist on the document's reference pages, so that the user can add the line above or below a paragraph. If the line is an imported or copied graphic file, it is contained within a frame. The frame can be larger than the line. This may also be true of lines created in a frame with FrameMaker's graphics tools. The containing frame adds space around the line.
The point is that this frame has an edge that you can color (apply a pen pattern). The suggestion is that maybe, somehow, the frame edge was given a solid pattern. If so, you simply need to select the frame and set the pen pattern to NONE.
Again, this may be grasping at straws, but can be checked.

  • Boxes around text in PDF's

Sometimes I get a white hairline box around some text when I export to PDF doc. Is there any cure for that?

That's a transpaerncy flattening artifact called "stitching" that normally doesn't show up in high-resolution printing. The obvious answer is to stop flattening the transparency by exporting to PDF using Acrobat 5 or higher comaptibility.
If you search for stitiching in this forum you will find more information than you can read in a week.

  • Gray box around images in PDF and when printing? Why?

    Hi,
I'm using CS5 and I'm getting a gray box around any image embedded in my document.  The box comes if I click on it when a PDF and it prints around them.  I can't seem to figure this one out.  I'm not used to prepping files for print and I'm trying to send this out to someone who needs to print it.
    It's CMYK.
I've tried to flatten transparency using both vector and rasterize.
I've made sure the images are embedded.
    I can't figure this out!!
    Please, help.
    Thanks.

  • White box around text in pdf

Hi. In InDesign CS3, Photoshop 7.0 & of course Acrobat 7.0
I made a Photoshop PDF & brought it into InDesign to export it into a PDF so I can make crop marks.
The PDF in Acrobat & InDesign both had a white box around some of the text. I had embedded the fonts in Photoshop, so I do not understand why that happened. I went back into Photoshop & just retyped over where the box was appearing & this had solved the problem after I repdfed & imported it into ID. Acrobat viewed the text perfect then.
I want to prevent this from happening in the future, does anyone know what I can do to look out for things like this?

Very sorry--that's certainly information I should have included. I have Adobe  Acrobat 9 Standard, version 9.3.3. I'm creating the PDFs from within Microsoft  Word 2007 via the Acrobat tab on the ribbon, clicking "Create PDF."

Sounds like you have a stroke on it. Select the frame and set the stroke to none.

  • Hairline white line around images in PDF for press

    CS3, Windows XP
I searched the forum and didn't find this exact question, so..., I place PSD file in ID. When I export to PDF for the press run, I get a thin hairline white box around the photo. It only seems to happen when the placed image is over a gradient. It also only happens on PDF files for press run - either Press Quality or PDF/X-1a:2001. When I export to "Smallest File Size" it looks fine. I have the border of the image set to 0 and the color to None.
And it only seems to happen sometimes. A month or so ago I created a similar piece using different photos, but the same gradient background and it looked and printed fine.
    Thoughts?

The stitching and a grey box was showing up on my press proofs. The printer suggested that I flatten the image before I send it to them.
Sometimes I see in on screen and sometimes I don't, but my printer says they see it every time and that it will show up on the proof. I've been trying several different PDF exporting options in ID. We are getting the proofs done correctly, but there's only one guy at my printer that can get the file corrected. I'm not sure exactly what he is doing, but one of the people I deal with suggested that he was opening the file in PS, flattening it again, and exporting to PDF, again.
He's the boss and not alway around, so I'm trying to figure out how I can get file exported correctly.
    Thanks for your help.

  • In Adobe Flash CS6, I have a blue box appearing around lines drawn with the line tool (and other tools like brush etc). I can't figure out how to disable.

In Adobe Flash CS6, I have a blue box appearing around lines drawn with the line tool (and other tools like brush etc). Whenever I try to use a tool,  a blue box appears around the line and I have to double click it to manipulate it, which opens just that line in a semi burred screen where all the other objects are semi-grey in the background. I can manipulate this line in this screen but nothing else at that time which I could do about 5 minutes ago. For exampe, I no longer can join up 2 lines drawn by the line tool together. For some reason this started randomly (probably due to a accidental shortcut combination) and I just can't put it back to what it used to be. I have inserted a video hopefully showing what I mean. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Gray Box Around Text Boxes in PDF

I've created a text box with a picture frame "stroke" (the one that looks like a slightly curled piece of paper). When I export the file to PDF and open it in Acrobat, in addition to the background graphic of the paper with the drop shadow, there is a faint box that circumscribes the actual text box within the graphic. This faint box does not display when I view the PDF in Preview (or in Pages). This happens in both Pages 08 and 09. When I print from Pages or Preview, the faint boxes are not there. But when I print from Acrobat, they are. Also, I've created the PDF from both the Share>Export option and the Save PDF option in the Print dialog box, with the same results.
Is there any way to not have this faint box appear in the PDF when viewing it in Acrobat? This problem is preventing me from being able to distribute the document in PDF format to PC users.
    Thanks.

I'm disappointed that Pages '09 still does this, although it may be because of Adobe's wacky way of handling PDF documents. I've posted examples of this on this forum before, but nobody was able to help. The line artifact isn't because of the text box, but rather the picture frame effect you're applying. These lines not only appear on screen in Acrobat, but print that way too.
There is a workaround I use when I create Pages documents using graphic borders like the curled paper one you mention.
Instead of exporting your Pages document as a PDF, use *Print>PDF>Save As Postscript...*
The PDF button is at the bottom of the print dialog box, select *Save As Postcript* from the pull-down.
Once your .ps file is created, double click it and it will open in Preview. Then save it as a PDF from Preview using *File>Save As...>PDF*. Open this file in Acrobat to check it, and you'll find that the border problem has gone away.
One note: Upon close-up side by side comparison, you'll notice that your graphics aren't quite as crisp looking, like they've lost some resolution. But I've had both versions professionally printed at high resolution, and the difference is very minor. It's just that the original Export feature of Pages produces better looking PDF files, especially on Macs. Your PC users have to use Acrobat Reader, which doesn't seem to render PDF documents as nicely on screen.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hyperlinks show up with a box around them in Pages 2 PDF's.

I am excited that web links now show up as hyperlinks. However, when I export a .pdf of the document, the hyperlinks end up with a box around them that makes them unreadable.
Any idea how to get rid of the box. It doesn't show up in the original document. Only when you view invisibles.

    Dennis,
you are right with your thought. I am thankful for every info to get better in every way. The posts in the Pages Discussions are easy to understand and so it should be. Wow, I can tell you, that this is very different to some 3D forums.
After I know how to start the English version of Pages (thank you Matthias, this was a very good advice), I think most people can follow my explanations better, without the time of waiting for your title translations

  • The hyperlinks in my pdf all have a blue shaded box around them when viewing in adobe reader.

The hyperlinks in my pdf all have a blue shaded box around them when viewing in adobe reader. How can I get rid of these? Why is this happening? The pdf was created from a presentation in powerpoint and uses the links for some interactivity.

That's a great feature request. I'd like the ability to turn off the blue boxes over hyperlinks as well.

  • White boxes around PDF files imported to Indesign

I'm trying to create a portfolio of Ads that I've done in the past. I exported them as a PDF and then importing them back into InDesign to fit in a certain picture frame. The problem is that when I import them back to InDesign and then export them as PDF again, some of the original imported images (in the ad) have like a white low opacity box around them. Some of them also have a white strip over the entire ad. These are not visible on screen in InDesign, or on PDF. They're only showing on the final product after print.
I have to point out that all of these ads were printed before and they were just fine. Does this problem sound familiar in InDesign? Is there a solution?

BTW, don't use OSX's preview to look at PDFs created by InDesign if they take advantage of high end features such as live transparency.
Preview simply isn't up to the task and you should be using Acrobat or Reader.

  • Framemaker 9 PDF exports with red boxes around text areas

you might consider saving the FM file as MIF and then looking at the MIF using the wonderful freebie MIFBrowser, from Graham Wideman, from here:

    "Downblast Centrifugal
    Exhaust Ventilator
    Roof Mounted
    Belt Drive"
although just pasting it here it looks like you might have soft carriage returns in it which will make it necessary to just search for the two-word segments.
After you find the phrase, use the left navigation area to walk "up" the MIF file, looking for the specific structure that those words are in (is it a text box, or rather a graphic frame inside a text box, correct?) Is this an anchored frame, or is it just floating? If it's anchored, where is it anchored?
In the MIF, see if you can identify any odd sounding properties of the text box or graphic frame. The MIF reference manual is a PDF found in the FM documentation folder.
Also, one other possibility is that there's something funky with the red swash that goes across the page that's somehow "contaminating" the text frame. What kind of graphic type is the red swash? Could you take a copy of the FM file and remove the swash and then make a PDF, to see if that solves the red outline.
edit: additional questions: are the swash and the text frame on the body page or on the master page? When Arnis suggested checking for graphics behind the text frame, did you also check the master page(s) as well as the body pages?

  • Line on Left SIde and Boxes around Headings in Disco Plus

Anyone have any insight into the issue:
When printing ANY table or Crosstab report from Plus, there is almost always a random line that prints on the left side margin. Also the headings/titles have light gray 'boxes' around them. I have tried ALL of the printing features/settings that are in Plus. I have been through the documentation for 10g (10.1.2.1) Disco Plus and have not found any information that could resolve my issue.
Has anyone experienced this when printing their Disco Plus reports for the following version. This is a major issue for some of out Finance reports as presentation quality is most important aspect of the reporting tool.
