FM9: Show conditional text for entire book -- how?

In FM8, I would select all the docs in my book, then choose Special>Conditional Text>Show/Hide Conditional Text to display the conditional text dialog. Choose my display options (specific conditions, or Show All), then apply. Voila!
In FM9, I can't seem to figure out how to do it. If I follow the same steps, when the dialog appears, all of the options are 'greyed out'.
Help?

Okay, I opened up my book (contains 17 documents, at least 12 of them have conditional text). I have two of the documents displayed so that I can see what's going on.
To 'show all' conditional text for a specific document:
- Click in the document to give it focus.
- Click Show/Hide Conditional Text to display the pod.
- Select Show All and click Apply.
- Success, for that document.
To 'show all' conditional text for the entire book:
- Click in the book pod to give it focus.
- Ctrl+A to select all the documents (all docs are now highlighted)
- View > Show/Hide Conditional Text... to display the pod.
- All options are grayed out, and no conditions appear in the Show or Hide lists.
Am I missing a step somewhere (or more likely, am I doing this totally incorrectly)?

Can I export just the "show" conditional text to a mif?

When I export a document with conditional text to a pdf, just the conditional text that is set to "show" (and the unconditional text) appears in the pdf. That's good, but I want the same thing when exporting a mif. There are two reasons for this:
(1) We have an in-house tool that parses a mif and extracts data from certain tables to populate a database. The tool doesn't parse pdfs. And the tool won't always handle conditional text correctly, particularly conditional text table rows. The tool would work fine if the conditional text were already "resolved" during the export to mif.
(2) I'd like to use the Boolean logic for conditional text that is available in FM9, but I need to furnish files to other groups in the company that use FM7. Their FM7 wouldn't display conditional text properly if it depended on anything other than OR logic. But they would be happy to accept mif files that didn't have any conditional text because it had been "resolved" when I generated a mif7 file for them.
I've tried various ways to convert a pdf into a mif file, but no process seems to preserve the formatting and the editable text. I'd be willing to accomplish this in some round-about fashion involving Framemaker, Acrobat Pro and/or some other tool.
But the happiest outcome for me would be to discover that FM9 already has the ability to export just the "show" conditional text and the unconditional text to a mif.
Or can this be done by making a copy of the document and then somehow automating the deletion of the "hide" conditional text and the conversion of the "show" conditional text to unconditional?

Writing a custom script to filter the MIF to parse out the conditions is non-trivial. You can try a Google search for an existing filter or script that does the job. However, if there is no such thing, then you're on the right track, getting FM to do the hard part - filtering the conditionalized content correctly. For example:
* In a copy of the original file, delete the condition(s) you want to hide; during the deletion, you have the option to delete the corresponding text. Then save as MIF to a descriptive name, or save as .fm to a new name, then open and save that file as MIF. Close the source file without saving.
* Reopen the source file and do the same process from this fresh instance, deleting the condition(s) you want to show. Save as above.
* Within FM itself, however, there's no way to automate this process. With one of the free FM utilities - dobatch from cudspan, or dzbatcher from datazone - you can script opening and saving an FM file as MIF. Search Google for dobatch, cudspan, dzbatcher, or datazone.
* To automate setting the conditions, a keystroke-macro recorder might serve, otherwise you'd need the commercial FrameScript product, and a customized script if there's no existing script for this purpose. For FrameScript info, check with Rick Quattro at frameexpert.com.
* If you're using Structured FrameMaker and have the expertise available to customize an EDD, you could take advantage of the "filter by attribute" feature, but it's not trivial to adopt Structured FM just for this narrowly-focused need.

Report doesnt show the text for employee ids.....

Hi guys,
I am facing the following issue.
We have a report which is fetching data from the infocube.Whenever we check the report we are facing the issue : report doesnt show the text for ~10 employee ids,its showing the key in both key and text columns, its showing both text and key for the remaining employee ids.We checked the master data for employee id and it contains master for the employee ids which are not displayed text in the report.
Can any body help on this.

for your infoobject do you have all three texts available (short, medium and long)? Are all three loaded? You might have the wrong text displayed in your report. Check if you have the short, medium or long texts displayed. Dont forget to check the languages too ....

I am using TCS2 on Windows XP.

I have several files as part of a large FM book. Each file has the same text conditional tags. Can I, at a book level, set my conditions to show/hide, etc. and then update the book? So far, I only know how to open each file, set the SHOW/HIDE CONDITIONAL TEXT as I need it (not to show conditiona indicators and according to my built expression) and then save and close each file.
Is there a way to do all my files at once? Note- I want them all set the same way... so that might make it easier..

I don't have FrameMaker available right now, so I'm working from memory, using the traditional FrameMaker menus, rather than the FM 9 tools.
Select all the files in the book window. With the book window active, open the View menu and look for Conditional Text. Your settings here apply to all selected files in the book window, so it's possible to set conditions on all or some files files. Ctrl+Click to select non-contiguous files; Shift+Click to select a range of contiguous files.

ICal doesn't show all text for the activity

When I updated to iCal version 8.0 i noticed that when I am in week-view, iCal doesn't show all the text for an activity, although there is plenty of room. For example I have a lecture from 9 am - 4 pm and in the activity I put down all the things I have to do, but it only shows the first line for my activity. I need to drag the box or double click on it to see all the text. Can I change this?

Sometimes making the Calendar window bigger, or using full screen allows additional text to be displayed.
View>"Make Text Smaller" is also an option for those with Eagle Eyes.

Elements 8 & 64-bit windows 7--editor shows a bandaid for healing brush; how do I get the circle?

Previous versions of elements would show brush sizes with a circle. Using brackets, you could see the size
increase/decrease. Elements 8 only shows a bandaid for the healing brush, no indication on photo of the brush size. Also, if I set text size to large, some tools show as 3, i.e., 3 hands, 3 bandaids, etc. Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution? I'm using a laptop with Windows 7, 64-bit. Microsoft says the program is compatible.

Make sure that Edit > Preferences > Displays And Cursors > Painting Cursors is set to Normal Brush Tip. If that doesn't help, try deleting the Editor's preferences:

This is a known bug in PSE on Windows 7 -- you have to change the Windows display DPI (text size) to less than 150%.

Track Text Edits for entire Book

In FMv8, is there a way to turn on/off 'Track Text Edits' for all documents in a book (outside of opening all documents and turing it on/off)?

Iphoto shows loading photos for a book, but loading does not complete

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me. I have put together 5 books in Iphoto, and today selected about 60 photos to create a new book. I selected the photos and clicked on "add to" at the bottom of the screen. I then selected "book" and from there "create book". The screen then transfers to "Loading" and the "little progress wheel" appears. The wheel then stops and Iphoto does not progress any further. I then need to force quit to get out of iPhotos. Does anyone out there know what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Outlook 2010 Calendar shows only text for Hyperlinks

I am working on a Windows 7 (enterprise) 32 bit computer installed with Office 2010 in an enterprise environment. Outlook is on Exchange.
In Outlook Mail hyper links look and act normally, however in the Calendar all hyperlinks look like text. You can right click on the text and "select hyperlink" and they turn into a proper visible link you can click on, but the user would like
to have them look and work normally without having to do that.
I have looked at all the settings I can find about hyperlinks in Outlook, and find nothing out of the ordinary and I have also done a repair on the OST in desperation and even uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled Office and downloaded a new OST, however
there is no change. We work in a large enterprise environment and I have probably worked on thousands of computers here and this is not normal for us It seems like this would be some obscure setting I just can't find or perhaps something wrong in the registry.
About the only thing I have not done is reimage the computer, but that seems extreme for this kind of problem, and the user would rather not lose the productive time while I reimage and set it up again. Can someone please help Thanks.

Show long text for Quality Notification when double click field in alv

I have an ALV grid called using a FM and I am using the user command routine to do somthing when a particular cell is clicked. I want to call up the root cause text from the action box of the QN via QM03 . I am building a BDC table to call with a CALL transaction but when I write my BDC up to that point, the program is running the BDC but not going to the point where the long text is displayed is i am in mode 'N'.

Hello,
also try to use the messages clause (of type BDCMSGCOLL).
This will return the system messages.
call transaction 'XXXX' using BDCTAB
                                        mode 'P'
                                        messages into MSG_TAB.
Try to change the mode from 'N' to 'P' and try to place a breakpoint and check what happens.
Alternatively, you can read the Quality Notification text using FM READ_TEXT, and then show this data to the user in pop-up, rather than calling the tx.

FM12: Show/Hide condition does not apply to entire book

FM12: From the Show/Hide Conditional Text pod, Show as per Condition applied to entire book does not consistently update book with correct condition. Now to get the desired condition, I have to apply the condition per section in the book. Has the workflow for this feature changed with FM12? Or is it a bug? Thanks, Patti

No, you don't. You can apply it to all component files in one operation. In the Book menu, select all component files.
View > Show/Hide Conditional Text

As Arnis pointed out, you do need to Update the book for complete re-application of Conditions.
Edit > Update Book
{select all possibly excluding Apply Master Page}
In particular, any Cross-References to conditionalized text will still be as they were until xrefs are updated.
We exclude AMP from Update because it is unstable in FM7, and run it as a separate operation, and re-Update book after that because pagination may have changed.
