FME 2.5 / 3 Freezing entire computer on startup. Any Ideas?
Hello, I am using FME 2.5 (have tried with 3 as well) and VH Multi Cam Studio to stream to justin.tv. This used to work before I installed visual studio 2008, which i need for work. Now when I start up FME 2.5 / 3 anytime (even a fresh reboot), it freezes my entire computer, which then requires a hard reset. It pops up VH, then the FME Flash screen, then freezes. I don't even see a log or anything. I have searched everywhere to figure out why this is happening, but to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas on how i could fix this issue? Thanks a ton!
-Mike
First I would try if VH Multi Cam Studio works in grapedit,
if it runs, try perhaps another Capture Device in FME,
(Defaulting to another device in the startup.xml)
perhaps deinstall VH Multi Cam to check if FME comes up,
or you can use VS2008 to check which module crashs!

While doing a non-iTunes upgrade to 8.02 my iPad froze on the apple screen. After hours of waiting I forced a power off. Froze in same place. Tried attaching to iTunes on PC from power off. Freezing in same place. Any ideas on how to get past this so that I can at least run a restore?
I Don't know that recovery mode would work, but did you try it?
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
IF that fails, have you considered erasing the device using Find my iPhone in iCloud.com? I'm not sure what good that would do either of the iPad continues to freeze, but if nothing else is working ..... -
How do I get my Mac, G5, 10.5.8, to print? Printer tech support thinks it is a computer problem. Any ideas?
Hi Dwayne,
If necessary (unless your operating system already contains the printer software needed), a downloadable driver for a Deskjet 5420v Photo Printer (is this the exact model?) and Mac OS 10.5 appears to exist according to the support web page below:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=1105187&lc=en&cc=us& dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us
To begin with, have you verified that the printer is able to print at all (that the print cartridges are OK, et cetera)? This can usually be done by trying to print a test page (from the computer) via an HP printer utility, or possibly by generating a self-test page (without a connected computer) using an appropriate button combination on the printer itself.

My iphone 3gs will not turn on. I plug it in to the wall and still get nothing...I plug into my computer and itunes nor my computer recognizes it, any ideas?
Could be a problem with the 30-pin connector port or the cable. Is there an Apple Store or Apple authorized support center nearby?

can't update my ipod with 49 downloads even though my computer is registered - any ideas?
Be sure you've turned off any antivirus, spyware, malware type software. Then try [Unable to update or restore|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808]. Hopefully that will work, or you'll get more specific error messages which [this kb|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275] can help interpret.

Accessing itunes store freezes entire computer
After installing 7.0.1 whenever I try to open itunes it attempts to go directly to the itunes store and immediately freezes my entire computer. Sometimes I can force quit out of itunes, but most of the time I have to shut down the whole system.
Strangly, the itunes store works fine when I open it in my administrative account. I had a number of problems pertaining to the gapless playback in version 7.0.0, so going back to that is not an option.
I have tried reinstalling a number of times, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
-zeke
PowerBook G4 1 GHz 15-inch Mac OS X (10.4.8)I'm trying to access the iTunes store through a restricted network at uni, thus I'am unable to launch many applications which require network connectivity, would the iTunes store come under this and if so is that the reason it freezes my computer? As I thought that perhaps iTunes is unable to connect fully due to the network restrictions (partial display) therefore gets stuck in a loop without any exit strategy (reason for no error message) and thus crashes.

ITunes keeps freezing entire computer
Ok, I have an early 2008 macbook and have the most recent iTunes installed. I believe its 11.02 or something. I wish I could give more information but it keeps freezing up my entire computer when it opens. I have to restart my computer to get it working again and don't dare open iTunes. I've done everything. I have deleted it and and reinstalled it and deleted and tried downgrading to 10.7. Everytime I open it, it tells me I have to upgrade and I have tried opening it with pacifist as well and the same thing. I have tried upgrading for the 10.7 on the prompt and still just freezes up everything. I can't do anything with it!! Please help. I would like to put some music on my iPod and use it for its intended purpose.
Is this just Apple's way into forcing me to get a new macbook? lol
This is the discussion I followed for deleting and downgrading.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4553695?start=15&tstart=0I have also tried using other music players such as clementine and songbird and they also freeze my entire mac upon opening.

IChat AV freezes entire computer
My husband's iChat crashes often and freezes the computer--he cannot force quit the application, the colored ball spins and spins and he must do a hard reset of his G4 Cube with lots of memory, running Tiger.
It crashes many of the times (but not every time) when he tries to do a video or an audio chat, There is no problem with written IMs.
Once in a while, he can hear me but his microphone shows him that it's not on and it won't go on, and of course, I cannot hear him.
Here is the log from this morning. I had him copy it immediately following his two consecutive freezes, one when he tried to AudioChat with me,(when I accepted, his machine froze) and one when I saw him back on line after that failed and I then tried to initiate an audio chat with him. When he accepted, he froze again. He emailed me this log.

I was trying to suggest all the likely causes based on my experience that were not
b specifically
ruled out by the info you posted. I now understand that you are an experienced user who did not need to check some of my suggestions, but I did not know that from your initial post. I am just communicating here and trying to help.
Why would you assume the battery is bad...
I have four reasons, although I did not "assume the battery is bad". I only asked how long since it had been replaced.
(a) Because I did not know from your initial post that you were such an experienced user who could spot such problems.
(b) Because the Mac Cube is an old enough model to make a weak battery a possibility if it had not been replaced recently.
(c) Because the Performa PPC that I owned at the time the beautiful Cube was introduced
b twice
gave me strange problems (other than date and time) that required battery replacement to correct.
(d) Until your second post, I did not know that all other apps were working fine.
This is a log following a hard freeze (repeatable) caused by iChat/iSight, not following a kernel panic.
With that information, my first recommendation is
b still
a Safe Boot.
Then, and after again doing any other required maintenance, Apple's Isolating issues in Mac OS X Technical Support Article may be of help in tracking down what needs to be reinstalled. -

Hello ,

My macbook freezes after last update.. any idea how to fix that?
I did last update on App store and now my macbook get slow and also freezes any idea how to fix it?
Try reconnecting with App Store to see if there is yet another update available, if yes, update your mac to the latest Apple is offering at the moment.
As for slow downs and freezes, try these steps:
1. Run Disk Utility and Repair Permissions then verify / repair disk if needed.
2. Next Follow these steps:
Shut down your Mac.
Turn on the computer and immediately hold down Command (⌘), Option, P, and R keys simultaneously.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
3. If all else fails download and run "Onyx" for Mountain Lion. -
Time machine backup freezes on initial backup attempt - any ideas?
I just purchased a Seagate 3 TB USB 2.0/3.0 external drive to use as my time machine backup drive. I have a MacBook Pro that was purchased about 3-4 years ago. The MacBook Pro has a 120 GB hard drive and is currently running MAC OSx 10.6.8. I also have another WD 1 TB FireWire external drive that I use to store all of my media files.
After I followed the instructions for installing the new Seagate drive for use with the MAC OSx, I initiated a time machine backup. It very quickly determined that it needed to back up almost 900,000 files totaling just about 400 GB. It started the backup process at a rate of about 1 GB per minute. In a little less than an hour it reach 53 GB and remained there for an additional two hours before I decided to stop the backup.
Once I got the backup stopped, I deleted the backup and decided to look at my energy saving settings. I noticed that the "Put drives to sleep whenever possible" check box was checked, so I unchecked that option and restarted the MAC. I then initiated the time machine backup again. Like the first time it quickly determined that it needed to backup the same amount of data as before and started the backup process at a rate of about 1 GB per minute. Before going to bed at around 11 PM last night it was at about 60 GB so I thought I was out of the woods (having gotten further than the 53 GB earlier). When I woke up this morning at 5:30 AM it was sitting at 69 GB.
I am really frustrated at this point and don't know why the time machine back up would be failing on a brand new hard drive. Does anyone have any ideas?
PS - I was previously using a Seagate 1.5 TB USB drive as my time machine backup and never had any issues with it. I decided to use the 1.5 TB drive for a different purpose, which is why I have the new 3 TB drive to use as a backup. And I still have the full backup on the 1.5 TB drive just in case anything were to go awry.Your best bet is probably to deal with the kernel panics first; whatever's causing that may be part or all of the cause of the other problem.
They are usually caused by hardware problems, but can be software, especially kernel extensions.
Start by running this: Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test. Run the Extended tests(that may take an hour or so, depending on how much RAM you have). Write down any error code(s) it shows.
If that doesn't show a problem, see this Apple article: If “You need to restart your computer” appears
If that doesn't help, post a new thread about the kernel panics, with as much detail about what's running (or not running) at the time, etc. -
Msn messenger has frozen, can't turn off computer...any ideas?
Hi there
Can't sign in to msn messenger, i can't quit it either, computer won't turn off. I can't seem to get rid of it. Any ideas, anybody?Do you otherwise have control of the iMac? Can you Force Quit Messenger. Force Quit is located in the Apple menu.
If not, press and hold the power button until the iMac turns off. This is a hard shut down.

Macbook pro OSX Version 10.9.4
Top row of letters, e-o, are sluggish and not working each time press them.
I have cleaned underneath them, I did not spill anything or drop the computer - It just started to happen.
Any ideas????The behavior of the keyboard not responding after the machine is on and used for a time sounds a lot like swelling under the keyboard…the battery is under the keyboard, processor to the side, and issues with trackpads and keyboards have often ended up being a battery swelling. Makes it worth while taking the MacBook Pro in sooner rather than later to have it checked. The techs may ask to keep the machine for a few hours so they can run it long enough to see the behavior if nothing shows immediately on their diagnostics.
When things like this happen, my attitude is on the conservative side…check it out before it can get worse. -
Safari Freezes Entire Computer When visiting ESPN or TSN (i.e. Flash)
My new Macbook Pro freezes frequently when I visit flash intensive sites such as ESPN or TSN. I try to force quit but the window does not pop up. I then have to shut down manually. I have done this 6 times in one month now. Is this bad for the computer? Why is this happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
DaveHi Dave,
You can "force quit" an application without having to shut down your Mac.
Go to your Applications folder then open the Utilities folder. Open the *Activity Monitor* application.
From the pop up on the right select: *My Processes*
Select Safari then click the red *Force Quit* button top left side of the window. You can do that with other applications as well.
While you have the Activity Monitor app open press and hold the icon in the Dock, then click Options / Keep in Dock. That way it's easy to access. It won't hurt your Mac to force it to shut down but better to quit an app using Activity Monitor if you can.
As for Flash. Follow the instructions here for troubleshooting Flash - Mac OS X
