FMIS 3.5 on MS Server 2008 Web Edition
Can't get a clear answer on this - Does FMIS 3.5 run on an MS 2008 Web Edition Server (64bit)?
If you mean Windows Server 2008 then we do support Windows Server 2008 - but it would be advisable to have Enterprise Edition than Web Edition - i will try to find out official stand on this (and may be there is a point that it need to be clear in system requirements we have stated as of now).
As per me, you can install FMS on it and it should run fine without any issues but how much it will scale is something which is not clear for me.

How to install Oracle Instantclient on Windows Server 2008 Web Edition
I am trying to install the Oracle Instantclient on our Windows Web server (x64).
* I downloaded instantclient-basic-win-x86-64-11.1.0.7.0
* Extracted to c:\instantclient
* appended the directory to the path
* created system variable 'SQL_PATH' with same path
* gave everyone all rights to the instantclient folder
* gave network service explicitly all rights to the instantclient folder
* rebooted IIS
* rebooted the server
But still my application keeps returning with System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.
What am i missing/doing wrong? It seems i have mixed and merged all possible solutions which Google would return.Since System.Data.OracleClient is a Microsoft library, you'd better ask them.
Or use Oracle's provider:

URGENT! CF8 on Windows Server 2008 WEB
Hi,
Can anyone here please tell me if Coldfusion 8 will run on "Windows Server 2008 Web"?
It does not list it in ther system requirements? Better still has anyone here actually installed it on this version opersating system?
Thanks,
AaronThanks for the prompt reply mate!
I have already had a look for some online help but have been unsuccessful thus far. There does not seem to be much with regard to the "WEB" edition. Do you know of any please?
I have already installed CF8 on our PC running Win Server 2008 Web. At the end of the install the only error I got was that it couldn't access the CF Admin setup page because the MIME types were not recognised. I then added those through IIS but when I went to the CF Admin page it is all in goobily ****....if you know what I mean? -
Can I downgrade to Windows 2008 Web edition with Windows 2012R2 Standard?
I read through 2012R2 licensing guide. It tells 2012 Standard can downgrade to 2008 Essential, Standard and Enterprise edition. Whereas 2012 Datacenter can downgrade to any prior editions.
So I can only buy a most expensive 2012 Datacenter to downgrade a cheapest 2008 Web edition? It seems not making sense to user, isn't it?
Ok, there is no web edition in 2012, then at least I should be allowed to downgrade with Standard edition? Make sense? Anyone can help or comment? Thanks a lot. Please contact MS licensing team to get more info.

Is web server going away as part of Windows Server 2012 and why?
Yes, The Web Server product was designed primarily for end customers and service providers that wanted to host web sites. However, consistent feedback from these customers and partners has been that they prefer to use an edition of Windows Server that does
not restrict usage to running web workloads.
Despite the removal of Web Server edition, web workloads running on a Windows Server 2012 edition will continue to receive the “CAL waiver” that is in effect for these workloads today. Windows Server CALs will not be required to access the licensed server if
it is only being used to run web workloads. See

Can we use SQL Server 2012 Web Edition as a witness server in mirroring?
Hi All,
Can we use SQL Server 2012 Web Edition as a witness server in mirroring?
Grateful to your time and support. Regards, ShivaHi All,
Can we use SQL Server 2012 Web Edition as a witness server in mirroring?
Grateful to your time and support. Regards, Shiva
As Per BOL
We strongly recommend that the witness reside on a separate computer from the partners. Database mirroring partners are supported only by SQL Server 2005 Standard and later versions and by SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition and later versions.
Witnesses, in contrast, are also supported by SQL Server 2005 Workgroup and later versions and by SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and later versions. Except during an upgrade from an earlier version of SQL Server, the server instances in a
mirroring session must all be running the same version of SQL Server. For example, a SQL Server 2005 witness is supported when you are upgrading from a SQL Server 2005 mirroring configuration but cannot be added to an existing or new SQL Server 2008 or later
mirroring configuration.
A witness can run on any reliable computer system that supports any of these editions of SQL Server. However, we recommend that every server instance that is used as a witness correspond to the minimum configuration that is required for the SQL Server Standard
version that you are running. For more information about these requirements

Unable to add replication feature in sql server 2012 web edition
Hi All,
We are using SQL Server 2012, Web edition and when it was installed replication is not an added feature so I tried to add this feature but getting below error.
Error: There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer.
Description: The version of SQL Server instance MSSQLSERVER does not match the version expected by the SQL Server update. The installed SQL Server product version is 11.1.3000.0, and the expected SQL Server version is 11.0.2100.60
And also please let me know how to identify the default file location of the setup file 'setup.exe' for SQL Server 2012 (Webedition, 64bit) Grateful to your time and support.
I'm using "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2777772\QFE\setup.exe" to add replication feature, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thank You.
Regards,
Kalyan
----Learners Curiosity Never Ends----It looks like you are trying to add Replication Components, however, you are using the Cumulative update package 5 setup, which is wrong.
Note that you will not find the setup file for SQL Server on your file system, it will be on your installation media.
To install SQL Server Replication Components, locate your installation media and run Setup.exe. Select the add features to an existing instance option, select your instance, and add replication components.

For the captioned issue, is it possible? We have successfully created linked server between 2 MS SQL server 2008 standard edition, but failed for the standard and express edition. Is there any trick to setup? Thanks.
Hello,
SQL Server Management Studio Express Edition may not allow to create a linked server, but the workaround is to use the T-SQL. You can use sp_addlinkedserver and sp_addlinkedsrvlogin.
Hope this helps.

setup-program the following error is coming:
'Windows cannot open this program since it has been disabled.'
I think the program is suppressed by Microsoft.

Hi,
What is the proper way to demote a Windows 2003 Domain Controller running SQL Server 2008 WorkGroup Edition?
I will be migrating AD from Win 2003 to 2012....
Thanks in advanced.Running SQL on a domain controller is highly not recommended for performance reasons and for complexities it introduces in the management of both systems (You are already facing this situation now).
I would recommend proceeding like the following before demoting your domain controller:
Install a new SQL server on a member server
Migrate your databases to the new SQL server
Once done, you can safely demote your DC.

I have been using Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition for my business purpose and there are at-least 30 Users who logged in into the server Via Remotely from different location. I want to upgrade my server with latest one with some extra cores and RAM for
better and smooth operations for all users. So, i have a doubt whether my CAL Licenses will works with Windows Server 2012 or i need to purchase the new one for the same?
Moreover, if i don't upgrade my Windows to any 2012 edition and stay on 2008 Standard Edition how much maximum RAM can be installed at a time? is there any limitations? if Yes, please let me know how do i upgrade my Windows 2008 Standard Edition to any other
business edition to avoid such limitations of RAM?
Waiting for your favorable and quick response.Hi again,
th eupgrade optiuon from Standard 2008 to Enterprise 2008 was only available for customers with open value contract with activ esoftware assurance then they can purchase the step up license from Standard to Enterprise.
the only way to have the Enterprise 2008 Edition is to make th edowngrad efrom 2012 Standard to 2008 Enterprise. it means that if you purchase the 2012 R2 Standard Edition, you may downgarde to Enterprise 2008/2008 R2. th ebest way to make the downgrade
to 2008 R2 Enterprise is to purchase the current Version 2012 R2 Standard in volume licensing than you can download diretly from VLSC the Enterprise Edition.
with your downgrade you can still using the 2008 CALs.
thanks

I have downloaded the MS Security Compliance Manager, which is in two parts: MS SQL Server 2008 Express Edition & the SCM. The install instructions state the the server needs to be install before the SCM. So as the install continues I get
an error message, which cancels the installation. So, I am trying to install SQL 2008 EE separate from SCM. My question is:
Can I upgrade from my current SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition [ENU]
directly to SQL Server 2008 Express Edition (or higher)? So as the install continues I get an error message, which cancels the installation.
And which error message did you got?
SQL Server Compact Edition is something different then SQL Server Express (or Standard) Edition, you can't upgrade it as you asked for,.
