FMS 3.5.3 crashing on CentOS

ISSUE #1 WITH FMS 3.5.3
I just upgraded one of our servers running FMS 3.0 to FMS 3.5.3 but it causes a sudden spike in server load causing the server to crash. I managed to see an error after I tried to stop FMS during one of its server load spikes:
NPTL 2.3.4
Stopping Adobe Flash Media Server (please check /var/log/messages)
*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop): 0xf3a21ef0 ***
FMS 3.0 worked fine on this server with the exception of the admin server crashing once in a while. We have FMS 3.5.2 running on another CentOS server without any issues. We're now hesitant to upgrade other servers to FMS 3.5.3 until we hear back from Adobe on this issue.
P.S: This server is live and very active so it's possible that playback of a live or VOD stream is causing these crashes because they started happening after we turned it on for customers. It didn't seem to crash when it was running on its own with some local testing.
ISSUE #2 WITH FMS 3.5.3
We are using multiple vhosts on the server. After the upgrade we started noticing the following errors for most vhosts:
2010-01-08      02:48:19        17019   (i)2641213      Connection rejected by server. Reason : [ Server.Reject ] : (_defaultRoot_, XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX) : Application (live) is not defined. -
After lots of brainstorming I discovered the issue to be related to folder permissions. The parent folders of the applications/ folders needed to be made group and public readable. This does not appear to be case with FMS 3.5.2 on our other server. Did something change with folder permissions requirements of applications/ in FMS 3.5.3 that we should know about?

Hey bobakb,
I'd like to get this fixed for you.  Unaware of what the problem is yet, but with your permission I'd like to get you a free support incident to track down the issue.  If that's alright I'll have Adobe support get in touch with you and guide the bug up to make sure we get an early resolution.
Let me know,
Asa

  • FMS 4.5 crashes on Centos  5.5 or above

    Hi,
    After upgrading to FMS 4.5.4 from FMS 4.0, we ran into this weird problem. FMScore started consuming 85 to 95 % of physical RAM. The drawback of it is after 3 to 4 days FMS crash down itself. Below are the  logs for the same. We are doing live streaming (kind of live video chat). There are almost 400 users and max 10 to 12 simultaneous video conf  during the busy hours.
    Core Hw/Sw Configuration:-
    Processor :- Interl Xeon E5620 2.40 Ghz
    Ram         :- 16GB
    OS           :- Centos 5.5
    Note:- We never faced this kind of issue with FMS 4.0
    Thanks,

    I'm running dbstudio 7.7.03.23 on CentOS 5.2 / RHEL 5.2 with SUN JDK 1.6.0_07. Now I tried to run 7.7.04.26 but can't get it to work on my test machine with the same OS and JDK but it simply crashes like this:
    An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:

    Aborted
    It looks like the crashes are a bit random because they seem to happen in different places.
    The Logfile is pasted below. Do you have any idea what's going wrong here? I'm happy to help debugging the issue if I can help doing so.
    Thanks,

    Hello Melanie,
    Thanks for looking into it. The file sdb/DatabaseStudio/.metadata/.plugins/com.sap.sdb.tools.core/dbstudio.log shows only this:
    Database Studio
    Version           : 1.0
    Eclipse Version   : 3.2.0
    ====================> current write pos <====================
    The file sdb/DatabaseStudio/.metadata/.log deoesn't exist.
    I think the problem is because dbstudio doesn't reach a state where it starts logging.
    Now, I tried to investigate again and found a solution. Somehow one of the shipped libs produces the crashes. It's in org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.3.0.v3346.jar. So I simply put org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.4.0.v3448f.jar from a newer eclipse build into /opt/sdb/programs/DatabaseStudio/plugins/ and voila, it works. Tried it on different hosts and it works on all of them. I tool the file from the eclipse 'ganymede' release.
    I know that doesn't really tell where the problem is but at least it's a workaraound for me.
    Thanks,
    Simon

  • FMS 4.5 not installing on Centos 5.7 32bit

    Hi
    i am going to upgrade fms 4 to 4.5 on a centos 5.7 32bit box.
    From installer i get:
    ERROR: Your architecture, \'i686\', is not supported by the Adobe Flash Media Server installer.
    FMS 4 installs correctly.
    Any help is welcomen.
    regards
    Ros

    this isn't the only mistake/problem Adobe has had packaging FMS 4.5.  I have installed centOS5.7 in a VM  as a 32 bit O/S I was planning to install FMS 4.5 tomorrow and patch up apache in an attempt to stream to Apple/IOS devices but after reading this post I may have to rethink those plans Luckily I have a 64 bit machine and an empty partition that I can install on if the VM doesn't pan out. Good Luck To You Sir!

  • HelloWorld Help Needed

    Hi Adobe Community,
    I'm writing because I need some assistance with the HelloWorld example in the FMS 4 documentation.
    My setup is as follows all on a local network:
    Server
    Flash Media Server 4
    Apache 2.2 (used FMS installer to set this up)
    CentOS 5.3
    Firewall Disabled (for simplicity at the moment)
    Dev Machine
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Flash CS5
    I installed FMS 4 just fine. I can reach the Administrator console, view the index.html, play the videos etc.
    I created a folder called HelloWorld under the installpath/applications directory. I placed my HelloWorld.asc file as built and instructed by the documentation.
    On the developement machine I have my HelloWorld.fla + HelloWorld.as script in the same directory.
    I set the connection line HelloWorld.as to... :
    nc.connect("rtmp://192.168.1.4/HelloWorld");
    This way it would point out to the FMS server and I get the following from trace() after testing (aka building the swf):
    Connecting...
    Error #2044: Unhandled NetStatusEvent:. level=error, code=NetConnection.Connect.Failed
         at HelloWorld/connectHandler()
    I found on here searching around that the following line needed to be added to HelloWorld.as:
    import flash.events.NetStatusEvent;
    Can an expert please assist me? Any responses are better than no response
    Best,
    AmarettoSlim

    I checked edge.00.log and don't see RTMP showing... rather RTMFP... I changed my nc.connect() to use rtmfp instead and it looks like it hangs now and finally shows a failure in the output of my test SWF....
    How would I get RTMP to be listed as listening in the edge log?

    Meanwhile the CentOS 5 installation works fine.
    Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be or whether there is a workaround?
    Thanks!

    Thanks again to "r.circa" who came up with the original solution. Here are some updated instructions that don't require creating a symbolic link to fix the libcap issue.
    I was able to get 4.5.4 working on RHEL 6.3. Here's what to do:
    Update to latest errata with 'yum update'; reboot
    Also make sure you have latest version of both libcap and compat-libcap1 packages (via yum update...)
    Exract the latest FMS install archive (4.5.4 as of this writing).
    In that folder, for a successful, error-free install you need to edit three files:
    server
    adminserver
    installFMS
    For 'server' and 'adminserver', edit these sections as follows:
      # Red Hat Linux
      if [ -f /etc/redhat-release ]; then
            cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux [WAE]S release 3" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL3-i686
            cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux [WAE]S release 4" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL4-i686
            cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL5-i686
            cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Client release 5" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL5-i686
            cd_check "CentOS release 4" /etc/redhat-release centos-4-i686
            cd_check "CentOS release 5" /etc/redhat-release centos-5-i686
            DIST='RedHat'
            PSUEDONAME=`cat /etc/redhat-release | sed s/.*\(// | sed s/\)//`
            REV=`cat /etc/redhat-release | sed s/.*release\ // | sed s/\ .*//`
        DIST="${DIST} ${REV} ${PSUEDONAME}"
            cd_result $DIST
    ..and:
    # check distribution
    PLATFORM="Linux"
    ARCH=`uname -m`
    SUPPORT=0
    DISTRO=`check_distro`
    case $DISTRO in
        redhat-RHEL5-i686)
        redhat-RHEL6-i686)
        centos-5-i686)
        Debian)
    Similarly, for installFMS edit these sections as follows:
      # Red Hat Linux
      if [ -f /etc/redhat-release ]; then
      cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux [WAE]S release 3" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL3-i686
      cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux [WAE]S release 4" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL4-i686
      cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL5-i686
      cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL6-i686
      cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Client release 5" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL5-i686
      cd_check "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Client release 6" /etc/redhat-release redhat-RHEL6-i686
      cd_check "CentOS release 4" /etc/redhat-release centos-4-i686
      cd_check "CentOS release 5" /etc/redhat-release centos-5-i686
      DIST='RedHat'
      PSUEDONAME=`cat /etc/redhat-release | sed s/.*\(// | sed s/\)//`
      REV=`cat /etc/redhat-release | sed s/.*release\ // | sed s/\ .*//`
        DIST="${DIST} ${REV} ${PSUEDONAME}"
      cd_result $DIST
    and...
    # check distribution
    PLATFORM="Linux"
    DISTRO=`check_distro`
    case $DISTRO in
        redhat-RHEL5-i686)
        redhat-RHEL6-i686)
        centos-5-i686)
            Debian)
    run installFMS as normal and it should just work.
    I hope that helps. I also hope Adobe starts to support RHEL 6 users. Seriously, how much effort would it take?

  • FMS 4.5 and CentOS 6.1

    FMS 4.5 lists CentOS 5.5 as a supported OS. Has it been tested on CentOS 6.1? Setting up a new server with FMS 4.5 and wondering if it's best to stick with CentOS 5.5 or if it should be OK to use CentOS 6.1. Thanks.

    Everything seems to check out ok.  I've tried the server in multiple configurations.  Cent OS 6.2, 6.1, 5.5 with no firewall (iptables --flush).  All instances seem to fail in the same way.
    Though I believe this may be issue with my web host.  I'm currently using Mediatemple.com and their VE service and this is where I have issue.
    http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/ve/.   I don't believe they are blocking ports, so must be something else.
    Does FMS have any known issues in the Virtuozzo environment?
    I have CentOS 6.2 running on a local machine.... and FMS will work without any special configuration!!

  • FMS on CentOS

    Hello,
    I'm having trouble getting FMS2 installed on CentOS. I have
    looked all over for information, but can't seem to solve the
    problem. After a fresh install in everything appears to install OK,
    it says server started.
    So i think everything is working fine. When i go to load an
    application I get this in the logs:
    Failed to create thread (TCServerConnector::startConnector)
    Server aborted
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hi Smidge12,
    At this point I cannot still help you because I cannot even
    run the fms server, only the admin server.
    Which version of CentOS are you running? Did you also have to
    install compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386.rpm. This one made it
    the installer to go through.
    Do you have both servers running , ie, admin and fms?
    If you have any hints or links to provide me, I'd be
    grateful. May be once I get to running both servers I get the same
    error and we both can tackle the problem.
    Cheers.

  • JVM crashing on Linux VM (CentOS) Guest machine

    Hi All
    We have headless CentOS VirtualBox VMs configured over headless CentOS (6) machine (32 bit machine). The guest VM has Sun JDK 1.7 installed on the system with Tomcat 7 as the app server.
    Recently the tomcat JVM has started crashing giving Segmentation faults. The issue is fixed after the whole VM is restarted. Am attaching the JVM crash logs which might help in further investigation.
    Please let us know if anyone has faced similar issue in the past and possible configurations the we might be missing.

    After installing LaBVIEW 2011 and NI-VISA 5.1.2 on a CentOS 6.2 PC, I had noticed a problem with trying to use the VISA vi's in LabVIEW, basically it's not working for me, LabVIEW crashed when trying to create a control or constant for the VISA Open vi.  Tried to launch the VISA tools, they all start and then close abruptly.  NI I/O Trace only shows one line.
    I did read though many threads and decided to collect the NI system.log, which is attached. (system.log.gz).  I did notice a strange message in here about nivisaserver:
    /usr/bin/tail --lines=25 /var/log/messages:
    May 22 11:18:48 localhost abrtd: Package 'nivisaserver' isn't signed with proper key

    Hi MountainMan,
    Thanks for attaching the system report log -- I believe I have a solution for you :-) Let's look at a few of the lines:
    890: /proc/meminfo:
    891: MemTotal: 3894712 kB
    1726: /proc/iomem:
    1784: 100000000-12dffffff : System RAM
    1807: /bin/dmesg:
    1820: BIOS-provided physical RAM map: 2576: [nipal] More than 4GB of addressable memory detected.
    1838: BIOS-e820: 0000000100000000 - 000000012e000000 (usable)
    2576: [nipal] More than 4GB of addressable memory detected.
    2577: [nipal] This configuration is not supported. Check the release notes for more information.
    Starting at the bottom at lines 2576..2577, dmesg had more than just the NI-VISA server signing notification. At system boot, the NI kernel modules refused to load because they detected more than 4 GB of addressable memory. But, if you look towards the top at lines 890..891, meminfo says you have less than 4 GB of system memory, which makes it seem like the NI modules don't know what they're talking about. However, if you look at the report from iomem a little further down on lines 1726..1784, system RAM has been re-mapped above the 4 GB boundary. While your system doesn't have more than 4 GB of RAM, some of its memory has addresses above 4 GB, which the NI modules cannot use and so they refuse to load. How did that happen? Your system BIOS provided a physical RAM map with usable addresses above the threshold (line 1838).
    The fix here is simple -- you need to tell the kernel to reserve addresses above 4 GB [1] so that it won't remap the RAM to higher memory. Once all of the RAM has addresses below the 4 GB threshold, the modules should load and VISA/LabVIEW/et al should stop misbehaving.
    It seems to me that LabVIEW is not handling this situation very gracefully, and maybe you can work with Kira to file a bug report.

  • OracleXE crashes straight after install (CentOS 4.5)

    I Installed the Oracle XE rpm:s (client and server) and then run /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure as instructed. I did not change any port assignements from the defaults.
    After this, no Oracle server was running, and I finally found out that it had crashed, leaving a trace file in /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/admin/XE/udump/xe_ora_3142.trc.
