FMS Community Help is live

Hey FMS Developers,
Adobe's new Community Help engine is now powering the Flash
Media Server 3.5 docs.
http://community.adobe.com/help/about.html
There are two parts of Community Help: search and commenting.
Search: When you search from the Flash Media Server Help and
Support page (
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashmediaserver/)
and select "Community Help" you're searching a custom set of URLs
that include the Flash Media Server docs and selected community
content (blogs, tutorial sites, and so on).
Commenting: You can log in and add comments to the Flash
Media Server 3.5 docs (
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashMediaServer/3.5_Welcome/).
Moderators approve comments and assign points for posts that
correct errors, add code examples, or augment the documentation.
I'm not honestly sure what happens with the points, but I'll find
out :-).
The docs are much improved when they include information from
your real-world experiences so I look forward to your feedback and
additions. Also, if you have any suggestions for the docs that you
want to send me personally, please feel free.
Thanks,
JOdy

Press F1.
Should take you to Using Adobe Flash CS4 (what I'm using or CS5 I'm guessing if you have updated).
Click ActionScript 2.0 and Components in left nav column.
Click ActionScript 2.0 Components Language Reference link in right content area.
Click the plus next to Actionscript 2.0 Components Language Reference in left nav tree column.
Scroll down to FLVPlayback Component.
Click the plus next to it.
What you need is there.
We used to have IE 6 at work and the pages don't work with that. (Not likely your problem, but just in case!)
Or you could just bookmark:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS2LCR/Flash_10.0/help.html?content=Part4_AS2_Components_LangR ef_1.html
From there you can get all AS2 classes and component classes.

  • Search Function does not work in Community Help

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help.
I use the Adobe Master Suite and have enjoyed the Community Help Application/Client.  I could do online searches for information with no issues.   In checking were I stood as far as offline documenation, I decided to download all of the Suite Documentation through the CHC Perferences through the Updater Settings and doing a manual download.  I believe (though not positive) is when my problems began.
First, I have a MacBook Pro runing OSX 10.6.8 with FireFox Browser 9.01 (not sure the browser information is needed).  Adobe Community Help Version is 3.5.0.23 and the Adobe AIR application is version 3.1
At this point I am able to view the online help files in the main viewing screen.  However, when I try and do a search, nothing shows up excpet a little dynamic clock icon showing that it is working and eventually it comes back with a dialog that says:  "An unexpected error has occured.  Please try your search again."
Here is the screen shot before the search:
And here is the image after trying a search:
After several attempts to fix this myself, I am not asking help on the forum.  The last attemp I made was to
    - Uninstall AIR using the uninstall app under Applicaitons/Utilities/Adobe AIR Uninstaller.app
    - Deleted the folder   "user"/Library/Preferences/chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
    - Running the AIR installer (I downloaded the most recent version): Adobe AIR Installer.app
    - And then running the Adobe CHC help application directly: Adobe Help.app
If I set preferences to open up in a Browser, that works just fine yet would prefer to use the CHC interface.
Thanks in advance for any help including pointers on how to dig myself out of this hole I seem to be in.
    John
ADDED EDIT: When I click the OK button on the error dialog, the main view window again shows the Adobe help information as in the first image.

There is a thread on the topic on the Photoshop forum: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4124703#4124703
    Strange, it works in CS4
But you guys are able to go to http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/index.html right?
It might be useful to know that you can set Community Help Sites as a search engine in your browser (it should offer you to register itself as a search engine, while Safari users have to add Glims to add additional search engines.) http://blogs.adobe.com/communityhelp/2009/01/opensearch_plugins_available_f.html

  • New update for Community Help application - version 3.5 now available

Hi: just a quick announcement that the engineering team has released version 3.5 of the Adobe Community Help application.  This update is a very significant release that directly addresses a lot of the feedback that we’ve been hearing from the community.  The most significant changes include:
    Feature
    Benefit
    1.
    Tabbed Browsing
Ability to open multiple pages   from multiple sources simultaneously
    2.
    Favorites/Bookmarks
Ability to bookmark your   favorite URLs; note: we prepopulate a set of suggested bookmarks for you   based on the products you have installed.  Users can of course   add/edit/delete any bookmarks that they choose and can organize them via   folders, etc.
    3.
    Search/Browse History
Ability to view previous pages   browsed or search results (including previously used filter options, search   collections, online/offline search status, refinements, and more).
    4.
    Flash Platform ASLR
Ensures developers  only   have to download one copy of the ASR and not separate, multiple copies for   Flash vs. Flex, etc.
    5.
    Revamped local content   download workflow
The entire local content   download workflow has been reworked!  We have removed the pop-up dialog   box and moved the “content update” notification to the footer of the app as   well as the homescreen.  This ensures an uninterrupted workflow for   users who simply want to access content first and foremost.
    6.
    Performance improvements
The team has worked especially   hard on improving the start-up and browsing performance by consolidating a   number of disparate server calls into a single initialization service that is   only performed at launch.  This enables us to cache a number of assets   and reduce network calls/dependencies.
    7.
    Silent application updates
Similar to the changes in the   local content download experience, we have also revamped the update   experience for the application itself!  Going forward, app updates will   be downloaded in the background without interruption to the user workflow.
    8.
    Set-and-forget search options
Search options are now sticky   from session to session – for example, if you check the Search Adobe   Reference check box for  Photoshop, the CHC will remember those options   the next time you open the app. This applies to refinements too.
    9.
    Much more!!
Minimize to sytem tray (for PC   users only); upgrade to Flex 4.1 and AIR 2.5; and many, many other   enhancements, fixes, etc.!
Note: many of these features were part of our earlier 3.4 release – as some of you know, we had to pull down that release shortly after launch due to server/hardware issues. So only a few users were able to update at the time.  CHC 3.5 is now a general release that will support all users and has been extensively tested to ensure robust performance and stability.
To update your app, simply open the Community Help application from your hard disc or visit our download page on adobe.com:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/chc
Please leave your comments/feedback here in this forum -- and feel free to spread the word!

  • Scroll wheel not working in Community Help App (Windows 7 64bit)

I am using the Community Help App on both a Windows 7 32 bit machine and a Windows 7 64 bit machine.
On the 32 bit machine, the mousewheel scrolls the content pane just fine.
On my 64 bit machine, the mousewheel will not scroll the content pane. I have to use the scroll bar on the right (click and hold to scroll the content).
This appears to the be case for all Adobe Air apps, as this functionality is identical in Adobe Story.
I am using a Microsoft Wireless Mobile 4000 mouse on the Windows 7 machine.
Is anyone else having this problem on 64 bit Windows 7 machines?

I'm frustrated, too, because of the scroll wheel issue with any AIR applications.
Running Windows 7 Home Premium N 32 bit.
Using Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 (wired, not wireless) - current drivers.
Scroll wheel will not work when rolled normally, no matter what sensitivity I set the wheel to.  To get any scrolling action, I have to roll the wheel as fast as I can.  Then, it will scroll, but in horrible chunky bits, which ends up being wildly inaccurate and extremely frustrating.
I've heard of many other people having this issue.  It's only when the program I'm using is an AIR application, which leads me to believe that Adobe did something to make AIR incompatible with a MS mouse & Win 7 OS.  (I have used the same mouse running Vista and scrolled fine in an AIR application.)
Is Adobe going to correct this situation?

  • Error message in trying to use local content in Adobe Community Help of Flash Builder

    Hi,
I have set my Adobe Community Help application preferences of Flash Builder to 'Display local content only'.to Yes.
I also disabled my internet connection to use local help content only.
I get the following error message when trying to access any of the links from Help home page.
To view the requested page, connect to the Internet or deselect "Display Local Help content only" in Preferences.
I understand this is due to all the links point online HTTP urls.
But why cannot the local help content be accessed when it is already downloaded to local and the 'Display local content only' option is set to Yes?
This saves me a lot ot time otherwise using Adobe Community Help is painful even for a short period of time.
    Thanks,
    Ram Manoj Kongara.

    Hi, Ram -
To help troubleshoot your problem, can you please do the following:
In the Adobe Community Help application, go to Edit > Preferences.
    Select Local Content.
The list of Help packages downloaded locally appear. Make sure that the status of every Help packages reads “Current”. If the status of a Help package reads  "Out-of-Date”, select that Help package, and click Update to download the latest Help package. Note that to do this, you have to be connected to the Internet. Once you fully download the Help packages to your desktop, you can access Help offline.
One other thing that I would want you to check is the Adobe Community Help Client version that you are using. To check that, in the Adobe Community Help application, go to File > About Adobe Help. The build version should be 3.2.0.610.
Let me know if this helps. If the issue still persists, we can investigate further.

    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/
Well, yes, it is actually far from impeccable. If you see a

So all of you style hounds who wanted to know how Adobe
refers to things in the product can now go have a look inside the

It would be helpful to us if those of you who blog about DW
could write something about the CS4 help being released, AND
provide a link to the What’s New features, or to any other
help page in the new help system. This will speed the indexing
process for the google search engine crawler, which is the basis of
our new Community Help search mechanism. (Feel free to link to the

links directly on it, it’s not so great for the google
    crawler.)

  • How do I re-find my 'Community Help' preferences?

I had that 'Access denied' error message whenever I tried to access help within Flash CS5 (that's pretty bad). I searched for far too long and found the obscure solution.
During the process I decided it might be safer to access the online help from my browser in the meantime. But with the problem solved I want to switch back to viewing the content through the Flash IDE.
I can't find those preference settings again though, please help!

To do so, return to this Preference page by reopening the Community Help application from your hard disk.
The application will be present in "Programs " -> "Adobe Help" if in Windows.
    Or
    goto your installed location for e.g.  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help\
    and then click "Adobe Help.exe"
The in the application press "Cntrl + K " or got to Edit->Preferences.
    hope this helps.

  • What's adobe air and adobe community help?

I loaded 5.5 tonight and got a popup asking me if I'd like to install the new version of Adobe Air.  I said no thanks.  Then I clicked on the Help in 5.5, and it suggested I'd like to install a new version of Adobe Community Help.  I said okay, and then I got the popup for Adobe Air again.  When I canceled it, the upgrade to Adobe Community Help didn't complete properly.
What's Adobe Air and what's Adobe Community Help?  What's the relationship between them?

AIR is a runtime environment for running certain applications. The Adobe Community Help Client is an AIR application; it's a viewer for the Help documents.
I prefer to not use the Community Help Client application. Instead, I use the HTML version of Help in my browser or the PDF version when I'm not online.
There are direct links to the PDF and online HTML versions of the Help documents here.

  • Adobe Community Help Doesn't Work

For some reason, the help pages don't work, either in Photoshop CS5 Extended (12.0.4) or in Bridge (4.0.5.11).  When I go to Help>Photoshop help (or Bridge help), I get the Adobe Community Help Page, but nothing on the right side of the page works.  I can try to click on any link and nothing happens.  (I am signed in, but that didn't matter.)  I can only eanter a search request on the left and get search responses.
I was prompted earlier in the day to update Adobe Help with a thing called "airappinstaller".  Adobe Community Help "about" page says I have version 3.5.0.23 and that my help is "up to date."  I tried restarting  but it still doesn't work.  What's up?

After installing the Adobe Air update I can reproduce the problem with Photoshop CS5 standard 12.0.4 on Windows 7 x64, Steve.
The cursor changes to a finger when I hover over the links in the right pane, but nothing in particular happens when they're left-clicked.
I can right-click a link and choose open in new tab.  That does in fact open the selected page in a new tab.
I can click the link in the upper-right and the page opens in Internet Explorer 9, at which point all the links work, no problem.
I can see the Air installation was successful in the Windows Application log, but no error or other message is logged when I attempt unsuccessfully to use it.
I'm going to try logging off and on again.  Edit:  Nope, that didn't help anything.
No modifier keys get a left-click to do anything.
    The Back button works.
I get a pop-up menu when I click on Welcome, Noel Carboni, but clicking on any of the entries does nothing.
I can click in the Black Search field at the upper right, and it puts a cursor there.  I can type and when I hit enter the search causes the page to change.
When I hit the Home button all the little Ps etc. icons appear, and if I click on one it takes me to the page.
It seems like only the left-click function for navigating on text links is broken.
Anything else you'd like me to check?
    -Noel

  • Lightroom 3 upgrade to LR4 not registered in Community Help

I recently upgraded my copy of Adobe Lightroom from v3.6 to v4.2.  After verifying the new install was working properly and converting the catalog I uninstalled v3.6.  When I go to help in the Lightroom menu the Community Help application starts in its own window and displays help for version 4 in its right hand conent window as it should. However the left hand search pane displays "Search Bridge Content" - not "Search Lightroom Content" - in its search term entry box.  The content choice pull-down menu next to the search term entry list Adobe Bridge CS5, Photoshop CS5, and Lightroom 3 (no longer installed), but NOT Lightroom 4 (currently installed).  Similarly the Community Help home page lists Photoshop CS5, Bridge CS5, and Lightroom 3, but not Lightroom 4.  How do I remove the old reference to Lightroom 3 references from both the "search help content" selection menu and the Community Help home page and replace it with Lightroom 4 as currently installed?
In a second issue, attempting to sign-in to my Adobe ID account through the Community Help Account menu fails even though the ID and password supplied are correct.  After entereing my password and pressing "Sign In" the  dialog box gets stuck on the screen with nothing happening, requiring me to close help and restart it to move on.

Further complications .... after posting my first message I did some more searching which lead me to the Help Manager download page at http://www.adobe.com/support/chc/.  Following the instructions I selcted the pull down for the product, exanded the list with the "more products" link, chose Lighteroom, and clicked the install button.  Cliucking "Lightroom Help..." in Lightroom's Help menu now brings up Lightroom 4 instead of 3 BUT it is displayed in my browser, not the help viewer application where help was previously displayed.  Further, my help menus for installed applcations Photoshop CS5.5 and Bridge CS5 are a) displaying online help instead of local help; and b) displaying help for CS6 instead of the installed CS5 versions as it should.  There are no CS6 applications installed on the system.
The link in your reply does not download the configuraqtion file.  Instead it opens the XML source code for the file in my browser.  I have copied the complete XML code into a new text file, named it Lightroom_4.0.helpcfg, and saved it into the directory you specified but there is no apparent affect.
BTW, OS is Windows 7 32-bit.  The application that opens when selecting "Adobe Help" from the Windows Start button application menu now identifies itself as "Adobe Help Manager 4.0.0.244"  I believe previously it was the Help Viewer version 3.5.4 if memory serves.  The Accessability Mode option settings that were previously avaiable in the application's General Settings page the allow one to choose between opening help in the Community Help application or in the browser are no longer there.

  • Community Help program  ignores new PSE 12 installation

after uninstalling PSE 10 I installed PSE 12 & Premiere Elements 12 on my notebook (WIN 8.1)
for offline use the Adobe Community Help offers only the contents for PSE 10 and Premiere Elements 10 (was never installed!!)
as dowloadable files, the new insttalled 12 versions seem to be ignored.
Is it poosible to update the community help software or should I  try to un- and reinstall it?
    Frank

(sorry if my question was unclear, english is not my native language)
my problem is NOT downloading or opening any pdfs,
Then using the help function in pse without permanent  internet connection, it is possible to choose usage of  "only local contents" in the pre-settings for help. When the computer is online, the selected contents will be downloaded and updated automaticly by the community help tool.
It works, but the problem is that the adobe community help tool  only offers the WRONG contents (old pse version).  So I think about reinstalling the help-tool

  • Adobe Community Help Search - Unexpected Error?

    Adobe Photoshop Elements version 9.0.3, Win7 64bit
When I launch Photoshop Elements Help and arrive at Adobe Community Help and then enter any word in the Search box (upper left), there is no response for  several minutes, then this appears:
(An unexpected error has occurred.  Please try your search again.)
Can anyone suggest the cause, and perhaps a solution?

The cause is that the help files aren't in that location anymore. The workaround would be to download the pdf files, which you can find here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/992825?tstart=0
and use those instead of the in-program links.
