FMW MapViewer 11g Preview 2 kit available

A MapViewer 11g Preview 2 kit is available for download from otn.

Changes since the Preview 1 kit include:
- Requires oc4j 11g (there's also a mapviewer_for_oc4j1013.ear in the kit)
- OGC WMS 1.3.0 support
- supports maximum log file sizes and log file rotation
- GeoRSS support
- Highlighting/selecting single or multiple FOIs by mouse clicks
- Tile Layer creation wizard in Map Builder

I can give the features I look most forward to:
”Full PDF map output support is provided. If you use PDF_URL or PDF_STREAM as the map format in your XML map request, MapViewer will generate vector PDF maps.”
”In the context of a base map, you can now assign scale limits to its themes' labels. These scale limits control when a theme's features will display their label texts.”
”The TEXT style has been improved to support customizable spacing between letters. It also supports additional (vertical) alignment options when labeling linear features.”
Plus full-map rotation - I must be blind, but I can't find it mentioned in http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/mapviewer/pdf/whats_new_11gpre2.pdf. Do I look in the wrong place?
We might also be able to take good use of the Secure Map Rendering, but I need to investigate this further.

MapViewer 11g R1 (preview 1)

I've developed an Oracle maps application using 10.1.3 MapViewer Quick Start which includes functionality to plot FOI using the function createMarkerFOI(). The application uses it to plot several FOIs in a loop at the user request. This was working as expected on my development setup but when I distributed to a customer site that was using a different version of MapViewer (11g R1) it fails to display the icons on the map. It does appear to be doing something because if I try to re-create the FOIs it complain that they already exist.
I have two questions:
1) Do you know why it would work in one version and not the other?
2) Is this version of MapViewer available for download (I can't seem to find it on the Oracle site)?

I was mistaken about why the function call was failing, it was not converting the point using the correct SRID value so I have that part resolved.
I'm still interested to know if there is actually a version 11g available.

Mapviewer 11g availability?

I would very much like to benefit from some of the new features in Mapviewer 11g in the project I'm currently working on.
However if Mapviewer 11g is not available within a fairly short timeframe, I will have to plan and develop according to that of course.
But it would help me in my planning if I had an idea on the timeframe for Mapviewer 11g release.
Can anyone help on that?

I believe the patch number you are looking for is 6453515. For some obscure reason, you can't find this patch through MetaLink's normal patch search - at least you have to be very creative with your search options.
I previously had a long-running SR on MetaLink to make them fix this, but so far nothing have happened. You can't find MapViewer as a product in the "Available products" list - to find this patch, you have to specify these options in the seach box, I found out:
- Product name: "Oracle Spatial" - create an "Oracle MapViewer" product please.... IMO they're closely related products, but not the SAME product....
- Product version: choose all 10.x and 11.x versions - of the database - another oddity...
- Platform og Language: For some reason, it seems like this MUST be "Linux x86", even if this is not your server platform, yet another oddity...
- Patch type: Any
- Priority: Any
Could someone from Oracle please do something to make patches for MapViewer easier to find on MetaLink? It makes me a bit happier to hear, that I'm not the only one having trouble locating these patches.

MapViewer is a feature of the Oracle Application Server. So it'll be available when the App Server 11g is available.

It's not a 'process' at all.
If it was easy/straightforward, people would be turning store versions into iBA versions left/right and all **** would break loose. It's not and that's a good thing, sorry
Work up from whatever version you have.
Any work you value should be backed up....period. That backup should be used and tested regularly. Consider this a lesson learned, perhaps. Good luck in the future.

I set the user environment varilable; like this.
JAVA_HOME = C:\Java\jdk1.5.0_09 and i added bin directory with path directory.
path=%JAVA_HOME%\bin;
The reason i mention about java home. The jdeveloper log shows the message

what i wonder how it refer "C:\Java\jdk1.5.0_09\bin" ? jdeveloper has it's own java compiler.

Live View Preview is only available with...

When I select preview 'server' from the Browser Lab panel in Dreamweaver I get this message:
"Live View Preview is only available with BrowserLab Local/Network preview option, please select the Local/Network preview option."

Yes this behavior is 100% correct, and what you observed about it only working if you toggle Live View off is what the error message was trying to tell you.
I'll try to explain - in Dreamweaver's Live View mode you can interact with your page "freeze" the javascript in intermediate states. The information about those states is only contained on the local machine. So if you were to perform a server preview from DW while in Live View, the page would only be in the base/default state in the screenshot captured by BrowserLab. So the only way BrowserLab can get the properly get the info about the intermediate state you've navigated to is if you choose the Local/Network preview option.
I suppose we could have implemented things so that it would not show you that message if you haven't done any interactions with your page in Live View, but I think that would actually be more confusing, as it would sometimes work and sometimes not work. And even if we could automatically switch over to Local/Network mode for BrowserLab while you're in DW's Live View mode, we probably wouldn't because we want that to be a choice made explicitly by our users.

I'm in the process of downloading ISO images now, and will be setting up VMware virtual machines in which to test the various versions. I will be interested to see how Photoshop works with it (it mostly worked with the Windows 8 Developer Preview version, with just a few glitches).

Generally speaking, Microsoft seems to be trying to bridge the "touch screen tablet" market with the "desktop computer" market, all in the name of opening up their own shiny new App Store. I don't know whether they're going to pull it off, but Apple has become a world economic power with theirs. It's almost scary to think what Microsoft will be able to do with theirs. Sounds like opportunity knocking for Windows developers.
The Windows 8 Metro Start screen, complete with its flat, styleless tiles, has replaced the Start Menu in Windows 8, and there's no Start button at all. I give it a month at most before someone like Ivo Beltchev, who created the Windows 7 add-on "ClassicShell" package, creates software to restore a workalike to the Windows 7 menu. I've tried the current version of ClassicShell already with the Windows 8 developer preview and it doesn't seem to run, though I haven't gone to the ClassicShell forums to see whether there's a workaround.
But using the Win key to pop over to the Metro Start screen, which is the start menu replacement, all the functionality is still there, and there are some advantages. For example, a number of known bugs in Windows Explorer have been fixed, and they've integrated ribbons into Explorer in a way that actually makes some sense. So far everything I've tried to run has worked - I get the impression either compatibility was very high on their list, or they haven't done much to the "traditional" APIs.
Oh, and they've integrated their own anti-malware solution, so there will be no more need for 3rd party packages.
Interestingly to me, after half a day of testing and getting used to it (and having run the Windows 8 Developer Preview before that for months), the whole Windows 8 system so far feels lighter and more efficient that Windows 7. There are fewer processes running, they seem to take up less memory, and just a lot of things seem more polished.
I'm guessing there's just enough "gee whiz" here to make even people who are relatively happy with Windows 7 want to upgrade.

Sneak Preview Full Edition Availability & System Requirements

Can anyone tell us authoratatively when the Full Edition (Java + ABAP) of the NW04 Sneak Preview will be available? And equally importantly, for planning purposes, what the minimum and recommended system requirements will be?

In the download area you can get the Full Netweaver (ABAP + Java) for Linux. This has been available for a little while.
Now, what you are asking is the same I've been waiting for: the Full version for Windows.
I had expectations that it would be far down the road, but since the version ABAP was released today, I feel like we may get it soon.
I suggest you keep watching the forums and visiting SDN regularly (like me). An estimate release date will come out sometime soon.

installed the jdeveloper 11g preview 2 and I tested it with the tree example.
The problem that the application don't list the child collection when i click the parent node. It simply display the root element(my views , links, biding are ok)
