Focus Area Select crashed PS 2014??

As usual, I have to play with all the new goodies the moment they are released and discovered that Focus Area Selection is causing PS to crash.. anyone else having this issue? I am running Win 7...

Sorry for the slow reply, I rarely check this thing, I am sure you have probably resolved your issue by now but just in case... regarding leaving the "UGP" unchecked will most likely not effect the day to day operations of Ps, some rarely use functions, either stop working or operate inefficiently but most of the time users never notice the difference.. regarding your Graphics Driver, the best way to check is to find the model# of your card and the driver version#  then visit the card manufactures website and check directly with them. Computer Manufactures rarely keep track of all driver updates, unless it specifically components they build. Good Luck !!

  • I'm using Mac with OS 10.9.4 and Photoshop CC. I am unable to access "Focus Area Selection". When I go to "Select" on menu its simply not there in the drop down menu. Any help?

How do I access "Focus Area Selection" in Photoshop CC on a Mac? It's not showing in the "Select" drop-down menu.

Select > Focus area is in Photoshop CC 2014, not Photoshop CC.  So you must download and install CC 2014 to have access to this new feature.

  • Focus Area Select Not Working

Hi. Updated my work PC to Photoshop CC 2014. Select/Focus Area is shown in drop down menu. I can open the Focus Area panel, but it does nothing to the image regardless of what setting I select in the sliders.
When I place the cursor over the image with this panel open, I get a circle with a slash through it, seemingly to indicate that this function is not available on this image. Image opened is DNG format from Lightroom CC.
I updated my graphics driver and checked that PS is using the GPU in the Preferences panel. The 'Use Graphics processor' is ticked.
System is a PC running Windows 7 professional. Core i5-2310 CPU 4cores. 4GB RAM (total).
I know the RAM size is small and I will be getting another 8GB or so soon. Can this be the cause of the problem?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Steve

You're welcome, and I agree, it should at least warn you if it comes up short of RAM.
In researching a bit for my answer above, I set out to try the filter on a number of images, some of which should have been "no brainers" for the filter to process, and I have to say, for me it did what it did for you on a couple of occasions.  It seems to have trouble with the transition between sharp areas and their edges that border on quite smooth backgrounds.
I hope Adobe continues to refine the operation of this filter.

  • Photoshop cc 2014 missing 'focus area' item in the 'Select' menu

I've installed the new photoshop cc 2014 (14.2.1 x 64)  but I can't find the new 'focus area' command in the 'Select' menu.

    Hi,
Thank you for getting back to me. You’re absolutely correct. My Adobe Cloud app. was out of date. Once I updated Adobe Cloud it it notified me of the new photoshop update.
Photoshop CC 2014 has just downloaded and I’m about to try it.
    Thanks again,
    Howard

  • I have just downloaded Photoshop CC 2014. However, I don't see these 2 new features: Content Aware Color Adaptation and Select Focus Area

I have just updated to PS CC 2014. However, I don't see these 2 new features: Content Aware > Color Adaptation; and Select> Focus Area
There're not there, not listed. What am I missing? Thanks.

You will likely get better program help in a program forum Photoshop General Discussion
The Cloud forum is not about using individual programs
The Cloud forum is about the Cloud as a delivery & install process
If you will start at the Forums Index https://forums.adobe.com/welcome
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use
Click the "down arrow" symbol on the right (where it says All communities) to open the drop down list and scroll

  • I upgraded to PsCC 2014, but Select Focus Area is not available. Why?

I upgraded to 2014, but none of the new features seem available from my menus. In particular, I wanted to use the Focus Area feature, but it is not available from the Select Menu. Is this a common problem?

Sorry. It didn't occur to me that Adobe would install a complete new version on my hard drive. I found it. It works so far. Sorry for the waste of time.

  • New features, e.g., blur path and select focus, are not showing up in my PS drop down menus

Although I've downloaded the CC PS 2014 updates the new features, e.g., blur path and select focus, are not showing up in my PS drop down menus - anybody know why and what I need to do?
    <moved from downloading,installing,setting up - kglad>

Are you sure you understand the Cloud License concept?
You are entitled to keep Photoshop CC and install Photoshop CC 2014, so CC 2014 is not connected with additional costs and the time it takes to install the new version of Photoshop should not be that much of a imposition, should it?

  • Select Photo focus area

I belong to Lynda.com and while watching a LR presentation, the instructor was teaching about finding the in-focus areas.  He said in PS, you could go to Select-focus area from the menu bar.  I do not see anything that says focus area.  Can anyone help me out here?

You need to launch Creative Cloud.
In CC desktop click on the Apps tab and you should see any updates for Photoshop CC 2014.

  • Tilt Shift - Issue in selecting focus area

I am newbie to PS and trying to create tilt shift effects. I had done this few times but strangely I could not do it anylonger as I face issue in selecting focus and blur areas. I do the following - Go to Quick Mask(Press 'Q') --> Select Gradient (Press 'G') --> Then I draw a vertical line to define the focus area. Usually a relatively darker red color used to appear as a band. But suddenly I see a very vague red color. And when I exit Quick Mask (Press 'Q') again the marching ants selects the entire picture and not the focus and blur areas. I do not know what mistake (without knowing did I press any keys) I made but I see this happen couple of times and was lucky it got resolved automatically. But alas, I am now not sure how to reset it. Any help would be appreciable. I use CS5.1.

You might check the gradient tool settings, i.e you might have blend mode other than Normal or low opacity.
You also might just reset the gradient tool by right clicking on the Gradient icon in the tool options bar and clicking Reset Tool and see if that works.

  • Why won't Focus Area Show up under selection from the new update of PS CC '14?

So I am looking for the Focus Area in PS CC '14's new update, but I can't find it. I search it up on help but it does not find it.
I've updated it all today. Is there a setting I need to have so that it will show up?
    Please help.
    -Jocelyn.Z

I got it.  I still don't understand why so if someone can explain it I'd love to know.  But when I removed <div id=ads> and it's close div, putting the content of that div in with the webcam div, it all worked.  I don't have it that way on the page that uses the same size images and layout, but in a slideshow format, but for some reason it's what it took to make it work here.
I'd love to know if anyone knows why.  But in case anyone else is struggling with something similar, maybe this will help.

  • I can not find the Focus Area Tool.

I opened a photograph from CR as a Smart Object. Now in PS CC (with latest updates) I go to the Select menu. I see Color Range but no Focus Area, it is not even grayed out. What am I doing wrong?

Well, that's a more complicated question than it sounds :-)
Confused as to why you have CC and CC 2014 versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, etc? Here's why - News - Digital Arts
Photoshop CC 2014 is actually a completely new version of Photoshop which is available via your Cloud membership at no extra cost. It supersedes Photoshop CC.
When installed, you'll see this in your Cloud desktop app
The Focus Area tool is a new feature found only in CC 2014.

  • Not able to use "Focus Area" in Photoshop!

I am using Ps Version 14.2.1x64 on a Windows 7 based PC in the Photography mode.  When I click on Select, I do not have the feature "Focus Area" as a dialog box option to use. Why not?!?!?

Because Focus Area was first introduced in CC 2014 (version 15).
You're still running the old CC.
Go to the Cloud desktop app and download Photoshop CC 2014.
If you've already done that, create a new icon on your desktop pointing to CC 2014. I'm guessing that you're still using the existing Ps icon on your desktop which is pointing to CC.
