what do i do wrong?
i do it with 3 picture, 5, 6 7 etc..

what do i do wrong?
Nothing, the Auto-Blend Layers feature has been damaged.
You could install Photoshop CC and work with that or wait for a possible fix in some future update.

  • Focus Stacking in CC 2014 No Longer Works (Rant)

    I just spent HOURS on 2 different computers trying to do Focus Stacking for 2 jobs I'm working on which I couldn't get to work. I just used it a couple of weeks ago without a problem. (And yes I do use the correct procedure :Files>Scripts>Load Files Into Stacks>Attempt to Auto Align>Select All Layers(in Layers Panel)>Edit>Auto Blend Layers>Stack Images) Of course I thought it was something I was doing wrong, so I spent all this time trying to troubleshoot on my end. Finally I tried the Help Chat and spent another bunch of time reproducing the problem and making screen captures to show the CSR only to find out that it is a known issue at Adobe and it might be fixed in the next update. BTW, it was very obvious that the CSR was helping a list of customers at one time since it took so long in between responses. How aggravating.
    Here's the rant I left on one of their questionnaires:
    So you ask "How can we improve the Creative Cloud?" My answer is,  INFORM YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS WHEN THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH YOUR PRODUCT SO THEY DON'T WASTE THEIR TIME TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEIR SYSTEM. JUST LIKE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, WITH THE ISSUE OF HAVING TO CONSTANTLY SIGN IN WHENEVER YOU LAUNCH ANY OF THE CREATIVE CLOUD APPS.
    Is it really so difficult to do this now that we are joined at the hip with this monthly fee Creative Cloud? I'm sure that you'll let us know immediately if we don't make our monthly payment right?

    Alerting customers to known issues like this is a reasonable request. Especially with a major functionality breakdown like this. It's a different matter with esoteric issues affecting only a few users.
    I'm sure that's a particularly troublesome distinction for Adobe in this particular case, for precisely the reason you mentioned.  Though it's a basic failure, I'd wager only a small minority of people use the various image combination features that rely on the functionality that's broken.
    As a career software engineer / architect / manager who worked a long time in the corporate world myself, I've faced situations where a release was imminent yet some piece of functionality was found to be broken.  There comes a judgment process to determine whether a majority of folks will get value from the new version while a minority might find it problematic.  The two things I came away with from all that experience were:
    Document everything.  Let the customers know.  They need to be informed to make good decisions themselves, and it really helps no one to try to keep things secret.  No one's perfect, and surprisingly, customers are willing to be quite understanding IF you keep them in the loop.  It's not even a bad idea to publish the entire bug list.
    I decided that once I were to run my own business (which I do now) I would fix all known problems before release.  If that means a delay, so be it.  That's been especially effective for a number of reasons...  I don't get many problem reports (so I can move forward with new work), I don't have a shaky platform (so I can move forward with new work), etc.  Since I set the release schedule and since my development team is small I can pull it off.
    I mention the latter note because now, with Adobe's new cloud delivery processes, shouldn't the pressure to release on a particular date have been reduced?
    Is there still a "release date is king, and all else a distant second priority" philosophy at Adobe?  Of course a corporation should always challenge itself to get things done, but why did 15.1 (excuse me, 2014.1) have to be released right when it did rather than wait a few more weeks and fix at least the newly found problems?
    I honestly thought the Creative Cloud shift would help fix the shortcoming at Adobe where they release what's on hand no matter whether it all works.
    To Adobe's credit, the Creative Cloud application now does allow you to roll back to a working version if the newest one broke something you rely upon.  That's new, and I think an under-documented and under-appreciated feature.

    Noel, I couldn't agree more with your comments.  I'm mad not because there is a problem but the lengths one needs to go to find out about it once you discover that something isn't working in the release the way one expected it to.  A "bug" sticky for each release at the top of a forum such as this is would BE A GOOD WAY OF HELPING USERS, a basic business ethic that Adobe seems to have forgotten about, the customer IS KING.  I'd agree that the CC was expected by users to sort out the problems of release timings but to their credit if you didn't see a release for 6 months due to increasing software bugs you might question the need to have a CC in the first place versus the old way of releasing updates.  Is this essentially a problem of software becoming tooo complex with fixes in one are just creating problems somewhere else? - I'm not a software engineer just a knowledgeable user.  If I was paying $50 a month for using a couple of CC programmes with disparate uses then I would be seriously thinking why but that question comes at the end of the year for me.
    I would also agree that the rollback feature is very useful...

  • PS CC: Ebenen automatisch überblenden / Focus stacking funktioniert nicht

    "GELÖST":
    Ist ein Bug der aktuellen PS-Version. Habe dann nach drei Tagen doch mal einen passenden Link gefunden ;-) Focus stacking is broken in CC 20140730.r.148 x64
    Ursprünglicher Post:
    Hallo,
    ich versuche nun schon mit verschiedenen Aufnahmen und div. Lösungswegen mit PhotoShop CC mehrere Ebenen automatisch überblenden zu lassen. Das Problem: Es wird im Endeffekt gar nichts übergeblendet - die Ebenenmaske der untersten Ebene wird folglich weiß, alle anderen komplett schwarz.
    Habe beim PS-Start mit Strg+Shift+Alt bereits die persönlichen Einstellungen zurückgesetzt. Da das nichts brachte, habe ich PS komplett neu aufgespielt - leider auch ohne Veränderung.
    Eigene Bilder habe ich sowohl mit Makroschlitten und festem Fokus als auch mit fester Kameraposition und manueller Fokusveränderung erstellt. Große Blende, kleine Blende. Mit Retro-Adapter oder nur dem Kit-Objektiv. Ebenso habe ich mir ein paar Sample-Bilder für Fokus Stacking heruntergeladen und es mit denen getestet. Das Ausrichten der Bilder funktioniert immer einwandfrei. Aber nach dem vergeblichen Überblenden wird wieder nur eine Ebene sichtbar angezeigt, der Rest eben dank schwarzer Ebenenmaske quasi ausgeblendet.
    Neben der vermeintlich "falschen" Methode (Datei-> Automatisieren-> Photomerge), habe ich zuletzt es immer über folgenden Weg probiert:
    Datei-> Scripten-> Dateien in Stapel laden: Bilder auswählen, kein Haken bei "autom. ausrichten" bzw. "Smartobjekt erstellen",
    Alle Ebenen markieren,
    Bearbeiten-> Ebenen automatisch ausrichten: Automatische Projektion, kein Haken bei Vignettierungsentfernung und Geom. Verzerrung,
    Bearbeiten-> Ebenen automatisch überblenden:  Bilder stapeln, Haken bei "nahtlose Töne und Farben" gesetzt.
    Das Laden der Bilder via Bridge (Werkzeuge->Photoshop->Dateien in Photoshop-Ebenen laden) habe ich auch versucht.
    Auch beim automatischen Ausrichten anstelle von "automatische Projektion" gezielt nur "Repositionieren" zu verwenden half nicht.
    Merkwürdig ist auch, dass PS binnen dem Bruchteil einer Sekunde damit fertig ist alle Ebenen überzublenden. Dabei spielt es keine Rolle, ob ich dafür nun nur 2 Ebenen geladen habe oder 22. Irgendwie scheint PS gar nicht erkennen zu wollen / können, dass bei den Bildern unterschiedliche Fokuspunkte gesetzt wurden.
    Gibt es denn noch irgendwo einen Punkt, den ich komplett übersehen habe? Oder ist es buggy und ich bin der einzige, dem es aufgefallen ist ;-)
    Möchte ich übrigens ein Panorama aus 5 (natürlich anderen..) Aufnahmen erstellen funktioniert alles einwandfrei.
    Hatte jemand schonmal das Problem oder weiß spontan einen Tipp? :-)
    Grüße,
    Daniel.
    /edit nach 24h:
    Habe gerade mit allen Bildreihen den Versuch mit der Demo-Version von Helicon Focus gestartet - hier funktioniert es leider einwandfrei. Manche Ergebnisse sind besser, manche schlechter. Aber letztlich schafft er es überall den jeweils scharfen Bereich herauszufiltern.
    Also doch "nur" eine Einstellungssache bei PS?

  • Since installing the latest update of Photoshop CC two days ago, Auto Blend for focus stacking is selecting all pixels from the bottom layer instead of selecting the ones in best focus from each layer. Has anyone else seen this problem?

    I installed the latest update of Photoshop CC two days ago on my Macbook Pro, and now when I try to do focus stacking by opening multiple photos and doing Auto Align and Auto Blend, the blend selects the entire bottom layer instead of selecting the in-focus areas from each layer. I even tried again on a series of images where this worked a week ago and the problem occurs. I have Photoshop on a Windows 8 machine and did not apply this latest update and it works fine. Has anyone else encountered this?

    And since installing this same update, my Photoshop is crashing just after starting.
    Ashutosh.Nigam suggested me in this forum to change the permissions to SLStore & SLCache Folder, but it did not work.
    Ali from french Adobe support told me to delete my Settings files, but it was not enough.
    A girl with no name from the same team told me to update my video card driver, but you know I run the latest Mac OS X version and everything is updated, mademoiselle.
    Stephane sent me a link to a huge page of things to do :
    -  Troubleshoot account-specific fonts, but there wasn't any corrupted font
    - Delete account-specific Adobe cache files but... guess what...
    - Troubleshoot account-specific login items but... yes, that's it, I can see you understand me
    - Reset the access settings on the user account's Library folder... oh god, that was fun, I used the Terminal and sudo commands
    I did all of these things because when I tried to open PhCC in an other admin session, it worked, so that was an incompatibility between my session and PhCC. But, but, but, when I tried again to lauch the app in the second session, it worked fine but refused to quit. Ha ha ha.
    So you can try to delete your Settings files. I wish it'll work for you. If not you can try the long list above... or hope a better answer from the support.
    I didn't change anything but Photoshop on my session and they ensure that the bug is due to my session and not to their update. Strange affair.
    Good luck,
    JLuc

  • How can I fix an image created by Focus Stacking in PS6

    The below image was created using 8 photos using the Focus Stacking process in PS6 (I have carried it our correctly) but it doesn't like up properly when blended together. I have tried it about 8 times and get the same result every time.
    Is there anyway I can fix this photograph so that it is all in alignment?
    See around the 3 and 9 positions it is out of alignment.
    Expert help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
    This has been frustrating the crap out of me for the last week (not that the photo is important, it is just that I like to conquer and solve this types of issues)
    I was shooting with an aperture of 7.1.
    I changed the exposure on the photos as you had done previously but this only blew out the watch and I couldn't recover it afterwards and the alignment was no better any way.  So then I started experimenting as you suggested, and I don't know if what I am about to write is acceptable in an Adobe forum, but here goes.
    I tried Helicon Focus and it was terrible, but I must admit I didn't know how to really use it, it doesn't seem to have any alignment function and is very difficult to try to use and understand.
    then I tried Hugin and I am not even sure if this is image stacking software or just an alignment software, anyway that didn't work either and kept saying the output was a very bad match.
    THEN I downloaded and tried zerestacker (free 30 day trial)  (after reading about it in a google search) and WOW, it worked amazing, see below photo, it was so easy to use and the interface is easy as well and it does the alignment and stacking in the same process and you can see the image output show up on the left of the screen.  Sorry PS but I will be using ZS for photostacking from now on. Adobe need to buy this company and incorporate it in to PS CC6.
    This is just so much better than anything I got out of PS, there is no ghosting or blurring and the alignment is perfect and it is so simple to use.

  • Scripting a layer style for each layer to make a depth pass from focus stacking information.

    I'm trying to generate a depth pass from rack focus. Basically where I've gotten to right now is importing the rack focus footage each frame from as an individual layer. Then running Auto Blend Layers and letting photoshop do it's magic to mask out each layer's out of focus information. This basically gives me a bunch of layers that tell me exactly where the camera's focus was at each frame in the shot. What I need to do now is Add a color overlay (maybe in the form of a layer style) that starts at 100% black and goes to 100% white stepping through each layer.
    Right now I have this, which is so very far away.
    try {
        var docName = app.activeDocument.name;  // save the app.activeDocument name before duplicate.
        var layerCount = app.documents[docName].layers.length; //figure out how many layers
        var colorStep = 255/layerCount; //figure out how big the step of grey is between each layer.
            for (i = 1; i <= layerCount; i++){
                my_layer = [docName].layer(i);
                my_layer.applyStyle (solidFill) //add the color overly layer style
                //color the overlay using the colorStep information and layer number
    What I want is an end result that looks like this.

    The only focus stacking I have done is with macro photography. Below is a script that adds the layer effects but the results with my macro samples did not turn out looking good. Maybe you will have better luck with the type of photography you are doing.
    function ftn1(r,g,b) {
        var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
            var ref = new ActionReference();
            ref.putProperty( charIDToTypeID('Prpr'), charIDToTypeID('Lefx') );

                    var rgbcDesc = new ActionDescriptor();
                    rgbcDesc.putDouble( charIDToTypeID('Rd  '), r );
                    rgbcDesc.putDouble( charIDToTypeID('Grn '), g );
                    rgbcDesc.putDouble( charIDToTypeID('Bl  '), b );
                colorfillDesc.putObject( charIDToTypeID('Clr '), charIDToTypeID('RGBC'), rgbcDesc );
            effectsDesc.putObject( charIDToTypeID('SoFi'), charIDToTypeID('SoFi'), colorfillDesc );
        desc.putObject( charIDToTypeID('T   '), charIDToTypeID('Lefx'), effectsDesc );
        executeAction( charIDToTypeID('setd'), desc, DialogModes.NO );
    try {
        // var docName = app.activeDocument.name;  // save the app.activeDocument name before duplicate.
        // var layerCount = app.documents[docName].layers.length; //figure out how many layers
        var docRef = app.activeDocument;

  • Preview pictures resolution breaks down while using PSE 13 photomerge for focus stacking

    Hello,
    I'm new to this forum as well to Photoshop elements but I hope, someone can help me with the problem I encountered ;-)
    For the technical background I've got PSE 13 installed on a Win 8.1 Laptop (Core I5, 8 GB RAM). Camera is a Canon EOS 60D with 18 MP.
    I like to do macro photography and I wanted to use PSE13 for focus stacking to get a picture with higher dept of field.
    Therefore, I used eight diffrently focused macro photos from a daisy blossom in raw format after processing them with the camera raw plugin.
    I loaded them in photomerge ( ias "raw" but later I also tried as "jpg"s) and wanted to mark the region of the first photo to combine with the background picture.
    When I zoomed in to about 150% the resolution of the image seems to have broken down and all I saw was the details in such a low resolution that I couldn't distinct between focused and not correct focused regiones. When I zoom in to the same magnification but at another point of the processings in PSE13 I do not experience this effect.
    With that I cannot use PSE13 for focus stacking at all... That can't be it...
    Has someone an idea whether I made a mistake or forgot to fix some settings issues or something?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Using focus stacker software and PSE10

    I am contemplating Zerene Stacker for macro photography focus stacking and wonder whether it presents any difficulties with Organiser.
    My understanding is that the work flow process would first use PSE Editor to produce JPG or TIFF files, then use ZE for stacking to achieve a broad DOF effect and out putting in TIFF format.
    I assume I could then import this output to organiser using the File> Get photos and videos> from folders, command.
    Appreciate any comments and advice welcome.
    Regards,

    Update to this discussion.
    I have tried the software and proposed work flow and imported the result to PSE using Organiser. No problems. Since ZS requires tiff files for input I did use PSE Editor for conversion from RAW (but also note it might be easier to use the Canon DPP package to batch process them). I have a Canon 60D camera.
    ZS does produce some interim output files, which you would not want in PSE anyway I expect. Importing the end result is as easy as...
    Some files are quite large as you would expect given the number of images that might be stacked.
    I have then used PSE to convert the final output file to psd format for minor adjustments and then create a jpg version for sharing.
    So interacting with PSE appears to be quite OK.

  • Focus Stacking Failure Using LR and PS 6

    I have been trying to do focus stacking using Lightroom and PS and have followed multiply videos step by freaking step and the same thing keeps happening to me...so here it goes
    - I import all three pictures from LR to PS as layers. (photo, edit in, open as layers in PS)
    - Once in PS, I select all layers and edit, auto align layers.
    - This I believe is working going by what I see on my PS.
    - This next step is where it goes haywire
    - I select edit, auto blend, stack images. And yes, I keep all layers selected from the previous step.
    - BUT instead of giving me masks for each layer masking out the out of focus spots I get a complete white mask on the bottom layer, and two complete black masks on the other two! What the heck? I use three images taken from a tripod that have definite different focus points and I can see the difference in each photo when looked at individually. Any help on this will be much appreciated!

  • Focus stacking doesnt work correctly

    Hi there,
    I tried to "focus-stack" multiple photos.
    Everything is working fine, except when I blend the pictures together, only the bottom most layer will be shown. Photoshop won't select the parts of the layers which are sharp.
    In this video I posted you will see what I am doing, it is in Dutch, but it's the same as the English version.
    Can anyone help me out?
    I use Lightroom and Photoshop CC, newest updates.
    I import from my canon, and then convert the files to .DNG within Lightroom Import.
    Thx

    Thanks a lot guys! I really appreciate your help.
    It's finally working (And now I see making good pictures for focus-stacking isn't that easy).
    So this is what I did.
    I first took R_Kelly his advice. I checked the version, and it seemed that this evening a new update has come out.
    So I updated, tried the stacking again, And it was working.
    Strange thing is, that in my opinion the update can't be the thing. It should have worked in older version right?
    So I was thinking, when you update, photoshop will be resetted right? At least, the reset that Benjamin meant.
    The final conclusion:
    Resetting helped (with help of the update)
    Thx!

  • Problem with focus stacking

    I am attempting focus stacking of micro images of flowers using Auto Align then Auto Blend. It appears as though the Auto Blend has trouble withedges in some cases and places a halo/fringe of up to 20 pixels around the edge. I have tried setting and unsetting seamless tones and colors with different, but dissapointing results.
    The areas in question are at various locations in the image, including the center. I shoot using a tripod and focusing rail to advance the camera/lens into the depth of the subject.
    This crop is from the center of the image.
    Any advice?
    Also, how many layers are optimal?
    Thanks much,
    Michael

    Hi Noel - Helicon created the same artifact... Hmmm. Here are the images I used to create the stack and the results (last image). Perhaps it has something to do with the similarities in tone and color since both PS and Helicon have the same problem. I would love to hear from someone knowledgeable about the algorithm used to execute this function in addition to other suggestions. -- Michael
