Folder! Again - Am I doing something wrong?

My original iPod lasted 16-17 months and went belly up. I got a replacement under Applecare plan right before Thanksgiving. I didn't use it last weekend and yesterday morning discovered the dreaded Folder! icon and it's dead. It worked just fine Friday night. That's less than 2 months! I'm wondering if anything I'm doing is jacking with my iPod. I use it daily at work plugged into to an Apple AC adapter/charger. I use it on the commute about 10 hrs a week plugged into a Blitzsafe interface. In my other car I plug it directly into an amp via the head phone jack. I'm running the 3/23/05 version Updater software to retain Smart Playlist functionality. At home I sync it to a Sony Viao PC on Firewire. I generally do not have disk use enabled. I do not subject it to excessive vibration or physical abuse. It's always in an Evo iSkin case. ***?Anybody else have similar experience with replacement iPods?

My personal views, it could be caused by the following:-
1. Inproper ejection of the iPod with the computer
2. Battery problem included not being charged
3. Corrupted system files with the iPod
4. HD's hand of the iPod get stuck at a certain point
5. Vibration or shocking
Nevertheless, any interest to deal with it? Please read the following:-

Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check each one starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
7. Try to connect on a different computer i.e. a PC formatted iPod connect with a Mac computer or Mac formatted iPod with a Window base PC.
8. Try to do a Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a reformat with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer).
9. Try to run the iPod in “Diagnostic mode” . which can be accessed by pushing the “hold” switch into the “on” position and then “off” (into the original position). Then press the following buttons in the following order: “menu” plus “select” (centre button) then press “reverse” plus “select”. This will take you to the hidden diagnostic mode screen menu. It may take a few trials and pressing the buttons in the right way for this to work, so be patient and keep trying if you have to. The diagnostic mode will give you 7 choices which are: Memory, IO, Power, Status, SysCfg, Diskmode, and Reset. Don’t bother trying “reset” because in my case it didn’t work it just took me back to the same problem. Instead, choose “diskmode”, after which you should get an odd looking “ok to disconnect” sign on the iPod screen.
If one of the above step helps to get your iPod to be recognized with your computer, do a Restore.

    Unfortunately, photo stream on a PC is iffy at best.  Many people have problems getting it to work properly, including myself.  A work around would be to use an app like PhotoSync on your PC, which can send photos wirelessly to the camera roll on any of your iOS devices on the same wifi network.  Once in the camera roll, you iOS device will be added to your photo stream.

    when i contol click on the downloads icon in the dock i get the gris view . I thought if you control click, you are able to change the view to fan or list. am I doing something wrong.? Icheck to make sure the contol key is working by doing a screenshot and it works there. What am I doing wrong?

    iCloud does not provide website hosting. You will need to find another website hosting service - there are many to choose from - and upload your site there. How you do this depends on what version of iWeb you have.
    In order to upload your existing site in iWeb '09 and above:
    Click on the name of the site in the sidebar: the publishing settings pane will open. Set 'Publish to' to 'FTP'. Enter the name of the site and a contact address (if desired).
    In the 'FTP Server Settings' section you will need to know the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. Your site will be published in a folder with its name at root level of the server, with an index.html file at root level (which will overwrite any index.html file which may be there already). The 'Directory/Path' field may need to include a path such as '/webspace/' or 'ht_docs/' - this is dependent on your hosting service and they should tell you this. If you want to publish within a folder you can add that to the path.
    You can then click the 'Test connection' button so that iWeb can check that it can get access to your server space. You should enter the URL of the site in the 'URL' field so that rss feeds and internal links have the correct address.
    To publish using an earlier version of iWeb:
    From the File menu choose 'Publish to a folder'. You should create a folder somewhere convenient specifically for this and choose it when publishing to a folder: this folder should not contain anything else.
    You now need an FTP program (FTP is the 'protocol' used for uploading) to upload the contents of the folder to your server.Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. You can drag the contents of your folder to your webspace, or create a folder there and drag the contents to that if you prefer.
    Some facilities that iWeb provided when hosted on MobileMe will not work on other servers: comments on weblogs and photos, password-protecting your site (some hosts may provide this), searching in the weblog, and a hits counter (again, some hosts can provide code for this). Slideshows in iWeb will work on other hosts than MobileMe (they use different code when FTPing which doesn't depend on scripts hosted on MobileMe as the MobileMe version does); however there is an issue with the 'buttons' which control the slideshow which are images hosted on me.com - these depend on images which used to be hosted on MobileMe.     iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup? 

  • Using the crop tool in Lightroom 5 I can only move and crop my photos from the top. Am I doing something wrong?

    I am new to Lightroom 5 and find I cannot crop my photos as easily as I did in iPhoto. I would like to be able to drag them if I choose a custom size or crop them from the bottom as well as from the top but my two sided arrow disappears when I work at the bottom of the photo. Am I doing something wrong?

    I would suggest you trash the prefs.
    Quit Lightroom
    Launch Finder and find the user Library by clicking the Go menu whilst holding down the Optn (alt) key (n.b. the library is hidden until you press the optn key) and inside the Library folder select the preferences folder. Then trash the following file:
    com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist
    Then re-launch Lightroom
    It’s then worth clearing each cache. Go to the top menu bar:
    Lightroom >> Preferences >> File Handling (tab)
    Click the Purge Cache button under Camera Raw Cache Settings; then click the Purge Cache button under Video Cache Settings. Finally click OK.

    If there is an option to "license this software", and it takes you to a sign-in page with username and password (not a serial number) - then just go ahead and sign in.
    If it insists on a serial number you need to uninstall the trial. Then try to download again.

  • HT1766 My iCloud back up estimates a waiting time of 21 hours, is this accurate or am I doing something wrong?

    I wonder if im doing something wrong. The phone is plugged into the power outlet and occasionally I check to see if it progresses. I am doing it manually thru the icloud section.

  • Bug in shuffle? or am I doing something wrong?

    Hi,
    I have a number of 1-minute clips that each have a 3 second text name on them in track v2. I've decided I want to re-order some of the clips, and I'm having more trouble with it than expected.
    First I tried to attach the name to the audio and video clips using
    Modify->Link, but that does not seem to work for linking two video clips in the timeline together. (I also tried attaching the text to one of the audio tracks, but all that did was unlink the "real" video that went with the audio.)
    I decided it's not that hard to just select both video tracks for each move, I'll just shuffle them together. I can't get shuffle to work properly! It worked (sortof) once. I selected both video and audio tracks, dragged them to the new location, hit "Option", watched the pointer change, and released the mouse. The selection moved, but instead of rippling the change down, it left a gap. It did not overwrite the other item in the track as though I had not hit option.
    I can work around that I'll just be left with a gap as I move segments forward to where the correct sequence is.
    Now comes the problem: I can't even repeat that! It seems no matter what I do, I can't shuffle segments in the timeline, they will overwrite. I've tried moving just the V1 segment, with the intent of moving the text later, no luck; it overwrites! I make sure that the arrow changes when I press the option key, and it does, although sometimes it changes to the right arrow instead of the little bendy one. Either way it overwrites instead of inserting. I've tried cmd-x cmd-v to cut and paste, but again it overwrites.
    Is this a bug I've triggered? or am I doing something wrong? I've read through page 200-201, volume 2 of the manual fairly carefully and I think I'm doing it right.
    I am using FCP 5.0.4.

    PS. Even if it did work correctly, I think I'd prefer to shuffle automatically, and overwrite by pressing the option key. Is there any way to set that in a preference?

    It always works for me. You cannot shuffle multiple clips. Well, if you do, it will leave a gap. Why? dunno.
    I believe if your video and audio are not linked (cmd-L and you can only link audio and video, not multiple video clips) they will be considered multiple clips.
    The "bendy" arrow is the one you want and it varies based on where in the track your pointer is. Lower - insert, upper (I think) leaves a gap. Also, I always press the option key after I've started moving, but before it settles, but I don't think that should affect your operation as long as you push option after you've started moving, but before you let go.
    As to changing the option behavior, I don't think there's a way...

    1: created the following class

    2: Created a webservice out of it exposing the getIt method. I made sure that it is a stateful webservice. I set its scope to be for the session, lasting for 3000 second.
    3: run the webservice
    4: connected to it from VB.NET using the wizard
    5: adding the following code in vb :
    Dim J As New ServiceReference1.MyWebService1Client
    J.Open() ' open the connection with the service
    For I = 1 To 100  ' execute the call 100 times
    MsgBox(J.getIt) ' call the method and display the result in a message box

    J.Close() ' close the connection
    what I was expecting is that the counter should return the the values 1,2,3,...
    however what I am getting is the value 1 all the time. This means that the object test is being destroyed and created again with each call.
    I am doing something wrong here for sure, what I want to do is that the object test is being created once , and it should last for the whole session so that I can get the values 1,2,3,4, .

    thank you so much for these links. I just modified the webservice to generate an application module and store it in the session of the user. When doing multiple calls I was able manage different transactions.
    for now I am not releasing the application module. The question is now if the session of the user is destroyed, will all the resources of the application module go back to the system? I assume so...

  • DVD's don't always play...am I doing something wrong?

    Hey, sorry if this has been posted several times before...I have dvds that play fine on higher end dvd players, but won't on "off" brand players...I'm using FCP4 and DVDStudio Pro3. I use compressor from FC and export as mpeg 2 with a 2hour setting. I then imput the compressor Audio/video files into DVD SP, build and format the dvd. I don't have any problems playing on a good player, but my clients complain that they have problems on an off brand player...is this to be expected on these consumer created dvds, or am I doing something wrong?     ok, i'm looking at compressor and don't see the audio format that has been talked about to use. The one that has been used is under the MPEG-2 120 Min high quality encode. The following is a copy and paste of the summary for each preset.

    I looked under the different compression settings and it says the encoder is AIFF, but under the settings for it, it doesn't list AC3. My Compressor version is 1.2.1
    Also, how does all the settings look for the video...see any prolems that would explain the low end players messing up?

    I think you may not using the right technical terms.  When backing up to icloud, there is no way you'd get a message saying things will be wiped.  This message may be displayed when you are performing a RESTORE from a backup and then trying to cancel it.
    If you are doing a restore, then you can reboot and restore again.
