Folder always opens

Every time i start Lightroom a certain folder is always open, showing the subfolders even if i close it.
Doesn't matter what folder i view in the grid mode when it starts.
I'm on a Mac
How to fix that?

All the subfolders are "flat", (no folders in the sub folders).
Thanks anyway.

  • One local file folder always opens

    DW9 / CS3
In one of local file location, one particular folder always
opens itself even after I have closed it and refreshed the site
    cache.
I have about 25 folders total in this site. The one folder
giving me trouble is titled "banners" and contains only image
files. If that folder is closed and I press Refresh, the folder
    then opens.
If I close the folder "banners" and open any other folder and
then press Refresh, the folder Banners opens.
If I close the folder Banners, close Dreamweaver, delete the
configuration folder, re-open Dreamweaver, the Banners folder
    automatically opens on startup.
This is only happening in this particular local site. This is
not happening in the other other local sites that I have where
certain folders only hold image files.

    Hi
This sounds like you have a corrupted user config folder and DW is not recognizing the file types.
First back up all your site definitions, then uninstall DW, delete your user configuration folder and then reinstall DW and any extensions you may have.
For details on locating your user config folder see - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494812.

  • Folder always opens when imac wakes from sleep

Don't think its a huge problem but when new imac wakes from sleep the same folder always pops up on screen(shaded in black). It always has to be closed before I can proceed with anything.Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also the folders name is always highlighted red. Thanks

  • Bridge CS4 always opens in the same folder

Since I upgraded to Photoshop CS4, Bridge always opens in the same
folder. It used to open up whatever folder I was working on last.
There must be a setting somewhere to tell Bridge to open the last
visited folder but I can't seem to find it. Any ideas?

Thanks Curt. That helped. I do have Bridge set to automatically start with Windows. I thought that shutting down Windows would cause Bridge to remember the last visited folder since Bridge was closed but I need to right-click on the Bridge icon in the system tray and exit before shutting down Windows. At least now I know why this was happening!

  • Lightroom always opens to same folder/!!!

Every time LR opens, it always opens to the same obscure folder that I haven't used in months. How do I get it to open to the folder I last used?? Thanks

I presume you mean "obscure catalog"? To change this you can goto Lightroom preferences (Edit->Preferences, shortcut is ctrl,). On the General tab choose from "When starting up use this catalog" drop-down list under the Default Catalog heading.

  • Where is the "Always open folder in new Finder Window/Tab" option ?

Prior to 10.9, we have an options to choose whether to open folders in the same window in Finder preference. But I can't find anything similiar to that in Mavericks. Now I'm forced to open folders within the same window / tab, unless I press the CMD key while double clicking on the folder, and I still yet to find a way to do so with keyboard navigation.
    Did I missed something ?

Yes I know that, but that option is completely useless, since you're forced to open a folder within the same tab.
Even with that option turned on, you still can "open folder in new tab" only by holding CMD key while double-clicking on a folder. And there is still no way to open a folder in new tab with keyboard navigation: CMD+O or CMD+Down-Arrow will always open folder within same tab.
So I consider this as a bug; maybe someone just forget to enable this option in the Finder preference dialogbox.
Is there any terminal command (defaultswrite ?) or 3rd party tool like TinkerTool, OnyX or Deeper that can change the default behavior of Finder ?

  • New Applications folder window opens always half outside the screen

As in the subject, only the first time after a log-in or finder restarting, when i press shiftA to open a new window of applications folder, it opens always in the same ugly position, i.e., on my right side of the desktop, half out of it, half inside. This happens only with this folder. If after restarting finder, restarting the mac, log-out log-in, I press +N to open a new window, it opens correctly on the center of the screen. If I try to grab the new applications window either in the center of the screen or in whatever position I want, next log-in, reboot, etc... it opens in the ugly position as I mentioned.
I tried deleting .Ds_Store file in it, deleting com.apple.finder.plist, repairing permissions (both in leopard and by using the installation dvd), clearing caches, executing maintainance tasks, searching google, asking in it.comp.macintosh, praise the lord, but nothing. Now I'm going crazy, so I need to solve this.
Ps: Maybe this problem start when I installed magnifique. It's an applications that let you change leopard themes (since shapeshifter works only on 10.4). I uninstalled after two days, being shure to delete its preference files and any other stuff that could have been reconducted to it, but the problem is still there. I tried creating a new user and the problem still exists.

Hm, I guess that makes sense - the idea is to save power; but the process of trying to transfer control between display interfaces on the fly would have to be somewhat perilous.  This (hot swap of display interfaces) is just not the kind of thing that would normally be expected by software designers.
Are the two display subsystems made by nVidia?  If not, I'd imagine it to be a practically impossible task to get right.  GPU makers aren't normally friendly with one another!
It makes sense that a manual switch to the more powerful GPU would be needed to run Photoshop properly, as complex as it is.

  • Any way of forcing a folder to open always in a chosen default "view"?

There are occasions when I make a folder which I always want to open in a particular way, such as in List View and Arranged in order of Size.
However, if this configuration is altered, the folder will reopen to reflect the changes.
Can a folder be made with a default configuration which it will always open in despite the changes the last person using it has made?

it should be mentioned that a lot of customization options are not available for column view, unfortunately.
I use column view all the time to browse my hard drive, but there are a few folders I want to watch in a different view. unfortunately switching to another view or from another view to column view by default seems not possible, which is probably due to the nature of column view (you see a lot of folders and can navigate through them with the arrow keys, it would be kind of weird if the view just changed and you couldn't get back in an instant).

  • How to change 'always open with' file settings with parallels desktop 4?

    Hi all.
here's my problem; parallels desktop 4 has hijacked file association on some of my file types and wont let me change them back to their mac equivilants
Accidentally clicking on one of these parallels associated apps causes the virtual machine to boot up, slowing my pc down dramatically and causing me grief.
Setting certain files to 'always open with' the equivilant mac app [eg. trying to get text documents to open with textedit as oppose to xp's notepad, hasn'thelped]
    any suggestions ? - i am stumped
    Thanks!

Delete Windows Applications folder in Virtual Machine folder (it's from Mac Side); disable Shared Applications from Configuration Editor.
    ---or---
...other permanent solution to try on Mac side
1 select a file in your finder (e.g. .doc)
    2 press <cmd>
3 go to 'open with' option...
4 select the correct application (e.g. Microsoft Word)
    5 click 'change all' - done...go try
When Microsoft Word is already selected, change that to another app, click 'change all', then set it back to Microsoft Word again and once more click 'change all'.
If still no joy, try strong language....

  • "always open in icon view" is ALWAYS on.I've

I've just reinstalled leopard on my imac as i felt it had built up with rubbish and was slowing things down, anyway.....
When i now open my Macintosh HD, it always appears in icon view. I click show view options, deselect "always open in icon view" which then changes to "always open in column view"(which is what i want) and close the view options. Then once i restart my mac, its changed back to open in icon view.
Now, i've researched the fact and i see that people have had the same trouble but all the things they suggest don't work for me.
I've trashed DS_Store files, finder preferences, and its still not working for me.
its just annoying to have to keep changing the view i want ALL the time. Its not exactly asking for the world, and it does as it should on my macbook, so i know its possible, i just want it to work on my imac!
Does anyone have any ideas of what to try?

Welcome to the Most...Annoying...Finder...Bug...Ever. Trashing .DS_Store files doesn't fix this because the Leopard Finder doesn't rely on these files any more for the view style. For the technically-minded, here is a breakdown of the binary format of the .DS_Store file.
Where this bug gets really annoying is if you have multiple folders inside a higher level folder and you open the top-most folder in a certain view style, every folder below that one that you open will open in the same view as the top-most folder AND if you then close that folder and open...say the Macintosh HD icon, it switches that to the view of the folder that you just closed -seemingly at random!
Then there's this little gem -see if you have this one. Create a folder on your desktop. Create some folders inside the one you just created -they can be empty for this excercise. Now open one of them and leave it open. Now, go back the top level folder and delete, 'Opt-Delete', the folder that you just opened. The folder will be moved to the Trash and...wait for it...the window of the folder that you just moved to the Trash now displays the contents of the window that it was deleted from! That's right. Two folders open at the same time displaying the same contents. That's not supposed to happen.
Then there's the bit where the files on the desktop refuse to be placed in a different location from the one where they were originally created or they arrange themselves on the right hand side of the Desktop in name order. If you move them and reboot or logout and login again, the files are right back where the were first created. It is even stranger in that if you delete a file or folder from the Desktop then reboot or logout and login again, then recreate the file in a different location on the Desktop, but with the exact same name, on the next reboot or logout and login, the file is right back where the original one was deleted from. Very strange.
Somewhere I read a post that said if you turned on the invisible files setting for the Finder and then turned it off again that the problem disappeared. I tried that with no positive results. So the mystery continues.

  • "Always Open with" check box forces you to use quicktime player, can't change it to VLC. Any help or Apple is really trying to take over???

When I Open an .avi movie with VLC and check the box "always open with", a dialog shows up saying that I can't change the item "...avi" to always open with the selected application. The item is either locked or damaged, or in a folder you don't have permission to modify (error code - 54)
So in summary I can't use VLC to always open .avi files. The file is in a folder that I created in my desktop with all permissions and working perfect (not damaged) I am the admin and owner of the Laptop and file.
The same happens when I check the box for .mov or .mp4 files but with them I don't even get the dialog box with the massage, it just opens directly with vlc and when you think it went through, I double click to open the file and it opens with quicktime. No matter how many times I check the box "Always open with" It will always open with quicktime.
On my other laptop, an old Sony Vaio with Windows 7 I never had this kind of stress. Why does this kind of thing only happens with Apple?
    Can anyone help?

  • How do I always open email messages as "view message in new tab window"?

Hi, right now my email displays all my messages in a small top window, and the viewed message in a small bottom window.  Then when this happens if I click the "view message in a new tab window" button on the displayed email, it will get rid of all my messages and just display the main message in a larger window.  I like that.  Problem is I have to click that button for each email that I open, and that can be a hassle when I have to open and read hundreds of email messages.
Is there any way I can set the default settings of the email to always open email, by default, as "view message in a new tab window"?

Ok, I looked through the help files and found that if I double click on a message in the main email window (and also click the upper left and upper right arrows to close those windows in the email folder), I almost get to read that entire message in a full window.  That's a lot better to know that.

  • Acrobat Pro 8.1.3 always opens in browser

As a result of Adobe recently automatically updating my Acrobat 8 Pro to version 8.1.3 it now always opens clicked PDF links in IE7 browser window, even though EDIT/PREFERENCES/INTERNET "Display PDF in browser" is UNTICKED in both Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader8.
This is annoying as I absolutely hate PDFs opening in the browser.
I've tried it with all Adobe helper add-ons in IE7 either enabled or disabled. I've also tried switching Acrobat to "Display PDF in browser" and back again. It always opens in browser whatever I do.
I have not moved where Acrobat lives on the disk. Nor have I fiddled with the registry. It was working fine before this latest update.
    Any ideas?

You should check your file associations (Start--> Control Panel--> Folder Options--> File types) to check what program should open .pdf files. It should be Adobe Acrobat.
Also, you should make sure that you DO NOT HAVE Acrobat and Acrobat Reader installed on the same system This situation has been know to cause all sorts of erratic behavior with Acrobat. Also, Adobe STRONGLY SUGGESTS that only one product, not both, be installed on one system.

  • Homefolder always opens in List-view

In Finder I had selected: Open a new window should open the Homefolder.
Configured the Homefolder (with cmd + J) to Symbol-view with big Icons and other Details.
But ever I open it new with command + N it is in List view…
If I open it from Mc HD / User / Homefolder the view is correct.
Could it be, that this happens, because I selected in the Settings you can reach with cmd + J the List-view as default?
If so, how to cancel this default?

    Hi Danielmak,
This Terminal command is not specifically related to Column View I'm afraid...
I don't fully understand what it does, but what I can tell you is that the script - for me & a few others - got rid of the common problem where the Finder-window only for the Macintosh HD (i.e. double-clicking on the Mac HD icon) always re-set back to Icon-View after a re-start, despite changing the window to List View and un-checking 'Always Open in Icon View' in View Options (Cmd+J).
I'm not sure I fully understand your problem, but..... You can have separate Finder-windows in different view-types (icon/list/column etc), BUT, the view-type does not automatically change between different types as you drill down into the folders in that particular window.
If you want a particular view-type & window-size to stick for each drive or folder on the desktop, you have to make your changes at the first level, then close the window... When you double-click again on that same drive, the view-type (don't forget to un-check the 'Always open in icon view' in View Options) & window position should be the same. If you drill down into the folders in that hard drive, & THEN make changes to view-type & window size, they will not stick (i.e. the next time you double-click on the HD icon, it will re-open in the originally-set position & view-type.)
Hope that helps. Apologies if I've misunderstood the question.
    All the best,
    Jason

  • Windows Explorer always opens folders in a new window

Yes, yes, I've googled it already.  And bing-ed it just for fun too.
    This doesn't work:
    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/samewindow.htm
    Nor does this:
    http://blog.hansmelis.be/2009/05/17/windows-vista-explorer-opens-folders-in-a-new-window/
Yes, yes, I've checked the Open in same folder option in folder options.
I've used shellex to disable context menu items.
    I've rebooted a hundred times.
This is rediculous.  Windows should only recognize ONE setting for this and that is the one in folder options.  Anything else that affects it is a BUG!
    I'm on build 7100 RC.
And I'm quite frustrated with this.
    Please help!

<<...tried to import the key from that known-good windows installation ...... (but
    was 64bits)...>>
importing x64 keys to an x86 installation may not work.  HKLM\WOW6432Node\Classes\Interface would have to be combined with (overwrite)
the standard location and then that be copied/imported to the x86 install.  Even then, there might be some unanticipated problems.
It's good that you had a registry backup available in system restore.  Although I like the inherent security and reliability in the Vista/Win7 system restore implementations, one thing that I miss was being able to pluck only the registry files from
a restore point; like I used to do with WinXP.
<<...Yes, my case is precisely (Windows Explorer always opens folders in a new window) on
    Win7. ....>>
Also, that is too general.  There is more nitty-gritty details that have to be verified, such as whether the issue is per-user,
or whether the "Explore" option is in bold and works properly when manually selected.  In a lot of cases, that simply may not be in bold which means it's no longer the default action on double-click.  (requires different set of steps to resolve,
focusing on another part of the registry)  But from what you've stated on JAVA update 20, there well could be some changes to the HKLM portion of that Interface key... don't know.  A before and after registry compare usually helps pin down the issue.
    EDIT 10y04m24d_130735:
One other thing that occurs to me, is that the dreaded Yahoo toolbar often installs with Sun Microsystems's JAVA.  I've removed such toolbars on many browsers because they render IE8 unstable/unreliable with occasional to routine freezes/crashes.
