Folder content (Application, Utilities) disappear after Software Update

Please help!
Folder content of Application and Utilities disappeared! Applications still working through shortcuts and Dock.
After performing another Software Update (iTunes 8.0, Security Update 2008-006 (PowerPC), Quicktime 7.5.5), a task that worked for many years on the same formated G5, the multiple errors listed in the log. Please note that I did this through Remote Desktop from a distant Mac.
Can Disk Utility fix this? Looks like the Update did not finish well.
Please help!

Hi Phil, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I think Francine's page will cure this, it just picked up the Hidden Bit, happens to Disks and/or folders...
http://homepage.mac.com/francines/articles/invisible.html
Or use this...
show hidden files in OSX Finder
Open the terminal and type or copy/paste:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
Reverting to the default of NOT showing hidden files:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false
Restart or Force Quit Finder required to take effect.

  • Isight image capture disappeared after software update

I did a software update this week. After that, Image Capture.app is missing from my Applications and I can't use iSight camera!
Anyone have any answers. Not complex please; I don't want to/shouldn't have to (naughty Apple!) trawl through a ton of app software trying to get iSight back. There is no reason for the app to disappear except software update. I haven't changed anything else.

    (1) Restart your Mac.   If your trouble persists, apply the
10.6.8 Combo Client Update using the following method:
     • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions.
     • Then download and apply http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
     • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
that completes the Combo update.  Then see if the problem is fixed.
    (2) If the trouble continues, post back and tell us WHICH software you updated last week.
We will offer other suggestions based on the details in your response.

  • Installed Applications in E63 after Software Updat...

Will the installed Applications in my Nokia E63 work after Software Update? Is the any issue found by somebody?

    Hi steverabs
Unfortunately downgrading back to v12.0.013 is not an option with NSU.
GPS data is found in "Tools"
If you have installed any applications yourself, these will unfortunately have disappeared unless they were on memory card and phone settings were saved to memory card and then restored to phone after upgrade.

  • Playlist disappeared after software update

    Hello,
All my playlist disappeared after i upgrade my itunes to the version 11.1.5 (5).
    Can anyone help me?

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Purchased ringtones disappeared after software update

I lost all ringtones purchased on my iphone when I synced and downloaded the latest software update. The ringtones are still on my imac, but even after syncing again, I cannot get them back on my phone.  Help?

I have same issue.  I have done the checklist from iMore website -- all techniques do not work.  I followed the steps, but the "remove and sync" does not appear.  I also did "restore from backup"; still did not work.  The ringtones were NOT restored on my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1.1).
Apple will have to do another update to fix this issue and refund the purchase.

  • Songs Disappearing after Software Update

I recently bought 2 songs from the Itunes store on my Iphone 5S. I then did a software update a few days later, and I can't find those songs on my phone, or on Itunes on my computer. Can someone please tell me how I can get them back? Thank you

You might (depending upon what country that you are in and if they are still in the store) be able to redownload them via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone, and via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes

My Application Stack disappeared after I downloaded an OS update.  I can get it back as a folder on the dock but not the Application Stack. I am relatively new to Macs so maybe I missed something in the setup.

Right-click or Control-click on the Applications folder icon in the Dock. A popup menu will open. Select Stack from the Display As section.

    Hi,
Windows Update itself have this configuration. You could push the corresponding group policy to achieve it:
    Locate to the following path:
    Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update
find No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations
    entry.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page).
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Here's a screenshot showing the particular links on the page that you should be clicking:
After clicking one of the circled links, you should be taken to another page, and after a few seconds you should see a download dialog appear for the msicuu2.exe file. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like for me in Firefox:
Choose to Save the file. If the dialog box does not appear for you, click the link on the page that says "CLICK HERE IF IT DOES NOT". Here's a screenshot of the page with the relevant link circled:
When the dialog appears, choose to save the file.
    (2) Go to the Downloads area for your Web browser. Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Contacts in iphone 4S disappeared over night after software update.  It is only showing contacts from my social sites such as facebook.

Did you back up to the cloud, itunes, or email (like hotmail) before you updated?  If so, they are easily recoverable.  If not, then bye bye.
