  • How to set a default folder for Live Bookmarks ( instead of the bookmarks toolbar folder ) ?

When I subscribe to a RSS feed, Live Bookmarks put these in the "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder by default.
I'll like to change this default folder to another one into the bookmarks ( like the firefox : "Subcribed Feeds" folder )
    Thanks

    Hi Andrew
The short answer is that I dont think you can change the default "browse folder". It will let the end users browse whatever folders they have the permission to view. But you can solve your problem in some other ways, like:
    1) Remove any permissions regarding the root folder for the end users. In this way they will not be able to browse it through the search component. Configure permissions for all other folders you dont want end users to access.
    2) Create a range of meaningful indexes and only let the user search the indexes (with a meaningful name), not the folders. If you like, you can hide the folder search option by adding &EnableSearchFromFolder=False to the KM search parameters (search the forum for more info).
    3) Give the users access to a simple KM navigation iview with a customized layoutset that only lets the end user browse the documents repository and contains a link to the UI command "search_from_here" which will "Opens a dialog box for searching within the current folder or subfolders" (taken from the description of the ui command).

  • I formatted my hard drive and have tons of bookmarks I saved, but I can't figure out how to get them from my old folder into my new folder for my bookmarks.

I formatted my hard drive and backed up all my bookmarks to an external hard drive. I now want to take my bookmarks from my external hard drive and put them into my freshly formatted computer but I can't seem to find the place on my hard drive to save my bookmarks to. I searched everywhere online and it keeps telling me to import an html, but that doesn't help when I have about 20 bookmark folders and about 100 bookmarks altogether. Please help. Thank you.

    '''''"... I have about 20 bookmark folders and about 100 bookmarks altogether. " '''''
Firefox doesn't store bookmarks like that, sound like a Windows / IE favorites scheme used for '''''url''''' files and folders which isn't directly compatible with the way Firefox does things. Firefox uses a '''json''' file for bookmark backups, a '''bookmarks.html''' for import and export is bookmarks, and stores the users bookmarks in the '''places.sqlite''' file, along with browsing history.
Put those folders and bookmarks in the '''\user\Favorites\''' folder so they are in IE and export your IE Favorites in HTML format, so you can import them into Firefox.
    In IE:
File > Import/Export - Export to HTML file
    ''then in Firefox:'' <br />
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = From HTML file

  • Preview Folder for Safari 4.0

In ~/library/cache there is a folder com.apple.Safari and inside there is a folder WebPage Preview. After 2 days with Safari 4.0 this folder had over 5500 items weighing in at almost 700MB.
Any way to disable this? It's going to fill my hard drive if it continues to grow like this.
    Thanks,

To empty the preview cache quickly you can reset Safari. Click on Safari in the finder bar drop down to Reset Safari. Check 'Remove all webpage preview Images'. This will not remove cookies, passwords or history unless you check those items.
Unless hard drive space is at a premium previews should not slow down Safari 4. Otherwise just do a quick reset.

  • I am looking for a bookmark but it does not show me which bookmark folder it is saved in. How do I find that?

    This is the issue:
I have 200 bookmarks from the last few years. When I go to "Organize bookmarks"then type in a search for lets say, photo
it shows me all of my bookmarks with photo in it. However, it does not tell me which folder I saved it in so I can access it faster next time. IS there a way to find this out? It is only showing me :
    Name
    Location
    Tags
But not which folder it is saved in

  • Safari bookmarks plist file

If you delete the home folder-Lebrary-Safari-bookmarks plist file, does that erase your bookmarks?? Or just reset the memorization of?
I know if you erase your dock plist, it erases all but the factory icons. I couldn't remember if it was the same here.
    Thanks,

    powerbook1701,
Deleting the com.apple.Safari.plist will not change your Safari Bookmarks. They are located at /Users/yourusername/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist.
You do not have to take my word for this, just read How to back up and restore your important Mac OS X 10.4 files.

  • I can no longer create folders for my bookmarks?

    Mac OS 10.6.8 - FF 8.0.1
I have tried to create an additional folder for my bookmarked items and there seems to be no way to do so. Also there seems to be many changes that were unnecessary. Change just for the sake of change is not good without improvements.

    Thanks Cor-el,
Who would have ever guessed? Why in the world do they change things up in such a state of confusion. I already have sidebars showing but who knew that is now where you create folders. I have easily created at least 70 folders in the past. It was so easy to go to the BOOKMARKS menu and select SHOW ALL BOOKMARKS which then showed BOOKMARKS MENU where you could edit or organize bookmarks including creating new folders.
That worked so someone thought ‘oh no’ we must change so my name will be on the change. I have been 6 months without being able to create bookmark folders.
Holding the 'cntrl' key down was a 'guess where we put it situation'.
Change is not good if there is no benefit to the change like maybe ‘more efficiency’.
Ease of use and simplicity are the keys to success.
Come on guys stay with what works.

  • Safari bookmarks doubled up

    Hi
Ive found my bookmarks doubled up in safari initially i thought it might be MM sync but Ive switched that off and they are still doubled up. any thoughts on a fix?

I'd be surprised if turning off Mobile Me sync would delete any bookmarks.
Since you're posting in the Time Machine forum, and if you have a TM backup from before they "doubled up," all you have to do is restore the file:
    <your home folder>/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
If not, you'll probably have to delete the duplicates manually.

  • How can I delete a folder from my bookmarks tool bar?

I created a folder, now known as "new folder" for my bookmarks tool bar. I have never put any bookmarks into it, and now I want to get rid of it. Moving it above or below the tool bar does not work. How do I do this?

Right-click this folder and choose Delete.

  • IPhone sync alters desktop Safari bookmarks instead of copying unaltered?

I'm still using my iPhone 4 (I know, I know. . .) and in the past, my sync process has always simply copied whatever is current on my MacMini Pro desktop as a clone of that data to the phone. Just the other day, I deleted a folder of Safari bookmarks on my phone that I didn't want cluttering up my phone's browser, but a folder that I DO wish to keep on my desktop. Upon syncing, the desktop's bookmarks were altered to match the iPhone. I lost the most current version of that particular folder containing many Favorite sites, unfortunately.
I thought the iPhone was always a downstream servant to the desktop, but apparently not. I would like to force it to be that way if that is possible and learn how to turn off the flow of instructions from the phone to the desktop. Sorry if this is an obvious control tweak, but I was caught off guard by this.
    Thanks!

  • Deleting safari bookmarks

    Hello,
I recently accidentally checked the box in iTunes that would sync my Mac safari bookmarks with the safari bookmarks on the iPhone. I have since unchecked the box, but I can not get rid of the Mac safari bookmarks that are now in the iPhone. I manually deleted all that I could (by choosing edit and then delete), but there are some that will not delete, such as the "Bookmark Bar" and "Bookmark Menu" that are part of Mac Safari. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello,
    That's easy:
    1. Quit Safari
    2. Drag Bookmarks.plist (user/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist) to your Desktop.
    3. Launch iTunes and enable buttons sync Safari bookmarks and overwrite on iPhone
    4. Sync your iPhone - this will delete ALL bookmarks and ALL Folders (Your might backup the important ones to your Home Screen)
    5. In iTunes disable the button sync for Safari bookmarks
    6. Put back the Bookmarks.plist from your Desktop to the original place.
    Your done!

  • Restored Safari bookmarks keep disappearing

I restored my iPhone to get rid of the bloated "Other" category. In the process, I had first disconnected Safari on the iPhone from iCloud syncing before deleting bookmarks and the reading list. I did a full backup on iTunes before restoring. It remains that way. Nevertheless, the next time I started Safari on my iMac, all my bookmarks disappeared, in favor of the original defaults. I restored the bookmarks from Time Machine but every time I add a new bookmark, they disappear again, right before my eyes. It spills over to my MacBook Air, which I use when I'm way from my desk.
I really need those bookmarks. I have an .html list I exported as well so they are safe, just not convenient.
I have Safari 7.0.5. The recent update has not prevented this problem from recurring.
Does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening?

Using iTunes and using iCloud simultaneously will only cause problems for Safari bookmarks. It's one or there other.
On the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud then switch Safari off then back on.
On your iMac open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the box next to Safari then reselect it.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the bookmarks.

  • Looking to back up/save all my Safari Bookmarks for later re-installation

    Hey Gang
Hope everyone had a nice Holiday Week End!
Well, looks like I'm gonna get a bigger Hard Drive, and so I'll be re-installing Tiger in the new Hard Drive.
I did get Book Dog, (whether that matters or not), and I'd like to get a few tips about saving, and then re-installing ALL my bookmark Folders (quite a few of them), for the fresh install of Tiger.
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Thank you
    Mike

I'm in complete agreement, Mike. I understood that you were moving to a new hard drive and want to do a fresh installation on the new drive. (My last post was a response to Barry, if that helps clarify anything. :-))
In fact, Rachel is correct, rather than EXPORT, (where I'll get a repeat of unwanted duplicated bookmarks from the fresh install), yes I'm only interested in the bookmark folders that I've saved (and they are plentiful), soooo I'll copy the /Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist - yes?
This is the Bookmark Folder File - yes?
The Bookmarks.plist file has all of your Safari Bookmarks: those in the Bookmarks Menu, the Bookmarks Bar, and anything you have in the Collections column as viewed when organizing your bookmarks (Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks), including any folders you have created inside those locations. So yes, moving that original file from your old hard drive to the correct location in your fresh OS X installation on your new hard drive will give your new Safari all of the bookmarks in your old Safari.

  • Error when creating a bookmark in a new folder - defaults to main folder for that group

When I want to create a new bookmark sub-folder (for example, I have a "Photography" folder and I want to save a URL to a new folder under that category called "Cameras"), I click the "New Folder" button, and it somehow changes the name of main folder ("Photography") to the highlighted "New Folder". However, when I go to my bookmarks afterwards, the "Photography" folder is there and there is a new folder called "New Folder". It seems to be corrupted or something, but I am not sure. It has been doing this for the last few versions. Now, I am on version 11.0.
Any help is appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Since this doesn't happen with a new profile, I think your best solution is going to be to use a new profile and migrate you data. The article, [[Recovering important data from an old profile]] has instructions for doing this.
An easier way to get this done is to use a new feature coming to Firefox 13. You can get access to it by downloading the Aurora build from here - http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/aurora/
Once you install Aurora, type about:support in the location bar. This will bring up the special troubleshooting information page. In the upper right hand side there is a button to "Reset Firefox". Clicking this will create a new profile for you and migrate over your bookmarks, passwords, history for you automatically. I've used it and works well. After completing that, you can continue to use Aurora if you want or you can uninstall it and go back to the regular version of Firefox.
