Folder import settings! like in Bridge!

hello I recently switched to Lightroom because I can access the same camera raw features with out having to open Camera Raw it self. Here is my problem. I'm used to being able to name folders when I import pictures off my cameras flash card! I don't like the way lightroom organizes by date. for example if I want to goto where I store all my HDR images, I goto the HDR folder I created (and any other subfolder within it) and blamo there they are, lightroom organizes by date. All fine and good if you know what date to look for! pardon me for not knowing if this can actually be done, again I am only new! but can I import the same way I did in Bridge? and to a custom folder of my choice?

You don't have to accept the default setting of LR to organize the imports by date.
In the import dialog on the right sie, in the <Destination> panel, under <Organize> you can choose <By Date> or <Into one Folder>.
Choose <Into one folder> and then click on the folder (in the panel below) you want the photos to be imported to.

First try using Spotlight Search to find Settings.  If that works go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Settings.  If you can't get to Settings:
    Try a reset:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't work do a restore from backup or to factory settings:

  • We have a new iPod  Classic and would like some help in choosing "Import Settings" (under Peferences) when loading the iPod from the Mac.  We want to be sure that we can maintain a constant sound level.  Used with Bose sound dock. OS 10.6.8 iTunes 10.6.1.

Using an iPod Classic on a Bose sound dock....when loading the iPod from the Mac, what  "Import Settings" (under iTune "Preferences"),  should be used to maintain a constant sound level when playing music?  Mac OS 10.6.8, iTunes 10.6.1.

  • How do I remove an entry from the "Store Files" drop down list in the "Import Settings" section of Aperture 3.3.2

The dropdown list "Store Files" in the "Import Settings" section of Aperture 3.3.2 displays the history of the entries previously added to the list. Some of the entries are no longer valid and I'm trying to delete them but I can't find a way to do this. This is a screenshot. Does anyone know how to do this?

Once again - the Jive system ate my bullet points and messed up the formatting
Is the MacOS X version in your signature correct? Then you cannot be using Aperture 3.3.2?
You should not be seeing duplicate entries in the "Store Files" pop-up menu. This looks like your Aperture Preferences file is corrupted and needs fixing.
Quit Aperture (and log off and on again, if you are running MacOS X 10.7 or later)
Then reveal your User Library (from the Finder's main menu bar, the "Go" menu. Hold down the options-key until the library apears in the drop-down menu)
In the Library folder select the "Preferences folder and locate the file "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist"
    Now you can either
remove the com.apple.Aperture.plist file to the Desktop, to force Aperture to create a new one, but you will have to set again your Preferences from the "Preferences" panel,
or make a backup copy of the file and edit it, if you are an experienced programmer and have Xcode installed. To fix the drop-down list you need to edit the item "RecentReferenceFolders" and delete the redundant folder names. Enter "recent" into the search field to find it quickly. If you click an item in the list, plus/minus buttons should appear. But only try this, if you know how to edit property lists, otherwise it will be much safer to delete the faulty list and to set your preferences again from the "Preferences" panel.

  • The Video check box in the Import Settings is greyed out, what have I done?

I am using a Sony Handycam HDR-SR5E with final cut pro (v7.0l). When logging and transferring my recent files I found i only imported the sound. So returning to the log and transfer window, and checking on the import settings i notice the check boxes are grayed out and the video box is unchecked.
I have no idea what I have done, some of the files will allow me to import video, but the files i really need won't. Just retested the camera and the file i just recorded will allow me to import the video. Any ideas, i want to avoid making the same mistake again and ideally would like to get the video out of the camera.

    Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up.

  • Aperture Import Settings Panels crashes.

The Aperture Import Settings panel crashes and it show you only info from the moment
you choose a location on a server called "Pictures" (same Name as the "Pictures" folder in the user folder in my case). The choose options stays on "choose" and if you click "Import Selected" you loose from now on all the option on the import on the next start of the app and even after reboot you will never have any options on the import panel. If i choose any other folder not named "Pictures" all works fine.
It seemed to me like a bug.

  • Not all characters showing up in "Import Settings" dialogue

On the "Import Settings" dialogue in preferences, not all characters are shown when you select an encoder and use a custom setting.
    For example:
When you select AIFF encoder and click "Custom...", sample rate and channel is shown as "sample rat" and "channe".
Can someone tell Apple to fix this?

Sounds like you have "Compilations" switched on.
In Itunes look at "get info" for the missing artists and see if the part of a compilation box is checked.
On you iPod go to settings>compilations and toggle it to off
To get the artists to show up on the Ipod you only need to do step 2.
When you have the compiliations features switched on (in either iTunes or iPod) artists that only have albums that are compilations will not show up in the artist list.
As for your other problem you can sort the columns by clicking on the title bar at the top, to sort by artist or you can add something to the "Greatest Hits" album title to differentiate it - for example all my greatest hits albums are titled GH - Artist so I know which one is which

  • File and folder import

I just installed Aperture and began to import files and folders from previous photo shoots (stored on a hard drive). I have many original jpgs that I modified in Photoshop and then saved as a separate version with a .psd extension. That means I have hundreds of files like 1234.jpg with a corresponding 1234.psd file. Upon folder import Aperture only imports the .jpg file and I cannot even see the .psd file in the browser when I try to import individual files?!? This only happens if I have used a common filename with different extension. Is this a bug or am I missing something....
I would really like to avoid to rename all my file names in order to import them properly into Aperture.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Every image in Aperture has a Master.  The Master is a file.  If you want to control how those files names are organized (remember -- you leave the actual location on the drives up to the OS), use Referenced Masters.  If you don't want to worry about this, use Managed Masters.
There is no way to change the Managed Masters file organization.
Aperture is an image management program.  The image is the atomic unit of the database.  Aperture gives you powerful tools for organizing, storing, retrieving, adjusting, and exporting (by which you create image-formatted files for use by other programs) images.  It purposely relieves you of the burden of doing file management (just as long ago OS's relieved you of doing drive platter and sector management -- a task two guys named Bill and Paul made some money off of).
It's not, of course, Steve's way or the highway.  You can have each of your images have a Referenced Master.  You can either organize these as you see fit in Finder, and then import the files (at which point Aperture creates what it calls an image), or you can use Aperture's tools to manage your Referenced Masters.
The simplest thing to do -- recommended for those new to Aperture -- is to import your files into the Aperture Library and let Aperture manage the Masters.  There is a lot to learn to take advantage of Aperture.  You can always and at any time convert any Managed Master to a Referenced Master, and vice versa.
All of, and any subset of, your images in Aperture can be sorted by import session, date taken, day of week taken, aperture, lens used, color space, rating, size, bit depth, orientation, file format of Master, and a score of other criteria -- all with one click.
If you use Aperture, your file organization matters only for backup and security.

  • Finding proper import settings

I have been having a problem with my audio not lining up with my video when I export a project.  From reading some forum posts here it seems like it may be import settings causing the problem but I have no idea how to select the proper import setting.  Here is some info that I can find, please let me know if you need more and where I can find it.
They are .mod files from my Panasonic SDR-H200 digital camcorder.  I am just trying to splice together a few files from my daughter's birthday but when I export it as a quicktime file for vimeo.  I am using Eugenia's guidelines for export here.  However my audio is ahead of my video.
    The files are
    width:704
    height:480
    data rate:9542kbps
    total bitrate: 9798kbps
    frame rate: 29 frames/second
    audio
    bit rate: 256kbps
    channels: 2 (stereo)
    audio sample rate: 48 kHz
Thanks for any help or direction, I really seem kind of clueless with the video although I picked up photoshop and illustrator OK on my own through tutorials, trial and error etc.
    Tracy

Use the Hard Drive/DVD project settings and you should be fine. (Make sure it matches your video, whether you're using the 4:3 or 16:9 mode.) You don't say which version of the program you're using, so I can't tell you the exact setting to use -- but a standard def hard drive camcorder setting should work.
Your camcorder is just a standard-def hard drive camcorder.
As you add clips to the timeline, you'll see  red line above the clips. This means you'll need to render your timeline regularly as you work by pressing the Enter key. (The red lines above the clips will turn green.)
In my books I offer more specific information on working with standard def MPEGs and my advice on why and how it's wisest to convert them to DV-AVIs before you bring them into the program. You'll find a lot of that information in the FAQs to the right of this forum.

  • Folder Display Settings Not Saving

Searched forums with no luck, anyone run into this problem?
I have a user who likes to set up folders in his GroupWise 2012 client (on Windows XP) to show To and From columns as the first two columns in his folder view. When he changes a folder and saves the changes in the Properties/Display/Custom Settings, everything looks fine. The next day when he gets into his client and goes to the folder he changed, the changes (adding the To/From columns) are gone. The really strange thing is they are only gone "most of the time", at other times the changes stick and do not have to be redone. User has found nothing consistent about why changes are sometimes forgotten and other times remembered.
    Thanks ahead for any ideas.

When saving the changes, instead of taking the default name of <Folder
Custom Settings> try changing the name to something like <Folder Custom
    Settings2>. While I haven't seen this with the 2012 client, I have
seen it with GW8 and earlier and usually saving the display settings
with a different name would get the changes to "stick."
Also if this is just the 2012 client and not 2012 SP1, you could try
    upgrading to the SP1 client.

i want to make a schedular probably in Coldfusion or using javascript ,  which read xml files from a folder ,import in Indesign template then export as a pdf....

I don't think you understand: I want to open Dreamweaver and build a brand new site, then when I am done I want to host the dreamweaver site on the Business Catalyst platform. I dont want to use anything in BC to build the site, I just want to use the hosting platform. I do not want to import a BC site into dreamweaver or anything like that. I just want to use BC the same way I would use godaddy, or uhost or any other hosting provider. Based on your response you said that "of course its possible to build a BC site in Dreamweaver" I dont want to build a BC site, I want to build a Dreamweaver site and host it on the BC platform. Like I said before it doesnt seem like this is possible. As of now we can only build a new site in MUSE and integrate it into BC without using a BC template. Can you understand what I am saying. I DONT WANT TO USE A BC TEMPLATE, I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH BC WHILE I AM BUILDING THE SITE WITH DREAMWEAVER, JUST LIKE MUSE DOES.

  • Optimal import settings for iTunes

    Hi guys.
I would like to ask a few questions about optimising the import settings in iTunes.
I am happy with the iTunes download quality but I see for importing CD's I can choose 320kbps rather than the 256kbps.
If I choose 320kbps, is every CD able to give me that quality? What are CD's made in?
Also I can choose a sample rate of 44.100kHz and 48.000kHz with Mono and Stereo. Which should I choose for best quality. I will use my iPhone, speaker doc and for music and movie creation.
    Thanks in advance guys.
    Andrew

Thank you so much for that link. Answered my questions and got me thinking.
With a little more research I found a guy who tested 12 CD's from his collection and found the bit rate for the CD's ranged between 798 to 1411kbps. Interesting.
    Thanks again.
    Andrew

  • Import settings panel missing

On selecting IMPORT, I frequently find that the panel at the right of the screen showing the destination and chosen import settings is completely blank. The only way I can get the panel back is to log off OS or restart - simply closing Aperture and restarting still gives a blank panel.
I was hoping the 3.1.1 update would have cure this but no luck.
