Folder info in 10.8?

On my new MacBookPro with OS 10.8 I do not see the bars at the bottom or top of the folder that shows the file path of the open folder and the number of items in the folder or the GB available as I do in OS10.6. Is there a way to configure 10.8 folders to show this info?

Thanx, Glenn. After posting I saw the topic to the right, Folder/Disk Info and it answered my question.

I just did the standard install and don't recall a "repair permissions" question? Is it too late to fix the problem?
The "standard" or default install "merges" the Leopard apps with the original apps. I know it works for Tiger because I did it twice, but some have reported issues with earlier OSs.
In the Utilities folder run disk utility.app and repair the HD (probably not necessary but why not? ) and more importantly, repair permissions.
These are normal maintenance procedures that are not necessary, but in some cases solve problems such as yours. No guarantee, however.

You might have to manually remove some old apps that you wish to update, if necessary.

Why I can't see "Ignore Permissions on this volume" option on folder info?
I'm already logged on with the administrator user and the lock is removed

Not every drive supports that option and I have never seen it on a folder.

  • Finder - Folder Info and Resize Slider

    Hi,
I couldn't find this in any other discussions and hopefully it is a stupid question with an easy answer...
I'm not a big fan of the new simplified finder.
As I work with images and do a lot of resizing, renaming and select certain images from a folder I used to find the info at the bottom of the finder windo which told me how many files were in the folder and also had the thumbnail size adjustment slider as well.  Where have these gone???
Only now they have gone do I realise how much I need them.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Ahh yes...  For anyone else with this stupid problem.
Finder -->  View --> Show Status Bar
Then close and reopen the finder and it will be there.

  • I updated folder info via windows explorer....

& now my songs/albums are missing from itunes. well, the names are there but the files aren't. because i moved/edited them. but only within my main library folder so they're there but itunes thinks they're in a different THERE.
i had a bunch of albums showing as "compilations" that weren't (ie licensed to ill by the beastie boys) so i moved their folders from the "compilations" folder to their respective artist folders in windows explorer. i also made some changes to misspelled artist names on folders and stuff. now when i try to play those songs in iTunes they can't be located.
conceptually i understand why, but i didn't move anything out of my main library destination folder, just within it so i don't see why i should have to re-import or -add all of the files....is there a way to refresh/redirect iTunes (without doubling all of my files) or do i have to go "locate" each song/file individually?
Dear "compilations": I HATE YOU. :P love, mia.

I hate that Compilations folder, too. So here's a tip - when you rip CDs to itunes in the future, BEFORE you hit the import button in itunes, do a +Get Info+ on all the tracks and make sure the "Part of a Compilation" is turned off in the Options tab.
As to itunes losing the paths to the files, that is how it is designed. It only knows absolute path names to the files. By renaming or moving files using Windows Explorer, you confused itunes.
    You either have to
    1. re-add the files so itunes gets updated with the new path (and remember to delete the old entry with the bad path)
    2. Locate each song individually

  • Can't edit folder info after importing & editing using iTunes... Help.

I've notice that when editing CD info after importing into iTunes that sometimes folder names in my music library, under itunes media/music, does not match the info that I've just edited in iTunes. When attempting to edit the folder's name I have to add the folder into iTunes again, to locate music files after edit change (?), only to have the edited folder name switch back to the previous name. Is there something that needs to be disabled. I've looked all over but can't seem to find help for this particular situation.

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
iTunes can't or won't use certain characters in file & folder names and uses a maximum of 40 characters for the file or folder name, inclusive of any extention such as ".mp3" (=4 chars). If you manually rename anything iTunes will lose track of it. The best advice is simply to leave iTunes to it. Once you've thrown the data into it, iTunes will get it back for you when you ask, so why does it matter how iTunes chooses to organize it? Saldy, I can't follow my own advice and choose to keep my library organized manually. These days I use some custom scripts to move things around and update iTunes in one process, but in the past I would tidy up my tags, amend the file & folder names, then remove the album from iTunes & reimport.

  • How do I check Folder Info

Ok in Windows, when I select a folder and click properties I could see how many files are in it and the total file size of the files that is being contained in that particular folder.
I can't seem to do that with the Mac, Get Info only gives the the file size of that folder and when I tried doing a select all for the files inside the folder and right click > get info, I get multiple pop ups. What can I do to check the total file size of selected files/folders? Please advise thanks.

When you open a directory in finder, at the bottom of the finder window, you can see the number of files contained in it.
if you right click the folder and choose get info on that, it will give you the total file size in that directory.
    hope this helps...

  • How to get html folder info into iWeb

Just made upgrade from 10.6 to 10.8. During some problems with that had to back up HD with dmg file on a separate HD. The only place I can find my old old iweb site is in a desktop folder on the dmg and I need to put it into the new iweb 09. There are html files for each page for the website in the folder. I can't open the old website and don't see anything in there is nothing in the iweb folder in the old library.
If this makes sense can anyone give some help?

To the uninitiated it doesn't make sense. That's why a command of language is so important. It allows you to convey a message others might understand.
So lets try to decipher the message.
iWeb uses the domain.sites2 file to store its assets.
    The file is in :
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
where ~ is the Home directory.
If you made a backup of your Home directory, the file in in a similar location on the .dmg.
If you didn't wipe the Harddisk when installing 10.8 the file is still in its original location.
    So have a look there.
To make life easy, use iWebSites . It shows the default location with the file.
    iWebSites
You can alway drag the file from the .dmg on top of the window. Then you have two domain files.
    Try it.
On the page is an instruction how to see the hidden Library folder in the Home directory.
This is discussed from the moment Lion/Mountain Lion was introduced. Others will provide you with those answers.

  • Mail mysteriously duplicated all account and folder info

Booted machine this a.m. and mail application has duplicated account and folders and .mac has virtually nothing remaining. Any server issues?
What is the safest way to delete the duplicated acounts and folders without risking losing everything since the .mac account is now for the most part empty.
    iMac 800   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Could you please elaborate? I'm having a hard time understanding (and believing) what you're saying.
How many accounts do you have and what type are they (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. With that folder open, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post, to let me see the names of the files and folders present at the root level of the Mail folder.
Before actually posting that information, you may edit it so that the file/folder names do not reveal any details you wish to keep private, e.g. you may replace any real username with "username" if you wish; similarly, you may disguise any domain names you don't want to be revealed. Try to be consistent in how you disguise those details, though, as we may need to refer to them in subsequent posts.

  • Incomplete folder info in Mac mail from Yahoo

Running on a Retina 5K, Yosemite OS.
I have a Yahoo account that mostly works in the integration with Apple Mail.  What works is getting emails, sending emails, moving emails between the Yahoo folders.  What doesn't work, and this is fairly recent, is that when I created a new folder in my Yahoo mail, it is not made visible on my Mac.  All my older folders are there and work just fine, but it's the newly created folders which don't seem to sync.
However, on my iPhone and iPad, I can see the newly created folders in the Apple mail.
I ran the mail troubleshooter and it passed on all accounts.
Do I need to delete and reinstate my Yahoo account on the Mac?  Is there another fix?
    thanks.

Sounds like you're seeing the full e-mail headers in Mail, rather than just the From, Subject, Date and To lines like normal. Is this in every message or just one? If it's just one, select it and press command-shift-H, or choose View -> Message -> Default Headers.
Alternately, if you're seeing it in every message, go to Mail -> Preferences, click the Viewing icon and set the "Show header detail" pop-up to Default.

  • OS10.6 search erratic, does'nt find LIBRARY or SYSTEM folder info

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and it generally works fine. However, when using FIND (or Spotlite) it is erratic, and skips files and folders in both Libraries and System. For example, I was seaching for 'Photosmart 3200 series' and couldn't find it. I located it, manually, in 'user/Library/Printers'.
If I moved it to another folder, other than Library, I could locate it in FIND.
The same is true for the two folders Library and System in 'This Mac" folder.
Can anyone help to solve this problem?

    Hey RC-R,
I found the answers to my reply above.  First, I forgot that I had put the Home Library folder in the 'Prevent' box of the Privacy panel. I deleted it and all was fine.     UNTIL - I closed, then reopened the FIND function, and then could not find stuff in the three system folders.  I looked carefully at the search window and realized that the the 'system files' was turned off.  Apparently, I'll have to turn that item on each time when conducting searches.
Thanks alot. Even tho my name is MacIntosh, and I've had Macs since they came out, it's hard to catch up. I'm a retired engineer, and I can emphasize with those less technical.

  • Search is not showing folder info in the results panel

    Hello,
When I search for documents using UI search, the results panel contains following columns: Name, size,Last modifiied, description and status.
What I need is directory column also. With out this it is very difficult for users to understand where this document is residing. Is there any way I can add the directory column in the search results? And also we would be able to sort by directory.
    Please help..

  • Problem transferring folder info to hard drives.

I have three Lacie Porche drives 250 Gb. I am having trouble transfering data back and forth between them and my g5 tower. I keep gettng "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "dsc0937.jpg" could not be written. (Error code -36) I have tried directly plugging in all three of these hard drives and get the same message (with different files). I have a second G5 and these drives work without a hitch when transferring files. Also these files will transfer without problem to my USB drive. ANy clue to what's going on?
    Michael

Two thoughts off the top of my head. 1. Repair permissions.
    2. Are you sure there's enough room on the hard drive you're transferring to?

  • There is an "unknown" user in my folder info windows

Who is this mysterious "unknown" user? I can never change his (or her) Privileges. The icon, currently grayed out, is of a user behind a timepiece, a Lépine by the looks of it.
How can I get rid of him (or her) without actually defenestrating my laptop?

This means that the Group ownership field has a Group ID that is not contained in /etc/group, so the Finder just substitutes 'unknown'.
There are 4 billion possible Group ID numbers, but only a handful are ever used.  Somehow you have stored a file on your system that is using a Group ID that does not contain a name in /etc/group
For example, if you received a ZIP file (or any other container file) and unpacked it, it is possible that the Group ID from another system was used when creating the file on your Mac.
You can use Applicaitons -> Utilities -> Terminal to change the group owner
    sudo chgrp staff "/path/to/the/file.name"
Or you can just ignore this, as it is most likely harmless
