Folder issues when importing to library
I've got a large cd library and I am using iTunes to put them all on a dedicated harddrive(B:), the only problem I'm having is how iTunes is creating folders.
When I go into B: then the iTunes folder, and I want a specific artists folder and a specific album. The problem is, like this... I find the Prince folder, but there's several other folders with one song by Prince & "whoever" from the album I'm looking for instead of the entire album being in one Prince folder with all his albums.
I use the file system to drag and drop songs onto my phone card and I don't want to hunt for every little song!
Is there a way to fix this issue about the file system?
What you are seeing is due to the way iTUnes stores files. As you know artist>album>track is default. If tracks on album have different artists then album will be split up. Several options available.
1. Set all tracks on album to be part of compilation. Files will then be stored in compilation>album>track.
2. Edit artist info to show same artist for all tracks in album. This will store files as artist>album>track like normal.
3. Change album artist info to be main artist for album. This will override sorting to store album under album artist name instead of split up by artist info.

FAQ: How do I troubleshoot audio issues when importing .MTS files?
Hello. The link FAQ: How do I troubleshoot audio issues when importing .MTS files?
does not work, and i need the answer please. My imported MTS clips are not playing back audio because it seems that no audio imported with the video. Thanks, Don.Hi there
Audio plays when the object with the audio assigned appears. This is why you hear it when the Button appears.
Try assigning the audio instead to the object that appears when you click the button. Perhaps the caption.
Cheers... Rick

File/folder behaviour when importing in iTunes?
I've recently purchased an iPhone 3G. I've also got a substantial mp3 collection (121GB), all ordered in a Genre/Artist/Album subfolder structure. Every file has an ID3 tag properly filled out.
As you can tell I'm an organized person - at least when it comes to music.
I need to know, when I hit the "Import folder", what will happen in the hard drive: Will my folders be modified in any way by iTunes? Or will iTunes create a separate folder with the +same songs+ in it, but just a different order/filetype? Will the new files (or the old files) have some sort of modification done to them, like a format change or a different tag added?
I'd like it if iTunes could "read" my files, but I don't want them modified or doubled-up - that would just ruin all the work I've done and take too much space.
How does iTunes manage the original files and the new files once I import them?
Message was edited by: couzin2000Wow - this was a crucial find for me. I just converted to Win7 64bit with a fresh install of all programs including iTunes. When I went to import my library I checked the "Keep iTunes Media files Organized" not knowing exactly what the impact would be. I found out that it completely re-wrote the native folder and filenames in different scenarios (in windows explorer). Once a file was imported into iTunes it hated special character like hyphens or commas ultimately converting them to underscores. Itunes also combined some albums into a single album/folder like Elton John's Greatest Hits 1970-2002 instead of keeping 2 seperate albums for each disc. Other scenarios I was experiencing was basically rewritten incomplete album names. With nearly 40,000 songs (485GB) on my hard drive (8000 songs on my ipod) it was extremely painful to see names being changed without rhyme or reason.
Simply unchecking both of those boxes got me back to my naming and filing conventions. Essentially back to good with no further conversion of special characters or file names.
Unfortunately now I am going back and re-correcting all of the folders and files that were changed under the "checked" settings. Much happier with the organization of the database now.
Thanks for sharing the note. -
MobileMe Galleries orphaned when importing Iphoto library into Aperture 3
Can anyone advise how I can get my existing MobileMe galleries to be listed into A3. They were uploaded via Iphoto and I imported that library into A3 but the MM galleries are not there. Obviously I have filled in the appropriate boxes etc in preferences.
1) Log in to MobileMe via the web at www.me.com.
2) Click on the PHOTOS icon along the top toolbar.
3) Click the "Gear" button and select the option for "New Album".
4) Give the album title a dummy name like "Aperture Link Dummy" and under the "Syncs with:" selection, choose "Aperture".
5) Once this new album is created, you can now click on each individual MobileMe gallery that you wish to sync with Aperture and the "Lightswitch" button for "Album Settings" will now have the option to "Sync with: Aperture" as well.
6) After making the necessary Album Settings changes for those that you wish to sync with MobileMe, return to your Aperture program and go to PREFERENCES --> WEB.
7) Under the option "Check for new published photos:", select one of the options OTHER than "Automatically" and the "Check Now" button next to it should become clickable.
8) Click "Check Now" and you should immediately see Aperture add a "MOBILEME GALLERY" heading under the Library pane and will begin to import your MobileMe galleries.
This is about as far I've gotten with getting my existing MobileMe galleries into Aperture. Unfortunately, now the problem is that they are no longer linked to their respective albums/events. When in iPhoto, if I made edits to the album/events, the MobileMe gallery would automatically be updated with those changes. I assume this behavior is the same for new galleries created from within Aperture, but it does not seem to affect those galleries that were imported from iPhoto. Let me know if you get anywhere with this issue. -
Missing Metadata Presets when importing sample library following book
ISSUE: NO METADATA PRESETS available during import. (Aperture 3)
DESCRIPTION:
I have just installed Aperture 3. I am following the Aperture 3 book. When importing the sample Wyoming pictures into the Sample Library , I am directed to choose "basic info" as my metadata preset. I am not able to select "basic info" as a metadata preset. The drop down arrow only yields "none" and "edit". Edit is all grayed out.
I then tried it in the Main/real Aperture 3 library. I tried to import a few pictures from a a hard drive. Same issue. NO METADATA PRESETS AVAILABLE FOR IMPORTING INTO APERTURE 3.
Thank youlHere is the answer for anyone who may hae same problem:
Delete the following files from Application (Aperture) /Support :
1: import Presets.plist
2:MetadataSets.plist
3:Metadata Presets.plist.
Removing these has restored the basic metadata presets.
Hope it helps.

I am running iTunes for Windows 10.2.2 on Windows 7 Home. I have my iTunes library on both this computer and another authorized machine running Windows 7 Professional. I have a large but not enormous library, as I'm one of those people who doesn't pirate, use torrents, borrow from a dozen friends, or whatever other shades of gray you might imagine. It's mostly iTunes purchases with my old CD collection imported. I have started using the following technique to sync my libraries between my two authorized computers, an ability which you can probably all agree should one day be added to iTunes -- that would be different from Home Sharing, because the music would be stored locally and thus available on the road. With the added benefit of the entire library being backed up on the other machine in real-time. Anyway, when I switch from my desktop to laptop and vice versa, I use the following technique:
Connect both machines to the home network. One machine is the "Active" machine, which has most recently been used for iTunes media, purchases, ratings, etc.
On the "Active" machine, File-->Library-->Export. Save the file as "Library.xml" on the shared drive of the other machine.
Right-click "Library.xml" where it's been saved, and open another file that has two lines in it: The root path of the iTunes library on one machine and the root path of the iTunes library on the other machine.
Do a find/replace all in Notepad to make the library XML file point to where the files will be saved on the "Inactive" machine.
Run Microsoft SyncToy to synchronize the files between both music libraries; the most recent files win. This avoids copying the entire multi-gigabyte library over the network.
Open iTunes on the "Inactive" machine.
Go to Music, Select All, Delete. Keep files.
Do the same for Movies, Music Videos.
Go down to Playlists, select the top one, hold down the delete button until they're all gone.
File-->Library-->Import Playlist. Choose the "Library.xml" file you saved.
First a status bar comes up that says, "Importing library." It has the continually-scrolling progress bar, not the one that starts on the left and steadily creeps right. Then after about 30 seconds, that clears out. Wait. Typically a few minutes. Eventually a status bar will pop up saying something like, "Evaluating gapless playback information," or something like that.
The "Inactive" computer is now the "Active" computer. I can now play my library, it has all my playlists and metadata from the other machine.
Delete all the duplicate playlists named "Music," "Genius," "Purchased," and "iTunes DJ."
Well, I just upgraded to iTunes 10.2.2 a few days ago and tried to do this again like I've done it dozens of times before. Now, iTunes just goes unresponsive after the library import. It got through the "Importing library" bar to the long wait and stopped. I can still multiprocess and use other programs, but iTunes is hovering back there not responding to clicks. Task Manager doesn't seem to think iTunes is using my CPU, and I don't see my hard drive rattling. Any thoughts on why iTunes might hang up when importing a large library?
... Also, please help lobby Apple to come up with a network sync tool built into iTunes for a user with multiple authorized computers. Something different than Home Sharing so I can pull my laptop off the network and still have the synced library with me. And all my metadata changes will sync. The technique I use seems a little kludgey, don't you think?iTunes isn't an editor. You need an app that's intended for editing audio files, like Adobe Audition (http://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html) or Audacity (free in the App Store).

Timecode Break Issues when Importing, but plays back in camera fine?
Hello,
I am having several timecode break issues. The tapes play fine on the camera in "playback" mode but once I try to import through firewire into final cut express it gives me multiple clips. I have tried using Imovie and QuickTime Pro for importing the footage. Imovie gives me delays in the footage and so does QuickTime Pro.
Why am I getting timecode breaks when importing through final cut express, but then it plays back fine in the camera? I am using a Macbook pro with Maverick and a Sony HVR Z5U camera.
Any helps would be great. The footage is in DV.
ThanksWhy am I getting timecode breaks when importing through final cut express, but then it plays back fine in the camera?
Because the camera basically ignores the timecode when you just play back a tape in the camera. While it may display the TC on the LCD screen as the video plays, the camera really doesn't care about TC during plain old playback. However, with 3 different apps all encountering problems capturing the video, it would appear there are actual TC breaks.
Questions
Is this a problem with one or a few specific tapes, or all tapes you try to capture from?
Also, the HVRZ5U is an HDV-DVCAM-DV camcorder ... are you downconverting HDV material to DV?
Do you have *ANY* other FW devices connected to you Mac when you try to capture video from the camera?
In FCE, you might try using the DV NTSC DV Converter easy setup, which ignores timecode, instead of the default DV NTSC easy setup. -

Anyone else getting errors when importing Music Library music into non-native apps?
I have had a bunch of Music Production apps On my iPad for a long time and all the way through iOS four iOS 5 they worked just fine importing songs from my iPod library on my iPad and my iPhone however all of a sudden after the iOS six update they do not any longer seem to have the ability to import these songs. It appears to be a universal problem across ALL non-native apps ... On songs that are DRM-Free. I have specifically tried importing tracks that have imported before with no problems, downloading new copies of the same tracks, and purchasing new DRM-free content in the iTunes Store. None of which will work. My devices are not jailbroken, or altered from factory in any way, I just purchased a new iPhone 5 and a new iPad 3 and neither of them are allowing me to import these tracks. I have tried:
AnyTune / AnyTune HD
Vocalive (paid version) from IK Multimedia
Amplitube / Fender Amplitube from IK Multimedia
ISequence Pro HD
Studio HD
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I have -- on a few apps -- been shown the "Convert this song to a different format and try again" dialog, and I can import songs if I use my laptop and a browser, but I can't seem to import any song directly from the Music Library stored locally on my iPad or my iPhone.
Help?
Best Regards, Rob NortonThanks, Ed.
Well, if iTunes is running, I figured out that you can drag the folder where the wav files are directly onto the main portion of the iTunes screen. This will
import the wav files into iTunes. Then group select the new song
entries and use "convert selection to AAC" from the Advanced menu.
There may be a way to convert without creating double entries for the
songs (I think that's the way you have to do it in iTunes: hence my attitude that iTunes is convenient in some respects, but less than clear in other respects..in other words, it's not a perfect program), but I delete the wav tracks after the conversion.
This is what I've gleaned from using iTunes a bit and from having been advised by friends. So, other than using a third-party freeware like X Lossless Decoder to convert music files before moving them onto iPod, apparently this is what you have to deal with when using the iTunes program.
If any Apple people are reading this, I would personally like the iTunes "importing" and display functions to be clearer and less cumbersome to use (like that third-party freeware). iTunes seems to be easy enough to use if you're importing music from a CD, but measurably less so if you just want to convert music files residing elsewhere on the computer's hard drive. -
Retaining folder structure when importing videos
Having created a new library just for my videos I want to import them but without copying into iTunes. I know how to do that.
But I do not know how to reflect the folder structure in iTunes. What I mean is this:
My videos are in several folders (which happen to be at the same level) e.g.
<European vacations> <North American Vacations> <Cruises> .....
When I Add to library or drag and drop the individual videos are imported but the structure ofthe folders is not. (so far as Ican tell)
Is there any way to do this so that I can navigate to a folder using iTunes?
It is my intention to buy an AppleTV to hook up to my LAN and HD TV.
Right now I'm using another piece of SW and I cna navigate the folders.
TIA for your suggestionsOn my hard disc, the music is stored in folders, as below:
Classical>
Beethoven>
1st Symphony>
-1st Movement
-2nd Movement
-3rd Movement
-4th Movement
Rock>
Allman Bros.>
Brothers and Sisters>
-song1
-song2
-song3
-etc.
Eat A Peach>
-song1
-song2
-song3
etc.
But I can't figure out how to load all this music into iTunes while retaining the folder structure, it just dumps them all together in the main playlist... -
Songs in folder won't import into library unless done manually
I have 8K songs and when i drag or import the entire iTunes music folder into the window or command-O, most of the songs are not recorded in the library that iTunes builds. It has never done that before. All the files are correct formats, including ones bought from the iTunes store. I've tried all sorts of things... any ideas?
A lot of my music came from my ex boyfriend who put them in my laptop via an external harddrive after we broke up (We had been sharing a computer/music before then). Also, a lot of my music came from CDs that I ripped directly into my computer, but I converted all of those to MP3s, and most of them are working. The rest of my music came from soulseek.
The weird thing is that I cant find any pattern to the songs that won't add to my library. For example, I have a folder called "Cake - Comfort Eagle" which contains all the songs from the comfort eagle album. They were all downloaded at the same time, have the same file extensions, are all MP3s, and are in the same folder, but only the first 4 songs of that album will add into my library. I tried adding the rest of the songs from that album individually, but they won't work. I can listen to all the songs just fine in winamp, so i dont think the files are corrupted or anything. -
PA Flexbuild failed- Issue When Importing Invoices from PA to Payables
When Running Payables Open Interface import, to import Payables invoices from Projects. invoices are rejected with Reason ' PA Flexbuld Failed' error. Log message of the Concurrent Requests says PA Account Generator has failed.
Any pointers to the help resolving this issue is much appreciatedHi,
Our research shows that the PA Supplier Invoice Account Generator is shipped by Oracle itself with a dummy code. It will throw a error message and exit without creating supplier invoices. It states that we need to customize.
Has anyone faced this situation? If so how was the customization done? How the workflow was customized and how the CCID was populated and from where?
Also I am surprised by the fact that how Oracle can ship with a dummy code. There needs to be a seeded code.
Thanks,

How do I stop iPhoto 11 from making duplicates when importing whole library from an older MAC?
I just bought a Mac Mini, and i tried to import the iphoto library from my PowerMac G5 (iPhoto 6). It duplicates many of the photos so that there more than twice as many photos in the new machine. I was looking at the photos and some of the duplicates are just resized photos. I guess older versions of photos.
Is there a way to just import the latest versions of photos?
Thanks,
TonyNo it's not a good idea.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
Don't use copy and paste, try drag and drop.
If that still fails then rebuild the Library to the new location:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
