Folder List Bug in Windows 8

I have a couple of test systems in my environment that we are seeing if Windows 8 might work here or if we will do the more likely option and keep using 7 until it is end of life.
Anyway, we're seeing a couple of nuances with GroupWise but the largest being that the tree structure under a user's Home does not populate when the application opens until the user toggles between the Mailbox and another folder. So for testers that use the tree structure on the left side of their screen for navigation this has caused panic. Has anyone else experienced this or know of a way to fix it?

Which version of the client have tested with?
Most of my clients are still on the slow crawl to 7 from XP and haven't
even really looked at 8 yet.

Outlook 2010 on Exchange 2007 ~ Can no longer see Calendar in Folder List ~ Only viewable by right-clicking favorite icon and selecting 'Open in New Window'

Office 2010, Windows 7 64 bit, BB sync, everything has been fine since forever. All of a sudden between Saturday and today, *poof* I can't get the calendar view.
I have tried the switches, /resetfolder and all the rest, repair install Office, etc., no go.
I can log into my OWA view and calendar shows up there, but on the local system, when you clicl on Calendar, it shows My Calendars at the top, but there is no calendar. The only way to view it is to right click Calendar and choose 'Open in New Window'.
All my data is there, can add to it and all, but it is missing from the folder list, thereby making it very difficult to use.
I also created a new profile, connected to Exchange ONLY and it still will only show the calendar if you select 'Open in New Window Only'. I can post a screen shot if this allows.

Hi ,
I suggest you refer to the following steps to recreate the Calendar folder.
1. Switch Outlook to Online mode.
2. Start MFCMAPI and create a backup of the Calendar items
a. Open the Calendar folder by double clicking it.
b. Select all items (simple ctrl+a).
c. Copy all items into an empty folder.
d. Additionally you can create a backup using a PST file if you wish.
3. Delete the Calendar folder using MFCMAPI.
4. Close Outlook.
5.Recreate Windows Profile and Outlook Profile.
6. Start Outlook with “/resetfolders” switch, this will recreate the default Calendar folder.
7. Try to set permissions on the Calendar folder to see how it works with a fresh and empty folder.
8. Copy/Move the items back into the Calendar.
By the way, I don’t understand “the local system” what you said, it can view My calendars at top in Outlook or OWA ?
And it can’t view calendar list or the calendar content under My Calendar?

List Folder does not find WIndows shortcut files

Hello,
Why doesn't the "List Folder" vi find the Windows shorcut files? The WIndows short files have a extension of "*.lnk", I am using Labview 2011 SP1 on a WIndows XP Pro machine, the shorcut files are on a mapped network drive. I can find the shortcut files if a open a cmd window and use the dir command.

It seems to work for me as well. As Mike said, the shortcuts to folders showed up in the folders list.
Here are some other thoughts:
Are you using the pattern filter at all?
Are you using the Recursive File List?

Is this a security bug in Windows 8.1?

I think I have discovered a serious security bug in Windows 8.1.
Today I was using my (non-Admin) user account and with Internet Explorer I saved a file in the default Downloads folder (under This PC). The file was saved, but when I went to that folder, the file was not there! Now, I was about to downloaded
it again, using IE, same as before, when I noticed in the Save dialog box that the file had indeed been downloaded, and that it was there, in the Downloads folder under This PC. Frustrated, I went to that very folder, but the file was nowhere
to be found. I was really puzzled.
Then, by chance, while logged in another account (namely the Admin account), I happened to go to the Downloads folder, and there was the file that I had downloaded using the other account.
Obviously, what I described above represents a security problem: firstly because my private files may get saved by mistake into another person's account without me even realizing it, and secondly because I was able to access another person account
(i.e. the Admin account) via the IE's Save dialog box, seeing the list of the files there, and possibly even accessing them (I have not tried the latter, though).
Has anyone experienced anything like the situation I described?
I must also say that I later tried to replicate this abnormal behavior, but for some unknown reason I couldn't. Anyway, I am sure that what I described above is an accurate account of how things went.

Since I cannot repro your issue on my own computer, it cannot be a bug.
I suggest we try to use another user account to see if there is the same issue happened.
Please make sure your location of download folder is right:
Right click Downloads folder, and choose Properties.
Make sure the location is right under your user profile.
If not, please click Location and click Restore default.
If we still fail to solve you issue, please run Process monitor at the end of the downloading process to capture the actions, and upload the save log here for further research.
You can also check if there is any weird actions at the end of downloading process.

Downloads list bug when Toolbar is hidden

When I hide the Toolbar (to conserve space) I can't open the Downloads list neither from menu nor with a keyboard shortcut. When I temporarily show the Toolbar by pressing cmd + l and press the downloads button, the list pops up but then hides and scrolls the window up.
When I show the Toolbar permanently and click on the Downloads icon, the list appears partially in my screen's bottom left corner. This is definitely a bug but I don't know where to submit it.

BTW, as a workaround you can view the contents of the Downloads folder in a Finder window.

It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

One of the folders of Robo Help Project Manager is listed twice in Windows Explorer. One has all the subfolders and topics of it and the other has all the subfolders but not the topics. How did I get into this kind of situation? Why do I have two folders? Can somebody please answer on this?
Since my RH project is attached to Visual Source Safe (VSS), the same structure is mirroring in VSS.

After reviewing the image I see that what you might think are two of the same folder are two different folders similar in name.
One is named Advanced_Functionality. The other is named Advanced_Funtionality (note the missing C).
I'm assuming this is the folder you are referring to?

Folder List resets on any file system action.

Frustrating problem.
Since updating to LR3, I have a condition where any file action (moving a folder, renaming a folder, removing a folder, opening LR, etc) changes the folder list from whichever state I was in, into a state wherein almost all the folder trees are open. I believe it opens them to the state my folder list was in when I updated LR from 2-3. It means I've alot of scrolling to do, it moves the list away from the folder I was working in, forces me to stop to find my current folder locations, and close all the folder windows that have opened.
I have optimized the catalog.
Any hints? Anyone else experience this?

Every finder folder clicked opens new window

I own a late 2011 13" Macbook Pro, which I have upgraded to Mountain Lion and also Bootcamped with a proffessional version of Windows 7. When I first got it, I had downloaded a Preference Pane called "Secrets" which opened up some more technical and deep settings menu where you could choose more options. Their website is here: http://secrets.blacktree.com. Unfortunately, I clicked an option once that made every folder clicked a new window. So when in icon view, or list view, every new item I click becomes a window. I know this isn't standard because my friends early 2011 MBA running Lion does no such thing. I uninstalled the pref pane long ago, and didn't notice it until recently. It isn't a horrible issue, but simple tasks get really annoying. After reinstalling the pref pane and searching for an option, there is no such thing. Can somebody figure out a way out of it? My buddys laptop closes the previous window after an icon is clicked. It's really annoying when getting to my homework folder leaves my screen looking like this.
Any help is appreciated.

Click on the Desktop. Go to the menu at top. Click on "Finder" and go down to "Preferences."
In "Finder Preferences," click on "General."
In General, UNcheck "Always open folders in a new window."

Hi,
there are some windows in our firm and we're sharing the files using File Sharing. The problem is that the windowses can see the files not only the ones in public folder, but also whole disk, like Desktop, Library etc. When i installed Lion, it was happened again for one time. But then it fixed in a way which i don't know. After Mountain Lion, this problem occurs again.
So, why can it be happened and how do i fix it? please help me.

Invisible windows appears when trying to open a new window. These windows are listed in the Window list, but I cannot switch to them or close them. This also occurs when I try to "View Source". This was not a problem prior to my 6.0 upgrade.

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

Terminal command for Folder List?

What is the command line for Terminal to print out a list of folders on my HD? It doesn't have to actually send the result to my printer. I would happy with just a list on the screen.

Open Firefox and drag the folder into its open window. You'll get this type of presentation:
You can print the Firefox window. Much easier than messing with the Terminal (especially for those of us that are terminally challenged )

How do I Open a Folder in a new window?

Hi All,
Before I moved to my new macbook pro running 10.10.1, I was able to open a folder in a new window by double clicking (mouse or track pad). Now I do it. Double clicking does nothing. I checked my preferences and there was nothing in there for this. I check help and the finder file menu in the help did not match the actual finder file menu. The menu option and speed keys listed in the help file menu was not there and the speed keys did not work.
Any ideas?

This command will change the ownership of a file.
Any file or folder with a userid of 501 is changed to 1000. Your numbers will differ.
sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 1000 {} \;
#And you need to do this from an administrator id.
More examples:
sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464 {} \;
sudo find -x / -group 20 -exec chgrp 211 {} \;
#combined change of uid & gid
sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464:211 {} \;

try an XML Query with the following URL:
/XMII/Illuminator?Mode=TransactionFolderList&Server=XacuteConnector&Content-Type=text/xml
Filter the result by its "ParentPath" column to get a list of folders inside a provided parent folder. Make sure that you have increased the default query row count of 100 to get all folders on your system.
