Folder organization and track numbers

Some background: I'm importing recorded lp's into itunes using File/'add folder to library'. Because this is not digital import like from a cd, I need to edit most information manually. Once I've got the group of songs into itunes, I highlight them all and then right click 'get info' to add artist and album as well as number of tracks on the album and genre. Next I right click each song individually to put track number in the box for number of however many there are on the album. Without this the tracks won't play in correct order, they seem to default to alphabetical.
My Question: During the import process, itunes adds a number (01 etc) as a prefex to the Name. Is it possible to get itunes to add the number into the 'track number' box instead. This will save me from manually removing the numbers from the name and manually adding them to the track number box.
Thanks

It would probably be easier to use a program like MP3Tag or Tag&Rename to tag the files before importing them into your iTunes library. Both programs have options to fill tag fields based on the filename.

  • I used the disc and track numbers, but it won't show on my iPod as separate CDs?

    Hi,
I used the disc and track numbers of get info in iTunes, and I would like to have my CDs separate like if they are 3 CDs on my iPod Classic rather then having a big long list of songs, but after using the disc and track numbers, I still don't see on my iPod which one is CD1, and etc. I took a screenshot of my iTunes. How could I have my CDs separate just like the originals?

  • Purchases and Tracking Numbers

Hey all! Looking into Spiceworks for our company, and so far so good. I am moving on to learning Purchases. Curious if I'm missing something obvious here...
I can view the Purchase List - are the columns customizable at all? Running a report seems to fit the bill okay, just wondering.
I found that I can click a row and then Edit Details to see the Tracking information. Is there any way for it to automatically update that it's in process or delivered, etc? Perhaps even notate it to me in a daily report email?
I searched the community and found some reference to Boxoh, but I'm not sure where they are getting this. Any ideas on how to keep on top of what shipments have been delivered or are in process?
    Thanks!

Thank you Leiko27 for your help. The information you provided is absolutely correct. By following your instructions grimouire will be able to view the call usage details and see the calls placed and received.
    @Grimouire,
I just wanted to make sure that when you sign into your My Verizon account to view the call usage details that you are signing in as the account owner. If you do not sign in as the account owner you will not be able to view the call details. You will know when you have signed in as the account owner because you will be able to see all the lines on the account.
I hope this information has been helpful.

  • Is it possible for automator to convert all word documents in my dropbox folder to apple's "pages" on iCloud and keep the same folder organization?

Is it possible for automator to convert all word documents in my dropbox folder to apple's "pages" on iCloud and keep the same folder organization?  I am a teacher and want to switch from using microsoft office on my macbook pro to using pages/number/keynote.  I am hoping to get an iPad next year and go "paperless" with lesson plans and gradebooks and I heard that pages/numbers/keynote are great on the ipad.  I'd like to write an automator script (workflow?) to convert all my documents in dropbox to pages and have them stored on iCloud, then be able to access the files on my macbook pro and ipad.  Thanks!

  • I trying to use organizer, and deleted folder showing up again, sometimes in double, and pictures show

    I tryinfg
to use organizer: deleting my old files, and saving others for  a folder called PICTURES.
Deleted fiels showing up again, sometimes in dobel.
Some saved picture show with a "?" mark in  the upper right corner. With these i can not work again. Can not be found, and not in the Finder.
    Plese help,
    Thank you very much.

The quote is meant as a humorous tag line - a deliberate paradox (or maybe false dichotomy). I don't recall where I first came across it but have been using it since around 1992. I later found it was written by American author and humourist Sam Levenson - http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/s/sam_levenson.html.
For your Organizer problem, have you ONLY used the Organizer to move the files around or did you use the Finder as well?
If you moved or deleted with the finder this would explain the '?' you see in the images. The Organizer keeps track of where they are for itself and if you use the Finder to move or delete things the Organizer is not 'aware' of that fact.
Now if you want to remove all these '?' items from your catalog, you can use Find> All Missing Files. When it has done its thing the Organizer will show all those images where the links are no longer valid. You can use Edit> Select All to select them all and press Delete. answer 'No' to the question about deleting from hard disk.
If instead you want the Organizer to try and recreate the connections use File> Reconnect> All Missing Files. This can take a long time if there are lots missing.
Once you have the '?' items sorted out you can use Find> By Visual Searches> Duplicate photos. When it has done it's thing it will show what it thinks might be duplicates and you can choose to Delete those you don't want. In this case you probably do want to delete the duplicates from the hard disk.

  • Organizing Music Folder is adding multiple track numbers

When "Keep Music Folder Organized" is checked in Preferences, file names are prefixed with track number. I think there used to be a way to prevent that but I can't find it in the current version (8.2). I could live with the track number prefix, but I now have several cases of the track number being repeated. Here's an example: "1-02 1-02 1-02 Where Did Our Love G". Note that the song name was truncated when the prefixes were added. It hasn't happen to all my tracks, but seems to have happened mostly to those that were imported from .WAV files that I copied from vinyl. Is there a way to prevent this? Is it an iTunes bug? Is there an easy way to remove the prefixes in bulk?

    Success! From this thread...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9267705&tstart=0
    see turingtest2's note.
The part missing that I know works on Macs and may work on Windows, is AFTER you perform that hack, open preferences click on the Advanced tab and then UN-check "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized", then click OK which dumps you out of preferences. Now open preferences again, and reselect (check) the box for "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" and click OK to get out of preferences. On a Mac, at this point iTunes will go through your whole library and fix all the file names to remove the track numbers in front of the song titles in the media files themselves.

  • Importing CD to Artist folder\Album folder\file with track number and name:

I have a problem then importing my cd’s to my harddisk using iTunes.
On my previous pc I got what I want, Artist folder, Album folder and file with track number and name:
    e.g.
    D:\My Music\B.B. King\Blues On The Bayou\01 Blues Boys Tune.mp3
    D:\My Music\B.B. King\Blues On The Bayou\02 Bad Case Of Love.mp3
    D:\My Music\B.B. King\Blues On The Bayou\03 I'll Survive.mp3
    But now I get:
    D:\My Music\Compilations\Blues On The Bayou\01 Blues Boys Tune.mp3
    D:\My Music\ Compilations \02 Bad Case Of Love.mp3
    D:\My Music\ Compilations \03 I'll Survive.mp3
In iTunes my settings are Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced: iTunes Music folder: D:\My Music and checkmark in both: “Keep iTunes Music folder organized” and “Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library”.
My version of iTunes is 8.0.1.11
    Thanks in advance
    Peter

It will depend on the album. Gracenote considers anthologies, a collection of tracks by the same artist taken from different albums, as a compilation. In iTunes the compliation setting should really only be applied to a collection of tracks by different artists.

  • PSE12 Organizer - can you copy photo from one folder to another and import copy into Organizer and still have original in other folder

I have been using folders to organize all my pictures and I will copy photos from folder to folder, often having them in 2 or 3 folders based on use.  I tried to copy a photo in Organizer PSE12 from one folder to another and you can only move it, that means I can only have one copy of the photo.  That is fine if I am using tags and want to search for it, but I want to have mult copies in mult folders. Organizer will recognize that it is there but it won't import it into the new folder. Until I move it, it stays in the original folder.  I can drag it out of Organizer and drop (copy) it into a new folder fine, but it won't show in organizer in the new folder.  Is there any way to copy and have multiple copies show up in multiple folders?

    Hi,
The organizer works on the principle of not having multiple copies of the same photo.
If you have multiple copies spread in different folders, then making changes to one doesn't affect the others. The use of tags and albums are there to give different views of your photos.
You can't have multiple copies with exactly the same name even if they are in different folders. You could select a photo and duplicate it (File -> Duplicate) and then move the copy into a different folder but the name will be different.
If you want different folders for a specific reason, it is possible to use albums to collect the group of photos and then export them to a new folder outside of the organizer. You can also rename on export which is useful if you want to arrange the photos in a specific order.
    Hope that helps a bit.

    - it's all said in the title. I can't understand why the developers turn things bad ... risking loosing Apples valuable customers.
More examples needed? (check out the communities and the reviews)
    - OSX: Maverick to Yosemite = not recommended (check it out > http://roaringapps.com/apps)
    - iPad: older versions as iPad2 should not upgrade to iOS7/8 (it's not supporting its hardware accordingly, it's designed for the latest hardware)
    - iTunes (it's possible to rollback to 10.7 - 11.4, but you need to breech OSX system security framework)
    - Pages (was a real alternative for many of us, each update reduced features and created incompatibility to older work files)
The list could easily extend to ...

  • Adding files and using coverflow changed mp3 track numbers to 49, 50, ect.

I imported my MP3 library into iTunes 7 and originally everything was fine. After using coverflow to update the album art, all of my track numbers changed. Now the ID3 information for my tracks is labeled as track numbers ranging from the late 40's (48, 49) to the 50's or 60's (58, 59, 60). See the following image. http://www.twofields.com/wrongtrack.JPG
It's also changed the information in Windows. This image shows that http://www.twofields.com/wrongtrack2.JPG
Please help; I have over 4000 MP3s and they've all been affected. This has only affected my MP3s, the iTunes music is fine. I originally used musicmatch to label and tag my files.

"This question is not answered. "Helpful" answers available: 2. "Solved" answers available: 1."
at the top. How do I find those answers?
This isn't even there anymore. I don't know what happened to it, but it's gone. I'm not really worried about it though.
The MP3 Tagger will work good enough, but I really think Apple should release a patch or some way to fix it. This is going to be very time consuming.

  • Accidently deleted track numbers. How do i get them back without manually doing it one by one?

I was going thru my itunes to try and get it all in order.
I highlighted an album, get info, checked a few boxes, and i thought all was looking good.
Then i discovered a heap of songs did not have track numbers.
I eventually worked out that one of those few boxes i checked was the track number box.
So now i am missing quite a lot of track numbers.
Is it possible to to get them back? Or do i need to sit here for days to manually put the track nubers in?
Please give me good news because its about 20G of music missing track numbers :-(
    Thankyou

MusicBrainz often isn't that successful, and then there is the problem of getting iTunes to recognize the external update.
Start with this method to restore your most recent library file that had the correct information.
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced turn off the option to Keep iTunes media folder organized.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. iTunes should now have the correct track numbers, but the files won't be where iTunes expects to find them.
To fix this new problem use my script FindTracks.
When that is done use iTunes Folder Watch to catch up with any files that have been added or removed since the backup file was created. Any files added at this stage will probably need their track numbers fixing by hand.
You can now reenable the keep organized option.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Manually Adding Track Numbers Doesn't Work!

I would like to make a "custom album" for an artist, a greatest hits designed by me, if you will. The songs are all by a single artist, but come from various sources. Some were purchased from iTunes Music Store, some were imported directly from CDs, some were MP3 files from my old PC, etc. (you get the idea).
Anyway, I select all of the tracks, press Command+I to open up the "Get Info" window. For all the tracks at once, I give the album a name ("Best Of Whomever") and manually enter the tracks (1 of 32, 2 of 32, 3 of 32, etc.) I check everything else to make sure there are no inconsistencies between the tracks, as I want all things to be equal. When I'm done, however, there is inevitably a stubborn track (or two or three) that insists on ignoring its assigned track number and placing itself somewhere else in the list. This happens most often with IMS tracks. It's very frustrating and annoying.
The way around it, of course, is to make a playlist. But without folder support for the iPod, playlists quickly become unmanageable.
So my point is, if I manually assign a track a track number, it should go where it belongs and not wherever it chooses to. (And remember, before I assigned track numbers, I gave all of the tracks the same album name and info as a group, so there are no inconsistencies from track to track, like wierd spaces or misspellings.) I've tried everything and can't seem to solve this problem.

  • ITunes keep deleting my track numbers

For some reason several of my albums are losing there track numbers along with other id3 info. Why?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • "Track Shipment" is iOS4 does not work for Canada Post tracking numbers

Not 100% sure this is the best forum to post this but couldn't find an iOS specific forum.
When an email arrives with a shipment tracking number embedded in it, iOS4 is smart enough to recognize it and turn it into a link. You click the link, select "Track Shipment" and in theory you get sent off to the appropriate shipment tracking website.
Problem is that this does not work for Canada Post tracking numbers, I get sent to the USPS tracking site instead of the Canada Post one. I assume that the number format is similar but there must be a way to distinguish between CPC tracking numbers and USPS tracking numbers (by range ?).

This has since become working in 4.0 and higher.
I noticed I now get a notes folder for each of my email accounts (ie. in my case; MobileMe gets one, Gmail gets another, and Virgin Media a yet another). And all three since accordingly correctly between Notes mailbox on iPhone 4 and it's counterpart Notes mailbox in the mac mail app under Reminders section.
Additionally, just like other main mailboxes (inbox, drafts, sent, trash, junk), they also have a "unified" box at the top in both mac and iphone, in order to view notes in all email accounts at the same time.
Hooray Apple, shame it took so long, but at least it's here now

  • How to remove the track numbers

When I burn an mp3 disk. Itune adds the track number to the file name of my music and any folder on the cd. My cd player only will display the first 12 characters of the song name, which is "01 - Walking", when it could be "Walking on S". Which is a bit better. Is there a way to turn this numbering off, or can I burn to a harddrive folder and then edit the names taking the numbering out and then burn that folder to the cd??
    Rachael

    Do this...
    Quit iTunes.
    Open the Terminal application.
Type or copy paste this into the Terminal window.
defaults write com.apple.iTunes create-filenames-with-tracknumber -bool FALSE
    Open iTunes.
Go to iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Uncheck *Keep iTunes music folder organized*, then recheck it.
It will go through and remove all track numbers.
Any new additions to iTunes will not have track numbers placed in the filename.
To set it back to normal (if you want at some time), open Terminal and copy/paste
defaults write com.apple.iTunes create-filenames-with-tracknumber -bool TRUE
