Folder Panel Behavior is different in LR3 Library

I installed LR3 a couple of days ago and just noticed a behavior that is different from LR2 in the Folders Panel. The Folder and Sub Folder display is static when LR3 opens. In other words, if I minimize a set of subfolders, close the app and open it again, the subfolders show up expanded. Some do and some don't. It's like if LR3 took a picture of the "state" of the folders panel in LR2 when it imported the catalog and now it always comes up the same way. LR2 remembered the last state of the folders panel when opened - LR3 does not!!  I don't like this. I have a LOT of folders/subfolders! I don't want to see some of them always open! Is there a new preference I'm not aware of?

Bingo!! Thanks!

  • Library Folder Panel Sorting Question

Can the folder sort criteria be changed in the library module folders panel (Win LR V 2.2)?
I have looked in the help and either I overlooked the instructions or they are not there. I did find out how to change the contents of the folder display but not the sorting of the display.
My problem is that I use a folder hierarchy of c:\yyyy\mm\dd-subject and the folder display only sorts on the lowest folder in the hierarchy. Therefore, if I have two (or more) folder sets ending with 05-james they display one under the other even though the full folder path may be c:\2005\03\05-james and c:\2008\11\05-james. I would like the sorting to be on the entire path as is done in Photoshop Elements folder view.
Thanks for any insights or help.

I would agree with Lee Jay; if you have a parent folder, then everything in the folder hierarchy displays correctly, in numerical order (using your setting of c:\yyyy\). And it displays sub-folders in numerical/alphabetic order too.
So if you right-click on your current folders and pick "Add Parent Folder" it should work. In your example, it will create a parent with just the drive letter C: and all your sub-folders should now be listed in correct order. If that does not work, just highlight the newly-created top-level folder, right-click and pick "Remove" and in the pop-up window click the "Promote sub-folders" button; that will get you back to where you were.
Another option is to do it in Windows. Create a folder called, for example, Photos on your drive. Move all your photo folders into that folder. When you start Lightroom, all folders will be shown as missing, but the job of finding them is simple; a right-click on the missing folder and picking the pop-up menu item with words similar to "locate missing folder" will find your "missing" folders.

  • Folder panel shows a folder above my library

I am slowly importing 6000 pictures from iPhoto to LR (through copy). Thus Mac.
My folder structure is rather simple (inside Pictures):
    Managed photos
    2003
    2004
    2005
    01 to 06
    07 to 12
    etc.
This is how I see it in my folder panel, with Managed Photos on top. But I just made a mistake, and started importing photos in the Pictures folder, that's one level up from 'Managed photos'. Now, my folder panel shows this level, but I really don't need it. I tried looking into the .plist, but could not find any reference.
Can anyone help to get rid of that extra level?
    Christopher

Right click on the folder you don't want. The contextual menu will appear and you can delete it.

  • Is it possible to manually setup a Folder Redirection Policy on SBS 2008 for one user? Also are you able to set up folder redirection on a different server than you have SBS 2008 on?

I have a SBS 2008 DC I would like to be able to change the Folder Redirection to a different server.  I also would like to be able to test with one user.  I read on the forums that it is best to use the wizards for SBS2008.  The only problem
I have with using the wizards is that I am unable to test and I am also unable to use a network share for my redirection location.

    Hi,
I am sure you would get some help from :

    User setting can be found:
Windows SBS Console > Shared Folders and Web Sites > Shared Folders - in Tasks panel click on Redirect folders for user accounts to the server.
Under Folder Names Select folder(s) you want to redirect (e.g. Documents).
Under User Accounts select accounts you want to have folders redirected.
    Click OK

I just tried it again and this time a different message showed up "The iPod 'name' cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." I have no clue what folder it could be talking about.

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly   Thanks anyway!

Splitting a library does not remove the folder I moved from the original library.  I exported a folder of 3000 images from the original library to a new library.  The new libraryb was created alright, but the folder and the 3000 images remain in the original library.  Why? And how do I safely remove them?

The new libraryb was created alright, but the folder and the 3000 images remain in the original library.  Why? And how do I safely remove them?
Exporting a library will  create a duplicate of the exported library items. Usually you do this to work on a partial library on another computer and later merge the changed images back. Splitting the library is not the primary purpose of exporting.
If you want to remove the library items that you exported, select them in the source list of the library inspector and delete them (File > Delete Original Images and all Versions).  Then empty the Aperture Trash, after checking that you did not trash more than you wanted.
But check, if the backup of your Aperture library is in working condition, and check the exported library carefully, before you do such a massive delete.

  • I have files in my iTunes media folder that somehow are not in my library. How do I get iTunes to scan my media folder and add missing files to my library without making a copy of each file in the same location?

I have files in my iTunes media folder that somehow are not in my library. How do I get iTunes to scan my media folder and add missing files to my library without making a copy of each file in the same location? If I use add file / folder to library, it scans the folder and then makes a copy of any file that is not in my library in the exact same location; I recal in older versions of iTunes being able to just drag my media folder into my library and it would update missing links.

Only the songs that are connected to iTunes will be copied when you consolidate to a new folder.
Splitting the media folder away from the usual location makes it harder to move iTunes in the future.
Are you go move everything back once you've tidied up or are you going to leave it that way? Either way I'd recommend you create an iTunes folder at the new location, an iTunes Media folder inside that, and consolidate to this new iTunes Media folder. You should also use the option File > LIbrary > Organize Library > Rearrange files in the folder "<Media Folder"> if you have not already done so.

  • How to rename folder in Final Cut Pro X project library?

How to rename folder in Final Cut Pro X project library? I can't double click on folder, when I right click it just gives options to erase. Can someone help?

I think you may have misunderstood - the question is regarding renaming a project "folder", not a project name.
Still, the accepted answer here makes no sense to me at all - it's about renaming an event. So we're all confused ;-)
BTW as of 10.0.5, I still cannot rename a project folder while background tasks are running - no clue is given that this is what's going on, second-clicking on the folder just (frustratingly) does nothing. When background tasks finish, it works again.

  • Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?    Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.

1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed.  Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See:  Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.
If you have enough iCloud storage.  But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.

  • Fonts in the Folder panel

Is there anyway to enlarge the fonts in the folder panel? Favorites is a good size but the folders are very small for viewing.
    Thanks
    Jonathan

    No, you can't.
    a few options:
Leave a feature request for this option in the Feature section of this forum, the more the get them the sooner there might be an option for it in the next version
use capitals for your foldernames in the finder (indeed a little odd but it helps)
the more pixels you have for screen resolution the smaller the fonts get, but you need a sharp image on the other hand so this is not really an option.
and last (without being funny because I have done so myself) if you have trouble reading it try reading glasses or computer glasses, that helped me a lot :-)

  • I want to sync to a different i tunes library without erasing, i want to sync to a different i tunes library without erasing

i have a ipod mini and i want to sync it to a different i tunes library without erasing my music off of it

If you set it to Manually manage music, you can manually load music (drag and drop) from another iTunes library.  However, you will not be able to sync automatically from any library, if it is set to Manually manage music.
The Manually manage music setting is on the iPod's Summary tab, when you select it in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.

  • Bridge 'Folder Panel'

In the past, opening Bridge would display the Folder Panel with the last folder I was working in showing. Now everytime I open Bridge it goes back to the top of the folder hierarchy. Anyone know how I can get back to the way it used to work? Opening the folder hierarchy back to where I was takes a lot clicks and is annoying and time consuming.

You may have it set to "autoload on startup", if so it will not remember any changes you make unless you close it by clicking on File/exit.
Or I would go into advanced preferences and uncheck that box so it does not autoload..

  • Different Front Panels on 3 different screens, same data collection

    Hi
I'm having an issue on where to even begin with this problem. I would consider myself a novice-intermediate LabVIEW user.
I'm going to be doing some testing at a facility I work at. We need three different front panels running during the testing one in the DAQ room, one in the firefighter tech room, and one in the viewing room. The issue I need help resolving (I don't even know where to begin and have looked everywhere) is how can I show three different front panels on three different screens. We have a lot of equipment going into the system, but I only want to produce temperatures on some, gas analyzers on some, and a red LED in the fire tech and control room (not in the viewing room we don't want to scare people if something goes wrong!). I have these set up just fine and they are working based on the thermocouples I have tested.
I need to be sure the control room can read all of the data coming in, even if it isn't displayed on the screen, and the 3 different front panels are required. How can I do this without having to run 3 instances of LabVIEW? Is there a way I can use S-Video or something, or incorporate subVis to show up on a screen somehow?
We are hooking up to a FieldPoint system as well if that helps. Im using LabView 8.6.
I'm not going to attach the code because it's working, I just need to know how to integrate the three together.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

  • Duplicate high-level locations in Folder panel

I have duplicate high level location names in the Folder panel. For instance there is an entry that reads something like "Pictures (D:)" followed by an identical entry. The duplicate location entries do not contain duplicate folder names.
This started in LR2 and persists in 2.1.
    Vista x64 and LR 2.1 x64.
    Thoughts or a consolidation method?

I had this occur when I upgraded to 2.0 where all of my imported photos were in one branch and the duplicate set of folders had only my Photoshop Save As photos...the JPGs and PSDs.
I fixed it by removing all the images from one with just the few Save As photos and synced them into the other main folders, one folder at a time, so I didn't lose track of where they were.
Once I had removed all the photos from the smaller of the two duplicate folder sets, it disappeared and has not come back even though I continued to Save As out of Photoshop.
I haven't been subscribed to this forum long enough to know if there is another reason this occurs or another way to clean it up.
