Folder password?

how to create a password protected folder or file in mac os x lion please share

There's no way to password protect a single folder.  One good option is to create an encrypted sparse disk image file using Disk Utility.  When you open it and provide the password, it acts just like a disk, and you can copy files onto it, open files that are on it, etc.  When you "eject" it, it's locked back up again, and the files on it are inaccessible without the password.

  • Finder folder password lock

ive combed mac help and the apple downloads site and i cant find a program that can simply password protect just one folder in finder.
    as anyone got any suggestions?
just a program so when you click on the protected folder it askes for a password.

Another alternative is to create an encrypted disk image.
Go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.app. Click "New Image", specify a save location (say, desktop), and choose "AES-128 Encryption" at the bottom of the screen.
You will see a mounted disk on the desktop. You can then drag anything (files or folders) you want protected into the mounted disk. When you have finished, simply eject the mounted disk (by moving it to the trash).
Your files or folders will be saved inside the disk image (xxxxx.dmg) on the desktop, with password protection.
This is slightly more complicated. But secure!

How To Encrypt A Folder With Password Protection In Mac

  • Is there a way to create a PRIVATE folder for some of my audiobooks?

    Hello,
This might sound cheesy, but I would like to keep some of the audiobooks in my iTunes private and I'm wondering if there's a way of doing it? For example, can I create a second Audiobooks folder and keep there? Is there a way to make that folder password protected, so no one else can look in it?
Any help with this would be appreciated!
    Thank you.

Where would I keep my audiobooks?
Your Audiobooks stay where they are.
You can decide which playlists your computer shares, as follows:
Open iTunes Preferences. Click on "Sharing". Instead of having the button "Share entire library" checked, change it to "Share selected playlists" and select only the playlists that you want others to see.

  • DELETING FILES PERMAMNENTLY FROM HARD DRIVE AND PASSWORD PROTECTING

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO PERMANENTLY DELETE FILES FROM THE HARD DRIVE? ALSO, WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO ADD A PASSWORD TO A FOLDER?
    THANKS!

#1) Please check your caps lock key which seems to be on and many perceive as shouting your questions.
#2) Use secure empty trash when you want secure deleting.
#3) There isn't a folder password feature. There's a utility which will let you hide folders with a password, but that is easily circumvented. Then there's making password protected, encrypted image files. The second is very secure but it isn't a folder, it appears as a new volume on your desktop.

  • TS1967 ive recently just backed my phone up and i tunes is now asking me for a password ? it never asked me for one when i backed it up

ive just backed my phone up and now itunes is asking me for the backup folder password    ive never set one up and it never asked me for one before the backup  any ideas?

It probably is a server issue but try this:
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home()/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Net use incorrect password

    Hi everybody...
Hopefully someone can help me. Since mapping network drives persistant leads to massive slowdowns in explorer.exe if some of the drives aren't connected I wanted to create a simple batch file to map and unmap the network drives.
Thats my batch to map them:
if not exist R net use R: /USER:"domain"\"user" \\"Server"\"Share"\"Folder" "password"
If I leave out "password" and replace it with * I will be asked for the correct password and by typing it in the drive is connected properly.
Somehow my specific password, which I would love to set in the batch itself so it isn't necessary to always type it, doesnt seem to be recognized correctly by cmd.
My password contains the following symbols "=%=%" but in the cmd that opens when i click on my batch it is only shown "=%"
Is there a way to let the cmd know that it has to use the whole term as pw. I have the feeling it is somehow confused and thinks it is a equation or something like that.
Can I put the pw in () or anything to force the exact sequenze of letters, numbers and symbols?
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi,
Might we consider to change the password so as to make the scripts work as a workaround?
For how CMD identify the characters, if we have used the password with "" or '', CMD would take it as a string type,  special characters that must be preceded by the escape character (^) or quotation marks when you pass them as arguments.
For more information regarding the special characters, please see:
    Command shell overview
As I am not familiar with the cmd commands, we may also seek help at the scripting guys forum and see if experts there would share some insights:

  • Create password protected website

    Hello there,
Does anyone know how I may be able to create a password
protected website in Dreamweaver, Flash, or Fireworks? I have
already built the website and it is live. But the owner would like
a password protected page so their employees can access PDFs etc.
Any feedback, advice or webpage tutorials would be awesome help.
    Thanks so much.

You can do this using server scripting - ASP/ASP.Net/PHP/CF
    for example.
The trick is to know a) which are supported by your host, and
    b) which are
    supported by your brain....

  • IDisk Public folder access

I'm attempting to give others browser access to my public folder. Everything works per the directions below except that the public folder password doesn't work. It's necessary to use my dot-Mac password to reach my public folder! Has anyone else seen this?
"Mac or Windows users who are not MobileMe members can access your iDisk by opening a web browser and entering: public.me.com/[YourMemberName], and if necessary, entering your Public folder password."

I have the exact problem mentioned above.
I have changed my System Preferences — MobileMe — iDisk — Your iDisk Public Folder — Password-protect your public folder PASSWORD to a NEW PASSWORD that is not my ACCOUNT PASSWORD and it won't take.
I have tried to access my public folder with the NEW PASSWORD but it only responds to my ACCOUNT PASSWORD.
I've reset it the password many times, restarted many times and have tried accessing the public folder through Safari and Firefox.
I'd prefer to have a separate password for my public folder.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

This is true.  Adobe Reader 2.5 does not support this.  Apparently Adobe Reader 1.5 does, but with 2.5 in firmware, you will be unable to downgrade.   The only solution I know is a third party program called PDF+ .  See http://www.mbrainsoftware.com/S60_3rd/Pdf/Details.htm#Editions .  You would need at least the standard version.
Sorry, can't help with the Inbox question.

  • Adding IR c5045 document scanner to Mt. Lion?

Currently trying to scan to a document scanner via LAN in a k-12 environment. I do have print capabilities but
the scanner does not show up. My Macbook is not enrolled with Active Directory. Rather, I am talking to the Printer / Scanner
by the IP address. Would anyone have suggestions on how I can set up the scanner portion of this? Thanks.

    With SMB not being a supported service for the iR devices, it is still possible to scan to the Mac using the FTP protocol. However the FTP service is not a user selectable option in the System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing pane of 10.8 and 10.7. So to enable FTP you can open Terminal and type;
    sudo -s launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ftp.plist
Then press Return. You then need to enter your admin password and press Return again.
    With FTP enabled on the Mac, you can then create an address book entry in the iR using the following;
    Protocol: FTP
    Hostname: IP address of Mac
File Path: path to folder from Home folder
User Name: Full user name of the account owner of the destination folder
Password: Password for the account above
    An example of the iR address book configuration to a Mac with an IP address of 172.17.4.33 and a user of Paul and a folder called Scans located on his Desktop would be;
    Protocol: FTP
    Hostname: 172.17.4.33
    File Path: Desktop/Scans
    User name: Paul
    Password: password

  • Attachment limit

I was wondering how you increase you attachment limit in Mail. I have a .Mac account and I thought it had something to do with that but now I am confused. I hate having to send more than one e-mail to friends to send them multiple attachments. I guess I could just send a link to my public folder with iDisk. Can anyone access my public folder given the password whether they are on a PC or Mac. Not many of my friends have a Mac.

This is determined by the email account provider for the account - your ISP if the email account is provided by your ISP or in this case, .Mac.
A .Mac account has a 10 MB overall message size limit for received and sent messages which is a common limit now but some providers still have a smaller limit.
If your email account provider has a larger overall message size limit for sending messages but the recipient has a smaller limit, the message will be rejected by the recipient's incoming mail server so you must take the recipient's incoming mail server overall message size limit into consideration.
Message attachments must be encoded before being sent and decoded when recieved. The Mail.app uses MIME 1.0 for attachment encoding/decoding which is the internet standard. The problem with MIME is it isn't very efficient. The encoding process increases the size of the pre-encoded file by roughly 50% or so. An 8 MB file pre-encoded will be roughly 12 MB in size after the encoding process placing the overall size of the message over the 10 MB limit not taking any message text into account.
With Hotmail you can just order more space to e-mail files.
Can you not do this with Mac Mail?
    On a per message basis?
Not with any email client such as the Mail.app which wouldn't make any difference anyway since the overall message size limit for received and sent messages is determined by the email account provider for the sender and recipient.
Can anyone access my public folder given the password whether
they are on a PC or Mac. Not many of my friends have a Mac.
    Yes.
If you're a .Mac member, you can allow other users to add or remove files from your iDisk Public folder by assigning read-write access to your folder. Assigning read-write access to your Public folder doesn't affect the other folders on your iDisk.
IMPORTANT: If you assign read-write access to your Public folder, it's a good idea to password-protect it.
To assign read-write access to your Public folder:
Open System Preferences and click .Mac.
Click iDisk, and then click the Read & Write button.
Your available iDisk storage is affected each time someone adds or removes a file from your Public folder.
    For Mac users:
You can open another .Mac member's Public folder to see and copy files. If the member has set access privileges to read-write, you can also add and remove files.
To access another person's Public folder, you need to know their member name and their Public folder password (if they use one to protect the folder).
    To open someone's Public folder:
Choose Go > iDisk > Other User's Public Folder.
Type the member name of the person whose Public folder you want to open in the Member Name field.
    Click Connect.
If a password is required, type it in the Password field and click OK.
The person's Public folder opens on your desktop.
    For Windows Users:
If you're using your iDisk to share files with Windows users, they need the following information to see and copy files in your Public folder.
Windows users can open your iDisk using Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows 98.
To access your Public folder, the Windows user needs to know your member name and Public folder password (if your Public folder is password-protected).
To open someone's Public folder using Windows:
If you're using Windows XP, use iDisk Utility for Windows to open someone's Public folder. To download iDisk Utility for Windows, go to www.mac.com, and click "iDisk Utility for Windows XP."
If you're using Windows 2000, open My Computer, choose Map Network Drive from the Tools menu, then click "Web folder or FTP site." Enter the following as the location to add: http://idisk.mac.com/membername-Public? (where "membername" is the other person's .Mac member name).
If you're using Windows 98, open My Computer, double-click the Web Folders icon, then double-click Add Web Folder. Enter the following as the location to add: http://idisk.mac.com/membername-Public? (where "membername" is the other person's .Mac member name).
You can also use HomePage to create a file sharing page.

  • Use SSIS to read files in SharePoint library

    Hi,
I'm trying to use SSIS to read data from an Excel file in a SharePoint document library and I am having some problems with it.
First I tried to use the Excel file as a source file in an Excel Source task which worked well in BIDS but not on the SQL server. ("CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER")
Next I tried to read data from an Excel file on the SQL server file system which worked well on the SQL server.
Next I tried to use a File System Task to copy the Excel file to the SQL server file system. This also worked well in BIDS but not on the SQL server. ("The file name \\sharepoint\mylibrary\myfile.xls specified in the connection was not valid.")
I have also tried to let the SQL server agent run on a domain account that is set up as a reader on the SharePoint document library without success.
    Where am I going wrong?

I was playing around with the same issue. In my case SSIS and SharePoint run on the same server.
In the IIS Log I noted that requests to the SharePoint library are made without credentials. This returns HTTP 404.
I enabled anonymous access to the SharePoint Site and this Library without any change.

  • Mountain lion wants permission to delete or do anything for tha matter

how do I stop Mountain lion from asking for my password everytime I want to take a breathe!!
this is the craziest thing YET from apple.
    looked everywhere.
    MAKE IT STOP!

    Hi dalars,
You can change some of these preferences.
For the trash, in the Finder, Finder menu > Preferences > Advanced
[  ]  Show warning before emptying the Trash
[  ] Show warning before changing an extension
For the new folder password, it depends on where you are creating the folder.  If you are creating it in your home folder, it shouldn't ask for a password as you already have read/write permissions there.  If instead you are trying to create a folder at the root of the hard drive, it will ask for the admin password to override the built in protections.  In general, it's recommended to keep your stuff in your Home folder.  It makes it much easier to keep track of stuff and makes backups easier too.
