Folder Permissions in Bridge
Hey everyone,
I am trying to figure out how Bridge handles creating folders while your in the program. It seems to be not following my normal permission set for creating folders, where everyone has access, to its own set, where everyone has no access.
Is there a setting that handles this that I can change? Or is there some part of its plist file that I need to change in order for Bridge to use my permission set?
Thanks alot.
It seems I did not read your post correctly the first time and you are not
referring to normal use but to everyone having access.
Never noticed it before but indeed CS3 (sadly also in CS4) folders created
in Bridge are locked to everyone and strangely enough I can't change this
setting even with all the admin access???
This is incorrect behavior and should be fixed, but if so that will not be
until next release (CS5) will be brought to the market and that is not to
your help at this moment.
I have not noticed it before for 2 reasons, I have a stand alone machine and
am the only user , secondly I have the habit of creating new folders in the
finder.
The only workaround is for you to also use the finder. Not ideal but you can
rename them in Bridge either click on the folder name in the Folder panel
until it highlights or in the content panel. You might create one parent
folder with many new empty unnamed folders. You can drag and drop them in
Bridge and rename.
As said, not ideal I'm afraid.
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this, but I have been swamped
with issues at the office.
I have tried setting this computers umask to 000 to try and get around this
issue, but it didnt work. I have also tried resetting the preferences, as per
your instructions, but that too gave me no results.
The operating system is 10.5.8 and the Bridge version is 2.1.1.9. We are using
the software on a standalone computer as well.
Thanks for your help in this matter.

Time Machine not backing up new folder created in Bridge
Again, as has happened in the past, I create a folder under Adobe Bridge (photo raws and edits) that doesn't get backed up in TM.
Since I've been burned in the past, I go checking into the TM backup ("Latest") after a backup to be sure the backup occurred and there is no sign of the new folder or files.
Anyone else have non-backups under TM?
(Yes: I checked, the folder in question is not in the TM exclude list);
Anything I'm missing?Anyone else have non-backups under TM?
Don't use TM myself, instead I use Synchronize Pro, so can't check my self. But in general. creating a new folder in Bridge it appears on your system and then TM should be able to read it. Can you give some more details.
Did you use spaces or other characters like hyphens, commas and slashes (',/)
Where did you save the folder to, nested in another folder or as top of the list folder.
And you double checked the folder is not locked and you do have read and write permission to it (select the folder and choose get info, at the bottom shows the permissions for the user) -
Trying to reset home folder permissions and acls
I have been having a nightmare of a time with Adobe apps, primarily Premiere Pro, crashing CONSTANTLY and randomly. I have no idea what's causing it and have been going back & forth to no avail for days with Adobe, and trying a bunch of different things. I keep getting an error that says Thread 0 Crashed com.apple.main .......
I am on a 2014 Mac Pro 12 core, 64GB Ram with dual AMD D700 GPUs, running Yosemite.
The steps I have tried have included messing around with various permissions within the Adobe folders and enclosed files. That led me to then need to completely reinstall my OS from recovery mode. I tried multiple times going into recovery mode, doing resetpassword in Terminal, and then trying to reset the home folder permissions from there, but it just never says done and don't think it's doing anything. I have let it sit for hours and not gotten anything back on it.
I searched the forums and found an older thread where Linc Davis had posted a terminal code to put in, and tried that. Many said that worked for them, but it didn't seem to change anything for me. After doing that, i did go back into recovery mode and see if i could reset the permissions from there, but again, just greyed out the Done button and stayed for hours.
I am at a complete loss on what to do and really need some help. I am days overdue on projects because of Adobe's crashes and because of the time I've been wasting trying to re-sort out the IT stuff that I don't really know much about. Can you please help? ANYONE?it's only been with adobe applications, but unfortunately, they are just not being helpful. I'll paste a crash report here below, maybe you can make sense of it. They can't seem to and I certainly can't. I really don't know what to do. All they keep doing is asking me more questions, which to me doesn't make a whole lot of sense in itself. I would think that an Adobe Crash Report should tell Adobe exactly what's causing the crash. So frustrating and right now highly detrimental to my business.
The only thing that is happening of question besides the Adobe apps crashing is that I can't reset my home folder permissions through the recovery mode. I tried last night and let it run overnight and this morning, it still had not said 'Done'. So i'm not sure if that denotes a different problem somewhere

Exchange 2013 SP1 RU4 Public Folder Permissions
Hi All,
Exchange 2013 SP1 RU4 Public Folder Permissions
We have a weird problem after migrating our PF from Exchange 2010 to 2013.
Users do not have permission to create or delete in PF even thou they have owner permissions.
Example:-
I have created a '\test1' folder in the root which has the following permissions (this works OK):-
Myself - Owner
Default - Author
Anonymous - None
I have created another folder '\admin\test2' folder which has the same permissions as above but i get the "cannot create the folder. you don't have appropriate permissions to perform this operation"
I get this problem across all of the folders that were migrated. clean folders created at the root with the correct permission function as per expected.
Regards
Paul SheldonHi,
I recommend you use the Get-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity publicfolder command to check the client access permissions to a public folder.
If possible, please remove permission and re-add permission to check the result.
Best regards,
Belinda

ERROR You do not have enough access privileges / Music Folder Permissions
OS...W XP iTunes 7.6.2.9 HP. Classic 60 GB HP iPod. I have this error when I try to import some CD's. Am trying to import a brand new cd I just bought and error reads...
*"Error occured while converting the file "Large Time" ( or whatever the 1st songs name may be). You do not have enough ACCESS PRIVILEGES for this operation.*
iTunes could not save your music folder because you do not have write access. Check permissions on your Music folder and folders in your Music Folder, then try converting this file again".
Well I've tried every way I can think to check the permissions and am clueless. I do know that after going through my pc settings for folders, that after some time, I was able to save the last playlist and sync it. I've no idea why, but I do know I have this problem frequently. And it's BAaaaack.
If you find or have the answer please post...ty. MP3 players seem more user friendly, using WMP, but this iPod was more for the money.

Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~

Hidden network drives "home" and "net" shown in folder view Adobe Bridge CS5 / Lion Problem
Updated to Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion and got this "problem":
The hidden network drives "home" and "net" shown in folder view Adobe Bridge CS5 (unlike in 10.6 Snow Leopard).
Normally these network drives are hidden (in Finder and other Apps) - but Adobe Bridge CS5 is showing them, despite "show hidden files" is unchecked in Adobe Bridge.
Not a dramatic "bug", but it also shouldn't be a big problem for Adobe Bridge engineers to solve this. My first question to the Adobe Support was answered like: "we don't know what Apple did change, so we cannot do anything". Hmmm, are you serious?
I tried to resolve that problem by myself but failed. So, if an Adobe engineer is reading this post: perhaps Adobe Bridge is ignoring the automounter master map (that was my approach to resolve it):
# Automounter master map
+auto_master # Use directory service
/net -hosts -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
/home auto_home -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
/Network/Servers -fstab
/- -static
You cannot do anything to these folders, so it is not a serious issue, but, I mean, did someone at Adobe check compatibiliy with 10.7 and ignored this issue? If so, are there an other issues ignored?
But I guess, the compatibilty update for Bridge CS5 for Lion is Bridge CS6 - to be fair: I also have to say, that in general Bridge is running okay on Mac OS X 10.7.2 (but could be better, as always;)Hi Curt Y,
thanks for your answer! Yes you' re right, I forgot to mention that ... before I posted here, I sent a bug report via the Apple Bug Report webpage about the issue ... of course, here are 2 parties involved.
I had a similiar problem once and I got a meesage back from Apple: "that it is a 3rd party problem, sorry" (it was about color management).
I am just a user and I often feel very strange about Apple's (topsecret) communication behaviour ... Whatever, what do I know about software engineering? - Right.
Maybe someone on this forum has an idea, because I'm afraid, thus it is not a serious bug, no one would take care about it in the next time (during my research I found an older post here on the forum about the same problem ...).
thanks for help in advance,

File and folder permissions for Adobe Photoshop CS5
Good day,
I am an IT specialist and I work for a Canadian governement agency and we are having an issue with Photoshop CS5. After successfully installing Photoshop CS5 from the Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium set(using a local machine administrator account), Photoshop crashes immidiatly after launching it(even with the local administrator account). The exact error message is as follows:
The instruction at "0x230dad8dc" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
I know this is an environement issue and not an application or hardware issue since I was able to successfully install and run Adobe Photoshop CS5 on a plain vanilla install of Windows SP3 XP on the same model of workstation(HP DC7800). This later also confirms it is not a RAM or video adapter issue either. My experience tells me it would be more related to file/folder permissions on the workstation(although I'm open to other suggestions). Because we are a governement agency, our workstations have machine and user policies and desktop configurations that get applied to the workstations automatically upon joining our domain via GPOs and SMS. Certain system files and folder permissions may be locked down for security reasons therefor I was wondering is someone has a list of files and folders that Adobe CS5 needs access to upon startup in order to properly function?
If anyone would like more details or information please let me know and I'll try to be more specific.
Thanks in advance to all who take the time to read and help out!I appreciate that you're trying to surmise what's different, and it's good that you have had success with similar/identical hardware. At least you know it can work.
However, I wouldn't bet just yet that it's a permissions issue. I'd think you should get a specific error if a locked-down file needed to be accessed, not a null pointer crash. The Photoshop installer should be setting up the proper permissions on its own files for it to run.
Is it exactly the same video card as the other computer, on which Photoshop works?
Are you sure the video drivers are up to date with the same version as on the other computer?
At exactly what point during startup does the failure occur (i.e., is the splash screen showing, and what does the status line in the splash screen say it's doing)?

Where is the extension folder for Adobe Bridge? (Mac)
I am trying to install the output module on Adobe Bridge. I am totally new to Creative Suite and photoshop. I can't find any information on bridge extensions at all. Here's the page I found on installing the output module- http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/install-output-module-bridge-cc.html
I downloaded it but after that is says to copy it into the extension folder. Where is the extension folder? Is it is Bridge? Is it in Finder? Any information on extensions is much appreciated! What exactly are extensions? What is the difference between the extension folder and extension manager?
Thank you!At first sight I can' see anything wrong about the correct locations you used.
There was no need to delete all workspaces but that also should do no harm I would think.
You once pointed at the bridge6.plist file but it is not clear to me what you did with it. Personally I would quit Bridge and delete this plist file manually and then restart with again holding down option and use reset preferences.
And you did also use the reset to standard workspaces instead of the reset workspace to only reset the selected workspace. I don't know for sure this will make a difference but it is worth a try.
And while you are in the user library to delete the plist file for Bridge also look in the folder caches in this library.
User / library/caches/adobe/Bridge CC and inhere find and delete both the plug in and cache folder, then restart Bridge.
Finally it might be also worth a try to download CS6, it should not be needed to do so but it was one of the earlier solutions that worked. In your ACC menu click on any app that shows blue and this brings you to the CC website. Choose download center and find PS. Click on the icon and this gives you the detailed download page. Inhere you can change CC to CS6.
Download PS6 it and install it (this also installs the CS6 version of Bridge which was not a separate download in CS6). Then try first start CS6 and start the AOM which is installed by default in this version.
Then when having used this once quit CS6 and try CC (or even combine with restarting your Mac).
Hope this helps, because I'm running out of options -

Question about folder permissions
I have set up separate user accounts for myself (as administrator) and my wife and four kids (a total of six user accounts). After having problems in iTunes and iPhoto with messages regarding "locked disk, or no access" I created a group called "family" which includes all the user accounts plus admin and root. I then changed the folder permissions for all the user subfolders (and their subfolders) to be as follows:
owner = Eric, access = read & write
group = family, access = read & write
others = read only
(Note that the folder permissions for the Users folder itself are the original ones, i.e., owner = system, access = read & write; group = admin, access = read & write; others = read only.)
Are the changes I made unnecessary or incorrect? An alternative scheme that was recommended by someone in a thread pertaining to the iTunes "locked disk" issue was the following for a given user (presumably someone other than the administrator):
owner = (user name), access = read & write
group = (user name), access = read only
others = read only
Any comments/advice will be welcome.Hi Eric55,
I want to suggest two things:
You yourself should use a non-admin account for daily
work. An administrator should administrate, and
should not write a letter. This would reduce risks of
malicious software doing bad things to your whole
system (since it would have your admin rights) and
you yourself doing bad things without noticing (like
deleting important files accidentically just because
you can do so without warning).
Many thanks for your very helpful reply. I can see the wisdom of what you're suggesting. So, should I just create another account, e.g., called "Eric2," that I use for routine work, leaving the "Eric" account that has admin rights alone except when needed for admin tasks?
Regarding your question with folder permission: There
is a folder named "Shared" that should hold all the
files that everyone needs to have access to. The
important bit is that the files in it must also be
available to everyone.
I had understood from the book I bought ("Mac OS X, The Missing Manual, Tiger Edition," by David Pogue) that all users have access to the Shared folder and its contents. In fact, this is how I got into this whole issue of folder permissions. Pogue's book suggests putting music (MP3) files into the Shared folder (rather than leaving them in each user's Music folder) so that all users can share them in iTunes (after switching the iTunes music folder location to the Shared. . . folder). I did this, but then my son, working from within his user account, was unable to copy the contents of a music CD into the Shared folder. That got me started on what seems to have been a misguided effort to expand folder permissions so that he (and other users) would have read & write access to the Shared folder, not just read only access.
But once I did that, the kids starting having problems with iTunes and iPhoto from their user accounts. For example, a common problem was that when trying to open iTunes they would get an error message saying that iTunes was on a locked disk or they didn't have permission to access the folder. This didn't make sense, since I thought I'd expanded their access rights sufficiently by putting them in a "family" group and giving that group R&W access. So at that point, I concluded that I didn't understand permissions well enough!
And for this a common group is
alright, but Mac OS does not do this automatically;
all files copied there must be changed manually (or
by a folder action Apple Script, if you know how to
do this) to this group and have the proper rights
set.
That's what I thought I'd done with my "family" group, but that seems to have created more problems that it solved.
BTW, I would not put admin or root users in this
common group, again out of caution.
OK, makes sense.
And user folders
should belong to users, not to everyone. Just my
thinking ...
Again, what I was basically trying to accomplish was to have all the music files in the Shared folder, but at the same time make it possible for individual users to add music to the Shared folder. Maybe you have some suggestions for how to do that, and for how to revise the permissions I set up, e.g., to put them back to how they were before. If so, many thanks in advance!

Adobe PCD folder permissions change after launching CS5 programs
There is a folder apparently important for Creative Suite
5 licensing: C:\program files (x86)\common files\adobe\adobe pcd
Unfortunately the default permissions after installing (either standard install or install from Adobe Enterprise Deployment tools) are:
Everyone: Read
Administrators: Full Control
This presents a problem for using the software if your users are not local administrators.
If you change the folder permissions to grant access to other users, than launch InDesign and/or Photoshop, the Adobe PCD permissions revert to their original settings. I have verified that my permissions save fine by closing and reopening the folder permissions. It's only after a CS5 program is launched that the permissions revert.
How can I get the permissions to stay? Until then I have to make people local admins, which is not good if they find out. They will install all kinds of crapware and crappy legit software and break their computers further.
Thanks,
Josh G
Portland, ORHello Stu,
We are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. I don't think running this particular operating system is unique.
The only other idea I have at the moment, besides having everyone be a local administrator, is to write a script that updates the folder permissions. The tricky part is figuring out how often the script should run. I'm guessing that the script should run daily but I'm not sure that is frequent enough. I suppose if the script ran hourly that wouldn't hurt anything.

OSX 10.8.5 Home Folder permissions in AD environment
So I work in a University environment and traditionally we have been using Windows computers, thus a large AD environment. Recently we have been having Mac OSX computers trickle into the environment and I have been the one tasked with making sure everything works. From OS X documentation every version 10.6.8 and above *SHOULD* work in an AD environment, but we are working with 10.7 and above so that shouldn't be a problem.
I have tested adding a 10.7 and 10.8 desktop to the domain and all works fine, I change the log in settings to require username and password, and I can log in fine as a Enterprise Admin, Domain Admin, and Domain User. Now my issue comes in when I'm trying to write files, nothing works. I see that the home directory gets created fine and has the correct permissions, but none of it's subdirectories have the correct permissions. As the local admin I have to go to the folder permissions of the home directory and click the action cog wheel and say "Apply to enclosed items..." is there any way I can streamline this process so that everytime a home directory gets create, all of it's subdirectories are owned and writeable by the user who logged in?You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

Active studio folder permissions
I am unable to set folder permissions in Shared Reports by using an ldap group to specify access, it only works when I set the folder permissions by using a specific ldap user. When I use the ldap group and login by the user which is a member of the group mentioned above I don`t see any folders. Is there a workaround possible ? Thnx.
That is strange. I think you are confusing confusing enterprise groups (e.g. LDAP) with BAM application roles (e.g. Administrator, ReportCreator, etc.). BAM only adds/synchronizes enterprise groups if those groups have assigned BAM application roles. This is done to make sure that users are assigned the correct BAM application roles even when the role is granted by virtue of membership in an enterprise group that is assigned that application role. This is done for both login and registerUser(), so their is no difference between the two regarding enterprize groups.
See section 23.3.3 on BAM application role vis-a-vis wls/ldap groups in "Managing BAM Guide" at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/integration.1111/e10226/bam_manage.htm#CIHJJGFJ -
Default File and Folder Permissions
Hello everyone,
Is there anyway to set a default file/folder permissions for a parent folder and then if any new files or folders get created within that folder that files use 0644 and folder use 0755? I'm running MAMP for a localhost test site to run Joomla CMS, I have the parent folder set to 0755 but when ever I install a new extension in to Joomla the files are not writable. Is there a way I can set the main parant plublic_html / www folder to work like this for new child files and folders?
Thanks guys.Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

QTSS file and folder permissions
I am having a lot of problems getting QTSS and QTSS Publisher working correctly. I think this may be due to file and folder permissions. Does anyone know what the correct ownership and access settings should be for the folders containing my quicktime files?
Thanks.Try setting the ownership and permissions of those files to the ones mentioned on the end of this page, which are: owner: qtss, group: admin, permissions for owner and group: Read & Write, and Read only for others.
