Folder/Playlists won't stay in order

I created numbered playlists to keep them in order in iTunes.  Once I go to my ipod (nano 6th gen, 8 gig), the playlists are out of order in the area where I choose the playlists to put on my nano.  It seems like a bug.  I even put them in a folder to try to fix it, and they're still out of order.  Any ideas?

Same problem here..... Its annoying.
It took me a while to find this problem, seems like there are a lot of problems with sorting music with the update.
You would think the apple would start programing with the understanding they would build off the old design  so that they ADD not subtract a million things people find useful then go back and bring back all the things people already liked about the product they use.
APPLE Please fix this.

  • The playlist on my iPhone won't stay in order

I teach a fitness class and put on my songs into a playlist for each day's class.  As of yesterday my playlist won't stay in order.  If I move a song it either goes back to where it was or goes somewhere else within the playlist.....  Example:  my cool down song started playing after the second song finished!!  When i tried to move it to the end, it moved itself to second last.... this is problematic!  I don't have the device on shuffle...

I found the problem. I went into view and there it has sort by and I chose Title and that solved my problem. It was weird that this only just started happening and it was only the last few of the Album I was doing.
Now I'm moving my album into imovie and the only problem I'm having so far is that the Ken Burn effect doesn't show what I want it to show on about 10% of the photos. ie, it will pan in on a photo of my mother & father's feet and slowly pan up to the shoulder before the next slide begins. Can you tell me how to adjust the panning so that the subject on the photo is in the imovie?
    Thanks, Gordon

  • The last few photos in my album won't stay in order even though I have them numbered

I have added about 40 new photos to an old album, but the last few will not stay in order. There are over 700 photos in this album and have them numbered consecitivly. I have checked the numbering and have moved them back into position several time, but whenever I close iphoto and reopen it they always move back to the same spot, near the beginning of the album.

  • Why is it that my playlist won't stay in the order I make it

I currently teach a spinning class at the YMCA and need my music to play in a specific order so why is it that when i rearange it it goes into a completely random order or it just reverts to the previous order it very frustration, i have disabled shuffle.

Once you arrange the playlist order in iTunes, right-click (or control-click on Mac) on the playlist name and select "Copy to play order" to save it, then re-sync your device to iTunes (if you auto-sync).
If you manually manage music on your device, you need to make this change on the iPad while connected to iTunes (navigate to the iPad's contents from within iTunes) or replace the playlist on the iPad with an edited copy from your iTunes library.

  • Playlists won't stay in folders

I'm in the process of sorting all my music so that I have a playlist for each my complete albums. I'm then putting these playlists into a playlist folder called 'Albums'. This has been working fine until today. Now, when I add a playlist to the folder it stays there for about 10 minutes then it gets booted back to the main playlists list. I'm making minor tweaks to other tracks as I notice mistakes too (correcting years, artist names, etc) and I think the playlists are being moved every time iTunes syncs my changes to iTunes Match. This seems to be the pattern but I'm not certain.
I thought maybe there was a limit on how many playlists you could put in a folder but it's stuck at 107, which seems like an odd limit.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • G5 Nano playlist won't keep chapter order

I have an audiobook which I downloaded from librivox. The book has 27 chapters each of which shows up with the chapter number, and the title of the chapter as the name of the file i.e. the first chapter shows up as 01-Only the Guardian. However, chapter 25 shows up at the top of the list as the first one in order. I clicked on Get Info and made sure it shows up as Number 25 of 27 tracks, and while my iPod is connected to the computer, it shows the list correctly with chapter 25 between chapters 24 and 26, BUT when I eject, then disconnect the iPod, and look at the Playlist which has my book in it, I am getting chapter 25 at the top of the list and have to move down to chapter 01 before I start the playlist. I have NOT played the book thru yet, so I don’t know if the iPod will move up and play chapter 25 after 24, but experience has shown me that the items in a playlist are played in the same order as they show up in the screen of the iPod meaning that the iPod will play all chapters but 25 and then will come back and play 25. I have even gone into my directory and right clicked on properties to make sure that each file in the book has the correct number in the details field… still getting the same thing after all of this (I deleted all the book’s files and re-copied them after doing all of the above).
I have had it do this to me before, and really cannot figure out what I have to do to correct the problem. Anybody got any ideas about this? I might end up calling apple to see if they can figure out what is going on… everything is correct in iTunes itself, but when the iPod is disconnected from the computer I’m back to having chapter 25 as the first one in the playlist…. grrrrrrr…. this is the one thing I REALLY don’t like about my iPod… well that and the fact that I got one that doesn’t have enough storage space… who knew 8gb would not be enough space? That! won’t happen again! Next time I get the one with the MOST storage space… <

Ok, I figured out how to fix this. I had been dragging the book chapters to My Music on my iPod instead of dragging it to the Music in the main iTunes library. When I did that, I was able to see that the Title of the one chapter was not quite the same as all the other chapters, so it showed up as a different album. I got the info on one of the chapters that was showing up as part of the complete book, copied the title, then pasted the title on to the offending chapter. When I did that, the second album disappeared and the single chapter moved in line with all the other chapters. I then drug the book to the iPod Music section, and everything is now correct. Seems like going around the barn to get to the house, but, I know what to do to make it work, so I am not going to worry about it any more. Thank you for checking, and thinking about what is going on. <

  • Help! Folder Windows won't stay open in the Finder

Please, what is causing this and how do I fix it? Some folders will not stay open in the finder. For instance, when I click on the Applications folder (either the actual or alias), the window will try to open, but before it can show its content, it disappears. This doesn't happen with all folders, only some of them. This is very disturbing.
    Please help if you can.

Through the network I was able to figure out what was going on. There was a weird file, its name was made up of Chinese characters. Whenever it was supposed to show up on the screen of this one mac, the window would close. I guess that particular mac isn't set up to show those characters. I was able to trash that file and that took care of it.

  • Rules won't stay in order

    HI,
Macbook Air, Mountain Lion up to date, I create a rule to take messages from an individual - then copy it to one folder and then move it to another. I save the rule.
I come back into the rules and look at the particular rule, and it has flipped those and since Move to the other folder is the first action, the second action never transpires.
I re-do the order of actions, and save. It reverts back.
    Any one seen this?
    Anyone resolved this?

The order in which actions are taken within a single Mail rule is not defined. If you need the actions to be done in a specified order, create a separate rule for each one.

  • Match playlists don't stay in order

Generally, playlists on my iDevice will play tracks in the order that I've set them in my iTunes library, i.e. if I've set the playlist in iTunes to be organised by 'date added' or 'year released' it will follow suit when played on my iPhone.  But some of my iTunes Match playlists don't seem to follow this pattern. One in particular seems to in fact list the playlist in reverse order..... is there any reason for this? How can I make sure the playlists on my phone match the one on my screen??

Sorry no one has replied to you yet.  There have been many reports similar to yours, buggy playlists.  If you have already deleted old playlsts and re-created them with Match enabled and you are still having trouble, you may want to explore creating playlists on the iOS device itself (I believe that's possible, though admittedly I've no experience with it).  It's possible a locally-created playlist will behave more in the manner you desire.

  • My Smart Playlist won't stay sorted

I have just subscribed to the thirtyfifteennorth (sic) podcast.  I created a Smart playlist for it, and syched to my iPhone.  Looking at the list on the phone, it is no longer sorted. What gives?  I have had this problem before, but it seemed to have been fixed.  I guess not.
I have rebooted the phone.  I have Restored the phone.

Sorting in the Library is a temporary sort, it resets as soon as you close the Library window.

  • Podcasts won't stay in the order I choose

This is related to another thread I saw on here. But my issue is a little different so I started another one.
I have a 2nd generation shuffle and updated versions of iTunes and Mac OS X (well almost... 10.4.9). I have reset the iPod several times and the problem persists.
    THE PROBLEM:
I drag over a bunch of Podcasts. They load on the iPod shuffle. Then I reorder them on the shuffle. After disconnecting and reconnecting the shuffle, the original order is restored.
I even tried reordering the Podcasts then playing one all the way through to make sure the one I wanted to play started right after. It did. But then after disconnecting and reconnecting, the original order was back again.
Something is wrong here. Very wrong. This even happens on my old G5 computer with a 10.3 OS).
Any help? Anyone else got the problem?

I have the problem too...but slightly different. The order that I placed the podcasts in disappears immediately upon my removal of the iPod from its dock. I'll plug in and listen, and the podcasts are shuffled up, even though my iPod is NOT set to shuffle songs. This means the podcasts were NEVER ordered the way I put them on my iPod. I've tried work-arounds, such as creating a playlist with my podcasts in order, and dragging THAT to my iPod. No luck. I don't understand how iTunes re-orders my podcasts; I see no rhyme or reason to it. They're just randomly shuffled back up when I listen to my iPod. This is partiularly annoying with podcast series, dated podcasts (best listened to oldest to newest), and podcasted audiobooks.
Note that this problem does not happen with music. Music always stays in the order I place it.
I'll join my friend in saying: Any help? Anybody got this figured out?

  • Apps won't stay in folder

I now have 3 APPs that won't stay in their folders after sync. I download, move from page 2 into a folder and all is well. Then when I sync, they are moved to pg 2 again.
    Whats up with that?

    Strange...
After the original post I decided to put the APPS in their folders then reboot the iPad. Once I rebooted the apps were back on page 2. So I moved them back to folders. Then you post came and I sync'd, I looked in the APPS view of the ipad link on itunes and everything was cool...no apps on pg 2. So I finished sync and checked, all was ok. So I opened each app and left them open while performing another sync. Still in the folders! Really Strange!
So I will hang with this one open for a few more days be fore I let it go.
Thanks for the idea! I had forgotten about that view.

  • Collection folder won't stay closed

I have a Collection set (with nested sub-collections) which won't stay closed. I click the twistie to collapse it, and one second later, it opens again.
Has anyone else seen this behavior, or have any insight into its cause?

Usually caused by a sub-collection (or sub-folder) being 'selected' ... 'select' a different collection/folder, and then it should work

  • When I boot up my Mac, Messages opens automatically. I quit the app, but it just re-opens itself. It won't stay off!!! I can't figure out what's wrong with it!

For the past few months, my Mac has been acting weird. EVERY time I boot up the computer, Messages opens automaticallly (I am runing OS X 10.8.x). I quit the app, but it just re-opens a few seconds later! It just won't stay off! I've looked it up online and nothing helps. I have no idea what to do!!!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Folders in Files Panel won't stay collapsed

There are 2 folders in my Files Panel which won't stay collapsed.  When I open Dreamweaver, they are expanded.  If I click the arrow next to them a few times they will eventually collapse, but then as soon as I open any other file or folder they re-expand themselves.  This first started back when I was using Dreamweaver CS5 with one folder which refused to collapse. A year later, I had updated to Dreamweaver CS6, and now had 2 folders which wouldn't stay collapsed. This morning I updated to Dreamweaver CC, and the same 2 folders still won't stay collapsed!
I searched the forum and found people with the same issue going back to 2007, but have yet to find any solution.  A few people recommended editing the Windows Registry - but I'm using the Mac version.  Several people said that they had some luck completely deleting the site settings and re-creating it - but that seems a bit extreme, plus several people said that it just started happening again later with another folder!
Does anyone have a permanent solution??
Here are a few of the other posts regarding this issue:

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/809937
Also - just as an FYI.  If I rename the folder, it stops happening.  I can close and restart Dreamweaver and it stays collapsed. But, as soon as I rename the folder back - even if I do so after closing and reopening the program - it starts doing it again!!
Not sure if this is related either - but I saw in someone else's post that setting Related Files to Automatically, instead of Manual, fixed the problem.  I did try this, to no avail.  I even tried many times to turn off Related Files (by unchecking the Enable Related Files box in Preferences) but it keeps re-enabling itself!

As Jon Suggested , try rebuilding the site Cache
Allow me to Quote another DW user
First let me add here that I did find that when I upgraded to the new Creative Cloud version of DW and it imported my 12.0 site settings, the problem followed those settings into the 13.0 version.
Im on a Mac so these instructions would need to be taylored to the PC in regards to the location of the file referenced. And I am not sure if it's even the same file on the PC. So I can only speak for my experience on the Mac.
I've fixed my 12.0 version and my 13.0 version this way.
It was a corrupted "Site Prefs" file. I tried to fix it, but the entries where so mixed up that there was no way that was going to work. So I deleted the "Site Prefs" file and let DW recreate it.
In order to recreate the Site Prefs file, it meant loosing all of my site settings.
    To make things less painful...
Open DW and go to Manage Sites. Select all sites and do an export of all .ste files, with passwords and user names, into a temperary folder and close DW.
Now find file folder called "12.0" or 13.0" in the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/12.0 (13.0 for the cloud version)/Sites/ and rename it to "12.0_old" or whatever. (Note: you may need to Option-click the Go Menu in the Finder in order to get the Library choice to appear).
Reopen DW and it will recreate a new blank "Site Prefs" file. Go to "Manage Sites..." and click on "Import Site". Select all of the .ste files and import them.
DW will update the site's cache the first time you open each site and it might also ask you to give permission to access the password stored in you keychain. Choose "Always Allow" for each one.
That's it. Now my corrupted folder doesn't pop open every time I click on another folder.
    Mac OS 10.7.5
    DW CS6 (12.0 build 5861) &/or DW CC (13.0 build 6391)
As I said, this worked great for me. But use these steps at your own discretion.
