Folder question - 320/322 for # of photos?

Newbie question here:
Most of my folders show the exact # of photos inside them in the Folder list on the left side of my Library module. However, one folder says: 320/322 instead of 322.
What does that mean?

  • Designated folder for syncing photos from my DSLR camera to my iPod was moved. Where has it gone?

After installing iOS6, I noticed the folder I had designated for syncing photos from my DSLR camera to my iPod was moved. I'm under the assumption it was moved and not destroyed because the photos have remained on my iPod and I have since synced my device. Where has the folder gone?

    I'm gonna punt....
When you synch, is your DSLR connected to your computer?
HINT:  The camera probably shows up as a removeable disk, and your pictures are in a folder called "DCIM", or perhaps a subfolder of DCIM...

    Thanks for any help.

The icon in the dock is a shortcut to the app itself.....for some reason the icon has lost contact with the app.......go to your Applications folder and drag Picasa back to the dock....a new alias (shortcut) will be created.....

Thank You. This helps me alot to get into the masters and to see events and photos in a utilitarian way, but it is not as easy as viewing the normal iphoto format to find photos.  Can I do something else or did I not do something right to not see normal iphoto in Time Machine ?

  • Can't Use Batch Rename "Rename In Same Folder" for some photos

Have a strange problem: when using "Batch Rename…" under the "Tools" menu, "Rename In Same Folder" is unusable for some photos taken with some cameras, not for others. For one example, I shift-selected a range of photos taken at a recent vacation, some with my iPhone, some with my girlfriend's Canon PowerShot SD450. Bridge renamed the iPhone photos, but not Canon photos. For another example, if I select a single photo taken by her cell phone or Canon camera, "Rename In Same Folder" is grayed-out; if I select a single photo taken my by iPhone, not so. Does anyone understand this behavior, and is there a solution?

Bridge Support Center in the help menu leads to a 404 error page.
Sadly enough this is also on my system (Mac OSX 10.6.8) It should not be showing 404 but it is there...
What Bridge help files and links, forums, communities, google searches do not do is tell you how to fix what happens with the problem
In general restarting Bridge holding down option key (in your case alt key) to choose reset preferences solves most problems.
Here is a page from Adobe Support about Troubleshooting (although this states you should combine option/alt with cmd/ctrl but that is not needed)
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/317/317912.html
I want to use Bridge batch rename to change jpegs into Mac PC compatible jpegs.
Although I have the option for compatibility with Unix and Windows checked in my customized presets I'm not really aware of the need for that. If you have a .JPG or .jpg extension as the extension a Mac reeds and opens the file without problems. I am aware that as a Mac user I had the need to take care of Windows files in the past. Before OSX a Mac did not need an extension to recognize and open a file. Since OSX is Unix based the need to use an extension is there and also you should only use one dot (.) in the filename and that is before the extension at the end of the filename. Using spaces, commas etc is possible but not prefered. In basic, keep it simple (and short) and the file will open on all systems without problems.
When you select a preset, the rename and preview buttons grey out. So I start all over...clear cache, check file permissions, restart/shutdown, etc
That should not happen, presets and batch rename should be always available, even if you have only one file selected. You should start with the refreshing of the preferences. Deleting caches and checking file permissions are not needed every time for clearing prefs (although it is wise to maintain your system on a regular basis, but that is good for the use of all apps).
On a Mac the user defined Batch Rename settings are saved in the user library / application support / Adobe/ Bridge CS5 / Batch rename setting. (not a single clue how that translate to windows but I have no reason to believe that such a file should not be present on your system.)
Enter the term "batch rename" in the windows Bridge forum search and I got....ZERO results.
Well, again a disappointment, there will be many result available in both Windows and Mac forum but it sure is not easy to find them
The forum search option is next to useless. I believe you should try to switch to the main forum page or something, I once had a result but after so many tries I forgot how I managed this (combined with getting angrier every try...)
I could really use some help because there is no way I can convert the number of files I have to make them compatible in MACs
As stated before, if the are .jpg they are already compatible
it used to be in CS 3 and 4 but since I "upgraded" to Production Premium suite 5.5 none of the version work.
If you keep having problems you might consider the clean tool option to clear PSCS 3 and 4. Check also this KB article:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
It should be possible to use all CS versions on your system but you can have only one version of Bridge active at the time. Upgrading from a single CS to a Suite should also be possible without problems but sadly enough everything that should be possible without problems is often only happening in the ideal world...

  • Question Aperture as a Browser for Viewing  Photo Library

    Hello,
I am been using Nikon's ViewNX as a browser for viewing photos mainly for workflow.
It is real buggy with Snow Leopard OS 10.6.2 ..... freezing and all. Use Photoshop for adjusting photos.
Question: Is Aperture worthwhile to use for Browsing Photos downloaded from my camera ?
I realize it has a lot of power for editing photos (like photoshop). But I wish to dump the VIEWNX as a photo browser.
    Thanks,
    John

    John,
Hopefully Nikon Software will release a Snow Leopard capable versions in late January (as mentioned on other Nikon-related photog-forums).
I too would like VNX to be solid and work better, and be a more user-friendly intermedium to manage some details while working between NX2 and Aperture.
(Gosh, as a sidenote, can those Aperture engineers make the nav panel fonts any smaller for some of us of strained eyeballs...only kidding Apple, only kidding.)
I do quick n painless edits on "most" of my photos in Aperture (still a newb at it, and just switched from a managed lib to a referenced one), and use NX2 to really pop those few pictures I manage to have composed well.

  • Creating new DCIM folder for iOS photos?

    Hi all
I've started a regular backup regime on my ipad and iphone of photos direct to my PC. Basically I copy from device to my PC's HDD via Windows Explorer.
I noticed about 5 folders under DCIM on there so I copied them and deleted the 4 oldest on my iPhone so that I still have a running folder of current few months of photos.
But lately I noticed the one folder I still have left on my iPhone is getting bigger and bigger and no new folder is being created.
This has now grown to about 10GB...
What I'd like is to be able to have regular new folders created so I can clean out the older photos in one hit.
I thought I'd do a wipe and restore on my iphone to see if it will change things.. But what it did was create another folder with a different name and all 10GB of photos still under there..
Seems this file system has a mind of its own..
Anyone explain how it works and whether there's a way to force it to create and store photos under a new folder on demand?
    Thanks

Same questions.... same lack of answers anywhere.  Here are some questions I come up to define this some more.  (3rd post in the following link)

  • Why does it take so long for uploaded photos to appear in the photos folder?

It takes too long for uploaded photos to appear in the photos folders.  I do not like the "new" photos.  I much prefer iPhoto.  Can I make iPhoto my default or am I stuck with this stupid Photos???  Editing is lousy, too.

Can I make iPhoto my default or am I stuck with this stupid Photos?
You can continue using iPhoto depending on what version your have?  Currently the only version that runs with 10.10.3 is iPhoto 9.6.1.  What version do you have?  Also do you have a backup copy of your iPhoto library made just prior to upgrading to 10.10.3?

  • How can I specify a default directory on my external drive, for iPhone photos to be imported to on Macbook Air?

I use both a PC as well as my Macbook Air and when I sync my iPhone with my PC (I connect the phone to PC) my phone (or is it my computer)? knows to import my photos and videos to a specific directory/folder on my external hard drive (I am able to tell my PC which folder to import my photos and videos to). For example, it imports all photos and videos to the external drive and organises the photos and videos by date (it creates a separate folder for each date the photos/videos were taken; I had to tell my PC to import to the default directory (external drive) when I did this for the first time, and it now creates a new folder for each date which is useful for keeping photos organised, etc.
I'd like to be able to do the same thing, using my Macbook Air, i.e., when I connect my iPhone to the Macbook air, I want my Macbook Air to know to import my photos to my external hard drive; is this possible? I am not familiar with the photo programmes on the Macbook air, but to be honest, I don't want to use them for this; I just want my photos and videos on my iPhone to import to the same folder when I use my Macbook air to sync, as when I use my PC to sync  (I use my PC at work and have my Macbook at home). I'd like to be able to sync my phone when at home and not have to wait till I get to work, etc.
Many thanks for any help you can provide...

Yes there are many, but the question is why won't the new folder create on the drive?
    What format is it?
I think you've not grasped what iPhoto is. Have a read of these

  • How do I specify folder and file options for memory cards in LR4?

    Hello!
I have read the sections Set import and file-handling preferences and Specify Auto Import settings in the manual. But they don't seem to answer my question. The other stuff that's written about importing files in Lightroom seem to only cover the import of photos to the Lightroom catalog, which is not my primary concern, although I do want them imported to the catalog as well. But before the photos can go to the Lightroom catalog they need to be improted, in other words copied over from the memory card to the local disk drive. Simply put, all I want is for Lightroom to take over the responsibility from Canon EOS Utility and behave the same way when importing/copying files to the local disk drive. How do I set up Lightroom to do just that?
I just want this type of folder and file structure:
    J:\2010_08_02\IMG_0037.JPG
    J:\2010_08_02\IMG_0039.JPG
    J:\2010_08_22\IMG_0372.CR2
    J:\2010_08_22\IMG_0372.JPG
    J:\2010_11_29\IMG_1405.CR2
    J:\2010_11_29\IMG_1405.JPG
    J:\2011_06_17\IMG_2887.CR2
    J:\2011_06_17\IMG_2887.JPG
    ... etc!
    1. First things first, where the heck do I specify the destination folder for new photos?
There is an option titled Show import dialog when a memory card is detected under the General tab in Preferences, but there is no folder destination option associated with this.
    2. How do I tell Lightroom to leave original file names as they are (i.e. IMG_2887.CR2) and place them in a new sub-folder (i.e. 2011_06_17) of the destination folder (J:\) named after the capture date of the photo (July 17, 2011)?
There are a few options under the File Handling tab in the Preferences, but they don't seem to concern the importation of files to the local disk drive.
    3. This maybe should have been the first question really; is Lightroom capable of importing files from the camera or a card reader to the local disk drive at all?
I sure would expect it to be able to do that, but from the looks of it I am not too confident about that.
For starters I would like it to just copy my photo files, either directly from camera or from a card reader to a destination folder of my choice, in the same fashion that Canon EOS Utility does it. I don't wat to just import the files to the Lightroom catalog and start working with the files directly from camera or memory card. Hell no! It's not an external disk drive for God's sake!
    Please advise!

I'm not sure how it is now, but there used to be a dedicated "photo downloader" in Adobe Photoshop Elements at least up to version 6. Is this still part of Photoshop Elements? Or is it just available in Adobe Bridge? I don't remember though if it only imported files to the local disk drive or if it also added them to the library/catalog.
I've tested Downloader Pro and Lightroom 4 now for importing the photos to local disk drive. I also tested one application called Cam2PC Image Downloader.
The latter is actually called Cam2PC Image Browser and as its name suggests it's a software for browsing and doing basic changes to the photos, an image organizer. But it has a dedicated downlaoder called Cam2PC Image Downloader that can be very useful for importing photos. It comes either as a payed version or a freeware version.
I also tested one called Smart Photo Import. This one could be a good alternative to Downloader Pro, but I think it still needs many improvements, and it lacks a lot of the functionality of Downloader Pro. But to be fair, this does cost half as much as Downloader Pro (13 EUR or 17 USD compared to 30 USD).
I am most impressed by Downloader Pro. It has everything I could ask for really. But I was most impressed by its speed. I've done a simple speed test to see which one is faster and here are the results.
    Downloader Pro
    324 files (162 JPG & 162 CR2)
    Max speed: 21,25 MB/s
    Time: 02:58.6
    Lightroom 4
    Set to render "Standard" previews
    324 files (162 JPG & 162 CR2)
    Max speed: N/A
    Time: 03:41.7
Compared to Downloader Pro: 78% done at 02:58.6
    Rendering time: 04:35.5
    Total: 08:16.12
    Cam2PC Image Downloader
    324 files (162 JPG & 162 CR2)
    Max speed: N/A
    Time: 03:30.6
The max speed is the maximum transfer speed that ever occured during the transfer, and this is not something that the application is showing on it's own, it's the highest speed that I have seen with my own eyes. Unfortunately the other applications had no way of showing the speed, only Downloader Pro could show the speed. That's why it says N/A (as in not available).
As you can see Downloader Pro did the same job in shortest amount of time. Note that I could be transfering 2 or 3 cards worth of photos for the time it takes Lightroom to transfer just one.
The memory card was full when I started the test. It was a 4 GB Sandisk Ultra 30 MB/s card. The card reader was a Lexar USB 3.0 Professional. Although it was connected to a USB 2.0 port on Intel chipset motherboard (Intel X38, ICH9R). The destination folder was set to Desktop\(name of the application) on a Seagate 500 GB SATA (ST3500320AS) disk. All done on a Windows Vista PC with SP2.
One way to make Lightroom do this job more quickly is to choose "minimum" as previews rendering option. This way it doesn't spend as much time rendering the photos after being copied to the disk drive. Now, I have not tested this but I believe that Lightroom can start a second import of a second memory card whilst the first one is being copied. I'm not sure how it would affect the speed though, and you would need two card readers for this.
I wish I could skip rendering previews alltogether. I like to leave adding photos to the catalog and rendering previews for the last step. This is because it takes so long time and I like to use 1:1 previews, so I like leaving Lightroom to do this job in the morning or over the night.
I have learned to use prests now in the import dialog of Lightroom. So now it should not be a problem if I always want to copy new photos to the same location. If this location is changed I can recall it simply by choosing my preset. This is very handy.
All in all, Lightroom is very good at importing photos from camera or from a memory card reader to the local disk drive. But it's now my preferred way of importing photos to the computer. Which is why I have decided to purchase Downloader Pro. Thanks all for your help. I appreciate it!

  • Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?    Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.

1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed.  Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See:  Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.
If you have enough iCloud storage.  But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.

  • Can't startup blinking folder question mark

There are similar questions in these forums, but my situation is different. My MacMini froze and I had to press the power button on it to restart it. I get the folder with the blinking question mark. I do not have any disks in the drive. I have not installed any new operating systems for at least a year. No external drives connected. I shut off and started the Mac Mini yesterday with no problems.
I tried the Enter/Return key; no response. I restarted and tried the Command-Option-P-R to reset the P-Ram; got the same blinking folder question mark. I restarted and tried the Command-Option-O-F also. I just keep getting the same blinking folder question mark.
So, if anyone has any suggestions, I will sure appreciate it!

It turns out that my SATA just wen't dead. I've been experiencing several power outages while my iMac still is running. I also noticed months ago that whenever I verify disk permission there are some stuff that is beyond repair and it shows red. I just ignore it thinking that it will go away and the inevitable happened. Good thing though I just have a few gigabytes of photos taken months back I had a full backup on all the docs that I have. I tried resurrecting my Western Digital 160GB SATA using Spinrite V6 but to no avail. BIOS from Windows can't even mount the drive. I've given it up. I still have a one last hope though to bring the dead drive to a data recovery company. And hope that they can replace the SATA board or the mechanical part with a new one on a clean room and recover what they can for a fee.
Is there any hint when a drive is about to fail? I did experience frequent hangings and endless spinning beachball from time to time also some weird sound that seems my hard drive is about to blast by spinning profusely for no apparent reason.
My 160GB SATA drive is about 5 years old. Is this the regular lifespan of SATA drives? Should I replace it every say 3-4 years? I've been using it almost everyday from Monday to Saturday. I'm considering buying a drobo so I can dump all my files without worries of being burn again by a terrible Hard Disk Crash!!!
I've re installed everything on my imac using the new 500GB SATA. Good thing that everything was fine except for the SATA Drive. I've bought an AVR and 500VA APC (Power Backup incase of Power Outage) so that I could prevent it from happening again. Also do you have any idea what brand of SATA is the quietest the most silent? Thanks for your help.

  • Any tips for optimizing photos for Flash?

I'm curious if anyone has any great tips for preparing photos
to be used in a Flash website.
I'm very familiar with Photoshop and I've designed many
non-Flash sites so I know the general approach for preparing photos
for the web. I've done a few Flash sites which are heavily image
based... no images galleries but just large photos used in the
    layouts.
In the interest of keeping the file size down to a minimum,
I'm bringing the quality of my jpegs down to 45 or even 30 in
Photoshop (this usually makes them around 40K +- 10K each).
Needless to say, they lack the sharp quality of a good image when
    brought down to this size.
Lately, I've seen some really great Flash sites that have
very large images in their layout The photos are very clear and the
    site moves smoothly/quickly.
So, I guess my question is two-fold:
    1) What can I do to maximize the quality of the photos
without compromising the speed of the site?
    2) As a general rule, what is the range of quality for photos
brought from Photoshop into Flash? (jpeg, psd, gif?)
    thanks for any insight!

    Is this typical?
I just exported a background image of bricks (which needs to
    look pretty
clear) and the export on my jpg was 61KB, my png export was
    361KB.
Should I use the *.png anyway? It doesn't look, to me, like
    there's much
    difference between the two.
I don't expect to have the site scaling -should be pretty
    static.
    TIA,
    Jon
