Folder recognition within catalogue

I have recently purchased a new computer and the upgraded lightroom from 3.6 to 5.7.I have 4 external hard drives 2 of them lacie and I think this is causing the issue. When I plug in the same harddrive to each computer(separately) the old computer reads lacie i and on the new one e.When I look in the catalog I can see all folders-in the new version of lightroom 5.7-  but 90% have the question mark beside them.Do I have to rename one of the  lacie drives to another name and if so should I do this via lightroom to keep the link? ANY help would be appreciated, thank you

The drive letter is I not I I, drive designations are a single letter.
I suspect you renamed it "La Cie (I:)"  which added to the drive letter that the system requires gives you the "La Cie (I:) (I:)" that we can now see.
If I were you at some point I would rename the drive simply "La Cie" by right clicking in Windows Explorer but this isn't critical at the moment.
As to a reversal of files now not being visible that were before, from your first screen dump we saw question marks by all of the folders and now we see question marks by only some of the folders.  Is this what you are referring to?  There were no folders that didn't have question marks in your first screen dump.  If you are referring to the visibility of the photos themselves that is another issue as you're not seeing the files themselves but Lightroom's preview versions of them.  Thus if there are photos that you can now see it is because Lightroom now has access to the files and can hence build previews (files within folders without question marks).  If there are photos that you could apparently see but now can't that is possibly because the preview files have been overwritten and LR can't rebuild as it doesn't have access to the files (files within folders with a question mark).

    Help with Adobe.premiere.elements12. Please
It would appear under the organizer tab that the photos are organised in the lowest folder in the folder structure within Windows Explorer.  How can I use the Windows Explorer structure to organise the photos within Elements.

In a situation such as yours, I tend to consolidate items into folders so I have folders of nice workable numbers of images, somewhere between 20 and 200 images. Now, whatever, once you've imported, do your moving within LR, not the OS! I will select all in a folder and drag into a folder a level or two or three above, and then delete the newly empty subfolders. I hope this helps a bit!
Once you've reached just new Imports of camera output, you'll be flying along.

  • /Library/Library..... I had a secondary Library folder nested within

    Hello all,
I noticed that I had another Library folder nested within my /Library folder. I examined the contents of the sub-Library briefly, and it looked like a copy of /Library from an earlier time.
So I deleted it. It was 5gb in size. No problems yet!
Any ideas what it was, or how it got there?

No. Only you can figure that out, since it's an abnormal occurrence. Maybe a seismic event associated with whipping the Spartans yesterday.

  • Script to get tab delimited list of folder names within a main directory

I need a script to create a tab delimited text file of the names of each folder within a specific folder. Haven't found anything...Anybody have an idea how to proceed?
    Muchas gracias!

Now that I think about this a little more, I'm guessing you want two further pieces of information.
You don't want just the name of the folders, you want their path, and you want to capture subfolders as well, correct?
If that's the case, try this:
    tell application "Finder"
      -- get the starting folder
set topFolder to (choose folder with prompt "Please select the top folder")
      -- get all subfolders
set subfolders to (every folder of entire contents of topFolder as alias list)
-- open a file to write the data to
set myFile to (open for access file (((path to desktop folder) as text) & "folders.txt") with write permission)
      set eof myFile to 0
      -- remember our current TIDs
set oldTID to my text item delimiters
      -- iterate through the folders
      repeat with eachFolder in subfolders
-- break the path based on colons
set my text item delimiters to ":"
set folderPath to text items of (eachFolder as text)
-- set the TIDs to a tab
set my text item delimiters to tab
        - and convert the path to a tab-delimited string
set tabDelimitedText to folderPath as text
-- now write that text to the file
write tabDelimitedText & return to myFile
      end repeat
-- clean up, restoring TIDs to what they were
set my text item delimiters to oldTID
      -- and close the file
      close access myFile
    end tell

  • Show source folder name within Aperture

Is it possible, within Aperture, to see where the actual image is stored on my hard drive? ie, the path and folder structure?
I would think it would be an option when the bottom viewer is set up to show the columns of text (rather than images)...
Or an option within File Info.
    But I'm not seeing it.
    Thanks

File>Manage Referenced Images... will show the file paths, but you can't see it via normal metadata.

  • Why can't I paste in the "Go to folder" field within an "Open" dialog box?

As title states. This is very annoying and drastically impacts my productivity within OS X. Is there a way to make this work with a script or something? If the paste doesn't work, why is the option even available? I personally think this is a bug, because I should be able to paste. All I get is the "error" sound.

Export the photos out of iPhoto via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option to a folder on the Desktop.  Then drag the folder onto the disk icon on the Desktop and burn.   Be sure to select the Kind, qualtiy and size of the file you need.

  • Installation of camera profiles and x-rite Profiles show up only in a certain folder of a catalogue

    Dear all,
I'm working in a Maverics environment on which LR 5 is running. I've tried to install the camera profiles for the Nikon D800 by copying them to the users Library/Applicaton Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Camera Profiles. After re-starting LR the profiles didn't show up. In a second attempt I tried to impoprt them with the extention manager which didn't work.
The second problem I'm facing is, that I've created camera profiles with x-rite. The profiles show up only in a certain folder in LR in the same catalogue. This means in this certain folder named shootings i can choose the x-rite porfiles. When I go -without leaving the catalogue- to an other folder ie. named sports, I can not see the profiles.
It would be great if somebody has a useful idea
Thank you very much in advance.
    Cheers Stefan

See the instruction below for the location where your profiles should be placed. If they are placed in the same folder where Lightroom install package places the profiles created by Adobe they will not be recognized.
Your custom Camera Raw & Lens Profiles should be installed to the User folders…
Lightroom 5 no longer uses the shared ProgramData (Windows) / Application Support (Mac) folders for Camera or Lens Profiles. Instead, it stores the built-in profiles with its program files.
When you create camera or lens profiles, they must be stored in the user locations listed below. If you previously stored custom profiles in other locations, you’ll need to move them to these user folders, otherwise Lightroom won’t be able to find them.
    Windows—C: \ Users \ [your username] \ AppData \ Roaming \ Adobe \ CameraRaw \ CameraProfiles \
    Mac—Macintosh HD / Users / [your username] / Library / Application Support / Adobe / CameraRaw / CameraProfiles /
For the lens profiles, substitute the LensProfiles folder for the CameraProfiles folder.
The camera and lens profile file extensions are:
.dcpr—camera profile recipe file used for creating/editing a profile in the DNG Profile Editor
    .dcp—camera profile
    .lcp—lens profile

  • Smart Folder searches within itself

After upgrading to SL last fall the Smart Folders started to misbehave in the following manner:
The smart folder set to search "This Mac" would after restart search within itself. E.g I have created a Smart Folder finding all Word documents edited within the last week, called "Word last week". But the folder start to search within itself, e.g."Word last week" instead of in "This Mac". I have checked and, after some days, the query delivers different results if I change back to search within "My Mac".
What can I do to force Smart Folders to search the whole harddrive and quit being so self-centered (self-referencing)?

They aren't searching "within themselves" but searching wherever you told them to. If you click a saved search (AKA Smart Folder) and then select the Show Criteria option, you will see the name of the smart search next to the "This Mac"--but it is just the name, it is searching where you told it to when you created it. Evidently the programmers decided something had to occupy that spot in the search criteria, and opted to have it display the name of the Smart Folder.
That said, there is a really bad bug in saved searches that involve date as a criteria. They aren't updating properly because the wrong thing is being added to raw query of the search when you create it. Thus if you want a Smart Folder that finds MS Word docs created in the last 3 days, it won't update. If you use it next week it will continue to search for the created date of files from when you made it. I suspect this bug is what is throwing your results off.

  • In photoshop elements 12 I try to delete a folder but the delete option is grayed out. how can I delete a folder from my catalogue?

how can I delete folders from photoshop elements 12. the option to delete is grayed out an I don't know what the alternative options are

Got it fixed!  The Folder was set to Open With Terminal!
Maybe when you moved it over from your other system, the Open With got changed?  To change this, in your Finder, select the iPhoto library from your User/Pictures folder and do a Get Info on it Command+I.
Then change the Open With to iPhoto application!
Then from the Finder, double click the iPhoto Folder and it will be opened with iPhoto!  WALLA it worked!

  • Show all files in a folder, whether in catalogue or not

New User to Elements 9 but heavy user of other photo editing software.
Have significant investment of time in a structured folder/file organization with thousands of photos.  Now having experimented  with the organizer, moving stuff in the organizer, moving files with Windows explorer, adding new files external to the organizer, moving files elsewhere as any user should be able to do,  I've got a total mess.
Why can't I see ALL the photos that are in my folder (or subfolder).  Instead the organizer gives (in folders view) what it thinks SHOULD be in my subfolder, but when I go to Windows explorer there are many files in the subfolder that are NOT SHOWING UP in the organizer folder view.
How do I get organizer back to showing what is actually in each subfolder?
Is Photoshop telling me that I can't move photos around using other software?
Do I have any option in Organizer to actually see all my files as they exist in each folder?

Now having experimented  with the organizer, moving stuff in the organizer, moving files with Windows explorer, adding new files external to the organizer, moving files elsewhere as any user should be able to do,  I've got a total mess.
Organizer is not a file browser, and wasn't intended to be a file manipulation software similar to Windows Explorer (although it has some of the same features as Windows explorer).
Because Organizer is not a file browser. It only knows about the photos you have imported. It does not know about any other photos.
How do I get organizer back to showing what is actually in each subfolder?
Import all the photos in the folder into Organizer.
Is Photoshop telling me that I can't move photos around using other software?
No, its not telling you that. You can move your photos using any other software you want, but it will screw up the links in Organizer, essentially making Organizer unusable for those photos until you fix the links (File->Reconnect). So while it is probably not a good idea to move photos using other software, you can if you want to, as long as you are willing to do the work in Organizer to reconnect.
Do I have any option in Organizer to actually see all my files as they exist in each folder?
I think I answered that one already
Bottom line: if you want to use Organizer as a "replacement" for Windows Explorer, and to continue to do your organization via folders, don't bother, Organizer is a waste of your time in this case. It isn't as capable as Windows Explorer. Organizer was designed to give you better tools (and different tools) than Windows Explorer to organize photos. If you want to use Organizer for the purpose it was intended for, you will begin adding tags and captions and notes to your photos and stop moving photos/folders from here to there. Organizer allows you to assign multiple keywords to your photos, but Windows Explorer allows each photo to be "organized" into one and only one folder. Organizer allows you to search in almost unlimited ways, once you assign tags and captions and notes, while Windows Explorer has very limited searching.

  • Link to other published web folder from within password protected iWeb site

I realise that you cannot password protect an iWeb site if it contains a link to an external page / file. However, I have a complex genealogy site that I had previously published to another site. I directly copied this folder to the iWeb directory alongside the folder for the protected site published from iWeb. I have tried all sorts of link URLs on the protected site page, trying to link to the genealogy index.html file. iWeb refuses to allow password protection or even point correctly to the site.
Does anyone know how to create a suitable link to a site folder created elsewhere?

I have a password protected site with a page that has a link to an ordinary homepage.mac.com page, with no problems. Could you provide more details on what is not working for you? Maybe putting your geneology folder in iDisk/Sites and linking to that would help?

  • Make content area Folder Names within Portlets non-linkable fields

We would like to only allow the administrator to be allowed link to content areas so as to maintain a consistent look and feel and not allow the user to leave Portal.

Thanks for the info, however, turning off the header region also
eliminates the "customize" feature -- which is something I would
like my users to have. Also, I think you may be mistaken (or
maybe I wasn't clear) about the approval icon. It does NOT
appear when a folder is rendered through a portlet, regardless
of folder ownership. It only appears when a folder is rendered
    as a page.
I am looking forward to the next release.
p.s. I see the new find feature has been added since my last
    post.

  • Document fonts folder missing within InDesign package?

Help - when I attempt to preflight my document, the document fonts folder is missing entirely.  This is quite strange as it seems to just happen out of nowhere.  I have packaged documents each day up until today with out any issues.  So essentially the final package will contain the indd file, txt file, and links folder.  The document fonts folder is missing.... Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Preflight and package are different operations entirely.
Assuming that you mean "package" (that's what would create the links and fonts folders), there's a checkbox in the window where you choose where you want your package to be saved: "Copy Fonts (Except CJK)". If that box is unchecked, then no Document Fonts folder will be created.

  • Maintaining folder structure within iPod

So here's how my music folder is organized -
    Top level -
    MyEnglishSongs
    --Artist_1
    --Artist_2
    GameSoundTracks
    --Game_1
    --Game_2
    SongsFromFriend_1
    --Movie_1
    --Movie_2
    SongsFromFriend_2
    --Movie_1
    --Movie_2
    MyHindiSongs
    --Movie_1
    --Movie_2
    MyTamilSongs
    --Movie_1
    --Movie_2
Anyway I can duplicate this structure? I am not liking the flatly laid out structure of songs, and I prefer things this way because I am able to locate the songs I want easier.
Also note, the songs don't really have correctly labelled ID3 tags.
I am guessing there's no way to duplicate folders exactly, but is there anyway I can similarly achieve the same? As I mentioned in my other post, I have a total of around 200 folders and 1800+ songs, all categorized only by their folders. Any suggestions?

You know that you can access songs on the Touch by Artist or by Album as well as by song, right?

  • "Exchange Server 2003" Public folder access within OWA

    Hello,
I can connect to my exchange server 2003 (I know I have to upgrade) with OWA through an alias (webmail). After connecting in OWA, when I click a button in the navigation bar (contact, rules, ...), it's working OK except for public folders. When I click on
public folders button, IE open a new window with this URL https://<netbios server name>/public instead of https://webmail/public. I googled around and found a thread explaining how this problem can be address by modifying navbar.js. But in my situation
navbar.js and every other files located in ..\exchweb\control doesn't seem to be access anymore, they have been replaced by those here ..\exchweb\6.5.7651.60. There is no navbar.js in this folder but a vw_navbar.js. I can't find the code I have to modify like
in navbar.js to to address the problem.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Chris,
This symptom can be caused if we enabled any redirection on /Public virtual directory. You can check the /Public settings and configuration files to remove the redirection. We can also reset the reset the default virtual directories as the KB introduced:
