Folder recovery

My wife accidently deleted a folder with numerous files in it. Is there any way to recover them or are they gone forever?

If you have not emptied the trash you can open the trash and move the folder out again.
If you have emptied the trash you will need to buy a file recovery utility. Try using an application such as [Data Rescue II|http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php] or [FileSalvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1]. Both have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. It is critical that you do not use the computer or even turn it on until you have rescued your files. Files only have the directory reference to them removed when you empty the trash and are still present on the computer. However, their space is marked as available to any other file creation done on the computer (even done by you booting the computer) and there is increased risk that your files will be overwritten.
Using a file rescue utility will also require you have a second hard drive with lots of available space.

  • Overwritten Folder Recovery

Earlier today, I was backing up my files from my mac to my external hard drive. I copied and pasted all of my project folders into the folder on my external. The prompt came up to overwrite and I chose to, being that most of the files were updates of the same projects. (I have a habit of backing up my files 2 or 3 times. I have to do it again, but I have my files backed up on another external as well as my Windows PC...unfortunately I hadn't backed up everything in a little while so its not on there) I've been looking for solutions all day. I know about FileSalvage and Data Recovery II or whatever its called but this is a bit different than recovering deleted files. I overwrote the entire folder because it had the same name but it had different files in it. Is there anything I can do to get my files back? Thanks for any responses!

    Hello Sally,
in this case and under the condition that you have already unsuccessful scanned/searched all positions of your hard drive with a file-manager, there is still that possibility which you should do as quickly as possible, without any other file operations. I didn't see your thread earlier, hope it's not too late, yet!
If you're lucky, some of your file are still intact on your hard disk and you get your file back with an "unerase tool", like Norton-Utilities. You could try Google search too. A (German) tool finds here: http://www.chip.de/downloads/O-amp-O-UnErase_13014611.html.
Before a file is deleted completely, the operating system removes only the first letter of the file's name. PHYSICALLY the file is still situated on your hard disk(s). The unerase tools can detect it and it draws up a list which will give you a detailed record of these files which can be recovered. Here a screenshot of my German "Unerase Tool":
    "Wiederherstellen" means something like "recover".
    Good luck!

  • HT4859 Replaced File/folder recovery

i dragged my document folder full of important files on to the desk top and when i dragged it back to the same place i think i pressed a replace option and lost all files in that folder. How can i recover please please help me

Check the trash, if they arent there, use Time machine or whichever back up utility you use to recover the files and folders from just before your deletion.

  • Where are my files from HP Recovery Manager?

I used the HP Recovery Manager to backup my files before performing a factory reset to correct a BOOTMGR problem.  The program said there were 55MB of files, which seemed right.  I backed them up to a DVD as it instructed me to and it took a few minutes, so it seemed to work correctly.  The factory reset corrected the problem, but now that I am trying to restore my files, the folder Recovery Manager created contains just a few files with seemlingly tiny bits of data associated with programs, not documents, photos, etc.
I have a Pavilion dm4 running Windows 7 Home Premium.
HP Tech Support refused to answer my question as my computer is three weeks out of warranty, but they did try to sell me a $300 a year protection plan with some laughable scare tactics about anti-virus software.  Unbelievable.
How do I restore my files?

How do I get the files back in my system?
If recovery exe is not present, you can use 7-Zip to unpack the .wim files on the dvd to a folder of choice.

  • The kind of help you get with HP Chat...it's a real good way to spend an hour on your weekend

I copied my recent session with HP Chat so people may see how inadequate out-sourcing to other countries is.  After nearly an hour, this professional tech agent thought it would be helpful to have me create a file in my C: drive to see if it got there.
This problem is a widespread problem, as I have found that many people are having an issue with their D: drive getting full even though their computer is new.  My hard drive has 6GB, and Memory 1 TB.  There is no way that a stay at home Mom, who only sends an occasion email should have a full D: (recovery) drive.
Some people suspect that this is a defect within the system, that it is letting in files, or possibly duplicating them into this Drive.

    kaeandcolesmon,
If you open the recovery drive (partition) it should only have a single folder (Recovery).
To make sure that your not saving restore points to that drive.
    See:
Start, Control Panel, System, System Protection tab. Make sure the D drive partition is set to OFF so that it does not save there.

  • My arrow keys start start repeating without touching them and a string of periods are displayed in an entry field (e.g. credential to log in). Or if I type an arrow key, they immediately start repeating in perpituity. It's like a ghost in the machine.

After the last OS X update (a security update I think), two things happened:
my iMac would not boot (gray screen) or if it did boot, the mouse wasn't recognized and I couldn't mouse to the PW field to log in - nor did tabbing or any keystrokes get me there. I fixed this by unpludding peripherals (back up drive), but know I can't boot unless they are unplugged and it makes using TimeMachine a pain in the arse.
My wired, extended mac keyboard now types without me, primarily, as far as I can tell, the arrow key(s). .................................... So, for example, those periods you see here are because I touched the right arrow key and off it went until I pressed ESC. Also, sometimes they just start going off on their own. For example, I can be in sleep mode and all of a sudden the screen will wake and the PW field will start filling with periods, just like you see above. ***?
Seriously, you would think that apple would have a response for this. I have searched their support site and NOTHING. I've seen some older threads on reseting certain things. Does anyone have any summer 2013 updates?

    kaeandcolesmon,
If you open the recovery drive (partition) it should only have a single folder (Recovery).
To make sure that your not saving restore points to that drive.

  • Can I use Azure Backup and Windows Server Backup in a Windows Server ?

Can I use Azure Backup and Windows Server Backup in a Windows Server ?
I want to use both Azure Backup and Windows Server Backup for two senarios.
For Disaster Recovery = Azure Backup to Azure Storage.
For non-Disacter Recovery = Windows Server Backup to a on-premises disk.
The non-Disaster Recovery mean a file or folder recovery, disk crash recovery, migrate to another servers.
The non-Disaster Recovery need the speed of recovery just like 10 TB recovery as soon as possible.
If I can use both Azure Backup and Windows Server Backup in a Windows Server,
Are there any notes for using both ?
    Regards,
    Yoshihiro Kawabata

    Hi Yoshihiro Kawabata,
    Thanks for posting here!
Azure Backup to Azure Storage and Windows Server Backup to a on-premises disk. These are two different question and can be answered individually.
Azure Backup to Azure Storage - Possible.
Windows Server Backup to a on-premises disk - Possible.
Can I use Azure Backup and Windows Server Backup in a Windows Server? Is a question.
I will check on this and get back to you at the earliest.
    Thanks!

  • HELP!-Desktop SW says Memory is Over-Capacity- Card shows "other" as the issue

When syncing my Tour that has a 1GB memory card installed onto my MAC, the Blackberry Desktop SW says Memory is full at "+94MB", which doesn't make any sense as I only have about 20 pics (all less than 300-400KB each) saved to the card.. no video, no music..nothing else, and whenever I try to take pics or video it errors out and says I have no memory available.  However if I look in the memory breakdown under options, it shows that the majority of my card is being consumed by "other".  My question is what in the world is "other" and how do I get it off? Like I said, I don't have anything else that I save to the memory card so how is "other" getting saved on the card?
FYI I have Mass Storage enabled, if that means anything.

  • Friend gave me used iphone3-we used it for 6 mos -now when we synced it to PC, our used iphone now has the contents of our existing iPod - lost everything that was on our used iphone!!  How to get it all back (we only care about home videos/photos).  Help

A friend gave us her used iphone.  We used it to take home videos and photos, and now that we synced it to our PC it has lost everything on it, and it has been replaced with the contents of our already existing iPod.  In other words, all our music, photos and apps that were on our existing itunes account (used with our IPOD) etc, have been put into this used iPhone.  Is there any way to get back all that stuff (mainly just want our home videos and photos back!!)  Where on earth are they?  Are they stored somewhere on my PC?  I feel so dumb for syncing it now, and very sad for having lost my precious videos of my kids.
    Thanks for helping!

  • Why oh why did developers think it's okay to automatically check AND gray out "form history" in clear recent history??

For years I have been using clear recent history to quickly clear cookies and cache only. I had already unchecked the things I did NOT want cleared in options. But the new update automatically re-checked everything to be cleared! I did not realize this until too late, now ALL of my autocompletes are GONE! Updates should improve the function of the browser NOT change personal settings! Plus they changed options so the place to uncheck what is to be cleared is hidden and painstakingly time-consuming to find. Please do not pull this kind of "improvement" in the future, leave personal setting alone!!!!! you just ruined my night.
