Folder Show View Options reset to default every time

Updating to OS X Lion went fine, but when I looked at my photos and video folders all Show View options were reset to the default. Even when I try to change them now they get reset to the default every time.
This definitely 'bugs' me big time!
Anyone else got the same annoying behaviour or has a solution to this problem?

You have permissions issues on your preferences folder. Could be anything from genuine file permission issues to security tools interfering to group policies or your account type limiting your user privileges. Read this and act accordingly:

  • Change the Show View Options' "All windows" default to "This window only"?

By default, all Show View Options panes are set to "All windows". Is it possible to change the default to "This window only"?
I regularly change icon sizes for various folders, but never for all windows. So every time that I use the Show View Options pane, it's an annoying "click This window only" process.

The default is for any window you have not previously opened and set to have All Windows as the default, for List and Icon Views. Once you click This Window Only and make your settings, then every time you open that particular folder it should remain at the This Window setting.
I find the default of All Windows really really annoying, but I am aware of no way to change this. Send Feedback to Apple:

It should be a user settable global preference, but it isn't.

  • I have a folder with 10 folders inside it, 8 of the folders will not function when I use "show view options".

I have a Folder with 10 Folders inside it, 8 of the Folders will not function when I use "show view options", they always default back the default.  The "show view options" works on all my other Folders in my system, even on the first two of the Folder in question.  How can I correct it?  I have tried every thing I can think of, even deleting the Folders & reintalling them.  For some strange reason the "show view options" only does not work on the last 8 Folders in the Folder in question.

Instead GarageBand recognize my keyboard and i can play normally, also, if it can help, those are the Audio and Midi Logic Preferences and the Controller Surfaces Setup with the keyboard connected :

  • "Show view option" and "set as default" doesn't work

    Hello,
I have my own settings in viewing finder items (like most of the users). Unfortunately those setting don't apply to iDisk folders, even after using "set as default" in "Show view option". There is any solution for this?
    Thanks in advance for help.

  • Show View Options (DEFAULT) DOES NOT work

I'm pulling out my hair trying to get my Finder "show view options" to default. This worked fine in Leopard, but in Snow Leopard, the make "default" option doesn't seem to work. I'm using an erase and install version of Snow Leopard. I've used Cocktail and SWIPE to delete all DS_Store files and still it seems the default option won't work.
I can choose my settings, then make default. Some folders will accept it and others won't. I've searched the web and see others with the same problem. Is there an easy solution? Switching through folders only to have different finder views is really annoying.

Thanks KT-- I finally got it. After using Cocktail, DS_Store Terminator, another app, and a terminal command, then finally a restart, all seems well. I finally have all of my finder windows to my default view.
I'll bet Cocktail and then a restart would have worked though, but I didn't restart until the last step.
    Anyway, it's good now.

  • Any way to set the Finder "Show View Options" across all folders on MacBook Pro?

Hello. I would like to know if there's a way to set one Finder / folder view setup (Show View Options) across every folder and sub-folder on OSX?
I don't like having to manually set up the "view options" for each and every folder from scratch .. I have 1 setup / template that I like and would like to apply it across the board to every folder that I ever open on OSX..
    Is this possible?

At the bottom of the window that opens in Show View Options there should be a button that enables you to make the current settings the default.

  • Problems with "show view options window"

In Snow Leopard when I click Finder>View> Show View Options. The window that pops up looks different form what is supposed to be, is like this. There is no "use as default" button.  I tried everything, restarting in safe disk mode, deleting all .DS_Store files,  deleting the com.apple.finder.plist form the Preferences of the User without any success. Can anyone help? Am I left with just having the re-install the system?
Thanks a lot for the help

Although the Desktop is sometimes treated as if it were a Finder window, it is a special case. And, in this case, the View Options window for the Desktop (which you have depicted) will not display the "Always open" choice, since Icon view is the only view for the Desktop; hence, there is o Save as Defaults button for it either.
However, if you open the Desktop in a Finder window, such as by clicking the item Desktop in the Sidebar of a Finder (folder) window so that the Desktop is replicated in a separate window, you can open the View Options screen for that 'folder' and have those settings available.

  • 'Show View Options" window colors is screwed up

If I open a folder window and then select Show View Options from the View menubar item I can change the color of that window. However, it will change to some completely different color after I close that window then reopen it. Upon closing and reopening repeatedly, it will keep alternating between my original color choice and the completely different color.
This happens if I use the color wheel to pick a color but it does not happen if I choose crayons for picking the color.
I have done a complete erase and install of 10.4.8 and with no other software added and the problem persists.
Has anyone else experienced this with a 2GHz Macbook core 2 duo running 10.4.8?
    2GHz Macbook Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm experiencing the same problem. However, I don't think it's defaulting to an arbitrary colour. Rather, it seems to be defaulting to the exact opposite colour (than whatever colour was selected) in the spectrum.
For example, if I set the background colour of a folder to red, it instead defaults to green (and vice versa). This is consistent for all opposing colours.
I hadn't clued into Crayons being different — thanks!

  • Show view option fail

I'm changing show view option to "Always open in list view" and also activating "show path bar" and "show status bar". After closing the windows everything is back to the old settings. This problem just come up in Mountain Lion after few days of use. What you think?

Could be a snarky Finder pref, try rebuilding them.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Drive information "Show View Options" incorrect, screen won't turn off

    1) Has anyone else had the issue when you turn on the "show view options" to make it so I can see the hard drives total space and available space below the icon, BUT it's not accurate.
I'll be moving large files and it says say "7gb" when I know I have more after emptying my garbage can. I open finder and the total available is like "25gb". If I do an information (apple + I) it also confirms my finder saying I have way more disk space. So I can only make out that the show view options for disk space is incorrect. I believe when I turn this option off and turn it back on in a couple days after a reboot it seems to read the disk space correctly. What is the deal with this?
    2) other question is that I like to have my monitor turn off after 1 min when i'm plugged in to AC. I would say 25% of the time when I'm plugged in it won't do this and I have to reboot for this function to work. If i'm plugged into AC, i want it to go black after 1min of no activity.
for both questions, this is a clean install of tiger to the newest build and I do disk permissions every week. But I still get this problem.
any insight would be fantastic as these are just small problems I can't seem to figure out without a clean reboot.

    bump?

  • Finder -- View/Show View Options Missing

I am going nutz trying to figure out why I don't have the "Show View Options" under the View menu in finder.
I did a search here and found what I thought to be the problem:
+ Re: Cant open 'Show view options' under View+
    +Posted: Nov 23, 2008 11:57 AM in response to: Joey Goes +
+This is the solution if the problem is that you cannot see the Show View Options:+
+Some kind of application that you installed, even if you don't know it did it, changed a setting in the finder preference file.+
+The solution: Go to home/library/preferences and open com.apple.finder.plist, then scroll to the bottom of the file and you will see and option named: ViewOptions-inmutable, make sure the checkbox is not selected, or that the boolean value is the opposite of the one it has right now. So if it has TRUE change it to FALSE. Save the document and use the CommandOptionEscape combination to see the Force Quit Apps windows, select the finder and click the Relaunch button.+
    +MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5)+
Unfortunately, I could not even find "ViewOption-immutable" in the file when opened in Property List Editor.
So, I created a new user to see if the problem was global, and the Show View Options was there for this use. So I copied that users finder.plist into the shared folder, logged back into my user and replaced my finder.plist with the one that was correctly displaying for the new user. Relaunched finder and still nothing.
    Any ideas?

Update: I got to the office and decided to check some of the other users in the office. Sure enough, all the other users in the office have the same issue. We use Portable Home Directories as network users. So I checked the Workgroup Manager and I'm still perplexed because none of the users have any preferences being managed. Is this a bug with PHD?

  • Show View Options Settings

    Hello,
On your Desktop and in Finder, you can Right Click and then you have an option called Show View Options.
I notice if I can my icon and text sizes for files and folders within Finder, but when you change it, it only changes it for what you are see as far as what you selected on the left column.
It doesn't change it for everything.
I want to know how to make all of my icons appear as the same sizes and so on. Not just what I selected on the left column.
    Thanks!

you should see a button at the bottom of show view options window to use as default. click it.

  • Show view options/Show item info - only half working

Used to be that all my photos in a folder showed the dimension under the name. Now, even tho I do:
Show view options/ and check Show item info, only some of them have the dimensions. And what's really funny is that the portrait oriented pix have the dimensions, but the landscape oriented are missing the dimensions. What's going on here?

must've recently done something to the Landscape ones...
actually, the workflow I mentioned was applied to only one folder of pix, both port. and lands., but now, even other folders are affected, ones that I didn't run the workflow on. If I go to iPhoto, export some pix from last year to a folder (saved to anywhere), same results, port. have the dim.s below, landscapes do not.
And now for something completely diff... So I have a folder of pix on my desktop I just imported from iPhoto. I see dim.s under the port.s, none under the land.s. I open a lands. with preview. I rotate ccl, then clockwise (back to original orientation, right?), save, close preview. There it is in the folder WITH the dim.s under it. What kinda ghost have I got here?
Just to mention, I bought a Touch. It launches iPhoto when I attach it to my MBP (so it can sync the saved photos, only when I have some on the Touch). Don't know if that has anything to do with anything. Tx 4 th response, BD.

  • Cant open 'Show view options' under View

Hi, I'm having a small problem with Leopard, for some reason I cant open 'Show view options' under 'View' on the menu bar. I've already tried to verify and repair the disk permissions which didn't fix it, Is there any other way I can get it to work without reinstalling everything (which is not an option cause I have too much stuff on my hard drive to backup) Please, any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Joe

This is the solution if the problem is that you cannot see the Show View Options:
Some kind of application that you installed, even if you don't know it did it, changed a setting in the finder preference file.
The solution: Go to home/library/preferences and open com.apple.finder.plist, then scroll to the bottom of the file and you will see and option named: ViewOptions-inmutable, make sure the checkbox is not selected, or that the boolean value is the opposite of the one it has right now. So if it has TRUE change it to FALSE. Save the document and use the CommandOptionEscape combination to see the Force Quit Apps windows, select the finder and click the Relaunch button.

  • Question Regarding "Show View Options"

    Good morning!
I have a question and I am hoping someone here on the Apple Support Communities will be able to assist me.
I am using a MacBook Air and have downloaded the latest iOS (Mavericks).  I have my iTunes application open and in the menu area, under "View" there is a selection called "Show View Options" but when I click on that selection, nothing happens.  Does anyone know why I cannot get the "View Options" to appear?
    Thanks,
