Folder size of Local Settings

The Local Settings folder of a user profile (OS:Windows XP SP3) of 8.53GB. but the total folders' size in the Local Settings is not even 1.5GB. Can any one tell me how could it happen apart from Virus point of view. Any hidden folders are there? - Thank
you in advance.

Unhide the system files and check the results.

  • Is there a way from where I can restore my profile from a back-up that I took from a folder (e.g \Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\)

    Before re-installing Firefox 19, I mistakenly took backup of my profile from a folder - C:\Documents and Settings\garan14\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and not from C:\Documents and Settings\garan14\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles.
    While installing, I selected "Delete the old profiles" option and I don't see any old profile folder under C:\Documents and Settings\garan14\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles.
    However, I have a lot of important data saved under that profile which now has got deleted.
    Is there any way I can still restore the data from old profile? (P.S.: As mentioned above, I have a back-up of profile folder which resides under Local Settings folder)
    I am in a desperate need for the help. Pls reply as soon as possible.

  • Create/run Report on specific folder size on machines?

    Done some searching but can't seem to get a suitable solution for this. Essentially I want to run a report which will tall the the total size of a folder, if it exists, on all my machine. "C:\myprograms\tax". It's not in the user context which
    should make this somewhat easier?
    Does anyone know any relatively straightforward ways of getting a report on this?
    Thanks!

    ok; here's what I did in my lab (and it worked for me):
    1. Create a new ConfigItem -- check the box about "This Configuration item contains application settings".  For this example, I'm going to name it "InetPub Folder Size"
    2. Detection methods, use a custom script, powershell
       if (Test-Path c:\inetpub) {write-host exists}
    3.  Setting, New, Script, String data type, add script of Powershell.  I know your script appended "MB"; but I think from the standpoint of what I'd do with the data (potentially) once I get a report out, I'd want it to be just a raw number,
    so if I had to do stuff with that number in sql or excel, I don't have to strip out the MB part.  You'll know it's MB, right?
    if (Test-Path c:\inetpub) {
    $colItems = (Get-ChildItem c:\inetpub -recurse | Measure-Object -property length -sum)
    $result = [int]($colItems.sum / 1MB)
    write-host $result
    4.  Compliance Rules; Value EQUALS the phrase  "Report Any Value"
    Since it will never ever return that result, everything will be a non-compliant (which is what we want)
    5. Supported Platforms: select all or just select the OS' you care about.
    6.  Create a baseline (name doesn't matter), add this CI to it.  after you add it, make sure you change Purpose from "Required" to "Optional".
    7. Deploy the Baseline on a (for example) daily re-run schedule to a collection--probably just a test box for now.
    8. Bunch of policy refreshes, and interactively run the baseline.  in the control panel applet, it SHOULD say it's non-compliant.  Locally check the report there, see what the results are (just so you see it working).
    9. in SQL Management Studio (might take a few minutes for the non-compliant value to show up from the client through your MP into your database, i.e., wait 15-20 min maybe), run this against your CM_ database:
    select
      s1.netbios_name0,
      ci.displayname,
      rooles.RuleName,
      perclientdetails.DiscoveredValue
    from
    v_localizedciproperties ci
    join vDCMDeploymentNonCompliantRuleDetailsPerClientMachine perclientDetails
     on perclientdetails.ci_id=ci.ci_id
    join v_CIRules rooles on rooles.rule_id=perclientdetails.rule_id
    join v_r_system s1 on s1.ResourceID=perclientDetails.ItemKey
    where
      ci.displayname = 'InetPub Folder Size'
     and
     ci.localeid = 1033
    order by s1.Netbios_Name0

  • When I download a jpg picture to Photoshop Elements Editor the file is stored in Documents & Settings/My Name/Local Settings/Temp but I cannot find this location on my computer.

    The pictures are attached to e-mail messages. I can get as far as Documents and Settings and my name but there is no Local Settings folder shown. Using MS search with the name of the file gives nothing. I use Windows XP and Mozilla Firefox. The file appears in Photoshop Elements and I can save it as a psd file but I cannot find either the jpg or the psd files to move them into My Pictures.

    The Local Settings folder is a hidden folder.
    (1) If the file appears in the Downloads manager (Tools menu or Ctrl+j), you can right-click it and use Open Containing Folder to get directly to it.
    (2) To be able to see hidden folders on Windows XP in general, try this:
    Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
    Tools > Folder Options > View tab
    Scroll down and look for the checkbox regarding hidden files and folders and unhide them.
    Hopefully this will resolve the issue. Any luck?
    (3) By the way, you may be able to save the images from the email message to a more convenient location by right-clicking the links and using Save Link As. (Before you open them for editing.)

  • Firefox is creating endless copies of C:\Documents and Settings\Catain Kirk\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\afbrfhnj.default\Cache ... how do I stop it

    I just installed 9.0.1 and it continually creates copies of C:\Documents and Settings\Catain Kirk\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\afbrfhnj.default\Cache ... how do I stop it !!!
    I'm running Windows XP Version 5.1 SP3.

    Hi,
    That is the disk cache of Firefox, where contents of loaded pages are kept for faster retrieval and it also helps to conserve bandwidth. To disable this: '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''Network''', check (tick) '''Override automatic cache management ''' and put the value at zero.

  • Why does Time Machine folder sizes exceed physical capacity?

    I have a MAC G3 Server Serving multiple MACs as a Storage, Media Server, and Time Machine storage. These other external MACs are all running Version 10.8.3. Only the Storage server is running 10.5.8.
    All of the extenal Macs use Time Machine to backup to the served Storage media volume called "Time Machine".
    The physical size of the "Time Machine" volume is 2.0 TB.
    Yet when I am on the G3 Server, and perform a "Get Info" on the "Time Machine" volume, and also the folder that contains the Server's backups, the stored capacities exceed the physical capacity of the drive to which the volume resides.
    The single physical drive is 2.0 GB and only has one partition called "Time Machine". In the root directory of this volume there is the one folder called Backups.backupdb, and a .sparsebundle DMG file for each of the remote systems that are bing backed up by Time Machine.
    Each of the sparsebundles are well below the dirve's physical capacity, but both the local server's backup folder (Backups.backupdb) and the G3 server's local volume "Time Machine" show a used capcity that well exceeds the physical capacity of the drive on which it resides.
    For example, here is the information from "Get Info" on the Backups.backupdb folder on the "Time Machine" volume when viewed from all systems:
    Kind: Folder
    Size: 3,456,930,478,415 bytes (3.46 TB on disk) for 122,254 items
    But the Physical Volume "Get Info" shows this:
    Kind: Volume
    Capacity: 2.0 TB
    Available: 169.92 GB
    Used: 3,456,930,478,415 bytes (3.46 TB on disk) for 122,254 items
    (NOTE: this is identical to the size
    My guess is that there is some sort of deduplication involved.
    If so, I would like to know the type of deduplication is performed?
    Is it File Level deduplication, Block Level, or Content Level?
    Also, is the deduplication inhererant on the volume (File System) level, or only specifically for Time Machine, via symbolic links?
    Thank you in advance.
    Jeff Cameron

    This is due to the way Time Machine stores files. While there is only one copy of each version of each file stored, there are multple links to that file, and each link is reported in Get Info at its restored size.

  • Folder size is twice that of its contents????

    Startup Disk > Users > Username
    My Username folder shows a folder size that is just about double the size of all of its visible folders.  I can see this when viewed in the Finder in List View with Folder Size Shown as my default View setting.    Any idea how I can figure out what is going on?
    thanks

    Topher,
    Before I saw your reply, I emptied my trash and that brought the folder size down to what it should be to match its contents.  I should have remembered that.  None the less, I did what you suggested once I read your message and here it is:

  • Folder size indication

    It would be helpful when in folder view to be able to see the size of the folder - I fill folders until they are a DVD-worth and then archive and create a new folder (DAM approach). Currently I have to go to windows to see the size and then back to Bridge to decide what to do next.
    A folder size indication when folder on Content panel + perhaps a right click to give properties etc. as per Windows.

    This is about as minimal as Finder lets it get -
    As far as I can tell that arrangement is displayed only when viewing the Desktop.
    Finder uses a slightly longer one for a window whose view is set to Icon -
    ...and the one I posted previously for windows whose view is set to List.
    In Finder, there is actually only one View Options display and it is live; what is shown in it will change as you change the view mode for a window, and also will change to reflect the choices/settings if you click on a different window.
    Perhaps Path Finder has altered how that behaves. However, try some experimenting. Open the View Options display, and then try navigating into a nest of folders. Try highlighting different things in the Path Finder displays - the name of a folder in a list, the name of a column display, etc. At some point you may be able to access the long form for the particular folder's window.
    On the other hand, Path Finder seems to act by changing how Finder's info is displayed. In doing so, it may also be interfereing with Finder's ability to present applicable choices in the View Options screen (perhaps because Finder is not coded to understand Path Finder). If you determine that is indeed the case, suggest you send a 'bug' report back to the publisher, explaining the problem and asking them to fix it in a future release of Path Finder.

  • Customize local folder for edit locally

    Hi Experts,
    I am running EP 6.0 SPS 17 with KMC on system i. We are running Active Directory in the company. We have a problem with users when doing 'edit locally', since they are defined as 'user'. They don't have permission in any of the folder on the local PC, except 'c:\temp'. When doing 'edit locally', the file is downloaded into 'C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\.......' which is prohibited.
    Do you know the place to customize the destination folder for 'edit locally', so we can place the downloaded file into 'c:\temp' instead?
    Thanks before.
    Best regards,
    Agoes

    Hi Agoes Boedi,
    You can force KM to save the temporary files to c:\temp by creating a new user specific system variable (under environment variables) with the name "SAPKM_USER_TEMP" (and the path "c:\temp).
    You need to close all browser sessions and start a new one after creating the new user specific system variable.
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.

  • Folder size showing for some, not all folders

    I am Mountain Lion 10.8.5.
    This is a common problem, but couldn't find any answers specific to Mountain Lion or my exact problem.
    I wanted to see folder sizes in Finder, which is turned off by default. I went into "Show View Options" and then checked "Calculate All Sizes". I then click on "Use as Defaults" button, which goes from black to gray when I click it.
    I would assume "Use As Defaults" would apply for the entire hard drive. But it seems to be applied randomly. Some folders have sizes, some don't. Sometimes folders will not have the size shown but subfolders will.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks to everyone for their replies - I thought that it was just me with this issue but clearly not. Also thank you to Mil_Prep and S2Linda's suggestions, unfortunately all three of my email accounts do not have a "Mail Days To Sync" option - I believe that this option only appears in Mail settings if the account is an exchange email account. Even if I was able to adjust the time period of emails to sync, I don't think that it would help because the email(s) that are going missing can be as recent as one day old, leaving all my earlier emails in the same folder intact - some of which can go back to the year 2002 for instance. I am still convinced that it is a bug with headers in iOS5. Last week I even had a related problem where I had a new email merge with an old email. The senders email address, subject title and date remained the same but the body of the text was replaced with an old email from 2006! Very odd....

  • Sort by folder size

    Hello every one! I have this script:
    $log = ".\logfile.log"
    $startFolder = "C:\VMs"
    $colItems = Get-ChildItem $startFolder | Where-Object {$_.PSIsContainer -eq $True} | Sort-Object
    foreach ($i in $colItems){
    $itemSum = Get-ChildItem ("$startFolder\" + $i.Name) -recurse | Measure-Object -property length -sum
    "$startFolder\$i -- " + "{0:N2}" -f ($itemSum.sum / 1KB) + " KB" >> $log
    import-csv $log -delimiter "`t" | export-csv .\TEST.csv
    $body = Get-Content $log | Sort | Out-String
    Send-MailMessage -From [email protected] -To [email protected] -Subject "Test Theme" -attachment .\TEST.csv -Encoding ([System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8) -Body $body -SmtpServer test123.test.local
    Remove-Item $log
    Remove-Item .\TEST.csv
    When this script done I
    receive something like this in email message:
    C:\VMs\Backup -- 0,00 KB
    C:\VMs\Vbox -- 82 874 750,42 KB
    C:\VMs\VMWARE_BACKUP -- 182 818,77 KB
    How I can change this script to sort by folder size?
    Not alphabetically.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Darkwind,
    you can do this, but it'll require some reformatting your script. I've done the honors:
    $startFolder = "C:\VMs"
    # Get folders
    $colItems = Get-ChildItem $startFolder | Where-Object {$_.PSIsContainer -eq $True} | Sort-Object
    # This one will do the measuring for us
    $fso = New-Object -ComObject Scripting.FileSystemObject
    # iterate over each folder and measure length
    $FolderReport = @()
    foreach ($i in $colItems)
    # 1: Get Size
    $folder = $fso.GetFolder($i.FullName)
    $size = $folder.size
    # 2: Set Properties in a hashtable
    $props = @{
    name = $i.FullName
    size = $size
    displaysize = (("{0:N2}" -f ($size / 1KB)) + " KB")
    # 3: Add to results
    $FolderReport += New-Object PSObject -Property $props
    # Sort results
    $FolderReport = $FolderReport | Sort size
    # Build CSV attachment
    $FolderReport | export-csv .\TEST.csv
    # Build body
    $lines = @()
    $FolderReport | %{$lines += ($_.name + " -- " + $_.displaysize)}
    $body = $lines -join "`n"
    # Send mail
    Send-MailMessage -From [email protected] -To [email protected] -Subject "Test Theme" -attachment .\TEST.csv -Encoding ([System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8) -Body $body -SmtpServer test123.test.local
    # Cleanup file
    Remove-Item .\TEST.csv
    As you can see, some slight modifications :)
    Now, just what did I change ...
    I used the Scripting.FileSystemObject Comobject to measure size, since that's a bit faster.
    When selecting the size, I built custom objects containing the information (Name & size), since if we want to sort by size, we need to keep it as a separate property.
    Then I sorted by size, and exported the result into a csv file for attachment
    I built the body from strings in memory - no point writing it to a file, just to reread it. (that "`n" should work as a linebreak)
    Cheers,
    Fred
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1
    Thank You! It's work for me!
    But this script first shows the
    folders from the small to the larger
    size. Is it possible to do the opposite?
