Folder view needs enlarging

Whenever I open a folder in finder and other applications it always opens a window that needs enlarging to see the full content of the folder is there anyway to make the size of the initial window open a larger view?

Are you sure you're opening up the same types of windows? Finder remembers your choice (test this by opening your hard drive, resizing the window, closing the window, and reopening your hard drive). But for things like connected volumes (or folders on your desktop), Finder considers those to be independent and will force you to resize them separately. Once you resize a certain window, though, you shouldn't have to do the same one again.
Once choice that you can make (and one that does default across windows) is to change your view. This option is available at the top of every Finder window in four icons. Try a different view and see if it helps your problem.
Does that make sense?

Within a PDF portfolio i need to link from a PDF to a folder view in the Portfolio. I am using Link Action - Go to Page View.

Please advise, am i doing this wrong, it used to work. I have tried several workarounds, with no luck.

There's an extension or two, or a combination of extensions which seem to be causing that in Firefox 6.0.2. One that has been mentioned is TabMix Plus.

Create folder view with files and tasks

Good day to you,
we want to support our software development procces with Vibe. What we are doing is, we make changes to the source code and protocol corresponding things in certain files.
We think in so called "releases" and every release consists of tasks and a list of changes. This list is held in an excel file, so I would like to create a folder view, which consists of tasks and files.
So far I could create a custom folder view with attachments at the top and a task list at the bottom, based on the task family.
The problem is, the attachment view as a standard folder view does not allow colleborative editing of attached files. You can only view and download attached files, but not open them via Office addin. Therefore you can not lock or version files, which is mandatory for collaborative work.
I would like to mix the file folder view with it's possibilities with a task folder view.
Any ideas?

There's no out of the box way to achieve what you're looking for.
Two solutions:
1. Your users would need to open the entry first and then click on the "edit this file" link.
2. You could code your own folder view or landing page element and build what you need.

Problem With Elements 10 Organizer Showing Wrong Files in Folders (In Folder View)

I just got started using Elements 10 on Windows XP and have had some problems with the Organizer. Once it was installed and had cataloged all my photos, I made sure to only move files and folders to different locations from within Organizer. However, now it seems to have lost track of which photos are in which folder. It will "remember" that there are 3 photos in a folder (in Folder View) and only show three photos in that folder, but they will be 3 random photos from a different location. Opening that item shows that thumbnail and referenced file are the same, so it isn't just a thumbnail problem. And looking in the actual folder with Windows Explorer shows that right photos. I'm not sure if I should run an Optimize or Repair on the catalog or if there is something else I can do to fix the problem. I don't need to use Folder View too often, but sometimes I do and I use it to reorganize the actual locations of files. Not sure what would happen if I did it now (with the obvious catalog confusion).
Any thoughts?

Image size. I have been scanning old 35mm images. Any image greater than about 8100 pixels causes thumbnails to fail - this sounds like being around 2 to the power of 23 but what a really odd combinatin that is.
8100 pixels? All of my photos are larger than that, and I don't have this problem. Do you mean 8100 pixels on a side? There is a known limitation in PSE that photos above a certain pixel size on a side cannot be displayed in the Organizer. I no longer remember what that size is, perhaps someone else can chime in. Scanning your images to be 8100 pixels on a side would be overkill for me; however maybe for you its an important thing to do.
I have about 10,000 photos in the catalog but need to load up about another 5,000 historic images, and we take about 1,500 images per annum.
This is not a problem for PSE.
I have played with databases, so if i can get into the organizer database (at least to do backups), ideally with Access, that would be brilliant. Any suggestions?
If you are going to play with the database through Acess, I think you will fail. I believe that PSE uses SQLite as its database, so you have to use SQLite to view the contents. If you are going to do this, work only on a copy of the database. As this is a long-standing bug in PSE (since at least PSE6), and no one that I know of has found a workaround, and people have reported that the rest of PSE behaves as if the photos are where they are expected to be, my guess is that the bug is in the way PSE displays the photo location in folders. And if that's the case, that the database is correct and its only the display that is incorrect, then there's really nothing you can do to fix that; monkeying around with the database itself won't help.

I agree with you, this is a shame that PSE has this problem and it has gone unfixed since PSE6. Your choices are:
use tags and captions and notes to organize in Thumbnail view, and not use Folder Location View
stop using Organizer, use your operating system to browse your folders, only use the PSE Editor
switch to Lightroom, which has a quality Organizer (called the "Library Module") that doesn't seem to have this particular bug, and in general seems very solid, behaves well and is relatively bug free. (Lightroom 3 currently on sale in the vicinity of $79 (USD) as the anticipation is that Lightroom 4 will be released soon)
switch to other organizing software, there are many, but I make no recommendations as I have tried only PSE and Lightroom

Why do my image previews in cover flow folder view option look terrible?

Recently upgraded to OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard and have noticed that image previews look terrible in the cover flow folder view option - work with image files numbering in the thousands and really need this option to work - dosen't seem to matter how long I give the machine to process the preview and can find no consistency in the file type or format the machine seems to have trouble with

~/Library/Caches. Quit all applications then delete this folder. If a normal delete doesn't work, do a secure delete (Finder > Secure empty trash {this will take longer})

Custom Folder View w/ Movable Columns

Viewing images in folder view

All of my images appear in the timeline however they don’t show up in the folder view. What up with that?

Click on a folder in the left hand pane. You may need to click on the small plus or minus icons to expand and contract the folder tree.
You can only view one folder at a time in PSE9 or PSE10. Earlier versions let you scroll through the entire folder location view.

Folder 'View' settings via PowerShell?

I have a need to copy a folder and make sure it is showing Medium Icon view. I had hoped that the Medium Icon setting was just folder metadata and would copy with the folder, but that seems not to be the case. So now I am trying to figure out where this
info is stored, and how to modify the setting with PowerShell. Given that the manual approach is not to right click on the folder, but within the folder, I am stumped in how to proceed.

There's a tool called ShellBagsFolder which can be used to determine which registry key contains the folder view settings, but I strongly suspect this would be different for each computer. There are a series of GUIDs that are also associated with the
folder (there's no human readable string that has the folder path) which you might be able to search for and find the hook between the folder path and the registry key so you don't need the third party utility as part of your script.

If you download and install it and run it, you can search through the list of folders that will be displayed, right-click on it, and select Open Slot Key in Registry to open Regedit to the parent key for the folder.

Text Messages Conversation View to Folder View : N...

Problem:     By default text messages are in conversation view.
1) Does "Asha 308" Support folder "View Flders"?
2) If yes then please tell the method!
3) If not then how can this feature be suggested to Nokia, so it can in incorporated in any new mobile software release.

There is no such way to view them in folder view and I see no need of a separate folder view as the conversation view was only implemented when there were plenty of requests for the same.
Its a good feature, allows easy chatting. Still, if you wish to leave feedback for the implementation of a folder view, you can contact Nokia using appropriate media, not here.

Folder view preferences

I'd set up view preferences for different folders. for example, I'd choose SORT BY "snap to grid," choose icon size of 64x64, choose an image as a background (for the folder), etc.
when I restart, all of those view preferences would be lost, and it'd go to "factory default settings" for folder view preferences. and I'd need to redo the preferences all over again. that was with the main folder only. but as of late, subfolders would lose view preferences as well. that I'd spend time redoing those folders to look the way it should be set up. I'm talking about 6 or 7 folders that would have customized view preferences, while the rest are just regular folder views (as with white backgrounds, etc).
any suggestions as of what may be causing this issue?

Folder view gone since last fw update

I am using my mediahub with a PS3 as well as with a NOXON2 as streaming devices. Ever since the last firmware update, the FOLDER view option is gone. This is awful, my entire collection is sorted by CDs, every CD is a folder, so I play CDs by folders and I have no reason to get used to anything else. What is wrong here??? Why was it removed and will it be added again to the next fw release?? Thanks.

In my Noxon (and also on my PS3), I have the options to go thru the music collection by
- Album
- Artist
- Composer
- Genre
- Playlists
- Title
But there used to be an option named "Folder", too, and that is gone. That's what I want back!
I have no Twonky or anything else installed on my MediaHub, I only have on it what it came with (the program I installed via the CD ROM I guess), and apart from that have only the folders in which I have the music stored. And I want to browse on my NOXON and PS3 by folder, nothing else...
Any other input please?

PSE9 and Folder View changes

I recently upgraded from PSE7 and it appears that in this version you can see only the folder you click on and sometimes not even that.
Is there anyway to see all the selected photos grouped by folder as I could do in all earlier versions?
Even worse, I had a small database with all photos in a single folder. When I switch to folder view (with all images showing in thumbnail view) then all photos disappear!!! Even though the icon in the finder view indicates that there are photos in the folder.
My databases have had thumbnails refreshed, no images need to be reconnected, and have been optimized and repaired.
In case it matters: Windows 7 64 bit with all updates applies to PSE9.

The 30 day free trial is an excellent idea. The problem for upgrading users is the difficulty of keeping things viable for the older version while actively using the new one.
Elements data is extraordinarily difficult to fix when anything gets messed up in the connection area. Trying to reconnect photos once PSE (every version) loses its links is unbelievable. The program is extremely stupid. I had an entire database that somehow had the "C" replaced by "F". The remaining parts of the file names were unchanged. It took me the better part of two days to fix. Any decent programmer (I am a semi-retired programmer with about 45 years experience) would have the sense to first assume that the device was wrong since that happens so easily.
I figure my problem was caused by my repair of a crashed disk where I had to restore from backups. The "F" disk was the source of the backup and data was put on C: yet somehow all links were lost.
Don't ever try to use DVD's as anything more than a backup either. Newer versions cannot always read the DVD's so recovery that is even worse.
I am far off thread, but all relates to using a free trial. I would expect links to be messed up in the process.
Also, the old folder view made fixes much easier - I dread trying to change locations with this buggy folder view.

I work in a Public Library and I have been able to customize the Guest User so that:
Homepages for Browsers are set
"First Run" personalization does not need to be done - esp. MS Office
Certain Apple Apps are suppressed (Mail, Contacts etc.)
Icons appear in the dock for software (Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office)
But Mavericks makes many more folders hidden and inaccessible than Mountain Lion did

PSE8 Organiser Folder View?

In PSE8 Organiser I can usually scroll down through all my folders when using Folder View. PSE9 only displays one folder at a time.
Today I opened PSE8 Organiser and it's behaving just like PSE9, only letting me see one folder at a time. Yesterday it was fine.
Has anyone any idea what might have caused this? I really need to scroll continuously through folders, which is why I am still using the PSE8 Organiser.

Deleting and reimporting the "missing" photos won't help. Adobe doesn't care enough about this bug to fix it.
