Folder view same as snow leopard

Is there a way to have the folders always open in the same view as was in SL.   I hate with a passion to have to return to a folder and have all my folders lined up across the page..... then I have to  press "show all" to expand the view so I can see the rest of my folders.     I hate this with a passion and if I had more money I would dump the Mac for something that is more "folder friendly".  I shouldn't have to search for the very folder I was just working on by using the "show all"  button every time I return to an open folder........
Would someone please help me here as this makes my Mac experience really uncomfortable.   I have been going through this for over 3 years now and I hate it!
Pleas help me find a solution ,
Appreciated, David

Turn off the Arrangement.
The "sort option" you think you chose is not Sorting. It is Arranging (aka grouping).
An arrangement groups files together based on some critieria.
You can also Sort the files within the grouping based on some other criteria.
If you just want to Sort, set the Arrangement to None, and set the Sort to whatever you are want to sort by.
If you open the View Options for the folder, you can see both at the same time.
In the Menu and the button on the toolbar shows Arrangement with an unmodified click. If you hold down the Option button when you click the button or select the menu, the options will change to Sorting option.

    Hi b,
    Have you restarted yet?

  • Cannot view pdf in snow leopard in safari, cannot view pdf in snow leopard in safari

I have a MacBookPro  Duo Core   that I just installed Snow Leopard on, Now I cannot view pdf's online in either Safari or FireFox. And I am getting  a message when I open Safari that it does not support community toolbar.

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Reset Finder show view options in Snow Leopard 10.6

Hello, I have been playing around Snow Leopard 10.6 and I am still unable to fully reset my finder view options to one style through all of my system, not just the top folders...
I have tried tricks that used to work with leopard like holding the option key to enable reset to defaults while in view options, but that trick doesn't seem to work anymore.
I have upgraded from 10.5 so maybe my upgrade is not ok...
    Thanks for the help.

OS X saves appearance information in hidden .DS_Store files. Any folder with "personal preferences" set contains such a file. Deleting the file resets the folder to default view (...and deletes any file comment, by the way).
To show hidden files and delete .DS_Store files manually, paste the following in Terminal, hit Enter, and then restart Finder (alt+rightclick on Finder's Dock icon > "Relaunch"):
    {quote}defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles ON{quote}
    Undo (Restart Finder again):
    {quote}defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles OFF{quote}
Another way would be this. Terminal, *Use at your own risk*:
    {quote}sudo find /path/to/folder -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;{quote}
This command will ask for your password, and then find and delete (and not "move to trash") any file named ".DS_Store" in the given directory (path and subfolders). It will ask only once, and it will delete immediately whatever (filename) you type after -name. For your user folder the command would be:
    {quote}sudo find /Users/yourusername -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;{quote}

  • ARD Viewing broken after Snow Leopard upgrade

    Hi all!
Most of our Snow Leopard installs went fine, however, one Mac mini is still being troublesome. It's a Core Duo Mac mini connected via Ethernet. Viewing or Controlling the computer from ARD console gives a black screen. Console.app on the client computer reports that AppleVNCServer crashes (see attached log).
I've repaired permissions multiple times and reinstalled ARD client several times. Remote controlling via a simpler VNC client works when ARD is set to accept VNC connections on the client.
    +sudo lsof -i :5900+ produces the following:
    $ sudo lsof -i :5900
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
    AppleVNCS 403 wildam 10u IPv6 0x03a921f0 0t0 TCP *:vnc-server (LISTEN)
    Any ideas?

Update: After having to re-explain the entire case because the last guy didn't write anything down, and after having to re-convince the 2nd level support guy that this is in fact a bug, I've got the case escalated to engineering, and they'll come back to me on wednesday next week (I can't, of course, speak directly to the engineer).
The problem presents itself with a fresh install of 10.6 and ARD Client 3.3.1 with a resolution of 1366x768. Symptoms are a black screen in the ARD console, with the text "Connecting…" flashing on the screen. The process AppleVNCServer crashes on the client at this time, see report over.
    I'll keep you all updated!

  • IMovie Viewer issues Post Snow Leopard install

    Hi,
I just fired up iMovie (09) after upgrading OS to Snow Leopard (newer iMac bought 4 months ago). I no longer see the project video in the viewer. The "raw" movies in Event Library play fine, but when trying to play the movie in the project library, I only get audio. If viewing in full screen mode, all is well. If i go back and press space bar from project Library, only audio.
All worked fin prior to the snow leopard upgrade. Anybody know what is happening and how I can preview my movies from the project library again?
    Thx !
    Glenn

Yes, we've been having quite a few issues since the upgrade, too. Now correlation does not equal causation, so I can't say for sure that Snow Leopard is the problem. All I know it that all this stuff started happening afterword.
Here is the thread in which I posted my issues, some of which are quite similar to the those of Jay_S:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2141045&tstart=15
Jay, the solution to your problem recommended by an Apple Expert seemed to fix things, so you might want to take a look. It's in the third paragraph.

  • Search a folder for items on Snow Leopard?

    Finder > File > Find (Cmd-F)
    brings up the Search window.
How can I search for items in a specific folder?
Tiger let me select a folder in which the search is performed.  How can I, on Snow Leopard, select a folder in which the search is performed?  What about Lion?

Navigate to the folder you want to restrict the search to before hitting Cmd-F. You will see an option to search only in that folder. For example, below is what you would see if you started from the Applications folder:
Instead of the default "This Mac" button, click on "Applications" to search only in it.

  • Previewing videos in Quick Look isn't the same in Snow Leopard.

Does previewing videos on Quick Look in Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard no longer allows you to use the two finger gesture to move forward or backwards in the video, or is it just me?

I can not do that either, then again, I never tried it in Leopard so... hope that helps

  • QT Pro 7 Export to web is not the same with Snow Leopard?

Before updating to Snow Leopard, I would use the "Export to Web" feature in Quicktime Pro 7.  The desktop option would give me a small file size with a resolution of 853x496.  Why does it now give me a much larger file size at 1280x720?  This is slowing down my workflow, please advise.

    Hi b,
    Have you restarted yet?

  • Online Video Viewing Trouble with Snow Leopard

I have a MacBook1,1 that I recently updated from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8. When I open Firefox or Safari, go to TouTube, and click a video, all that is left where the video should be is a black rectangle. I have only tried this with YouTube. Thank You:)

Some Youtube videos require a newer version of Flash than you might have installed.    http://www.adobe.com/ is where you update your Flash plugin.

  • How do I get Lion  to preserve the folder view I select?

I like to have different folders set up different ways. Some I always want arranged by name in icon view. Some I want arranged by date created or date modified. Others I want to see a list view. In Snow Leopard I could set the view once and then each time I opened the folder again I got the same view. With Lion I seem to get a random arrangement each time I close and re-open a folder. It is really infuriating. Is ther any way to get the folder view settings to stick?

If you're transferring to another library, why are you exporting to the Finder (which is what Desktop, thumbdrive and DropBox are). This doesn’t understand manual sorting from iPhoto.
Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

  • Saving attachments in snow leopard mail

I upgraded from tiger to snow leopard. In Tiger's Mail application I could click on the save button in emails and the attachments would be saved in my default picture download folder. Now in snow leopard's mail I can't just click and the attachments will be saved. I have to click and hold on the save button and then I have to navigate to the desired destination folder every time. How do I designate a default folder of mail attachments to be saved to.

What have you chosen in Mail Preferences/General with regard to the downloads folder? You should be able to make your choice there.
What was your default folder when using Tiger?
In Mail 4.x, the default may be the Downloads folder found in your User Folder (Home), but if you have any message with several photos, and in the message click on the Quick View button, Mail will create a Mail Downloads folder, and you could then choose that.
    More info, please.

  • Snow Leopard for those who bought Mac's in late August

I just bought a Macbook Pro in August and it arrived the same day Snow Leopard came out. What I want to know is there some promotion where people who bought their systems right before SL came out can get the upgrade for free? If so, how?
    Thanks!

You should be eligible for the Snow Leopard up-to-date program, which will get you a Snow Leopard disc for $9.95.

  • Snow Leopard still safe to use?

For some reason my mac always freezes randomly with Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
Is it still safe to use Snow Leopard for browsing with Firefox and emailing with Mail app?
    Comments please.

Excuse for my bad english (i'm italian) But i will try to tell what i understood.
I too use firefox, with snow leopard, and i think is safe i'm sure of it.
In the page of Apple support
    http://www.apple.com/support/sitemap/
apart from the new maverick that is the current release
than, as you all can see, under the voice of "earlier release" there are all the OS that apple still support ( and this means also that if there will be the need of a security uppdate this will come.
and together with lion and mountain lion they still support not only SNOW LEOPARD but  LEOPARD too, that is older than snow leopard.
Remember that Snow Leopard is still sold by apple so they HAVE TO SUPPORT IT!
When, by the end of february there was the world doubt of "maybe apple stop support to snow leopard" one day a went to ask in a Big apple store in my city. And they told me that all that things that the blogger was telling about apple that will stop support snow leopard was only silly things told to make caos...  They told me that snow leopard is still support by apple as we can see in apple support page sitemap, and that if others OS was updated (for security update) and Snow Leopard last time have not security update this was because Snow Leopard HAD NOT the need to be Updated at this moment. But if in the future there will be the need of an update that wlll come!
Those things they told me in the shop is clearly in line with what Peter Cohen told in this article here...

So i think we can all be quiet ad use our snow leopard withoud doubt.
The only important things for us that use firefox together with snow leopard is the hope that MOZILLA will go on to make newer version of firefox that CAN run with snow leopard!
Unfortunatly Mozilla stoped give version for LEOPARD time ago so stop to give browser news for a OS that is still supported by apple...
So i hope that they will not do the same with snow leopard, but i hope that they will go  on to give us new version of firefox that run with snow leopard for a long time AT LEAST till snow leopard will be supported by apple (but i hope even more!)
For this i already written to mozilla italian forum asking to the mozilla people "please do not stop to give us firefox for snow leopard!" go on to make us happy and give it to us for a long time!

  • Bootcamp with Snow Leopard and Windows XP

    Hello
Previously I had used Bootcamp in a 27" iMac to install Windows XP Home for the purpose of installing Empire Total War and playing it. This all went ahead smoothly with no problems. I sold the iMac a while ago, having first removed Windows and reformatted the hard drive.
I have a Mac Pro bought in 2008 (Model identifier: MacPro3,1 ; 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) which shipped with Leopard. I have just ungraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (with software update online) and partitioned the main drive with Bootcamp. I then attempted to install the same Windows XP, which all seemed to be going well (I put it on the Bootcamp partition) until it came to restart the Mac Pro after installation. This then came up as a Disc Error and I could only shut down by holding the start button in. I have now removed the Windows partition with Bootcamp Assistant.
As this all worked perfectly with the iMac, Windows XP and same OSX Snow Leopard I don't understand why it wouldn't work on the older Mac Pro. Although, having said this, the instructiond did only mention newer versions of Windows - 7 and possibly 8.
Can anyone tell me please, is there a way of making this work with WIndows XP (as it worked before with the iMac) or do I have to buy Windows 7 to make it work?
Thanks in anticipation of your help.
