Folders all messed up on import

Two things:
first, anyone who hasn't imported yet, make sure you unplug peripherals that may have a backup. My import seemed to choose folders randomly from either the real library or one of two or three different backups (some just references to folders that aren't even there any more)
second, with the folders listed down the left panel, the file names given by LR are too long to see all of them. That makes it impossible to IMPORT the correct folder in the place of a wrong one.
as an example of the import
i have four folders
lacie 2005-03 (5 items)
HD 2005-03 (0 items)
WD 500 2005-03 (355 items)
so, I have to go to the lacie (which is what it's supposed to be) and import the actual image folder from teh lacie drive (end result is 360 items) and then delete the other two. Quite a pain.
A final note - when doing the fresh import of teh correct folder, LR has crashed at least four or five times.

The file navigator will appear.
Navigate to the parent folder of your pictures and choose the folder.
Lightroom will put the folders in the right place now.
do i have to do this one folder at a time (there is no "parent" directory in the left panel. I could do a select all for the folders and then choose my lightroom/photos directory, but want to make sure that's what the FAQ is saying,

Access rights folders all messed up: HELP

*First the good news:*
A few days ago I picked up my new (2008 model) iMac. Yeah baby!
*Yep now the bad news:*
Because I allready have an MacBook I started migrating all kind off content to my iMac. I started out creating two accounts for my girlfriend and me. Then used my Time Machine backup to restore all kinds of files foto's etc to my iMac.
Because TimeMachine puts al these files in the account from my MacBook I copied everything from that account to my 2 new accounts and when I didn't have access I just added me with read and write access to the folders true the info pane.
(Yep I'm a Windows user and didn't know anything about the Unix way of live)
So what happens now is that when I move a file/folder it doens't move it, it copies the file. Some files/folders even ask for a password when copying. When I try to delete them I also have to putt in a password. ARGRHGRHRGH
(In finder it says: com.apple.desktopservices)
For Example:
Rights folder Pictures:
Marketeer (Me) Read and Write
Staff Read and Write
everyone No Access
But a picture in this folder
Everyone Custom
(Unknown) Read and Write
Marketeer (Me) Read and Write
Staff Read and Write
everyone Only read
I tried the disktools and to restore access rights but this didn't work and it keeps giving the same errors.
Can I fix this? Or should I just start over, copy all my files to a FAT32 external windows disk delete my accounts en import everything back?

IPhoto folders are all messed up and my pics arent showing up correctly..

I tampered with the iPhoto folders...I renamed files and moved things around thinking I was organizing things.. but now my photos in iPhoto arent working correctly. Some photos show a thumbnail but dont open.. and all I get is a gray screen with an exclamation mark. Other photos open but at very poor quality.. around 32KB instead of the 1.6 MB that they should be!
What can I do to fix this problem?
Also, my computer seems to have 5 copies of all my photos. One copy that is the original... another that is smaller and then more random copies. How can I get rid of those copies.. I've got like 2,000 of them! Ahhh..
Somebody please help! Any suggestions??

About the iPhoto Library folder
#2 It seems you moved photos around and some thumbnail photos from the Data folder were put in the originals folder (photos open at 32k) and the ones missing (renamed by you). This is how it is supposed to be in the Finder;

As you can see the structure is now related to rolls. Rolls are created for each folder you import and each import session from a camera.
It is very easy to change the names of film rolls within iPhoto to make them easier to find images within. Open the info panel in iPhoto by clicking on the "i" icon. Once it is opened, click on the roll title in the viewing window.
Click on the word "title" in the info pane and type in your new title. I like to use a date and text format such as 12/25/05 Christmas at Mom's, 1/05/06 my birthday, etc. Once the roll names are changed within iPhoto, they are also changed within the Finder, making it easy to locate an image.
When importing from a camera, make sure you name the roll with a date and text before the import.
There is no way to recover from this except to start over with just the original files. This would entail creating a new library, going through the old library and finding all the full sized images and deleting the thumbnail images
#3 Here are the instructions for creating a new library. BUT remember that in your case it is not as simple as importing the Originals folder again as you moved photos around and in and out of the wrong folders. You are going to have to find all the originals and delete the smaller thumbnails of the same name (unless the originals were overwritten by the thumbnails when you moved photos around because an image has the same name in all the folders (Data, Original and Modified).
close iPhoto
-drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
-launch iPhoto and create a new library
-double click the iPhoto Library folder on the desktop to open it
-the two main folders you will need to import are the Original folder and the Modified folder (only if you want to import the edited images).
-the Originals folder has all your originals photos unedited. the Modified folder has all images that you have edited, rotated, cropped, etc.
-Drag these two folders to the desktop
-If you want to save the edited image, find it in the roll in the Modified folder and drag it into the roll of the same name in the Originals folder. It will replace the originals and now will be the original.
-If you don't care to save any edited images, then don't import the Modified folder into iPhoto or don't bother replacing the edited image with the original image like I just described.
-If you import the Originals folder into iPhoto you will have all your originals in their named rolls.
-If you import the Originals and Modified folders into iPhoto, you will have all of the being in the originals folder in the finder. The roll with the same name as the other will have a _1 appended to it's name (in the finder)
-the roll from the originals will be next to the same roll from the Modified folder within iPhoto. You can then delete any of the images from there if you want.
I know this might sound confusing but it really isn't.
Get back if any of this sounds like something you might want to do.

My folders/apps all messed up/missing after upgrade

So I was able to get my music and all other stuff back on after the upgrade (they didn't work right off). Now my folders are all messed up. I rearranged it all on Itunes, synced again and that was a wasted hour! It went right back to the way just post upgrade.
So I did a restore to the morning before the update and its still not right. I can live with them not in folders, but a LOT are not showing on the phone, (though they do in Itunes). In Itunes they are scattered amongst 11 pages, but on the phone its mostly bare folders and only 3 pages.

A call to Apple had no help, other than to restore all the way to factory settings. Didn't help. The apps are still spread amongst 11 pages in Itunes,and when I try to sync, it seems to sync from the phone. Not from Itunes. The phone only shows about 4 pages. Sometimes it adds new apps from previous try. If I download them again it seems to stick. Some are paid for and Apps wants me to pay again.

I do not remember what version of OS it was. I have carbonite back up but I am not sure it backed up my e-mail.

Photo order is all messed up with IOS 6. This used to work in IOS 5.

With IOS 6.0, the order in which photos are displayed on iphone and ipad is all messed up.
In iPhoto, you see them sorted by date taken. When you sync this with itunes and view them on ipad/iphone, they show up in the wrong order (sorted by date modified).
This used to work in IOS 5.0. Apple has changed something in IOS 6.0 and I hate it.

Same issue here. What i´ve realized is that the photos are only sorted wrong in event folders. Sorting is correct in the overall photo archive. This is really annoying.

hello trailfac67, well I am also new to Mac but I have 5000 song it .....and also audio book, the trick is that when you download it select them all before import , say no when ask to download them and highlight them all in blue and then you go to : file and then to : get info ,then select: options tab and then go to: gapless album and scroll to select yes and it shoul check it automaticaly if not check gapless album. this will keep all your audio chapters in order like they should. you can do this also if you already have import them, just highlight them all and do the same as I said on top. well it work well for me so you should be ok too. sorry if i spell wrong...I am french.! but my itune is in english. let us know if it work for you also, bye salut lulu

Playlist folders dont read correctly after import

On a new MacBkAir I transferred all my music files and then imported the Musicl library (.xml) and the playlists came through pretty well (about 10% I needed to hand enter the music files). But the folders - all of them an I have about 75 dividing up my music all came up with the list of ALL the music, and I can't erase them to hand enter them if I wanted to. On my other machine, clicking on the folder just showed the playlists in that category, now is all fof them.
Any ideas how to get the folders to show what's in them?

"Copying" them when you drag them means OSX thinks (or they really are) on a different drive from your home dir.
When you Command-I the file or folder it should show the path. And while you can change some ownership in that dialog, you cannot change everything (ACL).
So, if you find its path, open terminal and RM it!
Have you rebooted it yet? should not matter,but ya never know.

I have Iphoto '09, version 8.1.2 (424). I am having an identical problem. All my pictures are imported into Iphoto when I downloaded them from my camera. Until recently, I thought that the pictures were actually saved in the library. Since I need to crop my pictures for the web, and Iphoto doesn't do that, I purchased Photoshop Elements to do that. To my surprise, when I try to get a picture from Iphoto to Photoshop, it can't be done. That was when I realized, after wasting a lot of time, that the photos are not in the Iphoto library.
I started naming the pictures on Iphoto so I had a recognizable file name to open on Photoshop. Couldn't find it. I looked in the Backup folder and the Transfer software folder (I have a Nikon camera), and the names I entered in the Iphoto display, could not be found.
When I am trying to upload a photo to the web, I get the Finder folder showing with an active folder called "Photos" under "Media", which only displays Iphoto and PhotoBooth. This is a folder name that I cannot find in my HD anywhere when I look for it. If I edit a picture with Photoshop, I am not going to save it back to Iphoto (not sure whether it will work properly). How do I get my folder of edited photos to show when I want to upload a picture to the web?
Where (the name of the folder) do I find the pictures I see displayed on the Iphoto library, including any name changes, keywords added, and so on?

The font i used in my KEYNOTE presentation is not available when you upload it to the cloud. So, now my text boxes are all messed up. How can I select ALL font boxes of presentation and change (at least) the font style?

I have a large presentation that I need to access from the cloud THIS SATURDAY. Now, after uploading from my iMac to Cloud, the font is all messed up because the font I selected on my mac is NOT available on the Keynote Cloud....so capitalization is wrong, inconsistent, etc.

Well, you sink everything on your 3GS onto your laptop/computer. Then you reset your iPhone 4. When you are restarting it, add all those apps music (ect) On to it. It seems difucult but for more info call Apple. I did that and he lead me step by step on how to do it. Well hope this helped~~

The iPad was bought in mid-June, but I did not get extended Apple-Care warranty on it. Any idea of what's happenening?

Multiple means how many? If only 2 or 3, they could all be faulty. Try the headphones in some other device, to make sure they are OK. Or there could be something wrong with the headphone port.
Your iPad is still covered by the 1-year warranty so you should make a Genius appointment and have it looked at.
Another thing to try is to plug in the headphone jack a few times in succession to see if it frees up something inside the port.

OTL Time Cards to PA Integration. - All Time cards are imported into One OU

At our site, we have implemented OTL to support PA. (No Payroll/HRMS).
We have created multiple selfservice Time Resp for each Operating Units. The MO Operating Unit for the responsibility is set to corresponding OU for each responsibility.
The issue is that,
When the Time cards are approved and the PRC: Transaction Import is ran for each operating unit (again difft responsibility for each OU), it is not importing the time cards into the respective OU in PA. Rather When we run the PRC: Transaction Import in US operating unit, all the Timecards are imported in the US OU.
We found, For all the OTL time cards, the ATTRIBUTE1 for the "SECURITY" Attribute category is 84 (which is US OU) in hxc_time_attributes table.
which configruation controls this ? Why the MO: Operating Unit is not used to populate the value or is there any other profile which needs to be set to get the right OU?
Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Please check and confirm whether you have the profile 'HR:Business Group' set to corresponding BGs for the respective time entry responsibilities.

Illustrator bug- menu bar all messed up, and it keeps crashing

I have the weirdest bug on my trial version- the menu bar on top appears with $$$ signs and all messed up, and crashes constantly. I tried to delete and reinstall illustrator (I downloaded a trial version of the basic creative suite with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, but had the bug only on Illustrator. I even reinstalled Leopard (and in the first installation it was a brand new iMac), which also did not help, so I have no idea what to do. Has anyone else had the problem or knows what to do?

i had continual illustrator cs4 freezes in relation to the menus and some file types as well. (win 7 prof 64 bit)
But I found it it worked in a newly created user profile fine.
After having shelled out 3500.- eur for the masters colletion, I was rather dissapointed to find that i have to dig into my pocket for support when the software breaks. The solution is pretty simple assumabley known and could have been answered in two lines of text instead of the useless prefab answers i got.
But first I have to join the general gripe about the stability of illustrator and flash in paticular. It is obvious that each product is created by different teams who do not share common standards. Inexplicable.

I solved the problem by replacing the entire settings folder with the one from the functional profile
C:\Users\user-name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings
save any custom color sets, etc first.
three days of hair pulling for a 12 second solution.

Ms word formatting all messed up in Pages

Hi all.
I am using the iPad2 with Pages to edit and print from my iPad.
I am typically opening email attachments in this case an MS Word document only to find that the formatting is all messed up.
This is not restricted to this one document, but many.
Anyone know what I can do about this ?
I would have attached an example but cannot find a way of adding an attachment here for you to look at.
