Folders Gone?

I was in MACINTOSH HD > USER > PICTURES
I created a new folder called "wallpapers" and put all my wallpapers that were in the PICTURES folder in there. After doing this all other folders disappeared from the PICTURES folder including the iPhoto folder.
Well in thumbnail view I cannot see anything in the PICTURES folder, but in list or column view I see all the folders including my iPhoto folder.
Not sure what setting I changed (or how I changed it).
Please help...

Insert your install disc number one. Go to the apple, then to system preferences, then to the start up disc. Select the install disc one as your start up disc and click restart. Click the arrow at the select language area. Up at the top of the screen click where it says utilities ( if you don't see a utilities area, click where it says installer and then open disc utility) click on the mac HD icon and click repair disc, after that's done click repair disc permissions. You've just checked and repaired your operating system. Click installer, quit installer, then yes, then click the "start up disc" option. Select the "mac os x on mac hd" folder and click restart. You should be good to go after that.

  • Mail folders gone?

Well, did the Lion. Lion might have done me. All my mail folders are gone. Any ideas?

Sorry, I rushed it...! They are all there, I just missed the button to let them show - that one is invisible and becomes usable only on hovering!
    So long...! :-)

  • All Mac Mail Folders GONE

When I started up my MacPro today, all my 100  MacMail folders are gone! Only got the messages in my In-box, the rest of all folders in the left bar just vanished. What happened, anyone??

Have you changed any account information in the Internet Accounts panel? I had odd behaviour and lost mail so I reinstalled and let migration handle the accounts. That seems to have fixed the problem. Now I'm not touching the internet accounts or Mail's accounts preferences (at least until 10.9.1).
BTW, my Console.app showed errors (null pointers) traversing mailboxes. Perhaps have a look in your Console, clear the display and then start Mail.app. See if there are any errors reading mail. You might need to start fresh.
The only problem I'm currently experiencing is imap synching for 10 minutes every time Mail starts up, despite my having set "check mail" to manual. I'm not sure if that's normal for IMAP accounts, but Snow Leopard didn't spend all its time re-synchronizing.

  • HELP N82 Menu folders gone

Today I was using my garmin xt satnav on my phone when it crashed and the phone froze up. When I turned the phone off and then on it loaded up and the folders such as "Office" "Applications" and others where all gone and the apps and office apps where all just in the main menu. I have created the folders again but they dont have the animations that the original folders had. Anyone know how to get these folders back?
    Any help is much appreciated
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The only way to get the proper folders back is to do a hard reset. Make sure you backup anything you want to keep.
    Hard reset:
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
    3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone.
    4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers!

  • Clean install of Lion, sync iPhone: had to "Erase and Sync" - folders gone :@

Is there a fix for this, I cannot be bothered going through them manually and organising them again

I think I may have realised why the folders have gone. When restoring from my backup hard drive, instead of going through migration assistant, I just dragged the apps, songs, etc... from the backup hard drive onto the iTunes icon in my dock.

  • IMovie 10 Project library folders gone?

Where did the project folders go from the project library in iMovie 9. I can't find them anymore in iMovie 10.

Thanks Joe Seidler. Sad but exactly what I was fearing.
I just issued a refund and wrote: I don't want to waste money for a program I cannot use. My workflow is built on project and event folders. There is no warning that says: "Beware from upgrading to iMovie 10. There are some core functions missing." I will use iMovie 9. Please refund. Thank you.

  • Windows Mail Folders gone in Mac Mail after using migration assistant

I purchased a MacBook Air for my husband and used Migration assistant to transfer all of his files from his PC running Vista. It looked like everything was fine, but when I opened Mac mail, the only messages that were in there was what was in his inbox, junk and trash. Where are all of the folders from Windows Mail he had created? Please help!

  • Icloud folders gone from mail after upgrade to Mavericks

Before upgrading to Mavericks, I had an Icloud folders displayes in the mailboxes setion of mail.   After upgrading, they are no longer there.
    Any ideas?

Same thing for me too.  Late 2012 13" MBP Retina.  I have to unplug the Thunderbolt cable and plug it back in.
This has only started for me in the last two days.  The first two weeks of Mavericks was ok.
Update:  I just got back from a trip.  I was using the laptop separate from the Thunderbolt display.  I hadn't restarted since I returned and connected the monitor.  I've just rebooted, and put the computer to sleep.  After resuming from sleep, the display is ok.  Maybe try rebooting?  I'll update if it continues.

  • Mail in "On my Mac" Folders Gone but not Lost

Fourteen messages saved in the "On My Mac" folder disappeared. I viewed just saved files and left the program. Came back 30 minutes later and found the folder empty.
I have located the missing emails in the folder: user/library/mail/mailboxes/deleted messages.mbox.
I can click on them and open them in Mail, but cannot figure out how to recover them.
    Ron Maier

    You’re welcome.
The folder with the files in question was already on the desktop.
Not sure what you mean. Wasn’t it in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/?
I attempted to rename it Recoverd.mbox. The Finder wanted to confirm ".mbox".
This shouldn’t have happened if the folder already had an .mbox suffix, which it did if its name really was Deleted Messages.mbox, as you said in your first post...
I didn't because your instructions did not say it was necessary.
It shouldn’t be necessary if the situation was what I thought. Actually, depending on what the situation really was (which at this point I don’t know), it might have been necessary to do something else...
who do I e-mail about the complete lack of detailed information
    about this program.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
The "Help" ignores important things like the INBOX is volatile
and mail will be routinely dropped.
What are you talking about? This is wrong.
The little window that pops up says: "Contents stored on server.
Server name INBOX." But what server? And where?
The server associated with the mail account, or course. Who is the provider of this account?
It doesn't say it is stored remotely
What do you mean? You’ve just said that it does say “Contents stored on server”, i.e. remotely. Actually, whether it’s stored locally or on the server depends on the type of the account, i.e. whether it’s POP or IMAP. This is not a Mail issue.
and that your mail will go bye-bye soon.
    Again, this is wrong.
Or that the "Smart Folder" does not store the actual message
but more like an "alias" of the file.
This is wrong too. Mail Help’s “Creating a Smart Mailbox” article says this:
A Smart Mailbox displays a set of email messages, stored in other mailboxes, that match specific criteria you have defined. [...]
When you make a change to a message viewed through a Smart Mailbox, such as marking the message as read or unread, or moving or deleting the message, the change is reflected in the mailbox where the message is actually stored.
We have to discover these things through errors and disasters
I agree that Mail’s documentation leaves a lot to be desired. There are even “help” articles that are utterly wrong and suggest things that could lead to irretrievable data loss if the user does what they say (i.e. deleting a POP account), but it seems to me that you’re also making a lot of wrong assumption here...
is there a place where I can properly direct my rant?
There is no right place to post a rant if what you say is wrong...

  • Bridge cache managment & export to folders?

What is the function and advantage of "auto exporting cache to folders" in Bridge?
Round 2 testing, I changed the CS6 Bridge cache location to be the same location I was using for CS5, on a secondary drive.
Small mistake, because CS6 proceeded to delete the entire existing cache and start building a new one. However, Bridge CS5 seems to coexist OK sharing the same cache with CS6. They are both re-building the cache as I visit individual folders. (30,000 files in 800 folders gonna take a while).
Long ago under CS3 I adopted the strategy of setting Bridge to "Auto export cache to folders." That worked well, because if you purged the master cache, Bridge would very quickly rebuild it from the folder cache files each time you re-visited a folder. The thumbs would come up very quickly if a folder cache existed, much slower if no folder cache existed.
Under CS5, and now CS6, that is no longer true. If you visit a folder after the cache has been purged, a slow process to generate thumbnails occurs. It appears that the individual folder cache is not being used for anything. The time to re-build the cache is about the same, regardless of whether folder cache files exist or not.
Purging or deleting the Bridge cache was often necessary under CS3 because the cache often became corrupted. CS5 was more stable, but still not immune from cache corruption. Maybe CS6 will be even more stable, but I'm betting cache purges will still be sometimes necessary. Is there any way to make the rebuild faster? Or more generally, what's the best strategy for Bridge cache management?
(And no, I don't have "keep 100% previews in cache" selected.)

  • How do I update my iPad 2 to iOS5 WITHOUT LOSING ALL APPS, folders and data.

I lost it all on my iPhone when I upgraded to iOS5.... 400+ apps, with progress on all of them, gone. A dozen or more folders, GONE. The update process did NOT restore everything as stated on Apple's website. So I have to redownload? Recreate all folders? This is PATHETIC. Apple screwed us hard on this pathetic attempt of an update. Great for new-combers but not for anyone else.

Apple definitely dropped the ball on instructions, but I'll give you the same reply I just gave this other user: click on SYNC on your iTunes with your updated iPad connected. ALLLLL your stuff is there, folders, apps everything. Don't be scared. They'll reappear (unless you didn't make a backup, which, however, is done automatically for you during the upgrade).
For some reason, Apple didn't inform people that they must click on Sync as the final step after the upgrade. I thought the same thing as you did. But everything reappeared after I read about the solution online.
