Folders hierarchy

In Lightroom in the left panel, under folders, I have a Folder named "Little India". I created another folder< "Singapore" which ended up nested inside the Little India folder. I deleted it and tried to create a new folder, but the folder option, "Put inside the Little India folder" is checked and I am not able to uncheck it. The Hierarchy should be: Folders>Singapore>"Little India". How do I make Singapore my main folder and Little India a subfolder? I already have 2 other subfolders in the Singapore folder. I tried making another subfolder within Singapore, named it Little India, then selected all the images in Little India and dragged to the new subfolder. The folder then contained all the images from the other 2 folders also. How do I get around this? I just want the folders to look the same as the back-ups and other volumes.
I have a Mac G4, OS 10.4.10, 1 GB Ram, LR 1.3.1.

Sean, the "include folders from subitems" was not checked. In fact, I double checked that again. Nope, not checked.
Michael,
you are right about the Library>New Folder works differently. But if I select that, it prompts me to choose a location. If I choose the HD where my library is located, will it show up in the context menu in the left column? I can't tell since if I open the hard drive where it resides, it just shows.lrdata & .lrcat

  • Where can I find a tutorial about Show Folders Hierarchy?

    I have Permiere Elements 11 which also has the Elements Organizer as part of the program. And I have Photoshop Elements 10 also. The Elements Organizer with the video editing program is what I'm interested in though. I think my folder hierarchy is not right. I'd like to straighten it out but I don't know how. Can someone direct me to a tutorial on how to work with the Folders Hierarchy.
    This might be a different question, but it might be related to my confusion about the Folder Hierarchy in the Organizer. On June 10 I was copying some photos from my hard drive to the Organizer - probably a dumb thing to do. While I was doing this, the Pictures folder (View and organizes digital pictures) no longer took me to all my photos on the hard drive. The Pictures folder is under Personal Folder, Documents, Music, Control Panel on the Windows 7 desktop to the right of the Start Menus stuff.
    When I click on Pictures now I get two folders: Adobe and Pictures. The Adobe folder has these values - Size: 0 bytes; Contains: 0 Files, 1 Folder; Created: Monday, June 10, 2013; Attributes: Read-only (only applies to files in the folder. I deleted the Abobe folder several times but it keeps coming back.
    What I would really like to do is to restore my Pictures folder to its original state so that I will have access to all my hard drive photos immediately instead of clicking around in those folders. I vaguely think that something I did to the folder hierarchy in the Optimizer has messed up other things on my computer.

    You wrote, "So if you moved the files, what you need to do is move them back..."
    I don't know how to do this. Could you tell  me how. I moved about 50 photos into the Organizer. Now I know I should not have done this. I'd like to correct the mistake.
    When I click on the Show Folder List icon this is what I see:
    My Pictures
         Pictures
              Faces
                   Clowns
         My Videos
         Computer
                   C:
                   Program Data
                   Users
                        Tommy
                              Faces
                                   Dancing
                                   Faces
                                   Lovers
                                   Racing
                                   Tommy
                         Pictures
                  D
                  E
                  F
                  G
    This makes no sense to me. But I could live with it - except perhaps something I did has made my PrE11 impossible to work with. When I put new clips via the memory card into the program, they do not go into the Timeline. All I get is an error message.
    I like the Adobe programs and don't want to give up on them, especially since my problems probably have been self-imposed.

  • Filing by date in folders hierarchy

    Hi, I have mess in photos. I want export folders hierarchy that in first level of subfolders are years (from exif data) and in two level of subfolder are original folder's name. I can't find this option.

    Folders are how you OS organises files, not how LR works. LR uses metadata, collections etc. The folders are only shown so you know where the original files are located. You can rename and move folders around in Lightroom.
    You can also create new folders when exporting images files for use outside of LR.
    If you want to use LR to create a collection based on years within the exif data you can create a smart collection and select capture date as the defining factor.
    Screen shot attached shows how to create a smart collection that will automatically include all files with 2008 as capture date in the Exif

  • How to merge two Mail folders hierarchy ?

    I've got two Mac. On both I use Mail app. I've created many folders and sub-folders to sort my emails on each of them.
    This folder hierarchy is not exacly the same on each Mac.
    I wish to merge these two folders hierarchy in order to have the same folder hierarchy and mails on each Mac.
    Is there a way or a soft able to do that 'cause I can't do that manually (too many mails and folders)
    Example : if a mail 'A' has been put into a folder X of the first Mac,and a mail 'B' has been put in a the same folder on the second Mac, I want to have mails A & B in the same folder X on each Mac. if a folder exists on first Mac, it must be created on second Mac. etc etc
    Any idea ?
    thanks

    Don't try to merge or replace the System Folder & Library Folder on the new install of Yosemite. You will corrupt your operating system. If someone told you to do that, they are idiots.
    I would assume you have booted into the new install of Yosemite and created a new user account on it already. Options would depend on if the old user account has the same name as the one you just created.
    Easiest thing for you to do at this point is to copy your documents from the external drive from your old user account to the new user account. And, just reinstall any applications from scratch.
    Other people may be able to give better advice on what you need to do. But maybe give a bit more info.
    Be specific on what you have done so far as to any changes you've made so far.
    What was the old system you were running? Did you clone the old system to the external, or just copy folders?
    Also, what do you need from the external drive? Documents can be copied easily. iPhoto Libraries, iTunes Libraries, Mail, etc. are a bit more complicated.

  • Folders hierarchy alphabetically

    I have 2 more questions:
    1) I have to print the folders that I have in my account but alphabetically. I get the folders name but Aleatori, without sense(or I can't see the sense. I want the folders alphabetically because I want create a hierarchy tree. I get this:
    INBOX.Trash
    INBOX.Folder1
    INBOX.Folder3.Folder31
    INBOX.Folder2
    INBOX.Folder3
    INBOX
    INBOX.Folder1.Folder11
    INBOX.Folde2.Folder12
    INBOX.Folder1.Folder11.Folder111
    INBOX.Folder3.Folder31.Folder311
    INBOX.Folder1.Folder21
    For example, INBOX is the father of Folder1, and folder1 have two childrens, Folder11 and Folder21.
    I want to get this:
    INBOX
    INBOX.Folder1
    INBOX.Folder1.Folder11
    INBOX.Folder1.Folder11.Folder111
    INBOX.Folder1.Folder21
    INBOX.Folder2
    INBOX.Folder2.Folder12
    INBOX.Folder3
    INBOX.Folder3.Folder 31
    INBOX.Folder3.Folder31.Folder311
    INBOX.Trash
    Now I have this code but the result is aleatori.
    Folder [] folderlist = folder.list("*");
    for (int i=0;i<fodlerlist.length;i++)
    System.out.println ("Folder: " + folderlist.getFullName());
    I have another code with sort, but if I use that I lost another properties and I can't use the tabulations, the the method getParent().getName() or similar like thisjava.util.Collections.sort(lista);I need something to print alphabeticaly whit the first code, and I could use more methods(gerName, get parent..)
    2) The Message-ID of one mail is UNIQUE in all the servers of the world? It is imposible to receibe two emails with the same Message-ID in two differents accounts? It is important because I think that is is the unique identificator to differenciate two messages in the server, because the UID change when you move one mail to anther folder. This Id never change? I need one unique identifier and I need one identifier that never change.
    Thanks!!!

    No, the Message-ID is not guaranteed unique. Messages can have no Message-ID, two messages can have the same Message-ID,
    and Message-IDs can change. All of these events are unlikely, but not impossible. Depending on how you're using the Message-ID,
    this may or may not be an issue for you.

  • List "Folders" hierarchy by date instead of alphabetically?

    I would love to get the left panel in Lightroom 5.4 to show my folders in order of their name, creation date, modification date just like you can do with the OSX Finder or the Explorer in Windows but can't for the life of me find where to change this. Is this functionality in Lightroom?
    I find myself opening my folders in OSX Finder, listing the folders by date to see what I named the folder from last week, then opening Lightroom and navigating through the folders on the left to the one I need. I can see how to list the photos in the center panel by date, but with up to several hundred RAW files in each folder it takes a LOT more time to scroll through the photos in Lightroom and then click "Go to Folder in Lightroom".

    So I am assuming Lightroom doesn't have this ability? Too bad, and it's strange too as every other photo editing/organizing piece of software I've used has this functionality
    Lightroom was not designed to be a file browser, and it was not designed to contain all of the tools of other software ... it was designed to be different and to contain its own set of organizing tools which are very powerful, if you learn how to use them.
    Organizing is a combination of mental processes and software tools, and when those mental processes and software tools are not "compatible", as seems to be your case, then you will find that things don't go smoothly. WHen your mental processes and software tools are "compatible", then Lightroom works very smoothly.
    You must have a good memory to remember five to ten folder names a day over several weeks... that's about 75-100 folder names a month... beyond most folks abilities.
    I don't remember folder names, and I said I don't use them to help me find my photos. My photos get keywords that describe the content, and that is my suggestion to you. You could take your 5 weeks of photos, in hundreds of folders, and give them basic keywords at import (since you have to import the photos anyway). From there, it is a very simple task to find just those photos that have the desired keyword(s). Certainly no harder than giving the folders individual names in the first place. But no matter how you slice it, if you've got hundreds of folders, there is going to be a certain amount of work on your part to make them "findable", whether you use folder names or keywords or some other tool. And if you can't remember the hundreds of folder names (then you can't remember the keywords either), then there's the problem, it's not Lightroom.
    If you MUST rely on a date based search, then you either need to use your operating system, or change the way you name the folders so that they contain a yyyy-mm-dd date before the descriptive name, such as "2014-06-13 California" so then they will sort properly inside of Lightroom. But since I abhor date-based organizing, and I love metadata based organizing, I do not recommend this, I would still go for keywords. Instead of creating hundreds of folders during your 5 week trip, instead of putting these 50 photos into folder A, and the next 112 photos into folder B and so on, I would leave them in a single folder (or a few large folders) and assign them keywords instead of putting them into folders (there are freeware programs that will allow you to assign keywords to photo, just as simple as creating folders). Then finding them in Lightroom becomes no problem, the keywords are read when you import them into Lightroom.

  • Backup imap folders hierarchy/tree

    Hello,
    I have some imap accounts (like mobileme) set up in Mail. I have, for those imap accounts, imap folders.
    I would like to backup them every month. I can copy all mail from a imap folder into a local folder, but I have a folder tree like Folder1/sub-folder1/sub-sub-folder1 etc. So I am loocking for some "copy folder to local folder" capability in mail or with a third party app.
    As I have around 60 folders/subfolders it is not a solution to recreate/add new folder locally each time I want to backup and go through each folder to copy the folder's messages to the corresponding local folder.
    Also, to be able to do the reverse (ie move local folder tree to an imap account) would be nice.
    Any advice ?
    Marc

  • Playlist Folders/Hierarchy

    So I've seen multiple similar types of questions in the archives, but no solutions (at least that I can find).
    I have iTunes for Windows. I have a LOT of Playlists, and I'd like to organize them on screen better.
    For example, I have playlists that are exclusively for my wife, some that are exclusively for long runs, some that are exclusively for short runs, etc.
    So I would be super-happy if there was a way to grab a bunch of playlists and assign them to different categories or groups... So instead of having something like this:
    I could group them, and expand/collapse the groups as I saw fit.
    So, let's say I had four Groups:
    Then I could expand, say, "Honey's Playlists":
    I don't care if all my playlists list in order on the iPod - I'd be happy with cleaning up my Windows iTunes screen.
    So , QUESTION ONE: Is this do-able?
    If the answer is "No", that begs QUESTION TWO: How do I convince the kind, brilliant, and good-looking people at Apple to include this feature in the future?

    Hmm, server sync issues, or perhaps it has something to do with the [ & ] in your images' filenames.
    This is what I see:

  • Photo stream with multiple folders

    Hi,
    Can’t Apple TV see more than one level of folders when streaming photos? i have the following folders hierarchy vacations-> 2007->Brazil for whatever reason when I set the shared folder to be “vacations” Apple TV claim that there are no pictures in the shared library. if I set the shared library to 2007 it will work and will see all my vacation’s folders under the 2007 folder. I remember that it used to work long time ago and Itune will stream the pictures in all the subfolders no matter if the folders are one or more level deep. any thoughts what is wrong?
    I use Win7, latest iTune, Apple TV v3.0.
    Thanks!

    Turn PhotoStream off on the device you want to exclude

  • Sort folders panel view?

    I must be missing something.
    In Essentials workspace can I sort the Folders Panel by date modified, not the Content Panel?, currently it is alphabetical, I can ctrl-click on a folder and choose sort but this only sorts the content view not the folders hierarchy within the Folders Panel.
    thanks.

    I must be missing something.
    No you did not, you are not able to sort the folder panel itself, only its
    content in the content window. The folder panel reflects the sort order in
    the Finder, don't know if changes in the Finder will show in Bridge but you
    can easily find that out yourself with trying .

  • Moving Pictures to new drive- XP MC/LR 1.1

    What if I want to move the photos that have been imported at their location?
    IOW, I am on Windows XP MC, I have imported lots of photos (7000+) and have either brought them from their location in
    {c:\documents and settings\.....}
    ...My Documents\My Pictures\2007\0607\Fishing Trip (e.g.)
    into LR WITHOUT relocating them into the library.....that is, I left the photos where they were and imported them.....+or+ I imported from a memory card and moved them to a new location inside of My Pictures. I have added keywords, ratings, devlop settings etc.
    Now, as I struggle to keep free space on my 250GB drive, I am thinking of relocating all my data including pictures onto a 750GB My Book USB 2.0 drive I bought at Best Buy over the weekend for ~$190. Or may be to a new SATA internal drive...
    What do I tell LR? IOW, if I just go ahead and do this in windows, all the files LR is pointing at in its catalog will be gone or broken links- missing photos or whatever.
    Do I move them in LR's folders hierarchy itself- I can't imagine- plus most of my 40,000+ images aren't even known to LR.
    I'm sure there must be some way to do this properly.....may be exporting a catalog and colocating it with the pics or....??? Stumped.
    Some of this seems to be addressed here,
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...3736&sliceId=2
    ....but it's not entirely clear to me and looks like there is much to lose in doing this....may be keywords, collection info etc.
    I understand for all my Nikon NEF files the idea of writing the XMP sidecars, but do I have to reimport all the files again when I move them? Will the XMP files have the keywords, ratings etc? I'm still not sure this even answers my request in that I want to move my whole library and all my images to a new hard drive- not burn them to CD/DVD as suggested in the article.

    I am not at my PC with lightroom on at the moment so this may be a bit vague. But here goes.
    Create a directory where you want your photos to reside. ( this should be the base directory which will hold all your photos.) I am guessing in your case it would be (new drive\My Photos).
    place a single photo into the directory.
    import the photo into lightroom.
    In the folder view you will now see this directory. You should be able to move your existing directories into this folder inside lightroom. e.g. You should hopefully be able to see the directory 2007, which you can just move.
    If you can not see you base directories (2007) there is a trick which allows you to see them in the folder view but I have not got the details on me at the moment. Someone else may point you at the trick. Or just place an image in that directory and import it.
    Hope this helps.
    Niall

  • How do I tell light room where pix are?

    I've moved all picture files to a new hard drive.  How do I tell Lightroom where to locate them?

    Your folders in the folders panel should have a question mark in front of their names.
    Right-click the top-most folder in the folders hierarchy and select <Find missing folder> or <Update folder location>. Then navigate to your new hard drive, highlight the folder and click on <Select folder>.
    Lr should then fin all sub-folders on its own, provided you have not changed the folder names or the folder structure.

  • ITunes 10.4 crashing when syncing music

    I'm having a major problem after upgrading to iTunes 10.4 for Windows.  I'm now randomly crashing when syncing music to my Ipad 2.   It seems some sync fine and then all the sudden it crashes.
    The crash I'm getting is:
    AppName: itunes.exe     AppVer: 10.4.0.80     ModName: quicktime.qts
    ModVer: 7.69.80.9     Offset: 001cd746
    What's odd is that it's even crashing on audio podcasts that I downloaded on my iPad 2 which are being synced to my PC without issue, but then cause it to crash when syncing back.
    I had no problems with 10.3.1 or earlier.

    This is long, jump to the end if you don’t care about my new life problem! And sorry for my English, I’m not a native English speaker! Also, I’m just posting this stuff so people with this issue don’t have to try it all also.
    ok, so my problem started with the ipad 2; i had a lot of pictures there but wanted to change the "stupid" way (for a windows addict) that apple arranges, or not, folders hierarchy. I deleted every single picture and imported my new structure (in windows). Useless to say that i got stuck here. i tried 100 times and i got the quicktime.qts module error (iTunes crashing). Good to know, obv, but what do i know of quicktime!? nothing...
    Since i have an iPhone 4, and the iPhone only ever carried pictures taken with it, never had synced pictures before i decided to give it a try. same error…Ok, now i know the problem isn't in the devices but in iTunes itself, Quicktime, most likely.
    Not happy with this conclusion, i decided to restore factory settings on both ipad 2 and iPhone 4 (4.3.5 ios). Gave it another try, after deleting every ipod photo cache folder in my library and re-installing iTunes completely (i tried re-installing before devices restoring with same error). No luck here either...
    Went to discussion boards and figured a lot of people are having this issue, so i thought it’s probably in the iTunes 10.4 update, since i didn’t have a backup of my previous library, and i have 20000 songs, and didn’t want to lose the only library i had, i opted not to install previous iTunes version because i knew my library wouldn’t work and i rather have a decent library with no videos, than videos with a new library to build. So I didn’t try this.
    i tried everything, there's a post that a guy, a while ago, resolved this issue (or similar) simply by deauthorizing and reauthorizing computer, or just by logging in to his iTunes account... other person resolved his issue by logging on a new windows account and syncing with a "clean" iTunes then moving to his previous account. Or deleting some quicktime files and folders that are on system32 folder, besides the 2 files that are needed... i only had the 2 needed files, no more! I tried it all, no luck.
    Somewhere i read it could have to do with quicktime not being the default video player for .mov files, so i made it, still no luck.
    My last try was messing with the registry looking for "stupid leftovers" of quicktime, a lot of them i knew shouldn’t be there and i deleted, but i was still stuck on the crash error. for this i removed iTunes, cleaned computer from apple stuff (all but my library files that i backed up),
    cleaned registry and installed everything back again.in the meanwhile, no sure when, i figured since this could have something to do with quicktime (i noticed that it gets stuck when starting to optimize videos), i created a test folder with one picture and 1 video and I managed to pass through optimizing process. tried with 3 movies, after emptying the device and deleting cache folder (like from scratch), but Kabooom, crashed again. tried same thing, but first i opened the movies in quicktime in windows, then synced and it worked!! probably this could be the solution, tried with my whole library (2k+ photos and about 100 movies) but crashed again... probably i forgot/messed up to open some movie in quicktimes pior to syncing, but well, i was fed up with .mov files, or .mp4, m4v, FWIW (i tried them all).
    After this (i only did all this because I’m computer addicted!) i rested my case, i posted on the forums and had 2 choices: wait for apple to solve this, if they care or Format my PC and probably be getting the same error, this is the only thing i didn't try cause i have lots of stuff to backup and configure, and lots of onetime license software...
    I kept doing stuff with computer, installed a bunch of software (not related to this but related to DVD and movie editing stuff), after i stopped working i retried again, Meh, cleaned everything and got thru once with my new test folder (with different videos and pictures), but when i went to my REAL folders, APPCRASH again. Broke my mouse (apple owes me this!), stopped working and went to sleep.
    I was real convinced this could have something to do with video encoding/decoding stuff. And also about quicktime
    Now, the only thing working for me was:
    Opening movies in quicktime prior to syncing (worked once or twice)
    syncing right after I turned on the computer, but only small folders.
    Makes me think problem is in the processor, since it eats a lot of CPU and memory at the end of a 1000 picture and videos sync. And it crashes when starting to optimize videos, sometimes I see it passes like 2 or 3 movies and crashes after. That’s why I can sync small folders right after I turn on my computer, but with big folders itunes just lags my windows wayyyy to much and at the end (when gets to optimizing videos) is really hot and slow, and crashes, I could make 1 video at a time but I believe itunes should work for itself without these “workarounds”.
    I’m a computer guy and an application that uses up almost all computer CPU when “working” and “eats” way too much RAM is not a  solid application… in this part itunes *****.

  • Batch Loader and Folders_g Question

    I would like to use Batch Loader to load a large number of images into WCC. I am also using Folders_g in my implementation, and would like to instruct batch loader during asset loading run-time which folder in /Contribution Folders/ to place the asset. Does anyone know what the batch load file key / value pair is to make this happen?
    Would I use something like this: (using dCollectionPath)
    Action = insert
    dDocTitle=Test Image
    dDocAuthor=sysadmin
    dSecurityGroup=Public
    dDocType=Document
    dInDate=10/25/10 9:58 AM
    primaryFile=C:/Files/Test Image.doc
    dCollectionPath=/Contribution Folders/images

    Thank you,
    Randy

    Good Morning,
    Thank you Anand and Srinath for helpful answers. Yes, the xCollectionID does work and I have it loading into the correct folder using that approach. However, I have several folders under the root /Contribution Folders hierarchy, and determining the xCollectionID of each or these subfolders prior to Batch Loader runtime and mapping the IDs to each of the nodes in the Batch Load File will be tedious. Furthermore, I will be building the Batch Load File on at least four different environments i.e. DEV, TEST, STAGING, and PRODUCTION, and determining xCollectionIDs for several folders across these environments will add even more complexity. I can do it, but was hoping for an easier path.
    I am open to any more suggestions / ideas following your digestion of the previous information.
    Let me throw one other question out there. Let's say I am able to load all my assets into the several folders in my folders_g hierarchy in my DEV environment using the mapping of xCollectionID. Am I able to migrate that folder structure with loaded assets downstream into TEST, STAGING, and PRODUCTION using some out of the box UCM utility? Does something like that exist?
    Thank you,
    Randy

    If you can see the photos in the "Previous Import" section in the Catalog tab, which I think is what you're saying, then right-click one of the photos and choose "Go to folder in library".  That will show you where they are in the Folders hierarchy.
