Folders in Adobe elements 11

I have hundreds of folders, some with a few photos in each. I would like to have one folder for each year. I cannot work out how to amalgamate different folders into one folder.
thank you for any help.

As an alternative to this process, you might want to consider not organizing chronologically at all. In my opinion, using tags, captions and notes, which describe the content of the photo, provides a much better organization than chronological organizing, and so all this moving of photos from one folder to another seems like a sub-optimal and inefficient use of time.
Why do I recommend this alternative? Because most (all?) people can remember the content of the photo — and thus you can remember the tag(s) a lot easier than remembering what year something was photographed. I have over 20,000 photos and I certainly don't remember the year they were all taken, but I remember the content. If you were to look me right in the eye and tell me that you remember the year that all of your thousands of photos were taken, I'd look you right back in the eye and say "I don't believe you, prove it". If I want to find that picture of the kids at the beach — I have no idea what year it was, but if I search for photos with tags Kids and Beach, I find it quickly and I don't have to remember the year it was taken.

  • Adobe Elements 11 Organizer and Importing images from camera.

I changed Adobe Elements version (from 10 to 11) and Brand New all-in-one Dell XPS computer that comes with Windows 8 as OS (From XP SP3) ... Now my import in Adobe Organzer gets stuck.   Adobe Elements sees the camera, and compares the files on my camera to the photos in Organizer and knows how may are duplicates.   I then select all the photos it finds as Non-Duplicates and tell it what directory to import into and select (Finish/Import) and it just sits there.  I can change anything on that screen for options, but it really is locked up.   I have to use Task Manager to end the task so that I can get back into Adobe Organizer.    Maybe there is some kind of incompatibility with Windows 8 I am not aware of?

As you said "I am using this method as a bandaid, but this method will constantly copy all files (including old photos still on card) to a new folder.  This means that I have the same photo being copied from my cameras memory to multiple locations.  Not the best method (lots of clutter). "
This is not so. Importing photos using Watched Folders doesn't copy your photos to any other location.
Please empty your card and add 1-2 images to it. Now launch Photodownloader.exe from the location : C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer
Post doing this, launch Organizer. Let's see if the import happens.
    Thanks

  • Using Adobe Elements 12 on IMac

I recently switched from a PC to IMac. I have used Adobe Elements for 10+ years to organize my photos. When I got the new IMac they imported all of my photos into IPhoto. I tried to use IPhoto but decided I did not want to go back and try to organize all those old photos all over again. I decided to get Adobe Elements 12 and restored my catalog on my IMac. I am still importing photos to IPhoto from my IPad and IPhone and want to be able to import select photos from IPhoto into Elements Organizer (not all of the photos). I know you can select import>IPhoto but am afraid it will import all of those photos or will it recognize the photos as duplicates?? I have been afraid to try. I am going to have to find some expert to delete the duplicate photos I now have on my IMac since I downloaded the photos initially and them imported the Elements catalog. Also is there anyway to have photos that automatically download to IPhoto to go into Elements instead? In my ideal world I would like to just use Elements. Thanks for any help.

If you really want to continue with this workflow, the way would be to select the photos in iphoto and export them, put them where you want to keep them, and use "from files and folders". You're correct that "from iphoto" will duplicate the entire iphoto library.

  • IPhoto as Library and Adobe Elements Organizer as download client

I wanted to use Adobe Elements 9 Organizer as the download client as I can actually see image files saved and grouped by folders and iPhoto as library and creative authoring.
Will using iPhoto to create library from Pictures Folder (those saved by Elements Organizer) duplicate the photos that are already in that folder? I kind think that iPhoto will copy those photos into its own. I worry about duplicating the JPEG files in my Pictures Folder.
    Thanks.

I'm with Larry when he says to pick one horse and ride it. This can get quite confusing very quickly.
    To answer your specific question:
Will using iPhoto to create library from Pictures Folder (those saved by Elements Organizer) duplicate the photos that are already in that folder
By default, yes, but you can set iPhoto not to. But note: a: What Happens when you do - for instance, that various versions of the files will not be available except through iPhoto, which will confuse your proposed system, and b: The various caveats to running a Referenced Library.
    *How to do it:*
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
    *What Happens:*
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
    *Some things to consider:*
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You have to to put the files where they will be stored before importing them. When you delete them you'll need to remove the files from the HD yourself.
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    4. Because iPhoto has no tools for managing Referenced Files, if, for some reason, the path to the photos changes then you could find yourself resolving aliases for +each photo in the Library+ one by one.
    My own opinion:
I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organiser
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    *An Alternative*
Set Elements as an External Editor in iPhoto: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.

  • Where are photos in the Adobe Elements 10 Organizer backed up to?

When photos in Adobe Elements 10 Organizer are backed up, what part of my Mac are they backed up to?
    I cannot find them anywhere.

The thumbnail cache is separate and lives in the system files.
You could try a new catalog - it doesn’t involve any duplication.
    Click: File >> Catalog
    Click the New button
Give your catalog a name e.g. My Catalog2 (or whatever you prefer)
Check the box Import Free Music - that will bring in the Adobe MP3 tracks used in slideshows
    Then click OK
When the new blank catalog opens click: File >> Get Photos and Videos >> From Files & Folders
Navigate to your root folder (normally Pictures or My Pictures or wherever you put your photos) then press Ctrl+A to select all sub folders or make sure the checkbox is marked.
    Click Open or Get Media
Wait for Elements to complete the import, accept all keyword suggestions (select all) and then wait for thumbnails to finish generating.
N.B. You may not get all the metadata (keywords etc) but in view of the problems you have had it may be your best hope.

  • Converting Adobe Elements 7 for Windows to iPhoto 2009

    Hi,
I recently purchased a new iMac and I'm planning to convert my Windows photo library from Adobe Elements 7 to iPhoto.
Is it possible for me to preserve the tags and other info? If so, how?
Also, my Windows Elements photos are organized by date, with a separate folder for each date; the photos under each date just have numerical sequence number. I would prefer to have a structure organized with a folder for each event and each photo within the event folder prefixed by event name then a sequential number, e.g. NewYork folder with pics NewYork001, etc.Can I implement a structure like this in iPhoto and if so how? Should I do it before I import the pics?
    thanks for the help,
    David

    Here's a Tip:
Create a Library and import 100 pics and explore. See what iPhoto can do - and can't - for you. Take a little time to see how it integrates with the OS but also how things you would attach importance to before (like the Filename) are of little interest.
Is it possible for me to preserve the tags and other info? If so, how?
Yes, I believe so. You must be sure to write the tags back to the files before migrating. Check your manual for details.
my Windows Elements photos are organized by date, with a separate folder for each date; the photos under each date just have numerical sequence number.
This kind of organisation is pretty pointless in iPhoto. With the date tool you can find all the pics taken on any day/Month/year with a click. With Smart Albums you can find any pics within a particular date range and so on.
I would prefer to have a structure organized with a folder for each event and each photo within the event folder prefixed by event name then a sequential number, e.g. NewYork folder with pics NewYork001, etc.Can I implement a structure like this in iPhoto and if so how?
Yes you can title the photos (Photos -> Batch Change) and add a sequential number to them. But note that the basic organising Element in iPhoto is The Album. Photos go in Albums, Albums can be in Folders and so on. But Folders don't actually contain photos, only Albums.
Note to: +Adding a Title does not rename files+ The filename is of no concern in iPhoto. You can export from iPhoto using the title as a filename for the Photo, should you need to.
FWIW: Here's how I use iPhoto:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums exensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 28k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
Keywording takes time to set up, there's no doubt about it. I use Keyword Manager as it's much more powerful than the inbuilt system, and adds the possibility of nested keywords. So, for instance, if I add John to a photo it also adds 'Family'. Now I can add many keywords to a pic quickly.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • Why does Adobe Elements 4.0 suddenly crash about the time Apple has a security update?

Why does Adobe Elements 4.0 suddenly start crashing about the time Apple has a security update?

An ADOBE FORUM "Community Professional" commented:
"Well, I'm not sure any of this is going to work, but go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
    com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist
The PSE 4 Paths and Settings folders (can't remember whether they're called Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 Paths or something different, but you want folders with Paths and Elements 4 in their names--you should be able to figure out which they are)
Opera preferences (if you have it)
    Repair permissions and try again.
If it still quits, go to the PSE 4 folder in applications and delete the Adobe TWAIN driver from the plug-ins folder (note that you may have trouble with Epson scanners in PSE after doing this).
However, PSE 4 is pretty darned old and it's less compatible with every new OS X update, so what I've suggested may work and may not. FWIW, you probably will not be able to reinstall the program if you ever need to do so--installed versions of PSE 4 keep working in 10.6, but the installer does not."
    Hope this helps

  • Resource Data Found Damaged: Adobe Elements 10 Organizer.app

I ran DiskWarrior, which "scanned  the disk named “Macintosh HD” checking all files and folders for damage and potential compatibility problems.
1 file had resource data that was found to be damaged.
    File:  “AdobeSWFL.rsrc”
Detected that the resource header is damaged and cannot be repaired.
    Location:  “Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe Elements 10 Organizer.app/Contents/ElementsAutoAnalyzer.app/Contents/Frameworks/AdobeOwl.framework/Ve rsions/A/Resources/AdobeSWFL.bundle/Contents/Resources/”
I deleted Adobe Elements 10, as well as Adobe Elements 10 Organizer, reinstalled Adobe Elements 10, and ran DiskWarrior again.  Again, the same file had resource data that was found to be damaged.
Should I be worried about the problem?  Has anyone else found the same damage?  What can be done about it, short of Adobe fixing the problem and issuing an upgrade?

First of all, I personally don't think it's wise to run pre-emptive strikes with repair utilities. Use them when you actually have a problem.
If you uninstalled PSE by deleting it, you have a problem. You MUST use the uninstaller in Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. PSE is not a nice tidy package like most mac apps, and there are bits and bobs all over your hard drive. Try running the uninstaller now, but it may well not work. If it doesn't, post back.
IMHO, running DW unecessarily is more likely to cause problems than to fix them. I'm always hearing from enthusiastic DW users about how it narrowly saved them from a major failure of this or that, while people who don't run these utiities don't have these crises at all. It's great when things really have gone wrong, don't get me wrong. It's the very best for fixing serious problems, but OS X just doesn't need all that maintenance and actually runs better without intervention, most of the time.

If your User Account already had your user name and the word Administrator under that, then no need to do anything. Just exit out of there. But, if there was no Administrator showing in the User Account thumbnail, then Administrative Priviledges have to be added to the User Account that you are using for Premiere Elemetns. But, let me ask you this, how many User Accounts thumbnails do you find in that User Account area?
    1. Did you get the following done yet in which we assure that the Folder Option is set to "Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives"? Can you follow that path to Folder Options?
    Windows 7 64 bit.
    a. Click on the Start Button.
    b. In the Search field directly above the Start Button, type in Folder Options.
    c. Then look to the top of that left column where you should see the words Folder Options to click on.
    d. Click on Folder Options to open the Folder Options dialog where you click on its View Tab.
    e. Scroll down in the list under the View Tab until you get to the "Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drive" option.
Then click its circle to dot it to make it your choice. Then click OK to exit that area.
I do not think that we ever confirmed 32 or 64 bit Windows 7. Those were Windows 7 64 bit instructions. If finding computers locations with the 64 bit computer instruction is a problem, we may not be able to ignore the 32 or 64 bit question and have to find the answer. But, let us see if you can find Folder Options with the Windows 7 64 bit details above.
After we get the above matters settled, then we will go about finding and deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and maybe also the 9.0 Folder in which it exists. Then, to do that, we will use the instructions given previously, that is,
Let us try the deletion of the settings file (named Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs) and then maybe the 12.0 Folder in which it exists.
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    9.0
and in the 9.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then you delete the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists.
    That is the plan.
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thanks.
    ATR
You say that you are at Folder Options. Did you confirm that you have a dot next to Folder Option "Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives"?
If so, then it is time to go through the second part of post 16 and delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file (and, if necessary) the whole 9.0 Folder in which it exists.
That is the plan for today. Please let us know the outcome.
    Thanks.

  • Problem viewing video-content folders in Adobe Bridge

    Hi there.
I have problem browsing folders inside Adobe Bridge CS6. When I get into a folder that contains files that are not just images, Adobe Bridge would not responding and would have to be closed. With the folders contains only images I have no freezing issue and Adobe Bridge run very fast and normal. I usually store images and videos inside the same folder on my image-video albums. I am running windows 8.1 on my laptop computer. I have selected several files with diverse formats inside a test folder each time to check if the program is able to represent the folder or not. I choose a mp4 file inside an image album and it did not response. I replaced mp4 with a ts video file, a wma (audio) file and a docx file (Microsoft word) to see if Bridge can show the folder or not.  Only in case of Microsoft word file the program worked but with the mouse indicator twinkling. Is there any solution to the problem? Should I use a newer version of PS to overcome this drawback?
    Thanks for your attention.

i am on windows 8 platform, i used adobe elements to work on my image - the output is in dng format, how do i convert this to jpg format?

When you make a DNG that's like making another raw file, so you will need to convert the DNG file just like your original raw. Don't use the Save button in the raw converter. That's just a link to the DNG converter. Normally you would click Open instead and then save in the editor as a jpg or other image format of your choice.

  • How do I use itune music for creating photo DVDs with music in adobe element 10?

How do I use/transfer itune music for DVDs with music in adobe elements premier?

    On each computer:
Open iTunes. Select Preferences from the iTunes menu and click on the Advanced icon in the toolbar. At the top you will see a box showing the path to your iTunes library. Click on the Change button, navigate to the location for the library on your external drive, select it and click on the Open button. Note this permanently changes the library's location on that computer. That means you cannot access your music unless the external drive is connected.
If you don't want a permanent change, then press the OPTION key and hold it down while you launch iTunes. iTunes will then prompt you to select the library you wish to open for that session.

  • How do I find duplicates in Adobe Elements 8?

Like many others, I have tons of photos on my computer - many duplicates.  My primary concern at this point, however, results from the fact that  a cousin and I have just scanned over 1500 ancestral photos and documents, newspaper clippings, etc. from many albums we've just inherited.  She numbered the photos she scanned, I named the ones I scanned.   Now we find that there were many duplicates of photos between the two of us, and we would like to find those to reduce the huge  number of files.
Does Adobe Elements easily locate duplicate images so those can be deleted?  How about if they have different file names?     Pleeeeeze tell me we can do this.
Also,  does Adobe Element 8 batch re-name files, in case we want to do that in the future with these?
I'm looking at finding an easy and inexpensive (free?    ) course for Adobe 8 as I haven't really used it that much yet.  Some of the photos are 100+ years-old and will  need some editing.
    Thanks so much.

Hi, Granny (I thought you were great in The Beverly Hillbillies)
Don't try File>>Process Multiple Files to rename if you have already imported the photos into the PSE Organizer.
There is a FAQ on how to find suspected duplicates in PSE8 Organizer. http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Find_and_delete I haven't tried this so I can't say how well it works.
