Folders in Business Area have lost their Owner

I have several Business Areas that have folders which have lost their Owner. I need to update the Owner to APPS in the business areas where the current owner is NULL. Can someone confirm that the only place I need to update the Owner for Discoverer Folders is eul4_ojbs.obj_ext_owner. Here is the SQL that I use to search for missing owners for folders from database tables:

I opened a SR (5389569.992). The short answer to the cause of the problem is the EEX files provided as the Discoverer Upgrade file were all missing the Owner. In all the files that created folders there is an entry, ExternalObjectOwner="". This sets the owner in the folder to "". The fix is to create a script that replaces this string with ExternalObjectOwner="APPS" in all the EEX files in the folder. We had to hire a consultant to find this out.

Hi,
I've been able to retrieve by sql, users and their reports or business areas and thier users, but I'm unable to retrieve business areas, users and reports in the same sql.
I've been looking in eul tables without success. I guess someone has already done that?

The problem you have is that you are trying to mix objects that don't go together.
As you have already determined, you can have a script to query users who have access to business areas, and you can also have a script to query users who have access to or own reports. However there is no link between business areas and reports.
Discoverer reports are validated against folders, not business areas. If a report uses 2 folders and there are 10 business areas that contain those folders which business area do you think the report was written against? The answer is none of them. You just happened to have a business area open at the time the report was written but truthfully you could have used any of them. Therefore, if a user reopens a workbook that uses folders found in multiple business areas, Discoverer will default to the first business area by name that contains all of the folders used and that the user has been granted access to.

Since updating to version 8.0.1 many websites have lost their identity icon.

In the address bar and Bookmarks a lot of web sites have lost their identity icon in Firefox 8.0.1 (which were there before). Holding the cursor over the icon area brings up a message saying 'this site does not supply identity information'. But this message also comes up when putting the cursor over one ''with'' an icon. Some sites have the icon in Bookmarks but it doesn't show in the address bar. I have found it does not happen on Vista laptop, only on Windows 7 desktop.

Hi. I think there are two different things going on here. The "identify information" message relates to something unrelated to the webicon. From what I can tell it has to do with digital signing. I had to do some browsing before I found a site that actually ''was'' signed: Google. When you go to Google you'll see the site name to the right of the webicon with the url afterward. Holding cursor over it shows google.com's signed by Thawte Consulting. Oddly enough, VeriSign is not...um...verified. The story on this one will be interesting.
As far as the webicon goes, if you provide links to a few sites that don't work I'd be glad to take a look. I haven't had the problem yet on Lion or Win 7 Pro, but that doesn't mean anything. It could be the way the icon is identified or its filetype: .ico and .png files can be used (maybe others) and there are different ways to identify them: link rel="shortcut icon" or "icon" and type="image/x-icon" or "image/png" if a png file's used. Could be 8.01 no longer recognizes one of these or incorrectly stated ones it was OK with in the earlier release. All guesses of course w/o having something to look into.

Definitly sounds like a physical issue with the phone. I suggest you go to your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.

Mp4 files have lost their quicktime icons!!

just noticed this and not sure when it happened
all my .mp4 files on all hard drives connected to my 10.4.9 G5 have lost their quicktime icons. they all open in quicktime just fine, but they do not automatically have the proper quicktime icons anymore. .mov files still have their icons
it's not an operational problem but I'd still like to solve it
only thing I can think of is that I upgraded my quicktime and itunes to the latest versions within the past couple of days.
I've repaired permissions and rebooted to no avail
has anyone seen this and know how to fix it?

Get Info on one of the affected files with the blank icon. Click on the icon in the Get Info window and press the Delete key. (not the Backspace key)
Provided that the default application to open .mp4 files is QuickTime player, the icon should change to the standard QT icon.
If this works, change all files of that type to open with the QuickTime Player by default. (unfortunately I'm at work, on a PC, and can't give you the button detail verbatim - working from memory now) That should reassociate the QT player with all .mp4 files, and thus assign the correct icon.

Framework files have lost their magic juju

I have a bunch of .framework files that used to be packages, but seem to have lost some flag in the file system metadata, or something. They now appear as regular folders and can easily be navigated into just like any other folder (without having to "show package contents"). What's more, they no longer function the way they are supposed to. Is there any handy command line method of "re-packaging" these frameworks? Something in the form of:
makepackage /path/to/brokenpackage

There is also a bundle bit that is set for certain folders and that will cause them to look like files in the Finder, even without a folder extension. For instance, in my Photoshop plugin folder, if I look at the the TWAIN plugin in Terminal, using the GetFileInfo command (available if you have installed Developer Tools) it has the bundle bit set:

The capital "B" means the bundle attribute is set. You can change attributes using the SetFile command (again, presuming you have Developer Tools installed). You should probably first do a GetInfo on one of the plugins that is in a working install, to determine exactly what the case is supposed to be. Afraid I don't have any plugins in .framework folder form.

Not able to view Folders in Business area.

Hi,
User has been given access to XYZ business area from discoverer Admin but not able to view folders in Discoverer Plus (web based) but he can view the folders under same business area (ie XYZ) using Discoverer Desktop Application. Only one user is facing the problem other users with same business area (ie. XYZ) can view all the folders under that business area. User tried on other PC also but result the same.

I faced same kind of problem some time back & found JInitiator as the cause. Try unintalling older Installation of JInitiator & reinstall it & it should work.

Few folders in Business area not visible in Desktop edition

I am using Discoverer 4 on Windows NT. I created a new business area using Administrative edition. When I used Desktop edition to create a new workbook, in Step 2, when I selected the new business area I created, the folders (tables) in this business area are listed in the Available list. A few of the folders that are shown in the Administrative edition are not shown in the Available List in the Desktop edition. Are there specific conditions for a folder to be listed in the Available list of the Desktop edition?

I had a similar problem. What you might want to try is to Refresh the business area in the Admin edition. That should work.

Problems viewing folders under business area

I am using 9i Discoverer. I created a business area with the Administrator and granted access to the public. However, when I log on as a user using the Desktop I can only see the business area in the list box but no folders are shown in the available window. Any idea? Thanks.

Well I checked previous postings and found somebody suggested refreshing the business area. When I first tried it I got the business area displayed but not the folders. I then refreshed it again and was able to see the folders too.

Lots of my clips of videos have lost their audio in the event and project.

I have been making a video using iMovie and when it started everything was fine and as it should be. I have been adding clips to the project and all seemed fine. Some clips get rejected and moved to the trash to clear some space on my hard drive. I have just played the video back and lots of the clips have no audio over them, even though they did when they were imported. The clips that have lost the audio aren't ones that have had parts rejected and I have tried all of the help topics that iMovie has to offer. Can anyone help me work out how I can find these again because these clips are very important. Please help, I'm really not impressed. Thanks

The audio should still be there. Try opening the clip inspector to the audio tab and set the volume slider to 100%.
Also, make sure you don't have the ducking feature in use. That will cause all other clips to be muted while the ducking is on.

Hi, Since updating to IOS 6, Almost all of my games on ipad 2 have lost their audio completely. Movies and some apps are fine but Fifa 13, Tiger woods, Contract killer, GTA, all of which werent cheap, no longer have sound. Any ideas?

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

Most of my bookmarks have lost their icons and are redirected to the BBC News website. Why? Is this a virus? How do I get them back?

My icons are missing from my bookmarks and when I click on let's say chase banking, I am taken to BBC News.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Many videos from iPhone that were in iPhoto no longer work and all have lost their thumbnails. It won't let me import videos at all now.

After installing Yosemite many of the videos I had in iPhoto won't play at all. All the videos (including missing ones) now have dashes around a thumbnail shape instead of the thumbnails that were there. When I click on the thumbnail shape of any of the ones it won't play it says "The operation couldn't be completed (OSStatus error -54.)" These are videos that were there in Mavericks before I installed Yosemite and worked fine then. Also now I am unable to import any videos from my iPhone or my desktop, even ones that it took before. It says the file is an unrecognized format.
What I want to know is - is this on purpose? Did Apple suddenly withdraw all support for videos in iPhoto and in the process destroy the ones that were there or is something wrong with my system? Do other people see thumbnails and are able to play videos and import new ones in iPhoto in Yosemite? I wouldn't be surprised if something is wrong with my system since after upgrading to Yosemite ALL the thousands of carefully organized songs in my iTunes playlists were missing and I don't think that was on purpose but the fact that I can't import new videos makes me think this is on purpose.
If this is on purpose, if iPhoto on Yosemite is really no longer able to take videos what can I use instead? In iPhoto my many videos were organized into folders and subfolders and sub-sub folders. I can't do that in iTunes and also can't adjust thumbnail size in iTunes so videos take up way too much space there. Any suggestions on third party programs that will let me organize videos into folders and subfolders, etc and see thumbnails at small sizes? I just need to be able to organize the videos and click them to play.

I noticed this morning a lot of the thumbnails were back that weren't there last night. It must have very slowly been bringing them back, but the videos that would not play at all were still not working and there were still quite a few without thumbnails. I followed your suggestion and I'm amazed! That actually fixed everything! Now all the thumbnails are back, the videos that wouldn't play at all now work fine, and iPhoto let me import the videos that it wouldn't last night . I hope it stays like that but at least I know what to do if this happens again, if I dare to install any updates.
What does holding down the option key with launching the program do? I might need to use this again or with other programs.

Images in my Aperture 3 libraries have lost their original "date created"

Just made a very discouraging discovery regarding the "date created" field for my photos. Noticed that all photos in any project default to the same date created, even if they weren't shot on the same date. Not sure what date they're all defaulting to (it's different for each project) but I've noticed two oddities:
1) The mm/dd/yy - mm/dd/yy when you view the projects by name show up with the correct date spans but when you look at each individual photo in the project, they all have the same created date.
2) If you transfer a photo from one project to another, it's creation date will change to the same creation date as all the other photos in the new project. Transfer it to a different project, and the same thing happens.
So, in short, the creation date doesn't seem to be locked into the original date when the photo was taken. What gives? Is this a bug or am I missing something? The thought that I might have to go in and re-enter all the creation dates on my thousands of photos is a bit exasperating.

There is still confusion surrounding this issue fore me.
There are three metadata views which have a Date field, General, Photo Info and EXIF Info. In each of these views the capture date and time is correctly displayed for the selected image.
The IPTC Core metadata view has a *Date Created* field. If I switch from any other metadata view to IPTC Core, the Date Created will be correct for the image that was selected when I changed views.
However if I select a different image while still in IPTC Core view, the date created does not change. Only by switching to any other metadata view then back to IPTC Core does the correct date and time display for the newly selected image.
Is this by design or is it a bug?

I have several projects in Aperture that have lost their masters and cannot be printed, moved, adjusted or otherwise use. Is there a way to at least print them?

If you have truly lost the masters and have no possibility of finding them you can drag the previews out of the Aperture browser. Depending on how you have your preview settings you should get decent images.
