Folders in Catalog - Adding

I am trying to set up new folders in Elements 11. The appear in my pictures but will not show up in the catalog. I cannot find a place to set it up in the organizer.
It will let me rename a folder and then add photos but I cannot set up a new folder

Try creating a new folder and adding at least one photo. Then use the top menu:
File >> Get Photos & Videos >> From Files & Folders
Navigate to the folder and select all (ctrl+A or Cmd+A) and click Open or Get Media

  • Help! Exporting folders as catalogs has caused caused two usb2 hard drives to become unreadable

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have been using LR since v5. I'm now on 5.3
this morning I exported (one at a time) several folders as catalogs from my Win 8.1 laptop hard drive to my main photo USB2 drive which is normally connected to my win 8 dektop pc. After the exports (LR said "task completed") I closed LR and shut down my laptop in the normal way. When i connected the usb hard drive back to my desktop pc the pc said "hard drive has become damaged or corrupted".  I also tried reconnecting the hard drive back to the laptop but got the same warning
Now this is the second time and second drive that this has happend to! The first time I put it down to drive failure but twice makes me suspect a LR problem.
Anyone else had a similar experience or ideas about how to recover the drives?
    Many thanks

I sincerely doubt that LR broke your drives. If I were you, I'd look for trouble in the motherboard, memory, USB cable, or the USB port you were using.
If LR were trashing drives on a catalogue export, this forum would have lit up with complaints, and it hasn't.
Many years ago, I received a new computer in the wintertime in Toronto and didn't wait for it to reach room temperature before booting up. I had disk problems for weeks afterward. Could it be that you brought your external drives in from the cold before you did the transfer?

  • All Folders and Sub Folders aren't Adding to Library

When I added my songs located on an external hard drive via the "add folder to library" option, I selected a root folder and let itunes add all of the folders and music located inside.
The problem is that itunes did not detect all of the folders. Alot of the folders were fully added. Some folders weren't added at all. In some instances, itunes even detected some of the sub folders within a main folder but neglected to detect the other sub folders.
I've tried adding some folders that were not detected manually, and that DOES work... but, there are alot of folders missing and I don't know that they're missing until I try to find songs from them.
I need to know why itunes is not detecting these folders automatically. I'm too lazy to go through and add each folder manually just to be sure my songs are there (There are ALOT of folders)
    What I've tried:
    1) Re-installing itunes
2)deleting my library and re-adding the root folder
3)Deleting the itunes library.itl and itunes music library.xml files, and re-adding the root folder
    4)Winamp (I don't like how it manages)
Sorry for the lengthiness, but I'm ready to get this crap fixed... I've had my share of problems with itunes.

I have managed to rescue them from my external back-up but I wonder why they disappeared in the first place -hopefully this will not happen again.

  • Folders v Catalogs

    Hi All,
I am having a few problems with folders and catalogs.
i have a client who is needing a website in different languages.
    www.the-domain.com is owned by them...
I want to be able to have a folder called UK but I also want a catalogue called UK as there are some products which only belong to the UK region.
The idea is this folder setup: UK /About-Us
                                                       /Resources
                                                        /News
Then I have this catalogue setup UK/
                                                                cars/
                                                                          ford
The reason for this is so if the user looks at the URL and is looking at a product, the URL displayed is correct to the language they have chosen regardless of whether they are viewing a product or a static page.
Surely it would make sense that when you create a catalogue you can have the option to create a folder? and then within this folder you can have sub fodlers?
    Can someone please help?
    Many Thanks

  • Working around bogus top-level folders in catalog

I have a catalog originally created on Mac and then moved to Windows, and it has two poison top-level folders that cause various SDK methods to fail.  For example, they cause catalog:setActiveSources({folder}) to have an assertion failure.
For one of the folders, folder:getPath() returns nil. For another of the folders, folder:getPath() returns a Windows UNC file path that doesn't exist. I discovered this heuristic for identifying these bogus folders:
    function isValidTopLevelFolder (folder)
        local success, f = LrTasks.pcall (function ()
            return catalog:getFolderByPath (folder:getPath ()) end)
        return success and f
        end
I've already provided this catalog to Becky Sowada of Adobe, following up on a bug report in the feedback forum. But I thought this work-around might be of usefulness to others someday.

Not quite, what I wanted to do… But, I think I can work with the "Unified folder view".

  • Highlighting new folders which are added to ItemMasterData form

I added some folders to ItemMasterData form.
It has already 8 folders and some new folders are added.
The new 9th folder is OK,
but from 10th folder, the new folders are not highlighted at Add mode.
They seem to work fine in functionality, but the background color of the folder is not highlighted,
which makes users to distinguish not easily.
Does anybody know about this problem?

    Hi,
Please close your old threads first. If you want to keep them open, at least the last message should be by you.
For this question, I believe there are maximum folders limitation for each form. You need to build different form if you have got over that limit.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

  • Copy or Move folders and catalog in Lightroom 4

Hi, I am using Lightroom since 4 years. I have about 200,000 files (4.3TB) in 3 external hard drives and one catalog for all. Recently I had a problem with one ehd (I have 2 more copies luckily) and luckily it is still working. Due to this problem I have just purchased a NAS system (QNAP TS-669 Pro) with 6x3TB drives and set it up to RAID 6. Now the question: how should I proceed? Move or Copy all my Folders to new drives using Lightroom? Second question is about the Lightroom catalog lrdata and lrcat. I would also like to move them all to my new NAS system for safety, or should I leave them all in my users directory and make a backup copy to NAS? Thanks in advance

I've just posted an answer to your question on the Lightroom Forums.

  • Copying Folders Within Catalog?

I have a large LR Catalog on my laptop, and I want to move the photos & the LR catalog to my desktop.
I just want to move certain Folders in the Catalog I've been using.
Is there a way to do that?
The Photos themselves are on an External HD, so they are easy to move.
The LR Catalog is on the Laptop's HD, and there are many separate folders.   The Catalog itself had been copied & put on my Desktop previously, but now that a few thousand pics have been aded, I want to copy just the new stuff.
    I probably should have started a new Catalog - but I didn't.
    Using LR3.4.1 and Macs

GPW - I know you can export a single folder as a catalog so if you only have a few top-level folders, you could export those from the laptop as individual catalogs then import them into the main catalog.  You may also be able to select multiple folders and export them but it is unclear from the menu item (which does not change to plural) and I have not tested that. feature.
I tend to work on my laptop when away from home and wanting to label and cull images before importing to my main machine.  I do like keeping a single database though so I make sure to export the entire catalog from the laptop, import it into my desktop and when I have verified that it is there and backed up I delete the images from the catalog on the laptop.  That way I never have two versions of the same image.  Just a thought, not sure exactly of your work flow but wanted to share what works for me.
As an aside, if you do Keyword on the laptop, be sure to import a keyword listing from the desktop that respects your hiearchy or you will be creating new, duplicate keywords all over the place

  • I clicked and drug music into my itunes library folder inI clicked and drug music folders stead of adding it with itunes. how do i get itunes to see the new music?

I drug music folders into my itunes folder instead of useing the add folder feature in itunes. What do I do now to allow iTunes to see and play this new music? There is now about 40 gigs of music like this in a 140 gig library.

    NTG,
Dragging them into the iTunes folder does not add them to the library.  However, you can still add them to the library by finding the new location you dragged it to, and using the command File > Add folder to library.

  • Reimporting files to catalog added a "-2" to all my files. Help!

I had to redo my entire catalog(bad initial planning) and ALL of my .CR2 files have a "-2" at the end of the file name (example: 0001.CR2 is now 0001-2.CR2).  Now whenever i export with custom date and file name, it only adds the number two as the file name.  Is there any way to remove the "-2" within Lightroom 5 to avoid redoing my catalog again?

Asking the obvious.....do you keep a backup copy of all your catalog file(s) and picture files updated on a regular basis? You should never attempt moving files in-mass without a full backup of everything. If your backup copy still has the original filenames it should be a simple matter of restoring everything to their original folder locations and copying back the most current LR catalog file backup.
If everything is now corrupted, unrecoverable, and no backup you can probably use a plugin to batch rename and remove the -2 from the CR2 files. Here's an example:

I suggest reading all comments at the above link before deciding on the best renaming method.

  • Possible to remap A LOT of folders in catalog?

Is it possible to use "Locate missing folders" feature for MANY folders which were just physically moved from one drive to another? I'm talking about HUNDERDS of folders which were moved from fast internal drive to slower external drives for archiving, however occassional access to the pictures is needed.
    Thanks!

    Victor,
I understand your reluctance to find them all individually.  If the folders are in some kind of structure that lightroom knows about, i.e. you moved a whold folder tree or several trees, you can do it with less work. Finding the topmost folder will find all its subfolders.
If they are all at the topmost level, you're going to have trouble. Have you thought of hiring one of your kids or a friend who likes to do repetitive tasks?
If access to the master images is indeed occasional, you could leave them all as not found until you need to access an image, and then tell Lightroom to find its folder. That might spread the workload out so it doesn't feel so onerous.

  • How prevent shared folders to be added as attachment in apple mail?

    All,
The thing just happend. One of the network users wrote a new mail (in apple's mail app) and instead of attaching one file, the user by accident double clicked the shared folder, and mail started attaching the 8.1 Gb folder. This never happend before and I like to prevent this. Should I go to server admin>afp>sharepoints? And unshare the folder? But are they still able accessing the files?
Help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Harry

Your current approach will not likely work, as there is no means to selectively set permissions for an application in the fashion that would be required here.
You'd need not only need indication of and the involvement of the active mail client, you'd also need some way to deal with either the specific type of data involved or the specific quantity involved, and I don't know of any means of communicating that across the mail client and the security system. (Blocking all access to Shared files is easy. Blocking just mail attachments? Not so easy.
I can't think of a way that would work here with a typical access control list (ACL) implementation scheme (Mac OS X has decent ACL support), short of a whole lot of kernel customizations or something like a programmable sending-related trigger scheme within mail, and AFAIK, there are no "outbound" rules within Apple mail client.
And is this case hunting fleas with anvils? (read: Something that's possible, but a whole lot of work.) How often does this particular case arise? If it's happening frequently and is not being addressed by some targeted training, then you probably don't really have a technical problem, you probably have a personnel and/or managerial problem here, and those don't lend themselves to technical fixes.
To pursue the maximum message size within the Microsoft Exchange product, then you have an Exchange qustion and not a Mac OS X (Server or client) question.
I don't run Microsoft Exchange servers, so I have no particular familiarity with the settings and options of that product. Based on some quick Googling, have a read of Microsoft's [Understanding Message Size Limits|http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124345.aspx] as a start, or Google around for the details of whatever version of Exchange is in use here.

  • When in iTunes can you "Add to Library" when new folders have been added but not in your library collection

or will they make duplicates of what is already there? If so, what is the best way to update the library?

I'm not sure I understand your question.  If a file already exists and you add a second copy of it, it will add it again and you'll have a duplicate.  It has no way of knowing that one copy of the file is identical to the other.  If you add the same file twice it may notice it as the same as one that is already there and ask you about it first.
