Folders in email Account?

How do I set up folders to move inbox mail to for storage?

You can't do it on the iPad. You have to do it on the server in your web mail. I think that you can only create folders in an IMAP email account - and I stress "I think". I do know however, that the folders cannot be created in the Mail app directly on the iPad.

How do I add folders into an email account?

You can add a folder if you are running iOS 5. Go into your mailbox in the mail app. Select "Edit" in the upper right hand corner of the mailbox column. At the bottom of the column, a button labeled "New Mailbox" will appear. Select the button, give the folder a title (they call it mailbox throughout, but you're really creating a folder). If you want to next the new folder within existing folders, click on your mailbox title under "Mailbox Location" and it will show you any existing folders. You can then leave it at the top selection to make it a high level folder, or select another folder to nest the new one inside.
    Hope that helps!

  • I have an iPad with IMAP email accounts set up but I can find no "inbox, drafts, trash" folders anywhere, either on my ipad or desktop Mac.  How can I set them up?  They do not show on my MacMail preferences either and I can find no way to add them.

I have an iPad with IMAP email accounts set up but can find no "inbox, drafts, trash" folders for each email account anywhere on my iPad or in Mac Mail.   How can I set them up? I can't find anyway to set them up anywhere.  Thanks

    Hello blu monkey,
I found some resources that I think might help with the visibility of your IMAP email folders on your iPad and Mac.
On your iPad, you may need to follow the steps in this article to make sure your folders are visible:
iOS: If IMAP Mail folders are not visible
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1393
On your Mac, I am not sure if you have the sidebar enabled, but you can enable it using the steps in the article below.  When this is showing, you should see your email account listed near the bottom with a triangle next to it.  When the triangle is pointing down, it should show your folders:
Mail (Mountain Lion): Show or hide the sidebar

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • How can I manage six email accounts WITHOUT them all appearing (twice) in the Folders column?

How can I manage six email accounts WITHOUT them all appearing (twice) in the Folders column?
All I need is ONE INBOX (like Windows Mail used to do) ...
I can see in the 'Account' column of each message which email account it's using.
Then, I either junk or read the message, followed by delete or file to one of my created folders.
As it is, half my page is depth is taken up by 12 lines of Account names !!!

That still leaves SIX lines of Account names down the side. All I want is ONE INBOX ... (I can see which account each message belongs to in the 'Account' column...)

I have taken over someone else job so have two email accounts on my Entourage - as the past account had all the folders and past emails when I sync my mail onto my iphone I can not see the folders and any past emails. How can I sync all of her old mail account info (emails and folders) to my email account to make ONE email account?!

I thought that originally too, but that's all changed with the pool of apps that are out there now. So now what I'm trying to do is to prove that technology is progressing to the point where a tiny, handheld phone can produce images that are nearly as good as photos taken with much more expensive and bulky equipment. I've got my share of expensive bulky camera equipment, but I'm finding that I'm having much more enjoyment out of using my iPhone from initial capture, to editing, to publishing, and achieving results that are nearly as good.
I do think you're working under a bit of a handicap. For example, lens quality. Here's an iPhone photo example of some wild turkeys in the neighborhood masked by flare that would be much better controlled on an SLR lens (click to enlarge - the flare is obvious, the turkeys are not):
At the same time, working under a handicap can definitely spur creativity, similar to the oft-cited example of swapping out your zoom lens for a prime to force yourself to pay attention to composition.
It's an interesting concept - I wish you luck!

  • How do I create folders on my email account?

When I open my email account on the Internet it shows all my emails in their respected folders that I created and organized. Unfortunately, when I try to open my account on the desktop email app they provide for us (the postage stamp with the bird) it does not show any of my folders and just has all my emails under ?not junk" and "junk"..... HOW CAN I CREATE FOLDERS (or organize my emails)?!

    Hi tigergirlie,
First off, how is your email configured in Mail? It sounds like POP (if you just have one folder) versus IMAP. Is that correct? Are you familiar with how to determine that information? Secondly, who is your email provider? Do you know if they offer IMAP access?
POP will download only the content of your Inbox to your Mail application, you'd then be required to create local folders and manage your email (organize it). IMAP, if you like to work with folders would be the preferred solution here. This way the folders that you see on the web will "sync" with the folders in your Mail application.
Not all free email providers offer IMAP, GMail is the only one to my knowledge, at least of the popular ones. Most ISP emails or work/corporate email providers offer IMAP but you'd need to get the appropriate server settings.

  • HT201320 Does my email service provider have to provide the ability for me to create an IMAP email account in order for me to create Sub-folders within Apple Mail?

Hi, Apple Mail provides a function to create sub-folders within my mailbox so that I can group emails of similar subjects or from the same sender. My service provider only provides POP email protocol and the New Folder button does not appear in my Apple Mail account for that service provider. Icloud provides the opportunity for the iPad user to select between POP and IMAP. I can select IMAP and the New Folder button appears allowing me to create sub-folders within the icloud email account. Does this mean I cannot create sub-folders in my email account unless my service provider provides customers with the option of creating an IMAP email account?
This appears to be a problem for quite a few Apple Mail users, but service providers appear reticent to provide a response other than 'use Microsoft Exchange / Hotmail, Google GMail, or some other third party email service provider'. This is why I have chosen icloud as my email service provider. It is Apple and therefore Apple supports it. I have been a Telstra customer for over 15 years and they informed me today, strongly, that they support their own products and services, not Apple products, even though Telstra sell them. When I asked the Telstra Customer Support Manager whether they support Telstra customers, I was informed 'no, because the Telstra customer is not a Telstra product or service'. I have since cancelled my Telstra email account and am in the process of cancelling all of my Telstra services.

Yes. That is what it means. You need an IMAP account in order to create sub folders on the iPad.

How do I save emails in a specific folder in my Documents, NOT in the email account folders.
    Thx,
    Beginner

Open the email, do a save as have it save to the location you want from the drop down menu (You could select desktop and then drag it into a folder in documents) and click save as a .rtf.
Or you can copy and paste into a document (Word, Pages, Text Edit...) Make a folder and put it in docs.

  • Complete transfer of all folders in the email account that is ready to be synced on Thunderbird

Have you created your account as POP or IMAP account? With POP you won't see any folders other than Inbox. With IMAP you may need to subscribe to folders which exist on the server.

  • How do you set up a Yahoo eMail account with all of the folders on an iPad 1st generation?

I setup my account using the Mail settings.  I can retrieve my eMail, but I don't have any of the folders that I have on Yahoo.  Also, when I delete an eMail it does not delete on the server (they reappear when I check mail again).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Correct.
Since email account mailboxes and messages are not included with the iPhone's backup, restoring an iPhone with iTunes if wanted or needed will result in any user created mailboxes and the messages being lost in the process. Just as messages in a POP account's Sent mailbox are lost when restoring an iPhone with iTunes.
No such concern with server stored mailboxes with an Exchange or IMAP account.
A POP account is from the early dark ages of email account access with an email client on a computer when the overwhelming majority had access to a single computer only - before there were laptops and long before there were smart phones.

  • Suddenly my email folders are no longer sub folders under my email account

Everything was as usual this morning and now all of a sudden my email folders no longer show as sub folders under my email account. The InBox is in the middle of the other folders and I can NOT find the main account for which all of my folders were listed under.
I really don't know how else to explain this and just hope someone can give me some help.
    Thanks.

If I had just waited for your response I could have saved myself a lot of stress and work.
What you suggested is exactly what I finally found out. I have NO idea how I managed to change that option.

  • Multiple email accounts stored in local folders

My previous installation, all my email accounts shared the same folder structure ie Inbox, Sent, Deleted etc in LOCAL FOLDERS and my own directory storage setup also in LOCAL FOLDERS. Due to a complete hardware failure and subsequent reinstallation I cannot replicate this; I can set up the local folders as was as I maintained a backup, but each email address I set up now has its own set of Inbox, Sent, Deleted etc. I can set up a rather complex set of message filters but this was not previously required. Any ideas??

You are talking about Pop mail accounts set up as a Global account.
    see info here:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Global_Inbox
'''How to change pop mail account into a Global Inbox Local Folders account.'''
    * Go into 'Offline' mode - this will stop any downloads.
how to quickly swap to offline -
you do not need to synch folders. click on two blue screen icon located bottom left in status bar it should change to two black screen icon - this is offline mode.
    * If you have any emails in the pop mail account folders, then move all emails from the mail account into Local Folders.
Then go into Account Settings to set up Global Inbox:
    * Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account
    or
    * Menu Icon > Options > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account
    * click on 'Advanced' button
    * select: Inbox for different account 'Global Inbox (Local Folders)'
    * select 'Include this server when getting mail'
    * click on OK
    * Check settings for other folders and filters
    * then do same for the other pop mail accounts that needt o use same Inbox
    * Click on OK to close and save settings.
    * '''Now Close Thunderbird - this is important'''
wait a few moments for background processes to complete.
Open Thunderbird It should restart in online mode, If it doesn't, clickon the two black screen icon to swap to online mode.
The pop mail accounts should disappear from the Folder Pane and now only show the Local Folders.
All emails will be downloaded to Local Folders Inbox.

  • I just purchased an iPad 3 and it works great with most of my email accounts, but with an imap account from school it will download the content of the folders in the account, but doesn't download the messages in the inbox.

    Hi,
I just purchased an iPad 3 and it works great with most of my email accounts, but with an imap account from school it will download the content of the folders in the account, but doesn't download the messages in the inbox. I have deleted and created the account several times. I have checked the status of the account and it's active and works either from safari or from my Mac or iPhone. I have turned off both my Mac and my iPhone as not to have competing devices, I can even send emails from the account successfully. It simply won't download the content of the inbox. Help!

Hi Csound1, thanks. The email host is 1and1.co.uk, however, i am going to fess up and make myself look like a plonker now -
the email account in question was set up in Outlook as POP - stupid, stupid, stupid me, wasted an afternoon on this!  I have now changed the Outlook account to IMAP and Mail.app works perfectly - and looks much nicer than Outlook did.  Im in the middle of converting from Windows to a Mac, and still finding my way around the Mac
The lesson learned, never assume - always double  check!  All my other email addresses with 1and1 are all imap, except this one, and it happened to be the first one I set up in the Mail.app. (bows head in disgrace!)
Thank you anyway for attempting to help me!
    Cheers
