Folders in folder?

is there a way to put a folder inside a folder on the iphone? for example i have a folder called "camera pictures" is there a way to add another sub-folder INSIDE that folder with another name like "vacation" or something?

How do you even have a folder called "camera pictures" at all?
Assuming you mean the Camera Roll album in the Photo Library, no. You can't create a nested album.
You might search for other photos apps that allow more management--someone else suggested Portfolio is worth a try, search for it.

Managing and distributing Folders with folder actions to a group of users?

I want to set up a server for a camera club on a SnowLeo Server running on a MacMini. We want to collect images every month from users who want to participate in a club competition and are looking into the FileSharing service on the server to collect the images.
My initial idea was to find a way of letting the Administrator automatically create folders with folder actions in every users home folder (i.e. "2010-April-Portraits"). After the user had uploaded images into it, the folder action would then rename, reformat and transport images into a central location to be processed further.
Is this a good way of collecting data, and if yes - how do I let the Admin create and distribute these folders with the appropriate actions?

Hi,
I want to purchase a Macmini with SL Server and create a photo competition solution for a camera club. The solution needs to be able to accept uploaded images and the solution needs to let the user associate a set of images to a competition and from there the solution needs to make sure that the filename, format, size and embedded metadata is correct before storing and processing them further. Friends I have talked to say I need a classic CMS solution so I may need to investigate instead of my planned AppleScript/Automator solution.
Also - thank you for offering to develop, but I had kinda planned to do this myself to build some knowledge and also get to know the server better.
Anyone else using the SnowLeo server for a solution like this?

Finding a folders parent folder

How can you find out what a folders parent folder is ?
The view WWSBR_ALL_FOLDERS has the folder information (id, name etc.) but doesn't have anything to indicate what the parent folder is.
This view runs off the table WWV_USER_CORNERS which contains a parentid column.
Is it best to create a custom view to query on or has anyone used a different view with the information in ?

Did not realize that wwsbr_all_folders view does not expose the parent_id!!
I have updated the view script, see below, to expose a parent_folder_id column.

Problem With Elements 10 Organizer Showing Wrong Files in Folders (In Folder View)

I just got started using Elements 10 on Windows XP and have had some problems with the Organizer. Once it was installed and had cataloged all my photos, I made sure to only move files and folders to different locations from within Organizer. However, now it seems to have lost track of which photos are in which folder. It will "remember" that there are 3 photos in a folder (in Folder View) and only show three photos in that folder, but they will be 3 random photos from a different location. Opening that item shows that thumbnail and referenced file are the same, so it isn't just a thumbnail problem. And looking in the actual folder with Windows Explorer shows that right photos. I'm not sure if I should run an Optimize or Repair on the catalog or if there is something else I can do to fix the problem. I don't need to use Folder View too often, but sometimes I do and I use it to reorganize the actual locations of files. Not sure what would happen if I did it now (with the obvious catalog confusion).

Image size. I have been scanning old 35mm images. Any image greater than about 8100 pixels causes thumbnails to fail - this sounds like being around 2 to the power of 23 but what a really odd combinatin that is.
8100 pixels? All of my photos are larger than that, and I don't have this problem. Do you mean 8100 pixels on a side? There is a known limitation in PSE that photos above a certain pixel size on a side cannot be displayed in the Organizer. I no longer remember what that size is, perhaps someone else can chime in. Scanning your images to be 8100 pixels on a side would be overkill for me; however maybe for you its an important thing to do.
I have about 10,000 photos in the catalog but need to load up about another 5,000 historic images, and we take about 1,500 images per annum.
This is not a problem for PSE.
I have played with databases, so if i can get into the organizer database (at least to do backups), ideally with Access, that would be brilliant. Any suggestions?
If you are going to play with the database through Acess, I think you will fail. I believe that PSE uses SQLite as its database, so you have to use SQLite to view the contents. If you are going to do this, work only on a copy of the database. As this is a long-standing bug in PSE (since at least PSE6), and no one that I know of has found a workaround, and people have reported that the rest of PSE behaves as if the photos are where they are expected to be, my guess is that the bug is in the way PSE displays the photo location in folders. And if that's the case, that the database is correct and its only the display that is incorrect, then there's really nothing you can do to fix that; monkeying around with the database itself won't help.

I agree with you, this is a shame that PSE has this problem and it has gone unfixed since PSE6. Your choices are:
use tags and captions and notes to organize in Thumbnail view, and not use Folder Location View
stop using Organizer, use your operating system to browse your folders, only use the PSE Editor
switch to Lightroom, which has a quality Organizer (called the "Library Module") that doesn't seem to have this particular bug, and in general seems very solid, behaves well and is relatively bug free. (Lightroom 3 currently on sale in the vicinity of $79 (USD) as the anticipation is that Lightroom 4 will be released soon)
switch to other organizing software, there are many, but I make no recommendations as I have tried only PSE and Lightroom

Groupware synchronization folders Default Folder

7.0 EhP1. running v10.29.07 with all the latest updated SAP notes.
In my Outlook, I have mulitple contact folders & calendars but I do not see them all in Synchronization tab where you set the Appointments, Contacts, Task. Below the Default Folder I see a 2nd choice with my email address, it almost looks like there is more text but the Folder tab can not be made wider.
I'm researching Outlook, and I don't see anything I can set in the properties that makes one calendar different than any other folder.
The FAQ in SAP Help for groupware just says >> Then specify the required Groupware folder.

No Folders for Folder Mappings when enabling AppXRay

When I enable AppXRay on an existing project it asks me to Specify Folder Mappings. The Add button brings up the New Folder Mapping dialog. The Folder field is disabled and when I click Browse the Choose Folder dialog says "No Entries Available".
This project is a "sub-project" inside of a larger projects composed of several Eclispe projects. Could this be causing Folder Mapping to show no folders available?

The problem was that the project I was trying to enable AppXRay on is a sub-project of another project in the workspace. When I opened the containing project then the Choose Folder dialog shows folders from that project. Adding them doesn't satisfy AppXRay because it knows that they are from another project.
I found two ways to deal with this:
Check out the subproject on its own instead of importing it from the containing project. This means that I have two copies of the sub-project, which isn't ideal.
A better way is to delete the containing project from the workspace, leaving the files intact. Then I can import the sub-project I'm interested in. I can manage the containing project using Europa from a different workspace.
So I've got two versions of Eclipse using two different workspaces. One manages the whole project. Workshop only deals with the sub-project, so there is the potential for a conflict. In reality this shoudn't happen since I rarely deal with the containing project.
I'm wondering, though. Is this inability to do Folder Mapping for AppXRay on a subproject of another project in the same workspace something that was done by design or is this inadvertent?

Apple script to replace content in specific folders with folder names in csv

How to ZIP the files and folders/sub folder files using java

I'm New to this Forum, Could anybody tell me how to zip the files and folders/sub folders using java. For example I have a folder with the name testfolder and side that folder I have some files and some sub folders inside subfolders I have some other files. I need to ZIP the files and folders as they are in same hierarchy.

PSE9 - can a slide show be created from multiple folders in folder order?

I keep my pictures in folders by year. In all other releases of Photoshop Elements I could select keywords, display them from all folders, then create a slide show from all folders in file name within folder order. Is this still possible in PSE9? I tried sorting them in the Quick Reorder screen and couldn't figure out what order it put them in. I find it frustrating having to rearrange all the pictures.

If you are looking for a way to show files in date order then you can do so using the option Media Browser arrangement shown on top right of image well. You can choose Date Newest First or Oldest First as required. In folder view of PSE 9 you will be shown files that have been i mported from that folder only. You can turn on the timeline(Ctrl + L) to navigate between folders.

SUDDEN DISAPPEARANCE OF ALL FOLDERS FROM FOLDER PANEL

I use LR5, iMac ans 10.8.5. Have done so sucessfully for some years.
Suddenly all the folders listed in the folders panel have vanished. The photos all appear to be present, but there is absoultely no folder tree.
I was dragging an image from one folder to another, while in LR. When I let up on the mouse all the folders were gone. I have not been able to show them. I don't want to close LR for fear that I will lose all the days work.
I SHOULD ADD THAT I JUST NOTICED THAT THERE IS AN ASTERISK NEXT TO THE FOLDERS SELECTION IN THE DROPDOWN MENUS FOR THE FOLDERS PANEL.
I fear I have touched some combination of keys and/or mouse clicks.
Do not want to try to reload catalog as am afraid will lose todays work, or more.

I suspect whatever damage may have been done to catalog (probably none) is now water under the bridge - you might as well shutdown Lightroom and try again - probably it's an Lr/UI bug thing, and not a catalog thing (my publishing services used to do a similar disappearing act - had nothing to do with catalog).
Maybe give that comment a few hours to percolate here on the forum before you act, in case somebody knows better...

Is it possible to make Smart Folders remember the folder settings? (folder size, width of columns etc.)
In Tiger if I altered the folder size (drag the bottom right corner) & a column width (e.g. Name or Last Opened) it would be the same next time I opened it.
But in Leopard it always reverts back to the original small size where file name are cut off.

Sorry about that. I just assumed that the SmartFolder would respond like a normal folder. As you know it doesn't because it is really a database query document.
There is a possibility of you being able to create the equivalent of the SmartFolder query using the Find suite of actions in the Spotlight library and then pass the result to the Copy action.
If not then this is a workaround based on directly using the SmartFolder document.

How can I bring in folders preserve folder?

I have a nice set of commercial audio tracks that I purchased for video editing. Having them in iTunes is great for browsing. The problem is that they aren't organized. I'd love to import the entire set(50 or so folders) and have iTunes preserve the folder structure. Any way accomplish this?

Rich, Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and make sure that "Keep..." and "Copy..." are both not checked.
Then place the folder where you want it, and add the tracks via the command File > Add Folder to Library.
Do it first with a small folder so you can see how it works.

A folder action is triggered when something is added (or removed) from the attached folder - there isn't a variation that will activate when a file is modified. Another option would be to schedule a periodic script that uses the rsync shell utility.

Moving files/folders in Folder view to new drives/partions etc?

If I open the Organizer in Folder view mode & drag a folder or individual pictures to another location will each the pathway to each individual picture be updated by PSE 10? The reason that I ask is that I would like the Organizers pathway to better reflect the actual locations of my Hard drive.
If this works will doing this also work across different hard drives & partitions?
It would be nice to end up with folder sub folder tree to closely reflect that of the Organizer

Yes just drag and drop.
It’s easier putting everything in say My Pictures. Sometimes external hard drives are right at the bottom of the left hand panel and dragging whilst expanding the tree can be a bit tricky.
