Folders in my Mail

A few days ago I had major problems for several days with my 2009 iMac, finally ending up going to the local Apple store. First let me say they were incredibly knowledgeable, sweet and patient with this old lady.
It ended up where they had to completely trash my HD thinking it was either a HD gone/going bad or kernel panics. It just kept shutting down on me frequently, whether I was on it working or coming back to it later in the day. Anyway, here's the problem. Mail.
Luckily, I've had an external HD, Toshiba, for a couple of years, and that saved my backside royally. They were even gracious enough to spend the 3 hours we were there getting all my bookmarks back. So really, they were a lifesaver. BUT in Mail, which is a bit different looking now and I elected to use the OLD view since that's what I'm used to. BUT, when I used to want to save a message I had "folders" I would save them to since I have 5 different emails for various things. For the life of me I cannot remember how to add them now. When it's been years since I've had to do any of this, can someone please explain how to make them now? I had one for each of the emails and just dragged them there to save for future reference instead of cluttering up my inboxes. Can anyone refresh my memory on how to do it? They were on the sidebar below where the Trash is. TIA
Connie

Click the + on the bottom left then select New Mailbox, name it what you want then OK.

I have Yahoo mail provider but just lost my folders in Mac Mail program. The folders were not "On my Mac" but on "Yahoo". How do I get them back again? I have reinstalled MacMail as everything had disappeared. The new install has given me everything except the Yahoo folders. When I looked one of the folders had reappeared, but now it has gone again. I am using Yosemite.
Desperate to find those folders with so much data involved.

Thanks for that babowa. If I add my Yahoo account it just goes straight to MacMail and says I already have an account. There seems to be no basic problem with mails going between Macmail and Yahoo. It is just the folders that have disappeared, while MacMail was out of action. I don't think those particular folders were ever on the Yahoo mail that I access through BT, they were just on the MacMail under "Yahoo" as opposed to "On my Mac". I am worried in case I lose what I already have if I press "Restore" from my back up. As you can see, I am not exactly good at this!

  • How do you get your Iphone to show sub folders in the mail program?

    Hallo
I Have a lot of sub folders in the mail program, that I use to distribute my mails according to projects but they do not show on my Iphone? Is this function not possible?
    Thanks!

I didn't set anything - it just happened. I think it only works for IMAP accounts. If yours is IMAP, the only thing I can think of is to delete the account and set it up again

Assuming this is an iCloud mail account, sign out of iCloud in its preference pane, then sign back in with the new password.

  • MobileMe top-level folders not accepting mail messages

    Strange thing...
Now that iPhone has "push" mail, I decided to take all my mail from Mail.app on my mac up to my MobileMe account. I wanted to do this as-is, but it's not quite that simple... However, the whole folder structure and all e-mails therein are now happily living in MobileMe.
Except that they are not! All the Top-Level folders that contain other folders are now white in Mail.app, and don't exist at all in MobileMe. It's as if all folders were one level higher than they should be - all folders directly contained in a white parent folder appear as top level folders in MobileMe!! On the iPhone, they do exist, but their names are greyed out. Both in Mail.app and on the iPhone, they are empty and you cannot add mail messages to them even though, in Mail.app "on my Mac" they still contain mail and will happily accept mail messages...
What gives? Is there something I need to do to change them from "folder folders" into "mail folders that happen to also have folders in them"???

Not a single answer or post on this...
I decided to create new folders and add a dummy place holder message in them, then move over all the subfolders to this one. There was a bit of strange behaviour when synchronising with MobleMe (old folder disappeared without my deleting it, etc) but now all is well and all my top level folders can accept mails.
During the process, it seems like MobileMe didn't know that these folder existed - when renaming or deleting them, I do an error saying that they did not exist. Indeed, on MobileMe, they did not exist and this resulted in all the first level subfolders being at the top level in me.com - very messy. It looks a lot better now!

  • Creating file folders in iPad mail

Is it possible to create mail folders in iPad mail, or is there an app that let's you organize mail into folders

It depends on what email provider your using to make a new folder. For example I use gmail and coustum folders in gmail are called labels. Don't ask me why they are called labels... You can add a folder from the iPad and here is how to do it with gmail.
Open a new browser window in Safari...
Type in google.com in the URL address bar...
Click on Gmail in the menu...
Type in your user name and password...
When Gmail loads, look at the bottom of the page and click on basic HTML...
You can add folder (labels) in two places. From the settings (top right), label tab. Or from the  left hand column, labels, edit labels...
Add the a new label with a name...
You can add as many folders (labels) to you liking.
Click on the email icon app. If the new folder doesn't show up hit the home button and click on the email app again, the new folder should show up.
Once you have done this a few times you'll get a good workflow.
I'm sure you can do this with other email providers that let's you access your email by way of a bowser page.

  • Empty import folder when importing Mac Mail 6.5 folders to Mac Mail 4.5

When importing Mac Mail version 6.5 folders into Mac Mail version 4.5 the resulting import folder is completely empty.  The import process happens instantaneously and no error occurs.  Does anyone know if 6.5 is not backwards compatible with 4.5?

That's almost as ludicrous as the reason I'm trying to import new mail into an older version.  At least I know now to quit trying.  Thanks for the answer.

  • Folders in E Mail

Got email program that works fine in ipad, but it seems that only thing i can do with emails is delete or leave in ever increasing list. Is there any way to make individual folders to store different emails from different people. The only folders i can find is Inbox and delete, but cannot make any others.
Only using one email account, not sure if that helps.
    Cheers

You cannon create email folders in the Mail app. If it's an IMAP account then you can set up folders on your computer and they should then appear on th iPad; if it's a POP account then you are stuck with what you see.

  • I've deleted all of mail, including trash and sent folders, but my mail usage stays high at around 1.4 gb. What am I missing?

I've deleted all of mail, including trash and sent folders, but my mail usage stays high at around 1.4 gb. What am I missing?

It is possible it just hasn' updated yet.
    Try resetting:
Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

  • Why my smart folders dissapear in mail when i close mail application in mountain lion?

Why my smart folders dissapear in mail when i close mail application in mountain lion?
    Please help!

My results jumped up from around 1000 to 10,000 when I did that.
I think this may have to do with having x11 and xcode installed.
In case anyone is interested, these are the folders I've had to exclude:
    User\Library\Developer
    System\Library\Frameworks
opt in the root folder of the HD (this is x11. You may have to Finder's 'go to folder' option to get to it.)
There was also Office stuff coming up which looks like it's from the system when you see it (the identities folder and the subfolder within the Office 2011 folder in Applications)
The combination of this stuff seemed to create the impression of more files from the System and Library folders were coming up than actually were.
In case anyone is still reading, the stuff *still* being thrown up that I'm aware of is
Mountain Lion screensavers from the System and Library folders.
PreferencePanes - System, PreferencePanes - User and PreferencePanes - Library folders, which each show up as individual results.
But, as you say, bispymusic, perhaps Apple has deigned that those folders appear in results. Thanks a lot for your help! Have a good one.

  • Create new folders for e-mail?

Is it possible to create folders for e-mail? Or does this sync with e-mail accounts? I use comcast.net and none of my folders show up on my iPhone. Any info. would be appreciated.

With an IMAP account only and Comcast provides POP account access only.
A POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
An IMAP account is designed to be accessed with an email client on multiple computers or devices with the ability to keep all server stored mailboxes synchronized with the server automatically with all email clients used to access the account, and the ability to create additional server stored mailboxes to sort/store received or sent messages by category which will also be kept synchronized with the server automatically with all email clients used to access the account.
With an IMAP account, you can also store sent messages on the server. Send a message with the iPhone's Mail client and the message will be available in the account's Sent mailbox automatically when checking the account with the email client used on your computer to access the account, and vice-versa.
This is not possible with a POP account.

  • Search across multiple folders in the Mail application...

Is it possible to search across multiple folders using the Mail application in Windows 10?  I can't seem to find that option.
    Thanks in advance,
    M

    Hi Mapper99,
If you mean the following search:
You may click on the search icon on the top of the message list, then it will show out like the picture above, you could choose to search in the current folder, or you may choose All folders as listed.
It is almost the same settings in Windows 8.1, you may follow this guide for the other options:

Have I set the connection between Hotmail and my Mac incorrectly? It was very automated so I don't know what I did incorrectly. Can anyone out there give me a tip?

  • My inbox shows that I have 69 emails, but the pane to the right is completely blank. Other folders will show mail (trash, junk)

My inbox shows that I have 69 emails, but the pane to the right is completely blank. Other folders will show mail (trash, junk). It was working fine but I don't know what happened to emails. I know they are there, and I know the server is sending correctly (comcast)

If you select a mailbox, you should get an Edit button (easier to see in landscape mode). Clicking the button will provide you with check circles for the messages. You also get Delete and Move buttons at the bottom. Check the messages you want to move and then navigate to the mailbox you want to drop them into. I think as long as you can navigate to a mailbox you can move the messages to it.
In the Mac Mail application and probably Outlook on the Windows side, you also setup rules to move messages to specific mailboxes. If the mailboxes are stored on the server, then you can have the sorting done on the server and they should appear that way on the iPad. If your later messages do not show up, you may need to have the iPad app pulled down more messages until they are all showing.
