Folders Jump on Import

When I import photos my folders constantly jump un and down making it very hard to choose the correct folder. How do I stop this?

Me too. It is driving me nuts. I have a multi-card USB-reader plugged in which appears as a drive letter between F: and J: dependent on which slot I have a card in. For SD cards it appears as J: . With no card inserted, the full Import window of Lightroom 4.3 intermittently shows a Devices heading above Files, with a drive "F:\(Camera or Card Reader)". The drive letter is always F: . The state toggles every 1 to 2 seconds, making it very difficult to select the desired subfolder on disk. See screen-shots below which show the alternating states.
I am running Windows 8 Pro x64, and don't think I've encountered this behaviour in a previous version of Lightroom.

It started this a couple of weeks ago and I had a friend come fix it just 2 days ago. It took him several hours and I lost all tags I had on over 10,000 pictures. Now it has done it again. • I have been trying to import old family dads into iMovie. I receive the following message "None of the selected files or folders can be imported"

I have been trying to import old family dvd's into iMovie. I receive the following message "None of the selected files or folders can be imported" Is there a problem with the format not being recognized by Imovie? Same home dvd's work on internal dvd player. Any Ideas?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Folders disappear once imported?

When I am importing new images from my HDrive (where I want the masters) I choose ADD. Once imported, the folders all look great...the main folder is there ie GUJARAT and the subfolders are there too ie Gujarat 1, Gujarat 2 etc. When I close LR, and reopen, the folders have disappeared and do not show up under my HD on the left hand side. However, the photos are there in the main top folder which is my HD. When i locate the photo it does not say it is missing, however, the folder GUJARAT and the subfolders are not to be seen. WHY??? Should I be choosing COPY instead of ADD? or creating a new catalogue? I imported thousands before in this way and never had a problem. Now, my folders and subfolders are not showing up, although the photos are still there......whats going on??? HELP!

No, they don't appear. The total number of photos in the external hard drive (called Little Russian) indicates that the photos are there, have been imported, but they do not show up in the designated folders. I also went to Varanasi and Kerala on that trip, and downloaded the folders fine...they show up with all the subfolders. When I was travelling, I would download my memory cards onto my laptop desktop, then put them on a Lacie Rugged portable hard drive. Then I imported them into LR. I backed them up on another portable Rugged HD. Once at home, I moved those files to the desktop external hard drive called Little Russian. When I opened LR, the photos said they were missing, so I redirected them to Little Russian hard drive and all was fine. This worked well with the Varanasi and the Kerala photos. However, when I went to do the same with the Mumbai, Goa and Gujarat files, they all seemed to import, but the folders would not show up on the left hand side under Little Russian in LR, even though the photos are there, and the count of photos is indicated and correct in the main folder called Little Russian.  Here is what it looks like: Little Russian 13,985  - INDIA 2012       - Kerala 2212              - kerala 1              -kerala 2 etc       -Varanasi 3822               - varanasi 1               - varanasi 2 etc
Under INDIA 2012 I imported Mumbai and Goa but they don't show up( but the photos are there under the Little Russian main folder)Under Little Russian, I imported Gujarat with 13 subfolders and nothing shows up ( and the photos are there under the Little Russian main folder)I also imported some photos from Mexico as a folder under Little Russian and they are there too, but the folder does not show up.
I tried to click on the folder Little Russian and click add a folder...when I name it Gujarat, it says it is already there and I cannot have two folders of the same name.
I tried to click on GO TO FOLDER IN LIBRARY, but nothing seems to happen.
    I can't figure this out.
I am very confused by this....what do you think? I would appreciate any comments.

  • Trying to import a .mov file made with gotomeeting - no problems in past yet says No importable files -None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again.  re-recorded 3 times and still not accepting HELP

Trying to import a .mov file made with gotomeeting - no problems in past doing this. After 3 attempts recording the hour long video and trying to upload it to iMovie, it says No importable files -None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again. What could the reason be?

After much research and troubleshooting, GoToMeeting replied with the final answer: We do not support the uploading of recordings to editing software. If you are having issues uploading a recording, unfortunately, we do not have tools or steps to resolve this. It is not a supported feature. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The no longer plan to support editing of recordings made with their software.  So, we are planning to find a new meeting provider.

First thing that I would do is boot in Safe Mode, and choose System Restore, choosing a System Restore Point from a time before you started deleting files.
Now, I am totally unclear which files you deleted. Were you downloading the updated driver for your ATI graphics card, or something else entirely different?
    Which files did you delete?
Had you downloaded and installed the latest driver yet?
The normal process for updating a video driver is:
1.) from the mfgr's. Web site, locate your video card and your OS.
    2.) download that driver.
3.) read the mfgr's. instructions for installing that driver. This is very important, as it might be as simple as just launching the executable file, or quite involved, requiring the removal of a previous driver, or changing settings in the card's utility program. These steps can differ card to card, and even driver version to driver version, so it is VERY important to read all instructions and understand exactly what you must do, and in which order you will need to do them.
4.) create a new System Restore Point. Note: some driver installers will do this as part of their scheme. Do not trust that this will happen. Do a manual System Restore Point and name if something like "Prior to Driver xxxxx," using the driver's number.
5.) install the new driver, per those very important instructions. One might have to Extract files and folders from the downloaded file. Sometimes the driver file(s) will be archived in something like a RAR, ZIP or 7Z file. This will depend on how the driver files are packaged. Often, it will just be an executable file, like an EXE, or similar.
6.) reboot and make any necessary setup adjustments. Often, with the reboot, a dialog screen will come up automatically, and maybe even a wizard to do the settings.
    What steps did you take?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Using Multiple-level folders in lightroom import

Let's say I want to import images into the following directory structure  "USA\New York"  where "USA" and therefore "New York" does not exist.   I cannot use "Into Subfolder" as multilevel directories can not be entered here.
So I need to create the USA folder first and then import into "New York" ( switch lightroom will automatically create if it doesn't exist).
To create the "USA" folder I can click here:
This displays a windows dialog to create the new "USA" folder
After clicking on Select Folder we return to Lightroom but newly created and selected folder does not appear in the destination folder list:
The only way I can figure out how to add the USA folder is to exist Import and get into it again.
Once in appears in the list I can create the New York folder during the import by adding it here:
Why do I have exit the import dialog and start it again to see the "USA" folder, especially when it was selected and passed back to Lightroom ?
Is there way to refresh the folder list in the destination list without exiting Import ?
For me it makes no sense to add the ability to create a folder and then Lightroom doesn't use it.
    Regards,
    Gary

I think the Create New Folder button is designed for the folder the images are to be stored in, which in your case will be a sub-folder. So I guess the parent folder must already exist.
For example I keep all my photos under the year they were taken so it is then easy to create new sub-folders.

  • Is there a note app that features encryption, folders, backup, and import/export?

    Hi friends,
I have been searching for a month for a Notetaking app for the iphone which has these attributes:
able to import/export notes from some form of text file suchas csv. I need to bring over a large number of notes from my android phone. I can perl-script and should be able to massage my data into any format requiredby any text-based importer. I would expect this feature to be based either on itunes or a proprietary sync program on a Mac.
encryption (not just a password), preferably AES-256 bit orhigher
features categories, tags, or folders (any one of these isfine)
able to backup and restore notes in encrypted form, in caseof loss of device
You would think this is a very basic set of features, but I have notbeen able to find anything on the App store that includes all of thesefeatures. If you know of any such app, please let me know.
    Thanks a lot!

There should be some utilities that might do that on macupdate.com if you search around in there. It could be done as a macro action in Photoshop, but that's an expensive solution for this. VueScan could also potentially do it, but is also not cheap.
Also, some of the utilities that come bundled with scanners may be able to do this, but only when running the scanner they came with.
Definitely the features exist on the Mac like auto-recognition of multiple images on a page, auto-rotation, auto-levels, PDF export etc. You just need to find them in the right combination in the right app.

  • Jpegs already in folders won't import into Lightroom 4

All my cr2, nef and tiff files import fine into Lightroom 4. All the jpegs made in DxO import fine into Lighroom. But the jpegs made in Digital Pro Professional aren't recognized in my Library folders. Neither are the jpegs made with in my camera along with the raw files. If I open a tiff file in Capture NX2 to do local dodging and burning it saves it fine within Lightroom and saves those jpegs too.
    Strange?
PS: Using Windows 7x64 home premium, Canon 5D Mk2

Strange? Possibly not.....if the option to "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos" is unchecked in your Lightroom Preferences (General Tab) then Lightroom will only allow the importation of the Raw of a Raw+Jpeg 'pair' (the jpeg is noted and referenced as a 'sidecar' file in the Raw's metadata). That would easily explain the issue of the OOC raw+jpeg pairs, and may explain the issue of the DPP jpegs IF they have the same filename and live in the same folder as their original raw files.

  • Can I set 'watched folders' to automatically import media to my library?

One thing I've long missed in iTunes is the ability to auto-import new music as and when I drag it into one of my music folders. Unfortunately, as I keep my music in a few different places (one large folder for my album collection, one large folder for my iTunes and 'singles' collection, DJ stuff, audio projects for work etc...) the options provided to me by Apple don't really seem like they're going to work for me. For instance, if I click 'File>Add to Library' then it's going to take me forever to remember which tracks are new since I last updated, and in which folders; I can't just re-add the entire folder tree as there's a lot of them and I'll probably end up with a load of duplicate entries. iTunes' supposed 'Automatically add to iTunes' folder also won't work for the same reason. I actually can't see how that folder helps; surely people want to automatically add ALL their new media to their media player program? I can't see anybody placing their whole music collection within a single folder called 'Automatically add to iTunes'?!! Surely there's a better way to watch a variety of folders for new media and import it automatically as it's created??!
    Any suggestions??

That is not how Automatically Add works. Once iTunes notices a file in the Automatically Add folder, it immediately whisks it away to its "natural" iTunes location, i.e. in Artist/Album folders under the designated iTunes Media folder, and creates a library entry. And the Automatically Add folder will be once again empty.
Try it with one file so you can see it in action. Perhaps it will meet your needs.

  • Random picture folders missing after import

I am running a Macbook pro. I use a 120gb external drive to store my photos as i have about 40 gb of both RAW and JPEG images.
I have attempted to import these as referenced images as per the Aperture guide but when the folders are imported random ones are missing.
I have also tried importing a limited number selected folders folders as managed images into aperture but random folders still disapear.
Acoording to the pro DVD that came with aperture importing referanced files by clicking import > "folders as projects" should create a mirror image of my file system on my external hardrive but with thumbnails as opposed to the full sized raw file.
Is this random file import a problem with aperture, or am i doing something wrong?
    thanks,
    Rob

A possibility is that the files have multiple tags, i.e. both id3v1 and id3v2.x. iTunes seems to behave best when there is a single properly populated id3v2.3 tag.
If you move you library properly there is no need to "Add Folder to Library" on the new system and such problems don't arise.

  • How many images/folders can I import at once?

Can I get LR to import a large number of folders within one very large folder? So far it seems to be insisting that I do one folder at a time. (Using LR 2.0 with Windows XP).

Click import, go to the top level folder, select it (single click, not double-click), and in the lower right of the import dialog box click the button that says "Import all photos in selected folder"
That will get all the subfolders. They will all be selected by default, but you can unselect them to suit your needs.

  • Audio Jump on Import

I have just recieved a Sony HVR-MRC1K for use with my Sony Z5 in the hope I could do away with endless capturing hours.
I have a problem in the fact that when I import footage (DV in this case) from the unit using either the RU Util or from CF via Hard Drive to Premiere Pro CS5, I get a jump in audio on every single clip about 1 second in. It's a skip but the video is perfect.
If I play the files back on Media player, it plays with no skip at all.
I have been through this forum and although i have come accross sync issues etc, no one seems to have this problem and since the files play ok in media player I feel the fault is in PP.
I have cleaned the cache and tried varying sequence settings but to no avail,
I have version 5.0.3 running on I7 with 6GB Ram (Win 7 with all latest updates), having read all the manals and forums i have to say this has stumped me. A very annoying problem indeed.
Any suggestions as to the cause and if possible a fix?
I have tried also tried HDV and interestingly it seems miss the last few frames of Audio.
    Thanks in advance.

Rendering the Audio results in the same gap, as does exporting.
I can't see any reason why this is happening as i can't put it down to equpiment.
Why should the file suddenly have created this slight gap when importing into PP?
It happens at a time point of 01:07 of each clip precisely!!!
I wonder if this is happening to others but may not have noticed it due to background noise????
