Folders (OS X Folder Management)

Hi.
I have a question about how OS X organises the workflow of folders.
One thing that I've noticed, is that when I open, for example, my Applications folder, scroll along to a particular application/folder I want, load what I need, and close the folder; the next time that I open my Applications folder, it has automatically scrolled along to where I last launched an application from.
I'd prefer the folder to reset, and show me its contents from the beginning each time I open it.
Is there a way to change the way OS X manages this?
I hope I've described this correctly.
Thanks,
onlyone-jc.

You might try using Column view instead of List view. It behaves the way you want.

  • How to prevent users from creating new folders in share folder directory?

    Hello guys
I'd like to know How to prevent users from creating new folders in share folder directory but still keep their power of creating new folders in their personal 'my folder'?
I tried changing the 'manage privilage ---- create folder' to deny certain user accounts, but by doing so, it also stops the user from creating new folders in their 'my folder', which is not good..
I also tried going into these share folders and tried different access types such as 'change/delete', 'read', 'traverse folder' etc, but none of it work ideally. The 'change/delete' access still allows them to create new folders, 'read' access prevents creating new folders but also take away their power of saving reports..
Any thoughts on how to take away their ability to ONLY create new folders in share folder areas without affecting their other privileges?
    Please advise
    Thank you

Easy, on the shared folders root folder only give them 'read' or 'traverse folder' but on the the folder inside the shared folders root folder give them 'change/delete'. That means they can change anything inside those folders but not create any folders at the shared folders root level.

  • Application Icons appear in Album application. Please provide folder management!!!

Application icons are appearing in the Album Gallery view.  This makes it difficult to find pictures when application icons make up the majority of the pictures.
The .nomedia file method has been attempted which removes the picture from Folder view but the pictures still remain in the Gallery (Home) View.
The Album application would greatly benefit (as well as its users) from have a folder management function that allowed a folder to be manually ignored (or included) and for that setting to be instantly reflected in the Gallery View.
Re-installing the Album app to remove unwanted pictures every time another new application is added to the phone is not an acceptable solution.
Also as the Album application currently stands there is no explanation as to why the Folder list contains the list of folders that it does. There is no explanation of the mechanism for how Folders arrive on the folder list and why certain applications when installed create a new folder while other applications do not!
I.e: My folder list is full of folders I have no want of and some folders not even an understanding of.

Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).
Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

I seem to have hit a bit of a stale mate with our exchange 2010 public folder management and while i think i see things set up wrongly - i'm not sure how to fix or what the consequences are if i did (and since i haven't yet built a sandbox test environment) i thought i would ask the spiceworks community for some helps and tips.So a little back ground first :two physical locations - one UK one USStretch DAGS with US-MBX replicating to UK-CAS and UK-MBX replicating to US-CASALL servers on the same domainProblem i am trying to resolve :One of our users based here in the UK travels to and manages some US staff now. US staff put holidays into a calendar in a public folder. The UK based manager would like to see this calendar.Sounds easy right? (maybe it is and i just need a clip around the napper with the manual). When i look at the public...

Are you using OWA or Outlook to view the public folders?
If you're using OWA, the reason you can't see the folders is that OWA in Exchange 2003 uses WebDAV, which is no longer present in Exchange 2010.
If you're using Outlook, you'll need to use the troubleshooting logs to determine the cause of the problems.
It could be related to Outlook trying to connect directly to 2010 mailbox server instead of CAS. Because normally the mailbox server is installed without the CAS role, it does not allow a direct Outlook connection. Or it could be something else,
    like authentication.

  • Opening all folders in a folder

In OS9 you could open and close all folders in a folder with key strokes. It's been years since I did it, now I have to do it in OS10.3.9 to show all files on disc's I'm creating. Sure could use a little help.

You mean using List view, do a Select All (Command-A) and then hit the right arrow ? Select All again if needed and right arrow again. Left arrow closes all the selected ones at once.
Or did you have another view in mind ?

  • Jsp code (js code) to display(tree) the files and sub folders in a folder

    Hi all
plz can any one send me the source in jsp or js to display in tree structure for files and sub folders in a folder.

There are dozens of Javascript tree widgets available on the Internet. Some are free. Some are good. Google will find them for you.
(The only relevance of JSP to your question is that yes, you can generate HTML that uses one of those Javascript tree widgets.)

  • Folders are called "Folder"

In one site, DreamWeaver suddenly does not show folder and
file names. Instead, all folders are called "Folder" and files are
named by their weight in Kb. If I switch to another site, things
are ok, except in this one. I restarted the computer, recreated the
site cache, disabled cache, enabled cache, nothing seems to work.
Anyone the same problem and solved?

    Simple answer: no.
You're trying to do what many others attempt to do with the
    Templates
folder. If you change the name, you break all the internal
    workings of
    Dreamweaver related with that folder.
If you want to rely on Dreamweaver to look after file
    relationships,
you'll need to comply with Dreamweaver conventions.

    Hi
Is there a way to show folders in Choose Folder - Webpage Dialog window and have the NEW folder option disabled ?
It seems that they are dependent.

    Hi,
Do you have any folders in that document library? When you click choose folder, it will only show you the folders in current library.

  • "Manage Folders" or exporting folder objects slow in Discoverer Admin

    Hi everyone,
I have an issue when we try to export folders from the EUL OR when we do Tools -> Manage Folders from within the Discoverer Administrator application. When I do the export by doing File -> Export, then "Selected objects in the End User Layer", and then select "Folders" in the objects drop down that appears in step two of the export wizard, it takes forever for the folders to come up and be ready for me to select the folders I want. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes. We have the same issue when we do Tools -> Manage Folders, it takes 15 to 20 minutes for the folders to load so we can assign any orphaned folders to business areas.
I put in an SR for this and Oracle is still working this issue. They gave me some registry settings to check and/or set to try to speed this up, but that does not work for me. They are also saying they have not heard of complaints like this in regards to their 11g version.
We are using both the Discoverer 10g (Administrator version 10.1.2.1) and are in the process of testing Discoverer 11g (Administrator version 11.1.1.3). It is doing this in both versions and the behavior is seen on multiple machines. We do not have any machine where the folders load quickly.
During the export wizard, if we select workbooks or item classes to export, it is pretty fast to bring up the list.
Oracle suggested I try doing an export from the command line and I have done that, but it takes about 15 minutes to create the EEX file this way.
I am wondering if anyone else has seen this type of performance issue and if so, was there a solution to improve it.
When we started testing 11g, I was hoping they would have implemented an easy solution to this, like you could right click on a folder in the Business Area and an "Export" option would present itself in the right-click menu, but that was wishful thinking.

    Hi,
You say that it happen from several machines so I would go for the metadata structure in the database, maybe the performance issue starts there?
When is the last time the database schema of the discoverer was maintained ?
did you run statistics on it lately ? maybe there are tables or indexes that need to take care of ?
Those are the tables that holds the metadata for the folders.
I suggest you will rebuild the indexes on the following tables and see if it effect you:
    eul_us.eul5_ba_obj_links
    eul_us.eul5_objs
Anyway i would run statistics for the schema of the discoverer and rebuild the indexes to make sure that the problem doesn't start at the database level.

  • Accidentally moved all photos out of separate folders into single folder!

So somehow I managed to move all of my photo files from my work out of their respective, nicely organized folders into one single folder. I really can't figure out how. All 15,588 of them... now unorganized into a single folder. "Undo" didn't work and I tried restoring from a catalog backup with no success. Also... my Time Machine backup refuses to restore because the disk is messed up, so that's useless. Lightroom still has all of the folders recognized in the catalog but the photos are missing, (?) and I do not want to just "re-link" them and point Lightroom to the photos in the new folder.
So I guess my question is, can I go to each folder in lightroom and physically move all the photos that were previously in that folder BACK into that folder on the system automagically? It seems that lightroom recognizes what folders used to exist there... just can't find them. Well, I know they are all in that one folder and would like Lightroom to move them all back to their appropriate folders. That way when I search for a folder on my computer (not in lightroom), the folder contains the photos that used to be there. I hope this makes sense. I am using Lightroom 4.1 on a Mac running OSX version 10.8.3. Thank you for any and all help.

Sorry IIIMPower, I just saw this post after responding to the other post.

Rob, this sounds like it would work. I downloaded it and installed it and am having trouble editing the advanced settings... I have no idea what to put in the "FROM-PATH" area. Would this be "/Volumes/2TB HD/AUTO RESTORATION?" When I tried that, the plugin did nothing. Any tips on how to get this working?
If your best whack at a correct path failed, then I'll have to add a UI with browse button for ya.
But before I do that, please send me the (preferrably verbose) log file.
    Instructions:
    * Check the 'Verbose Logging' box in top section of plugin manager.
    * Then click the 'Clear logs' button (same section), or reload plugin or restart Lightroom.
    * Click the 'Relocate' button (bottom section of plugin manager).
(use test mode, not real mode)
That will produce a fresh set of verbose logs. To send them to me, click the 'Problem Report' button in the top section of plugin manager.
    UPDATE:
The fromPath should be the flat folder, i.e. where the files will need to be moved from. The location where files will be moved to is: "where they belong", which is known - it's in the catalog.
So if "...Auto Restoration" folder is not the path to the flat folder (it's not, right?) it should not be in the fromPath.
if "...68 Oldsmobile 442" is the flat folder, then it should be in the fromPath (with '...' replaced by the correct path prefix).
*** Important: Relocation Services only relocates selected photos. Thus, you need to select which photos you want to restore before clicking the 'Relocate' button. The results of the relocation should be evident in Lightroom, but complete details are available in the log file. PS - the log file is not only useful for recording details of successful operation, but also may provide a clue if operation is not successful.

  • Can u please help with my huge Photo/Album/Folder Management Project?

Thanks for looking and happy holidays.
    Using 1.5.2
I had all my photos under one external Hard Drive and most were not keyworded. I also have a very large folder (recovered) that I had to recover
lost images during a HD crash so they are simply in folders such as
Recovered/Folder1 and recovered/folder2 and so on...
    Thus far....
I imported all my folders as a project (Pictures-All) into Apeture as well as the "Recovered" folder sucessfully. Each folder came under this project as it was in my External HD.
I did go into each "Recovered" folder and keyword the images, one by one.
    Now...
What is the best way to organize this mess using Aperture to manage the entire library, i.e., all managed files, none referenced.
And how should I handle the yet to be filed under a project "Recovered" folder.
Should I do all this with Smart folders? If so, under a project? How?
I'm thinking that Smart folders are vitural, so as long as I have all my imported images keyworded they will fall into the smart folder and from now
on I keyword every single image. Am I on track?
Being So greatful for any advice.
    Thanks
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
Sounds like lots and lots of fun. More fun than you know what to do with!
First thing I would do is sort on image date, just in case you have dups. .... unless you know you haven't. Create an album and drag all images (or batches of) from projects and recovered to the album. Sort on image date. Deleting any dups. from the album will delete the master/version image from its project also.
Next I suggest you create a folder and project structure you desire.
Then sort/filter your recovered project on keyword. Select the group needed and drag to its destination project. Dragging from project to project will move the master/version images.
This should get you a long way down the path without too much fun (hopefully).

  • Accessing windows folders using C7 file manager

    Hi,
    I have the following problem.
On windows XP pro PC I've installed IIS 5.1. This included webDAV. To publish folders as webfolders I did the following. I have a dutch windows so my translations of th correct Windows menu's might be different than in the US/UK version.
Create a folder that want to access with the Nokia C7 (e.g. webfolder)
--> sharing and security -->   sharing via web --> sharing
--> I filled in an alias (e.g. webfolder)
----> accessrights (or accesspolicies) --> none
On the Nokia C7 I went to filemanager
--> add new station --> gave it a name (e.g. test)
--> accesspoint: SSID of my wifi-router
    --> input IP-adres of my webserver -->e.g. http://192.168.0.1/webfolder
    --> username --> my windows login-name
--> password --> my windows password
Whenever i connect on the nokia it keeps asking for the right username and password. Though I'm sure I have type the correct on. What am I doing wrong?
Is there no proper information about this feature of the filemanger?
I looked on the web but there's nothing to be found, the manual supplied doesn't even mention this aspect o/t  filemanager.
i hope that ppl in here can help me.

208 views yet no one able to help me :-(
Okay. I've found the solution myself. Unfortunatly another problem appeared immediatly!!!
    So to continue this thing.
After doing the abovementioned items from my former posting. You have to go to IIS-management (My Computer --> Manage --> Computermanagment window appears
go to --> IIS --> standard website ---> webfolder
--> right click properties --> security --> Anonimous login ON--> Integrated Windows verification OFF
    That should do the trick.
The problem that I currently have is that I finally can access this webfolder. I can copy from C7 to it and from the folder to C7 except when the file is larger than say 10MB. Particularly AVI's and Mp4 moviefiles. I hoped that I could stream video this way but aparanlty that's not possible. Small clips (less than 10MB) play okay but large files ALLWAYS give an error
Installing large .SIS files (+18MB) on the other hand works fine. Is there something that I overlooked?

  • Close all folders in Mail?  Color Label folders?  Find folder?  And More!

    Hi all.
I have a LOT of mail. They're all very organized, though. Heaps of Mailboxes (Folders) and Sub-folders.
I also have heaps of rules dutifully sending incoming mail to their appropriate mailboxes.
    However...
It has reached a point where one of of the major bottlenecks in my daily workflow is sorting through all these mailboxes.
There are 5 primary mailboxes with perhaps 100-ish subfolders or sub-subfolders. Maybe more.
When they are all open, or a lot of them are open, it is difficult to find the a specific folder when I need it. It would help if I could close all open folder with a shortcut.
    Is this possible?
It would also help if I could visually distinguish each level. Can I color label the mailboxes(not the messages themselves)?
Another help would be if I could run a search for a folder Mailbox name. Is this possible?
Lastly when I create a rule I would love it if there was an option to 'Create new Mailbox' in the rule dialog box rather than having to create the mailbox first. Am I just missing this? See link for illustration:
    http://img.skitch.com/20080820-eaqmy89emw6xm5pcj86iuqu992.jpg

I just had a look and you need to create the mailbox PRIOR to asking the rules to move it into that.
Now, automator lets you create a new workflow, but not sure as to how to set that one up (might be possible; however, my mathematical brain tells what you want to achieve is flawed:
    1) IF new mail equals "tangerine", create new mailbox tangerine, then move message to mailbox "tangerine. (FINE so far!)
    2) the second "tangerine" message arrives, and the workflow should FAIL (because it cannot create a "new" mailbox "tangerine", as there is ALREADY a mailbox named "tangerine")
    3) if automator cannot execute "If" and "and" and the "sort by" all together, then distinguish (a "tangerine" message might actually need to go to "pear" but refers to "pears and tangerines", so it ends up in the wrong mailbox), you may have to start and restart mail, until all stages of the script have been executed.
    You see the problems?
Anyhow, here is a link to some automator info:
