Folders remain open on desktop

Hi, all -
In finder, when opening folders within folders, all stay open until the red "X" is clicked. For instance, when getting a recipe that resides in the "recipe" folder, which is in the "document" folder on the hard drive, there are three open windows (Mac HD, Documents and Recipes).
Checked Finder preferences, and the box that says, "Always open folders in a new window" is NOT checked.
I would like the default to be that as folders within folders are opened, only the last opened remains open.
Thanks.

You could access the last location folder by an alias and
so that item alone would open, and when done, you'd
just close one folder without ever opening up the others.
A folder of alias accessed items can be created on the
root level of the hard drive (if you are the only user, no
issue regarding access to originals, permissions, etc)
and such a folder can be dragged into the Dock in the
space near the Trash. This can act as an extension to
the Dock, but this window may be shaped to better
fit the side of the screen so it stays out of the way when
accessing applications or locations via alias items.
{Active link to the Documents folder, if you use that often,
could essentially be created (symbiotic link, if folder is
dragged into the Dock, near the trash icon in Tiger.) A
click on that would open only the last location, too.}
There likely is a way to Script the functions of files
and folders, whether or not the action could be
chosen as system-wide or only specific items, is
another matter. Someone expert should know this...
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Cant open any desktop folders or icons, not even control panel. Help!

    Hi,
    I really need help desperately. I cant open any desktop folders or icons. I've restored to the earliest point I can but with no difference. Even the Control Panel cant be opened from the Start button. my compuetr freezes everytime I double-click or right-click on "My Computer" or "My Documents" icons.
    My restore CD which was supplied with the Toshiba Satellite 1800 doesnt work either. Please help! I'm really desperate!
    Jess

    Waht do you mean with "I have tried with the restore CD but nothing"? Have you tried to completely format your HDD? I had a similar problem but in my case it was due to the OS registry...so I reinstalled the system from the beginning and it was ok.
    If you cannot solve this problem with the cd supplied by factory...I think it could be an hardware problem due probably to the HDD. Does your HDD make strange sounds, such as "clic-clac"?
    Bye

  • No way to STOP bookmark folders popping-open when dragging something across them

    Bookmark folders in the bookmarks SIDEbar pop-open if an image is dragged across them not-quickly-enough. This is true even if the image is being dragged from, say, the Finder's desktop over to another Finder location or Finder folder, or to some other application (e.g. to be dropped into a Filemaker record) - and merely passing-over a Firefox window that happens to also be open though NOT being the active app. I'm told by Firefox support that there's no way to disable this "feature".
    Furthermore, the folder then remains open, often obscuring all the other bookmark-sidebar folders until it's manually closed.
    And finally, if the bookmarks sidebar isn't even open, this drag-across activity will often open BOTH the bookmarks sidebar AND whatever folder was the dragging cursor's accidental victim.
    It's fine to have this folder pop-open as an OPTION, but it would be MUCH preferable to have the OPTION to shut-off this behavior.

    Please note that the Mac's OS X has this folder pop-open feature, but (1) it is an OPTION that can be disabled in the Finder Preferences. And even if enabled, the user can set how much delay ioccurs before folders pop-open.
    Options GOOD! :-)
    [To open immediately, Mac users have the option set and simply press the space-bar.]

  • External Hard Drives Won't Stay Open on Desktop

    Greetings all! I have a strange little issue to share with the assembled.
    I have one Seagate (USB) and two LaCie (FireWire) external drives. Both appear on my MacBook desktop just fine, but that's where things go astray!
    Clicking on either of the drives icons leads to the drive opening briefly, then it immediately closes after what looks like a complete finder, or screen, refresh. Both drives are still visible after this rapid little process, but I just can't get the little fellas to remain open on my desktop. I can still access the data when going through an application - e.g. opening Photoshop, then using the open file command to browse and finally open a file.
    Both drives have their own power source, and I have used disk utility to confirm that there are no obvious issues with either drive.
    Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

    Does the problem exist if you only connect firewire with no USB attached? Or reverse that scenario.

  • Page 741 Step # 12 : editEmployee.jsff 's dialog remains opened / rendered

    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.5.
    This post is regarding "Oracle JDeveloper Handbook",
    Chapter 20 subsection entitled "Fix The Popup Behavior",
    page 741, Step # 12...
    Running templateTest.jspx displays all the records... I can scroll through all of them.
    Then step 12, when I click the tuhraTrainTemplate.jspx 's "Finish" button,
    the editEmployee.jsff 's popup does indeed close.
    HOWEVER, the editEmployee.jsff 's dialog remains opened / rendered.
    This dialog is a child of the popup.
    This dialog's Title is "Manage Employee Images".
    This dialog is supposed to close according to step # 12.
    SOMEWHAT RELATED (and background) INFORMATION:
    I tried reproducing the (above) dialog problem by downloading www.tuhra.com 's C20-II.zip
    (since the problem cited above is very near the end of Chapter 20 section 2).
    The C20-II.zip templateTest.jspx runs on my JDeveloper 11.1.1.5 and renders.
    HOWEVER, no records are displayed (and no anomalies / exceptions appear in the integrated weblogic log window).
    On a positive note, clicking the "Manage Images" command link produces the
    popup and clicking the "Finish" button closes both the popup and the dialog.
    For C20-I.zip, templateTest.jspx runs on my JDeveloper 11.1.1.5 and renders.
    HOWEVER, no records are displayed (and no anomalies / exceptions appear in the integrated weblogic log window).
    If others are also seeing no records displayed, that could be useful information (but a different issue).
    For C19-V.zip, templateTest.jspx runs on my JDeveloper 11.1.1.5 and renders...
    AND the records are displayed and I can scroll through all of them... all seems well.
    NOTE:
    Since I started "Developing Developing The Sample Application" on page 567,
    I have been using Oracle Database 11g Express the whole time.
    When peaking at www.tuhra.com downloadable applications (available after each section),
    I just remove the existing DB connection and create a new one for " XE ", express edition.

    Solved:
    1. Type  chflags nohidden ~/Library/ in a Terminal window.
    2. Click on the hard drive icon located on the desktop.
    3. Go to Users > [username] > Library > Safari folder.
    4. Delete all files except “Bookmarks.plist”.
    5. Then go to Users > [username] > Library > Preferences.
    6. Find com.apple.Safari.plist, com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist, and com.apple.internetconfig.plist and delete them (ignore any file you can’t find).

  • Folders keep opening in new windows!  help!

    I always like to have a clean desktop. So, I unchecked the Finder preference "Always open folders in new windows". That way, when I open a folder, it uses the same window that is already open... nice and clean.
    I believe this functionality is called "browser view".
    Recently I decided to do away with my sidebars and toolbars (by clicking the little pill-shaped button on the upper right of any Finder window). Unfortunately, with the sidebar and toolbar gone, opening a folder opens up a separate window (even though the Finder preference for this is still unchecked).
    I believe this functionality is called "spatial view".
    Is there a way I can set a preference somewhere so that folders always open in the same window even though I have the sidebar and toolbar hidden?
    Thanks.

    OPTION+double-click will always open a subfolder in the same window, regardless if you have toolbar showing or not. I prefer the choice, so also have open folders in new window option selected. I'm not as minimalistic as you are.

    The curious thing here is that on the one hand the code cannot be loaded so how could the trojan code be ever executed.  But you would expect the "Unexpectedly quit" message if the intel trojan did get executed in a ppc app.  So this begs the question when (and how) does the trojan code get executed in conjunction with launching an app?
    I understand code injected into a specific app like safari that uses the global environment variable to access the code in /Users/Shared.  But I don't understand how that code could be executed by attempting to run an randomly chosen ppc app.  Unless of course   other code has been injected is in a more critical place than just safari and that is scary.
    Some of this was explained to us a few weeks back by an infected user who reverse engineered the code, working with Intego to figure out why he was being re-directed on Google searches. At the time, nobody believed much of anything he was saying, but F-Secure explains it more fullly in this analysis. Note that there is a filter component to keep it from loading code into apps that would be unstable, so watch for the next variant to filter out ppc only apps.
    In a related matter, I got word from the PC side of the house that similar techniques are being used by drive-by infections that were injecting code into a running app which would disappear when they quit the app. A one-time infection, so to speak. Makes it really hard to even know you were temporarily infected, let alone how, why, what damage, etc.

  • Every time I open iPhoto a window opens telling me that there are 3 photos that have not been imported. Recovered folders are opened with no photos and I cannot find which photos have not been imported. Help please!

    Every time I open iPhoto a window opens telling me that there are 3 photos that have not been imported. This happens twice. When I answer yes then nothing happens and if I answer no then a recovered folder is opened with no photos in it. These recoverable folders keep opening with no photos in them. I cannot find which photos have not been imported. Can anyone assist please?

    Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
    Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
    Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
    If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • Cursors remained open after closing connection

    I am using OC4J 10g (Application Server) and Oracle10g DB. OC4J is maintaining the connection pool(com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource). I get the connection from pool and call DB procedure, then close resultset, statement and connection. It closes the opened cursors against resultset. But left some implicit cursors opened and never closed so cursor count is going to increase.
    If i dont use pool no cursor remained open and count is zero. It means the cursors of pooled connections are not closed.

    Hi Justin,
    Thnx for your reply and you're understanding is correct but the problem I face is when multiple concurrent users access the JSP page from which I'm actually calling the servlet to retrieve the image, the number of cursors being left open increases. As the load on the page increases (i.e. no of usesrs increase) oracle seems to have problems in garbage collecting the open cursors ... which eventually leads it to throw maximum cursors exceeded exceptions.
    Any suggestions ?

  • Implicit PL/SQL cursors remain open, causing ORA-01000 (Client 9.2.0.1)

    Hello,
    since migrating our system from Oracle Client 9.0.X to 9.2.0.1 (Windows XP), i am encountering troubles when calling a stored procedure from a Cobol-Program:
    after a while i run into a 'Maximum open cursors exceeded'-message (ORA-01000)
    The stored procedure returns a cursor (ref_cursor)
    When Executing the stored procedure, there are actually 2 cursors involved, in fact the stored PL/SQL procedure implicitely opens a child-cursor when doing a select within the PL/SQL.
    After fetching the result and closing the cursor in my cobol-program, it correctly closes the cursor associated with the stored-procedure, but it does not close the cursor that was implicitely opened by oracle.
    After a while i am running into a Maximum open cursors message, because those cursors have not properly been closed.
    Here's a simple PL/SQL package that illustrates the problem:
    create or replace package scott.SCOTTS_PACKAGE is
    type ref_cursor IS REF CURSOR;
    function GET_EMP(EMP_IN CHAR) return ref_cursor;
    end SCOTTS_PACKAGE;
    create or replace package body scott.SCOTTS_PACKAGE is
    -- Function and procedure implementations
    function GET_EMP(EMP_IN CHAR) return ref_cursor is
    MyCurs ref_cursor;
    begin
    OPEN MyCurs FOR
    SELECT EMPNO ,
    ENAME ,
    JOB
    FROM SCOTT.EMP
    WHERE ENAME = EMP_IN;
    return(MyCurs);
    end;
    end SCOTTS_PACKAGE;
    Here are some exerpts from my cobol program:

    Finally here's an exerpt from V$OPEN_CURSOR, after a few iterations:
    1 begin :b1 := SCOTT . SCOTTS_PACKAGE . GET_EMP (:b2 ) ; END ;
    2 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    3 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    4 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    5 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    6 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    7 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    8 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    9 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    10 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    11 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    As you see, there is only 1 cursor starting with 'begin ... '
    but there are 10 implicit cursors 'SELECT EMPNO, ... ' that have not been properly closed, nor reused by ORACLE.
    In our old configuration (ORACLE CLient 9.0.X), you would only see:
    1 begin :b1 := SCOTT . SCOTTS_PACKAGE . GET_EMP (:b2 ) ; END ;
    2 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    meaning all the other cursors have properly been closed.
    As a conclusion: the program correctly closes the implicit cursors when using a 9.0 Client, wheras the implicit cursors remain open on Client 9.2.0.1 (Windows XP)
    The underlying database can be either 8.i or 9, the problem remains the same.
    Finally here's a small Delphi code, using ODAC-components, that somewhat illustrates the same problem:
    procedure TForm1.ExecProcClick(Sender: TObject);
    var I: INTEGER ;
    begin
    FOR I := 1 TO 5 DO
    BEGIN
    SP1.StoredProcName:='SCOTT.SCOTTS_PACKAGE.GET_EMP';
    SP1.Prepare;
    SP1.ParamByName('EMP_IN').AsString := 'SMITH';
    SP1.ExecProc;
    SP1.Next;
    SP1.Close;
    SP1.UnPrepare;
    END;
    end;
    After each call to 'PREPARE', an additional implicit cursor remains open on the database. (using Oracle Client 9.2.0.1)
    On our old system (Oracle Client 9.0 or 8.X), the same program would not generate accumulating open cursors on the database
    Any suggestions would be welcome,
    Claude

    Cobol.. been many years since I last even saw some Cobol source code. Invokes all kinds of memories. :-)
    Since you found the patch, the advice is superfluous, but works. Close the cursor at the PL/SQL side, e.g.
    create or replace procedure CloseRefCursor( cRefCursor TYPELIB.TRefCursor ) is
    begin
      close cRefCursor;
    exception when OTHERS then
      -- if the cursor is already gone, not a problem
      NULL;
    end;In Delphi for example, one can subclass the class used for ref cursor calls and add a call to the above PL/SQL proc in the destructor. Or add create a standard Cobol close ref cursor section that does similar.

    Hi SAP community,
    My Order quantity in PO item is 100, and User have GR 90. Left with 10 units to be good receipt.
    Now user what to cancel the 10 unit, so that they can close this PO
    how can the user cancel the 10 unit remain open in po ?

    Hi,
    You have 2 options -
    1) If you want that this PO should not be considered for MRP run, then marks the Delivery complete indicator in item details level & save. In this case though the PO will not be considered for MRP, you will be able to post GRN.
    2) If you do not want to post any GRN for this PO, then change the PO quantity to the quantity of actual GRN made. In this case the PO will not be considered for MRP as well as you will not be able to post GRN.

  • Adobe XI remains open after printing from command line

    I am using a program to collect, batch print and delete multiple PDF files.
    The following command line is used to print the files, after which the file is deleted and next file is collected.
         "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /T /N FileName.pdf
    I have now upgraded to Adobe XI, however Adobe remains open (and minimized) after sending the print job to the printer, resulting in my programing freezing while waiting to delete.
    Is there a parameter to close Adobe after printing?
    This is rather urgent as we have started rolling out the new Adobe XI.
