Folders rolling back in finder view in 10.6 connected to a 10.6 server.

I have a server 10.6 with all updates and some times when i connect from 10.6.8 clients by AFP some folders roll back automatically any ideas?

By default the Windows Server 2008 will not have the Line Printer Daemon Service installed and running. With the Server 2008 configured with the Print Services role you need to select the TCP/IP Print Server (LPDSVC) service which allows computers that are using the Line Printer Remote (LPR) service to print to shared printers on this server. The Select Role Services wizard also creates an inbound TCP exception on port 515 for LPD in the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.
With this enabled you should then be able to use the LPD queue you created on the Mac's to print to the Windows shared queue. Note that the Queue Name on the Mac will be the name of the share used on Windows. A good tip is to keep the share name short and without spaces.
Note that when you type the IP followed by \HP4015, you are connecting via RPC/SMB. For Windows this is known as Point & Print and while the Mac can connect to this same queue, you cannot use the same procedure. Instead you can use the Windows icon within the Add Printer browser to browse the workgroup then the computer name. When selected you often have to enter user credentials saved on Windows to then see the printer share. When the queue creation is completed you then can print but often have to authenticate every time you print. This is why LPD is preferred. The other thing is that with SMB connections, you often cannot use the vendors driver for consumer products. But if this HP is a LaserJet that supports PostScript then there won't be the same limitation.

  • Preference files missing in Finder view, sidebar folders disappear

I have a combination of symptoms:
    * In the home/library/preferences folder, only 112 files are visible. The remaining files are there, you can find them with spotlight but not in a regular Finder view
    * The icons for my mostly used folders that I had in my sidebar started disappearing after logout/restart
    * Some, not all of my icons in the top finder menu bar also are lost after restart
    * This may be connected to installing new version of Parallels, but I am not sure of timing
    Any hints?

Some more information on this topic:
I look into the home/library/preferences folder, there are only 112 items, in alphabetic order
I search for plist files with HOudaSpot in the same folder, find eg "com.omnigroup.OmniGrafflePro.plist"
Using the "Reveal in Finder" command, I can see the file in the folder, which now contains 113 files!
However, as soon as I switch to another application and then return to Finder, this file is gone and I am back to 112
In addition, I have found a "????.plist" file in the preferences folder
    Anyone got a clue?

I have 2 screens at work and 1 screen at home. I was working on a power point presentation on 2 monitors with the presentation on monitor externally hooked up to my computer. My window is now "stuck" when I open Power Point. I cannot drag it back to a display or find any way to move it back into my view. Help!!!

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • Using PS Elements 11 on a Mac how can one replicate Finder folders in the Elements Organiser view?

Hi all - I have found the Organiser folder structure quite confusing and it does not seem to replicate the Finder folder structure other than randomly, unlike Bridge in PS for PC which I also use.
I would love to be able to create folders in elements or simply do so in Finder and find them show up in elements Organiser. It seems to me that only once I have saved an image to a folder in the Finder does it show up in the Organiser folder view. Is this correct?
Any suggestions around a sensible workflow or approach here would be most welcome, thanks. Sean

Many thanks Andaleeb - yes I have tried that and it seems only to add to the confusion - folders which in the Finder clearly show all my images are blank in PSE Organiser with the statement that they still have to be imported into PS Organiser. I guess that may be my fault because, due to the problems in locating files in Organiser I right clicked on them in the Finder and said 'open with PSE'. So in effect I bypassed PSE Organiser. But one would still have hoped that the folder hierarchy would be the same in Organiser and the Finder. Very confusing! I have never seen a program deal with folders etc in the way PSE does.
    all the best

  • Finder View Options, For All Sub Folders

If I understand how View Options work in Finder windows ...
I can set View Options for a particular folder to always open up in a particular View Options setting.
I can set that very same View Option as the Default View Option for all the rest of the folders I open up.
But, what I would like to do is set the View Options for a folder and all it's sub folders to be the same. Without changing the default View Option for the rest of the folder I open up.
    For example.
I like to have my Documents open up in List View.
I like to have my Photos open up in Icon View. (along with certain Icon View Option settings)
Is there a way to do this?
Can I set the directory and all sub folders/directories for all my photos to open up the way I would like them? Without having to change the way all my Document folders/directories open up?
Because the way it seems to work now, is that every time I create a new folder in my Photos directory/folder, I have to manually set the View Options, since the default is List View and not Icon view. If I change the default to Icon View, then any new folder/directory in my Documents will then open up in Icon View.

If the folder is not set to open in a specific view, it should open in the same view as the containing folder. When using mixed views, you need to open the folder in another window to get the view it previously had.
In your example, setting Documents to always open in list view and Photos to always open in Icon view should have any new sub folders open in the same view. If any existing sub folders have a different view, you will need to manually change the view, since the Finder will (usually) keep track of the view any particular folder has.

  • ROLL BACK TO V18 no more Desktop Viewer !

As Apple etc.etc. (one month of etc.etc. ;-) I decided to roll back to V18
    So I
    - copied my .indd  files and renamed them v18
    - uninstalled the Adobe Folio Producer Tools / reboot
    - installed the previous (v18) Folio Producer Tools
    - opened INDD and made a new Folio, uploaded articles : i can see them on the iPad (yeeeeee-ahhh / even if some actions that worked in the Desktop Viewer dont' seem to display ...)
    - As I see that some actions that did well on Desktop Viewer don't work on the iPad, I decide to take a look at my articles/folio on the Desktop Viewer ; it does not launch anything.
It preloads, but nothing else happens then.
    - I desinstall Adobe AIR /reboot / roll back to ADOBE AIR previous version 3.1.0.4880 (thought that might be it)
    - same issue, and now articles don't even "preload"
    - I update Adobe AIR to latest version 3.2.0.2070
    - start INDD again and open various .indd files, or folios or articles: Desktop Viewer still does not appear, and nothing preloads. (EDIT: it preloads but nothing shows)
    Any idea for help ?
    Thanx

so that's it, it works now
whenever this happens to you then
    - uninstall FOLIO BUILDER
    - uninstall FOLIO PRODUCER
    - uninstall ADOBE AIR
    reboot
    > install ADOBE AIR
    > install FOLIO PRODUCER TOOLS (v18)
    > install FOLIO BUILDER PANEL (v19)

  • I need to roll back to version 3.6.16 for use with Cha Cha and the oldest version I can find is 3.6.20. Help!

    Hi,
In order to use Cha Cha's tools I need to roll back to version 3.6.16 or earlier as noted by them: "Please note: the ChaCha Toolbar is currently not compatible with FF 4.0 or 5.0. If you have Firefox version 4 or 5, please revert back to a previous version of Firefox. 3.6.16" Nees help with this as the erliest version that comes up readily is version 3.6.20
    Thanks,
    Frankie Dunham

If you haven't already used Firefox Sync, you don't have a Sync account.
If all you want to do is use Firefox Sync, you can install the Firefox Sync extension into Firefox 3.6.x versions. <br />

  • Can't open folders in applications' Finder view

This behavior started about a week or two ago, seemingly out of the blue. When I try to open a file in certain applications (VLC, iTunes, etc.), it prompts the normal Finder view. However, attempting to open a folder results in the application importing everything within that folder, instead of letting me go into the folder to pick the file I want. This is driving me nuts!
Does anyone know what I might've done to cause this, and how I would go about fixing it?

Open a guest account and see if the problem is Universal.
Try a SafeBoot  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564  to see if it is some third party interference or extention
Delete the Finder plist and restart
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

  • DW won't display folders created in Mac Finder

I have a Mac. When I was using CS3, I could use Finder to create a folder, then put an image in that folder. If it didn't display in Dreamweaver, I'd just refresh the view, and it would appear.
I just tried the same thing with CS6, and it doesn't work. I have a folder with an image that I can see in Finder, and I also found it in Bridge, but I can't publish it online because it doesn't appear in Dreamweaver.
    So I have two questions:
    1. How can I make this folder and image appear in Dreamweaver?
    2. In the future, what's the best way to create folders and move move images between folders - with Bridge?
Finder is far easier to do this sort of thing with than Dreamweaver, partly because I can open multiple windows and move files back and forth. But I haven't really worked with Bridge yet, so I'm not sure exactly what its capabilities are.
    Thanks.

Yes. All my sites are in a folder called Sites. This particular image is at Sites/GS/images/World/Eco/Animals/Birds/NA/USA/NY.jpg
Just before I posted this response, I discovered that the image is now visible in Dreamweaver. I don't know exactly how; I refreshed the view and switched sites, but I couldn't see it.
I just set up my site in FileZilla and used it to publish the image.
So I don't know if I did something to trigger the image to appear, or if I just have to wait half an hour for it to become visible.

  • Finder View options won't stay set 10.7.2

Finder view options need resetting each time i log out or restart. How can i make them permanent?
Finder window has no locational or size memory, reverting to a default size and position on start up?
Any ideas how to fix this greatly appreciated

I finally know what causes folders to lose their view settings - even if you have set them to "Always open in..." a particular view (but I do not know how to fix it).
The trigger is setting any window to "column" view. Try it.
    (1) Create a new folder, and set it to your preferred view (but not column view). Close the folder and re-open it to verify that it is in the view you have set. You can even set it to "Always open in..." that view, if you like (it doesn't matter).
    (2) Now open up any other finder window or folder, and switch it to column view. If it is already in column view, switch it to some other view and then back to column view.
    (3) Now go back to the folder you created in step 1 and open it. Presto: column view. (Aargh!)
I confirmed this with a helpful and sympathetic Apple support staffer at the Genius Bar in my local Apple Store. Unfortunately, he had no solution, but noted it as an apparent bug in the 10.7 finder.
This is an extremely reliable behavior, that I have confirmed on 5 different machines all running 10.7.2. It is also an extremely frustrating behavior that I hope Apple fixes soon.

P.S. I will copy this to similar threads where this is being discussed, in hopes that it is helpful. Sometimes understanding why something happens can make it a little less frustrating, even if you don't know how to fix it.

  • Finder View options, won't stay set after restart or log out

I like to have my application and utility folders (in the finder side bar) open in icon view and arranged by name and my Home and Movies folder open in list view with files arranged by name.
Each time i log out of my computor or restart the view options i have mentioned are reset, which is extreamly frustrating.
I have also noticed that the finder window now opens in a small size in the middle of the screen rather than being aligned to the left hand side as like to have it set.
This problem has only occoured recently, i think after deleting some "relic" files using Cleanapp.
Any ideas on how i can sort this out greatly appreciated

  • PSE9 trial instal rolls back

I have a Windows 7 64 bit SP1 operating system and easiliy meet all the requirements to install PSE9 trial. I have tried many times to instal a trial version of PSE9. Each time it nearly installs then rolls back and leves the following message:
"Application failed to install Shared technologies"
I have viewed some threads and visited the adobe site and tried to do what was recommended. I installed the adobe support advisor which advised me:
"The inspection found an issue but cannot determine the cause or corrective action."
I followed the prompts and ended up with a token no : 00-66295-214328052011 for an adobe support case but I don't even know what this is or means. I have a log of the failed installartion but am unable to copy it to this duscussion.
Can any members assist me with this problem. I have researched what I can from adobe and discussions but I am now only getting frustrated.
Thank you for your assistance and regards

    Restart your machine
open Control panel Uninstall/Install and check if any entry related to PSE9 exists there , if yes Uninstall it.
Also, goto location C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe delete Elements Organizer and Photoshop Elements folders from there, If unable to delete, again restart the machine.
Now Try to Install the application

  • How do I roll back my kernel to a version I've never had installed?

So according to the wiki, the method for rolling back any package is to go to
    /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
and find whatever the old piece of software is.
However, I've just recently installed Arch, and the only version of the kernel I have in there is 3.3.1.
If I were to want to get 3.2.14, how would I get it?
I've searched google (though mind you I have a very limited knowledge of what to search for, as of yet, seeing as this is day 1 arch for me ), and haven't really come up with any solutions to this other than recompiling the kernel.
    Any ideas?

Or go the manual way; find the wanted version of the PKGBUILD for that package and compile it yourself. So go to http://www.archlinux.org/packages/core/x86_64/linux/ and click on 'View changes'. The version that matches your wanted 3.2.14 would be https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … b1e75b2e74 So download all the files and execute `makepkg` in the directory you downloaded them in
