Folders stuck open/hanging won't close

I have been having problems lately with things that hang an example is if I open something like a folder and later try to close it it will stick or hang there until I reboot or log out and back in again . I have 2 gigs of ram and am running a e8400 duel core that is 3 ghz so it has something to do with Arch could someone tell me how I can fix this? it isn't happening all of time time but it seems to be happening more frequently .

The reason why I'm asking these questions is because Thunar becomes completely unresponsive for me on both of my computers under normal usage. Look in your log files. I can't remember which log it is, so look in the everything log (/var/log/everything.log). You'll probably see thousand of errors per second being dumped into the logs the last time it happened. This is known problem with Thunar, but it seems to happen a lot more with some users than others.

Tabs will open but won't close.

I have checked other forums, and the only answer I found was to make sure Firefox is up to date, and mine is. What else can I do to fix this?

Solution 1: Refresh Firefox

Solution 2: Delete Firefox preference files

Locate and delete the file prefs.js (or rename it, for example, to prefs.jsOLD, to keep the old file as a backup). If you find more than one, a prefs.js.moztmp file or a user.js file, delete (or rename) these as well.

Normally open contact won't close

Hangs, won't close, odd error window on start about java script before opening browser

tried to install latest version but got message that needed to close mozilla windows already running. could not install. An error window opens titled "JavascriptApplication reads:
"Exc in evhandl:Type Error,this.oRoot,enable is not a function"
System now hangs terribly, especially on closing, and the error message comes up each time try to open a web page with mozilla.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

ITunes is stuck open and I cannot close it

I have a MacBook Pro that I just purchased and I am a first time Mac user. It came downloaded with iTunes 10.5. I then updated to the 10.5.1 but now I cannot get iTunes to close and if I force shut it down then try to open it again I get the iTunes screen but can't do anything, not even close it down.
I have seen some information on uninstalling but that looks like PC info. How do I unistall on a Mac? And, if I do unistall it what next? Thank you for any suggestions.

you wont be able to uninstall iTunes by itself as it is part of the OS X package. Tried that before when i had problems with iTunes and preventing my macbook from shutting down everytime i use iTunes. In short, i had to reinstall the whole Lion package --although it did not resolve the issue up to now, thats the way it is! your best bet is to take it to apple genius bar and let them sort it out for you (as you said) you have just purchased the machine.

My iCloud is stuck open, and won't let me restart my computer, what do i do?

MY icloud account won't allow me to update, restart or x out of the system preferences, so i can't do anything else, and the icloud, system preferences window is frozen.

A folder Y conversation showed up under each account.I right clicked on it and selected delete. It won't delete.It is now open and won't close. When I exit out Thunderbird closes.When I reopen thunderbird that file opens.

Several tabs in a window won't close.

I've tried command-W, clicking on the X, and using the menu to close them, and two of my open tabs won't close at all.

Try temporarily disabling JavaScript. In the Tools menu select Option, then go to the Content panel in the Options window and de-select the setting "Enable JavaScript". Close the Options window and then try to close the tab. You can then re-enable JavaScript.

My dad has a brand new iMac. If he quits an app, this window closes, but the app won't finish shutting down, Force quitting does not work. Once another app is opened, it will not close either. Now none of the apps are responding. Any ideas?

For starters, have him open Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, select the volume (the indented listing) and Verify Disk. If it reports any problems, have him try a Safe Boot by holding the Shift key at startup. This boot will take much longer than usual. It's checking and trying to repair the drive directory, if possible. Once in Safe Boot, have him repair Permissions.

Also, have him try a PRAM Reset. At the startup chime, hold down CMD-Option-P-R together, listen for two more chimes, total three, then let go to finish booting.
Also, is he running any AV? If so, have him uninstall it. It might be responsible for this behavior. (There are no viruses for OS X.)

Adobe Premiere Elements 10 takes about 6 minutes to open but then won't close

My old computer died so I am installing my Adobe Premiere Elements 10 on my new laptop with 8 gb Ram, 1 tb storage and Windows 8.1. When I click on the icon to open it it can take up to 5-6 minutes to open and if it does, when I try to close it, it won't close. I just get programs fails to respond. Can any body help me?

What video card is your Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit) computer using? NVIDIA GeForce or other?
Please check the Device Manager/Display Adapters to confirm the video card/graphics card and how many cards.
Is the card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
Are you working from a User Account with Administrative Privileges? And, do you have QuickTime (latest version) installed on
the computer with Premiere Elements?
Are you using a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
Please consider the above and then we can decide what next.

Tabs won't close,I can open a new one, mouse works on every thing else. ff 36.0 winXP

When I click on a tab to close it I can see the red X press down but it won't close. I can open a new tab and I can click from tab to tab and the windows change. My mouse is working on every thing else, just can't close any tabs. There are six tabs open. This has been an ongoing.problem that seems to be getting more frequent. I usually do a restart and the problem goes away, but only for a short time. I don't
know where to start to fix it. I did notice the automatic updates in windows is turned off. Could that be part of the problem? Should it be turned on? I'm using Windows XP Professional version 5.1.2600 service pack 3. Firefox version 36, just refreshed. Any suggestions?

I have a problem closing tabs in Firefox v3.6.13. The first tab on the left hand side (ie the page that opens when I launch Firefox) won't close when I click on the red x.

I can't close the left hand tab except by exiting firefox. When i launch firefox the original tab stays open when I click on the red x, even if I have other tabs open.
i can alter the website displayed on the left hand tab but it still won't close and leave other more recent tabs open.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

That doesn't actually sound like a problem. If you were viewing "My Songs", switch apps then go back to GB this what should happen. If you were playing an instrument then it should restart with that instrument selected etc. However if you can't get from the "My Songs" display to a song then I guess something is amiss.
More drastic troubleshooting steps would be...
Remove the app and reinstall it or
Backup and then restore the device.
