Folio Builder Only Imports Portrait Layout

Hi guys,
This is my very first attempt at creating an app which is going to be a product catlogue for my employer.
I created a portrait indesign ipad documnet called "front page" stuck my logo onto it and then used the "alternate layout" option to create the landscape version of the page.
My problem is that when I add the front page document to the folio builder it only brings in / displays the portrait orientation, i would have expected to see both.
Maybe its a bug, i created a new page from scratch but still got the same result
Any advice would be appreciated.

You got it, I didnt notice the dual orientation option, i take back my bug comment
Why should I not use dual orientation, have you had problems
It would be better for me if i did just use one oreintation as it means I have to create the whole catalogue twice

Folio builder panel wont open layout

I have been working on a Folio. When I sat down to work on my folio, I was instructed by indesign to update my Folio producer tools, which I did.
Since then I can no longer view any article layout from that folio in indesign. Indeed any folio that I create that does not reside on my desktop give the same problem. I can import articles, add articles and they all upload to the proper place at adobe and I can view them. But I simply cannot open them up through folio builder as I previously.
The exact error message is as below:
An error has occurred opening the source file for the article layout.
The InDesign file for the layout cannot be found.
Another strange thing that seems to be happening is that the folio will randomly reoder the articles in the folio.
I have dumped my indesign prefs, tried creating an entirely new project, made a new account and even reinstalled the entire software.
But the problem of opening an article that I have imported or added to a folio, simply not being found to open has got me stumped. I can't proceed with a major project until I can sort this out.
Can anyone help.

That is my main concern, I moved nothing. The only thing that has changed is that I had a message pop up that folio builder needed an update (which I did, as I couldn't do any more work in it until I had done this).
Once I had completed this, I couldn't load any of the files through the builder that I had previously worked on.
I have just checked the path as per your instructions, and that is totally fine.
I have created a test project using new fresh files/folios and articles and still get the same.
There are two things that make this even stranger.
1. Everything works fine if I work on a folio that has all files in a folder on my desktop. If I work at any other level of sub folder it doesn't.
and:
2. The folio will randomly reorder the articles within it. If I put them back where I want them, a few hours or updates later folio builder will re-organise them.

Building folio with only Vertical view

Hi experts
I am trying to build folio file for Adobe content viewer iPad. I have no problem with iPad Horizontal and Vertical version. It works fine.
Now my problem is I need to view or build a folio with only Vertical version ignore Horizontal version. This is possible?

Importing articles in Folio Builder

Hi All,
I've been running in to an issues while trying to update an exisiting foilo.
The orginal folder that has been imported shows up as gray when I try to add addition article.
Basic steps for me to replicate:
1) With InDesign open a new Folio is created
2) Using the "Import Mutltiple Articles" I select the main folder as to where all the stacks are. All articales are imported and uploaded fine.
3) Now lets say a new stack is added or an amendment is made to the main folder.
4) I then go back to the Folio Builder and regardless if I use "Import a Single Article" or "Import Mutltiple Articles" when I broswe to the main folder it shows up as Gray and I'm unable to access it...
I find that closing and reopening InDesign fixes this issue but of course this is not ideal...
Or I can create another main folder but again when the items are imported from this new main folder it then causes the problem of being gray for future stacks...
Is this normal (intended)? Do others have this issue?
Aditional info:
10.7 & 10.8 (lastest updates)
Adobe InDesign CS5 (7.0.4)
Folio Builder Panel (Lastest Version)
Folio Producer Tools (Version 21. also tested on 22 and 23)

Folio Builder import size error

Hi,
I have some Indesign CS6 files in 960 x 640 which I want to import as multiple articles in my new created Folio. In Folio Builder I created a user defined Folio with the size 960 x 640. When I start to import I receive an error: "Size of the Articles have to be the same size as your Folio" But it is!!
Does anyone have an idea?

Are you using the appropriate folder and file naming conventions to import? In other words, is each InDesign file named with an _v suffix and in a separate article folder?
Also, check the dimensions in your Document Setup settings, and make sure you haven't used the Page tool to change page sizes.

I am using an ipad2 with the latest operating system upgrade. My problems started with the upgrade to v6. Before that, portrait and landscape pics were uploaded from camera with no problems.

I'm from germany so no 'best buy' but I think I will lock around sleeve/bag for a different product with same measures. Any tip?
The clear plastic case is not what I want. I would like to use the player without such protections. I just want a sleeve to protect the player while its in my jacket/pants.
Btw, i have bought this version: Creative Zen (maybe european version?). I also doesn't seem to have your mentioned sleeve. I also couldn't find it on the website.

PC content viewer shows only low res thumbnails of PDF folios (from folio builder)

Since i can't seem to find a similar question, here's my story:
I've recently held a small class of 2*18 students, running various versions of indesign (mostly Cs6 and CC) and various OS (MacOs, Win7, Win 8).
On the Win 7 and 8 systems, some of the students had a blurry/low res and no interactivity feature output of anything coming from Folio Builder.
Regular Interactive Overlay Folio preview always turned well, and preview on the devices were ok too (except for the long process of putting things online when the PC users would want to preview on an iPad).
But i couldn't work them out of the horrible low res preview when the folios were built in Folio Builder.
So far i haven't found time to narrow the failing machines (we didn't have a lot of time for this).
Is this problem known ? Is there a workaround ?

Hi bob, as i mentionned in the title, it's the PC (aka desktop) Content Viewer that's concerned.
I know it's supposed to be rasterized, but the problem here is their (desktop) Content Viewer really displays the thumbnails instead of the expected (and interactive) content.
I had never encountered this kind of behaviour before, and couldn't track that on the website.

Folio Builder sign in for Pro/Enterprise customers only?

Have Adobe changed the way users can access the Folio Builder?
I am having problems signing in to my personal Adobe ID and then using the Folio Builder tools... whereas I used to be able to do this.
I have folios in there, like interactive adverts, test work, then I share those folios, with the various Enterprise accounts for publishing into folios.
If someone can advise on best practice for Adobe DPS CS6, that would be helpful. I have updated to all the latest DPS tools for CS6.

InDesign CS6 folio builder/links question. For iPad app.

Hi there. I am a graphic designer who is very experienced in InDesign using the software for print purposes. I am now branching out with the capacities CS6 has and am learning to design (mainly presentation) apps for the iPad. So, I've designed a portfolio as a multiple page document with both portrait and landscape page orientations. The app would consist of a starter page which would be a load of animation exported as swf, and imported back into InDesign as HTML5, or MP4, or however (I haven't nailed this yet as I'm leaving this till last as this page will serve as a screen saver until swiped). When the viewer swipes page 1 they will enter into the main 'contents' page with a load of thumbnails of clients I have and within those clients a load of case studies. So, I've roughly designed the layout and will need to build but I need to know what I'm limited by.
Page 1 title page,
page 2 contents (with scrollable bar with links to other pages)
page 3 will be the 1st client and will need approx 6 case studies, which I presume I'll need to make extra pages. And so on.
Anyhow, I digress – the question I ask is that to upload and test on the iPad through content viewer I obviously need to upload the articles as separate pages (incorporating both H & V orientations) but would I make the links from my 'contents' page when the document was a multiple page document (ie in it's original state) or would I apply these links (as buttons I presume rather than hyperlinks) when the articles have been separated and I'm working with page 01, 02, 03 etc in folio builder?. I know how how to create buttons from thumbnails but I can't work out how to link them to their desired targets (next page/page no/ etc etc) for the record I want to present my work on an iPad as an app, without relying on WIFI or 3G. Last question (phew) Is I have a picture frame with a slideshow in - is it possible for the viewer to click these and open them in full screen mode and flick/navigate through that way? then click via a cross in the top corner back to the screen they were on. Folio Builder Error: Source Files Not Found

I'm having some weird issues with DPS that are preventing me from editing folios. Whenever I try to update, import or add an article to a folio (whether it's a new or existing folio), I get one of the below error messages saying that the source files cannot be found. However, I haven't moved any of my files. Also, it doesn't make sense that I get this error when creating a new folio and trying to import/add a new article as I'm inputting where the files are located.
I've also tried reinstalling the Adobe folio tools. Anyone know what's going on? Thanks for the help.

Fuzzpocket17's issue was found to be caused by the following:
He had a working install of InDesign and the Folio Producer tools when he left on vacation. When he came back, he did not. It turned out that his IT had converted his user account on his Mac to be a Managed Mobile account, synching their data to a new network volume named "Users". When he unmounts that volume, all his Folio Panel activities returned to normal. T
o see if you have a Managed, or Managed Mobile account, open the System Preferences and choose the Accounts pane. Look at the description under your account. Here is what a Managed Mobile account looks like:
Managed accounts have the ability to be restricted in many ways. One of those restrictions could be preventing the application from reading/writing to the CS<N>ServiceManager folder refernced in my earlier post. Again, if you find this to be the case, consult with your IT. You may need to revert to a non-Managed account to have the Folio Builder panel operate correctly, until your IT can ensure normal user/library file access.

Animation will not work on when previewing in Folio builder

I have created a simple animation in Edge Animate, but when I place it in InDesign and preview it only displays the poster image. When clicked it fades to nothing.
This is the process I followed thus far:
Created shapes in illustrator and saved it as a SVG.
Imported SVG in Edge animate, made a simple animation of the shapes getting larger and made a poster snap
Gone to publish settings
Ticked Animate Deployment Package and saved in Target direectory .\publish\animate_package
In indesign placed the edge .oam file in
gone to the folio builder and gone to preview > preview on desktop

When preparing a demo we had a similar experience. We animated an SVG file from Illustrator in Edge Animate.
The preview looked fine in a Browser.
From InDesign, the placed OAM package would not play in the Desktop Content Viewer, did not play on a connected iPad and did not play when it was exported with the Folio Builder in the iPad Content Viewer.
I renamed the .oam file to .zip and unzipped it.
In the resulting folder you will find an Assets folder with an .html file.
I created a Web overlay in InDesign and selected the .html file from the Assets folder (and set the Autoplay checkbox)
The preview in the Desktop Content Viewer showed nothing, but the animation played on a directly connected iPad and when exported from the Folio Builder in the iPad Content Viewer.
I tried also to use the html export version from Edge Animate, but that does not work.
The animation needs 2 javascripts that are included in a folder "edge_includes" in the OAM file (and in the "Assets" folder), but that folder is missing and they are only referenced from the web in the exported html from Edge Animate and that does not seem to load in the folio.
So it can work with a little effort: unzip the .oam file and use the html from the Assets folder.

Folio Builder CC not working.

Hello All
I am in dier need of assistance - My folio builder panel will NOT import layouts, existing ones, new ones, any layouts. Won't import single, won't import multiple.
I can create the folio shell but I can't import any information into it.
Been on the phone to tech support all morning, to no avail.
I have thus far:
•Quit inDesign and restarted it
•Restarted my whole machine
•Deleted all my preferences
•Uninstalled ALL the creative cloud programmes
•Used the cleaner tool
•Created a new admin account and installed creative cloud and solely inDesign
•Thoroughly tested article imports to no avail/same issue.
•Ran the cleaner tool on said test account and reinstalled Creative Cloud desktop and inDesign
•Ran for updates to check I wasn't behind on anything.
And it STILL doesn't work, I am really at a loss
NOTHING is working, I am stuck with my builder panel like this...
I desperately need help
Any suggestions?

It's difficult to tell whether this is an issue with the Folio Builder panel or a problem with the source files you're trying to add/import.
If the Folio Builder panel doesn't seem to be working properly, try this:
1. Quit InDesign and any other CS apps.
2. Delete the opm.db file located in /Users/"your user name"/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db, and then start InDesign and try signing in to the panel.
If your system files are hidden, hold down Option and choose Go > Library in Finder, and go from there.

Version 19 Release - Update Folio Builder panel

Digital Publishing Suite released a mandatory update to the Folio Builder panel as well as a new version of the Folio Producer tools. You can view a list of new features here: What's new in this release.
Should you update the Folio Builder panel?
Yes, or you won't be able to use the panel. Note that updating the panel does not affect your version of the DPS tools.
Should you update the Folio Producer tools?
If you're in the last stages of publishing a folio, if you have an important presentation coming up, or if you created a custom viewer using a previous set of tools and don't want to update your viewer app yet, install only the Folio Builder panel.
If you install the new Folio Producer tools and create a folio, you cannot view it in the current Adobe Content Viewer on the iPad (until Apple approves the new version) or with a custom viewer app that hasn't been updated to v19. If you try to open a new folio in an older viewer, a "Please update your app" message appears.
If you have a Professional or Enterprise account, you can use the Viewer Builder to create a custom version of the Adobe Content Viewer so that you don't have to wait for Apple to approve.

After updating the Folio Builder Panel as requested (by the panel it self), we are unable to acces any articles. A loading icon keeps on animating and the article-folders stay grey. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

The good news, your'e not alone. The bad news... Adobe doesn't really have a fix at this point.
It's a problem where the DPS thinks you are trying to update those articles, and they don't ever get reset to a state of "updated". The only fix I was able to do, unfortunately, was to trash the folios and reupload the whole thing again. It's unclear at this time where the problem was introduced so it might take a while for a fix.
It was a major pain to have to do this stuff over again – but I know that the issue has been documented and they are looking into it.
I recommend you make a sidecar.xml file with all the folio descriptive copy. This way, if you have to do this process another time, you can import the sidecar file and it will populate all of your articles again a lot faster. You might have to still adjust the order in a few cases... but it works pretty well. Info on that here:
