Folio crashes viewer on Android

Hi everyone,
We tried both "Adobe Content Viewer" and "DPS Tips" apps for Android on the HP TouchPad running CyanogenMod 7.1 Android Alpha 3.
And got two problems so far:
1) There is problem to sign in with existing Adobe ID in the "Adobe Content Viewer" app - it fails to authenticate few times but then finally gets through.
2) Then opening of the folio (any even simple with no overlays) crashes the app with this error:
"The application Adobe Viewer (process air.com.adobe.contentviewer) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again".
First we thought it's CyanogenMod distro problems but then read that others also had same problems but on the different Android devices:

Few questions:
1) Is there stable Android device that is working flawlessly with "Adobe Content Viewer"? What devices/Android versions are used by Adobe for development/testing?
2) Are there any Android system settings that could be tweaked so the Viewer app will not crash on the opening of folio? Is there any table exist with Viewer app/device compatibility/issues or list of supporting devices?
3) Is there any Air app that could be used for testing what Air functionality is working on the specific Android system and what doesn't? Or are there any other tools/logs available to troubleshoot the problem?

No, the documentation doesn't go into specifics about which HTML/web views work and which ones don't. The program team is currently working on improving this area.

Opening Folio Crashes Viewer on Android

Hi guys,
We tried "Adobe Content Viewer" and "DPS Tips" apps for Android on the HP TouchPad running latest CyanogenMod 9 (Android 4.0.4): cm-9-20130512-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip
And still have the problem when opening the folio crashes the app with the error:
"Unfortunately, Adobe Viewer has stopped".
First we thought it's CyanogenMod distro problems but then read that others also having the same problem even on the popular Samsung Galaxy Tab, please see that review below.
Anything could be done so it will start to work? Is there non-Air version currently in development?

Login and download fine, but crashes as soon as you open any publication. Update 02/11/13: Still crashes as soon as you open a publication on both my galaxy nexus and galaxy tab (Both Running Jelly Bean). Once it tries to open it and it crashes it tries to open and crash the same folio until you uninstall and reinstall the app. During the attempted cases of reopening the app sometimes the initial view of the folio will load but quickly crash. Really wish this thing would get fixed."

Is the live viewer/app in Google Play below V25? If so, update your app to the latest V26/V25 Viewer. There were significant changes made in V25 to avoid this type of crashing behaviour.
**CyanogenMod crashes are not supported. If you have an incident reported from your customer who is running a stock OS, contact DPS Gold Support.

Folio Web Viewer crashing frequently with v28

I've been noticing that the folio web viewer is crashing before web pages fully load for a lot of my hyperlinks. This seems to happen for media-rich websites, but I haven't experienced crashes with such frequency in the past.
When a button link is clicked, the web viewer begins to load then immediately disappears (sliding to the bottom of the screen before the web content finishes loading).
Any one having issues with the folio web viewer?
Are there any open issues or way to resolve?
My only workaround is to make links open in Safari, but that is obviously not ideal solution.

No, it's not a time-out. I can make it crash immediately by opening the page, clicking on the button to refresh the report, changing the parameters, and then clicking the button again.

This is very strange. Using Fiddler to launch IE makes it behave itself! It won't crash! However, when I go to the site with IE launched by Fiddler, it asks me for my login credentials. I'm not sure why it needs them. What does Fiddler do to IE to make it not include network authentication?

Trouble with custom viewer for Android

Hello, I have created a Custom Content Viewer for Android using Viewer Builder 1.5.1. After building the Content Viewer I sideloaded, v15 Android.apk and tested it on a Samsung Galaxy tab. It shows the empty gray viewer with no content.
Is there something that I may have not done correctly with the android app? I want to test my viewer locally. I have uploaded folio with the same adobe Id, which I have used to create my content viewer but not able to find my content on tab.
I have professional account for DPS, how to get "Sign In" button for my Content viewer and test it before uploading it to Android market? Any help would be appreciated.

Got it. I tried booting with MOD_AUTOLOAD set to yes, and it was working fine. Looks like I needed to specify some more modules in my list.

Adobe Content Viewer for Android?

Anyone knows if the current version of the Adobe Content Viewer for Android is the final one? Some features that work in the iPad just won't work in the Sony Tablet S.

Now I wanna try the preview function for android (I think the previous version didn't work, right?) from the folio overlay panel but I cannot seem to find my Nexus 10 device even though I am logged in with the same account on both InDesign and the Nexus 10. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
Nevermind I got it to work. But how do I update my folio once I uploaded it to the folio producer?
Also there's something that I'd like to achieve now.

The 32 version has WebGL enabled or rather it works better. By default only the normal WebGL features are enabled in Chrome. The experimental WebGL features (found under chrome://flags/) have to be activated manually. I suppose the WebM view of the viewer doesn't have these enabled. Can I enable these fancy features somehow?

The question is
Is it posible to communicate from folio to viewer ? For example - I want to make button in folio. Than tap this button and see the all pages in the horisontal scroll like I see when tap the upright button in the viewer.

But you can create a image that show the thumbnails pages.
Create a MSO when state one is the frame none and the frame two is the image with thumbnails.
Make a buttom with the action go to next state.

Folios not displaying in Android Viewer

Hello. We recently published our iPad apps and folios with great success. Today I am uploading the Android version to the marketplace. Everything worked fine when I sideloaded the Android.apk and tested it on a Motorola Xoom. Now that the app is live on the Android marketplace, the folio issue is not showing up for download. It just shows an empty gray viewer page with no content. Is there something that I may have done incorrectly with the android app?

I found this in another post on here after some digging and found this message from Bob.
Here are a couple of things you can try. First, start the app, go to the Home page, and then activate the app again. There is a bug that basically fails to load the library on "Start," but it works on "Activate."
If you library is still empty after you try that, use the current Viewer Builder to create a v13 viewer instead of a v14 viewer. See if that works.

This worked. I launched the app, exited to the home screen, and then went back in and the folios appeared. I am happy that they are working but am wondering if there is something I can do to remedy this. I cannot have people who download this app not see the content upon intial launch. And we certainly are not going to tell the public, you have to activate this app once launched to actually see the content.

Note that in this first release your sign in will automatically expire after 30 minutes. Non-existing folio in viewer app

Hi.
Strangely my newly created viewer app shows a folio what is not in DPS server.
It was deleted from the server some times ago.
Why it still shows up in new app?

I'm having this same problem with published Android apps. The main folios within these apps weren't updating on our Xoom. They were updated in Folio Builder and then confirmed to be changed on digitalpublishing.acrobat.com and using the Adobe Viewer app, however the folios would not show an "Update Available" message in the published Android apps. The only solution I could get to work, without contacting users and telling them to delete the app and redownload it, was to create a new folio from the same files and publish it with a cover image and title that indicated it is newer. The user will have to archive the old ones themselves to dump it from their devices. The problem is that even though I've unpublished and deleted the old folios, and tapped "Archive" on our Xoom, they are still showing up in the library with the "Download" button. How can we get rid of these old folios to try and reduce confusion. My original folios were created pre v20 so I'm assuming their age was the problem with simply being able to update them. The same updates to the iPad renditions of these folios have updated on an iPad2 without issue.

Folio download problem with Android app

I still have a problem with the app. It's ok with the certificate now and ok on google play store.
The app was updated on two android tablets and when I try to download an issue which was uploaded a few months ago with v30 DPS tools, the app can't download it because I need to upgrade the app.
The first one was build with v25 tools, is this something with the certificate.

What version number shows in the about dialog of your application? You can get to the about dialog from the "..." or hardware menu button on your device while in the library view. Select "About".
Also, can you send me a private message with the adobe ID that you're using to publish your folios?

Content viewer on Android ...

I've been able to test on iPad. Now i wanted to test on Android too. But i can't connect to my Acrobat.com account on Android. Is this 'free' account limited to 1 platform ?!

It's not just you. I installed the latest Adobe Content Viewer (straight from the App Market) to a brand new ASUS EEE Transformer Android tablet. Like kastART, I logged in but the app will not connect to my Acrobat.com account. I can see the folios in InDesign, on Acrobat.com, and on 11 iPads, but the Android app shows only the "New Guinea Adventure" sample folio, which doesn't work, by the way. The video, slideshow, and other overlays do nothing--tapping, sliding, etc. has no effect, as it would on static images.
So far, I have yet to hear of one Android-powered tablet actually showing a folio. I'm beginning to think the Content Viewer app simply doesn't work on any Android device.
Bob Bringhurst? Any thoughts on this? Have you ever actually seen the Content Viewer work on Android with a live Acrobat.com account and multimedia overlays? Has anyone at Adobe seen it work?

Adobe Viewer for Android Phone

Hi guys,
The Adobe Content Viewer from Google Play (May 1, 2013) is both compatible and works fine on my Nexus 4 phone. We understand that adding the Android phone compatibility might cause poor app rating as the buttons/controls will be hard to tap on the smaller screens. But publisher could add these limitations to the app description. So my question is if support for Android phones could be added to the custom viewer as an optional feature checkbox, please.

Performance advice required - creating images for a scrolling list view on Android

This is a question about how best to manage thumbnail images in an list view style app written in Actionscript 3 for Android.
I am building an app that uses a list view control to show lists of data. As each list item appears on screen during a scroll through the list I create a thumbnail image to display in the list item cell.
Currently I am embedding the jpg thumbnails in actionscript and using mx.core.bitmapasset to get bitmaps on the fly. On a live device this is unfortunately slowing things down - the smooth scrolling list jerks every time a new cell appears on screen.
There are probably going to be 500+ thumbnails but a list will only ever have about 150 items in it at any one time, of which only about 6 or 7 are onscreen at the same time. The list view control is one that I have created myself in actionscript but I am pretty sure the thumbnail creation is the cause of the slowdown. If I take out thumbnails the scrolling is smooth. If I reuse the same thumbnail across all cells then scrolling is smooth too. The component reuses cells as they disappear off one end of the list so there isn't much creation of objects going on.
I am running this in debug so it might be possible that in release things are better (maybe?).
Does anyone have any advice on how best to approach this problem of getting jpg assets available quickly?

I think you can use ContentCache here. See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/spark/core/ContentCache .html. You need to create an instance of ContentCache and set the contentLoader property of your Bitmap object to this instance. You can control the number of cachedEntries by setting maxCacheEntries. The tutorial by Mihai Corlan http://corlan.org/?p=3106 shows how you can use it. I hope you find it useful.

Publish completed, but no new folio in viewer

I've published a new folio to our branded viewer, but it still hasnt shown up in the viewer. Usually, I can count on the folio showing up within minutes after the 'completed' message. I know there were server issues yesterday, so maybe there are still issues? Or latency?
This particular folio only has one article, and is horizontal only.

folio should appear within couple of minute after successfull publish. Double check to make sure the folio status is not "Private"
Also, re-launch your viewer to re-fresh the library and see.

How to create hyperlink inside Folio to Viewer library?

Wanting to add a link inside my folio that when tapped, takes the user into the Apps Viewer Library.
Example would be a subscription button on an article page inside the folio, when tapped opens up the Viewer library so that the users can see the subscription tile in the upper left-hand corner.
Food Network magazine has this example - image one: user taps the "Subscribe Today" button. Image two: Users gets redirected back into Viewer library.
How do I set this hyperlink up?

One way to do this is to create a button that points to the app's Optional URL Scheme. For example, the DPS Tips URL Scheme is "com.bringhurst.dpstips." When I create a button with a Go To URL action that specifies "com.bringhust.dpstips://" tapping the button opens the app's library. You can see an example of this in DPS Tips > Advanced Folios > Advanced Linking.
