Follow up to trouble burning quicktime movie in idvd 4.01 in dvd format

I am using a blank dvd+R to burn.

Mike,
iDVD 4 only burns to DVD-R not DVD+R
Yup.... that would sure create problems burning, wouldn't it?

  • Keynote to quicktime movie to iDVD, no sound on dvd

I know this has been asked a million times, however I (a relatively recent Mac convert) absolutely can't believe that Apple would not allow this to work.
I have a keynote slideshow with music. I "send to iDVD" as well as "export" into a quicktime movie. Resultant files are movie and soundtrack. I bring into iDVD. Sound plays in iDVD. Burn dvd from iDVD, no sound on dvd.
C'mon, the instructions are there, the menus are there. Apple can't expect us to "import into iMovie, match movie and soundtrack" or "burn using disk utility" or otherwise do anything other than take a keynote and make it in to a dvd.
Worst case, can I just burn a CD or DVD that automatically plays the keynote with sound and doesn't have the cool DVD Menu?
Again, sorry for the "same old question", however I have not found a fix that worked nor do I believe that Apple means for this to be so difficult.
For those experts out there that have seen this question before, I really have spent a significant amount of time researching the problem and haven't found a fix that worked or an official response from Apple.
    Thanks again.

I am not running this on an intranet, I am creating a video for my students and posting it to my Internet web page. So if I were to post the keynote file itself, 4/5 of my students would be unable to open it because they don't have Macs. Some do not even have desktop computers and view stuff on their smart phones. I solved the issue, at least partially, by saving the presentation as html and posting it to my site that way. It works but it is a bit buggy. Would still rather make it into a movie.

  • Problem with split screen quicktime movie to iDVD

hey folks, i've just spent two 6-hour renderings for naught and have the following problem:
    QT Pro 6.5.2
    iDVD 5
    OS 10.3.9
I pulled together a Quicktime movie consisting of talking head interview, then split screen (two clips simultaneously), back to talking head, then split screen again, etc etc.
the first time i rendered the composite Quicktime movie to iDVD, my split screen background was a sickly lime green color. blech
so, i added a black slide in TIFF format ONLY to the split screen video portions. played around with the Layers property until my split screen video clips were in front of the black background. recut and pasted my full Quicktime movie again.
However, upon my second iDVD rendering, a funny thing ocurred. Now, when the DVD gets to a split screen portion, the VERY LAST FRAME OF THE PREVIOUS TALKING HEAD CLIP freezes, and appears in the background of my split screen clips.
    What gives?
I plan to do some testing, but sure would like to shortcut this problem, it's eating away at my weekend and i need to get this project done.
thanks for any insight you can give

Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't privy to the process that converted these files originally but suspected the theory on compression/codec initially used.. may re-convert. Also will try Disk Imaging... seems that this is not an uncommon problem in the iDVD 5 world...

  • I cannot burn my movie onto IDVD.

I cannot burn my movie onto IDVD. Says multiplexing error. Tried rerendering it as suggested on error code.  Apple wants to charge me $29 to look into it and says the money is non refundable. Suggested I come here.  Can anyone help me?  Please...

I went to the TROUBLESHOOTING desk yesterday at our APPLE store.  I got 15 minutes free.  They told me that IDVD is no longer supported by APPLE and my Mac Mini is 5 years old, therefore, I'm out of luck.  They told me to download new software and I thought the technician said the software is called IM DVD, but of course, I get home and I can't find it.  Now what?

  • Trouble playing QuickTime movie from Keynote

    Hi everyone,
    Keynote '09 5.1.1 (1034), QuickTime Player 10.0 (131)
I've got a Keynote presentation that I'd like to have as a movie so it can be shared. I want to utilize the "manual advance" feature that pauses the video when specified and waits for a click to advance the slideshow. But when I export (Share>Export>Quicktime), I have trouble getting the movie to play right.
Without a playback control panel (doesn't appear--and isn't supposed to I gather), after playing around with the magic mouse and keyboard, here's what I get (I can't find an explanation of keyboard shortcuts):
Just clicking the mouse plays the first slide, then stops the show at the end of that first slide. Clicking again does the same thing. It doesn't advance. The slideshow is designed to go automatically to the next slide and does so in Keynote.
Scrolling up can forward the video to the next slide or more, but then clicking just plays the first slide again and stops. Scrolling down goes backward in the same way.
Scrolling left or right while the video is playing lowers or raises the volume.
Hitting the up arrow key plays it backwards, sound and all. Hitting the down arrow plays it forwards.
Only after playing it (not just scrolling it--playing it) backwards--then forwards--will it advance to the next slide and work as I hoped it would, pausing at the right places where a click is needed to advance the movie. I found this by accident, but it works repeatedly, even after closing out QuickTime and opening the movie again.
Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm new to Keynote and don't use QuickTIme for much other than previewing videos. I'm hoping to share this video with many other people who aren't very computer literate, and making many similar videos. I want the other viewers to be able to play the video and just click once in a while (when the video asks them to.)
I would very much appreciate any help.

    Welcome to the discussions, Christopher.
Over in the Keynote discussions we've been going over this for quite awhile. Unfortunately, there's no easy solution to your problem. I've even gone as far as attempting to preload the chapter track thinking that might solve the problem, but it doesn't work.
One thing I don't think I've tried is setting up the first slide to advance "on-click" so that there's no animation before the first transition. The problem, of course, is that there's no "loading" animation to let it know when it's ready to go.
Another thing I haven't tried but that might work is to create the movie so that it doesn't autoplay, and then, using the embed commands, set autoplay to be the full length of the movie (so that it will automatically play, but only after it's completely downloaded). Look here for the autoplay embed commands.

  • How to burn Quicktime movie to CD

hello- i need help. instructions on how to burn a quicktime movie to a cd. i exported an iphoto slideshow to quicktime so that i can share with family. now, i have a .mov file but don't know how to burn it to cd. do i need quicktime pro to do this? i appreciate any help. thanks

If you just want to burn it to a CD (or do you want this CD to play in a DVD player?) all you have to do is insert a blank CD, Choose to let the Finder handle it, drag and drop the file on the CD then drag and drop the file on the Trash (the Trash icon will change to a burn icon).

  • Trouble burning avi movies to DVD

im new to the world of apple. i tried burning a movie avi format that was downloaded online. when i tried to drag it to idvd it was showing the progress and "asset embeding" literaly a frame at a time this went on for about 3 hours until i canceled out. i downloaded isquint to convert the file and that has been going for about 2 hours its making progress and going just a little longer than real time. im still unsure what to do after that or if that will even work. If anyone could give me some pointers i would be greatful. or a quicker way to burn full length movies that will be playable on my tv dvd player. THanx
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   super drive

It sounds like something went wrong during the burning of the DVD, and that could be many things. Have you successfully burned a DVD before? You might want to try the iDVD forums to see if they have any hints.
Unfortunately, your 800 MHz G4 is going to be really slow doing video compression. There are some things that you could do like maxing out your memory and upgrading your video card (so that the CPU doesn't have to render your screen along with compressing video) but these still won't make your computer a blazing fast system for video (might not be worth the cost to you). You can also try making sure that you don't do anything else with the computer.
Since it's taking an exceedingly long time to try the compression and view the results, it would probably be advantageous to find a small QuickTime clip on the web and use it in your tests...like some trailers for instance. It's still going to take awhile to render, but at least then you'll get to the point of errors in 4 hours instead of 12 or 28. Once you're successful with a few QuickTime clips, then cut the .AVI clip down to a minute and see if that works. At this point, you'll be able to compare successes and determine where the problem might be.
At the point in the video where you notice the squares, press space to stop, then use the left and right arrow keys to examine frame by frame to see if it's just that your video card is having a problem handling the video when it's running full speed (if it's clear frame by frame, then it'll make a good DVD). I wouldn't change the settings in iSquint yet until we determine if there's a real quality problem.

  • Trouble burning multiple movies

I am trying to burn 4 movies onto one disc they add up to a total of 322 mins and about 2gig of space. Now a DVD is only 4.2 so why does iDVD encode the files so large. Is there anyway around this with idvd or another program in ilife or that will run on my mac.

    Hi s
Limiting factor in iDVD'08 is ONLY minutes. Gb of no interest.
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min) - BEST
    • High Performances (movies less than 60 min) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (movies up to 120 min) - slightly lower quality than above
To get more (eg 322minutes) one needs to use another program to code the .mpeg2
    I would try:
    • Create my DVD in iDVD
    • Save as a DiskImage
    • Use Roxio Toast™ (reducing bitrate till image will fit)
BUT: by doing this the quality is severly reduced - like VHS quality.
I would cut up my material so that I could use ProQuality in iDVD (max 120min)
and to 3 DVD disks á 110 minutes.

  • Having trouble getting Quicktime movies into iMovie

Hi everyone. I'm on an iBook with OS 10.3.9 and I'm working with Quicktime 7.0.3 and iMovie 4.0.1. I've been making a student film, and I've been trying to drag or import Quicktime movies into iMovie to edit and use. However, when I attempt to do so, it doesn't work and I get a message that reads, "Can't open file (insert file name here); skipping it and continuing." Is there any way to fix this problem without having to get Quicktime Pro? Thanks.
    Brian

Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure the files are indeed mpegs. I tried out the program you sent, and it worked for the first clip when I converted it into DV. For some reason, when I tried importing the next two mpeg movies, I got a message that said, "The DV File (insert name here) is the wrong video standard and cannot be imported into this project." Any reason why that should be happening? Thank you very much for your first reply.

  • I have been trying to burn a movie in iDVD and it has been VERY slow.  Never had problems in the past.  HELP!

Hi there, I have been trying to burn a movie I created in iDVD.  When in the "creating your DVD" it is VERY slow saying it will take over 6 hours to burn the movie.  I have never had this problem before.  It also won't let me minimize the screen, I just get the beeping noise that something is wrong, but no pop up window telling me what to do.  Does that make sense?  Also the black & orange burn wheel is spinning VERY slowly and will often just stop.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

    Hi
When iDVD goes slow to ridiculously slow - it usually depends on - low free space on Start-up hard disk
    • I set for a minimum of 25Gb free space
    • 10Gb might work but slow
    • 5Gb - slow and un-stable - DVD usually doesn't play
    • <1Gb - iDVD might not even start and even so Mac OS runs into problems.
    Else
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named.
    *com.apple.iDVD.plist*
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple’s Disk Utilities application)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK will work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’09 v. 7.0.4, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (does work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    or
    Macintosh HD/Users/Your log-in//Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions
EdinSF writes that, The 10.6.3 update with an Open GL fix seems to have taken care of the problem.

  • Quicktime Movies in iDVD

I have a G5 and iDVD 4.0.1. For some reason I cannot get it to burn films that I export from Final Cut Pro to Quicktime movies. Any ideas why this might happen would be most approeciated.

I drop the file into iDVD from the desktop. What happens is it gets stuck on step 4 - there is no error message it just acts like it's burning forever and ever. When you cancel and take the DVD out, it has not burned at all.

  • Preparing my FCP Quicktime movie for iDVD

Hi out there, can someone please explaine in detail what I have to do to a FCP Quicktime movie to prepare it for iDVD. Its 12 minutes long and 4.8GB. I tried putting it as is into iDVD and burning a DVD and the quality was bad. I presume I have to put it through Compressor?

How did you export the movie in the first place? Did you choose Quicktime Movie or Quicktime Conversion?

  • How do I prepare a FCP Quicktime movie for iDVD?

Hi out there, can someone please explaine in detail what I have to do to a FCP Quicktime movie to prepare it for iDVD. Its 12 minutes long and 4.8GB. I tried putting it as is into iDVD and burning a DVD and the quality was bad. Do I have to put it through Compressor? Or, should I make a different kind of Quicktime movie?

Compressor is a program and you want to use it to convert your movie into an mpeg file and an ac3 file. 2 files to drop into your DVD program. Now, I haven't used iDVD so i don't know what it's asking for but. DVDSP is really easy to use if you just wan tto make a DVD without a menu. this requires an mpeg2 file and ac3. this you can make in compressor. in FCP have your timeline with your sequence in it active. FILE>EXPORT>USING COMPRESSOR. in compressor you can use the DVD 90 minute setting to make these two files. you have to check the manual cause it's different on how to do this with diff versions.
once you have your files drop them in DVD SP asset box then drag them in the timeline. delete the menue blue box right click the green track box, select 'first play' build/burn button at the top and you're on your way.
sorry if this seems confusing, but dvd technology is funky. idvd is great for making easy template menus but if you want to just make a playable dvd wihtout menus, DVD SP is the way to go.
